Sega Dreamcast 25th Anniversary Anonymous 09/09/2024 (Mon) 18:23:15 Id: 757386 No. 1011850
Happy Birthday Sega Dreamcast. Happy 25th Anniversary of the Sega Dreamcast's Release in America
>>1011850 God damn it anon, we already have too many pinned threads
>>1011851 Well, clearly one of them should move over then. What can be more important than the one and only Dreamcast?
>>1011850 For such a short lived console, there were so many great games on there. I liked the VMU too.
>>1011850 > some good games > da interwebz looking up pr0n on seganet > memory card also had games and some tamagotchi like thing you could raise When you go back and look at it the dreamcast had alot to offer.
How is the quality of the GDEMU clones on ebay?
>>1011863 The saturn of course.
>>1011898 I can only speak for the v5.15b GDEMU clone but it's still holding up half a year later after purchase. There's a couple downsides to it though that aren't deal-breakers but are annoyances <it has issues with Skies of Arcadia & Resident Evil X Code Veronica A workaround patch for Code Veronica has been specifically made for v5.15b GDEmu clones that tackles, IIRC, one of the puzzles that caused the game to stop. One fag at dreamcast-talk claims that the issue with Skies of Arcadia has to do with the intro video that makes the game stop at a certain point & if you can skip it, the game will play fine <its firmware cannot be updated. Updating it to the latest version will brick the unit! If you can't find any v5.20 boards and only the v5.15b clones are available, you'll be fine if you keep in mind of the annoyances mentioned.

Summer days with the Dreamcast and friends were great. I want to go back
>>1011925 Okay thanks, it looks like 5.20 ones are all over the place so I think I'm good. I never had a Dreamcast but it was always a wondrous world to me as I mostly grew up a Nintenbabby. I found a very clean console for $5 at a thrift store and it turns on but I need controllers too, hah.

>>1011932 >I found a very clean console for $5 at a thrift store and it turns on If you plan on getting a GDEMU clone you should disassemble your Dreamcast & make sure your unit is compatible. While most Dreamcasts in the wild are likely going to be the common VA1 revision (see pic 1) there's always a slim chance of not having the 3.3v GD unit (see pic 2) that was responsible for the ease of playing those burnt Dreamcast games back then. As far as I know of the GDEMU clones and original items, they work better on those console revisions than the latter ones released near the end of its lifespan where sega tried to mitigate the exploit. IIRC, the GDEMU units might work on the other revisions but need to have an added resistor to them. If I was you I would also replace the stock PSU with the PicoPSU to avoid making the console overheat since time hasn't been too kind to the stock PSU

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet.
>>1011948 Now that's a quality Dreamcast stand.
That was a fun show. While the road crews were setting up between shows, they'd wheel out a Dreamcast kiosk and the band members would fight each other in DoA2 on the jumbo screens.

>>1011884 Best feature for the Dreamcast for me was the VGA-Out and Mouse & Keyboard. Quake III and UT were fucking amazing, especially on a proper computer monitor. I spent a lot of money trying to get a Component to VGA conversion box and never could get a comparable "VGA" image out of the PS2/Xbox/NGC. Thankfully didn't need to with the Xbox 360, since it also had VGA cables, and HDTVs came down in price significantly by the end of that generation. Come to think of it... I haven't used a dedicated television to play video games on since 2000. Just ran everything through a PC monitor, or was playing on a PC already.

>>1012053 >Lower right side of image >Officially bought disc to play Japanese game on your American Dreamcast <When you can just burn a copy of Code Breaker to a CD-R and use that to play Japanese discs on your American DC without modding it
I'll contribute this Dreamcast rec list I've had for a coon's age. Never owned a Dreamcast myself, but I've emulated most of these and had a blast. Hopefully some anons can get something useful out of it
I wanna go to a world where Sega managed to keep it's shit together and still exist in the console market Games aren't the same after they stopped being first party
>>1012068 > missing gundam 0079 side story game, the only decent gundam game ever made

>>1012120 >What the CEO of SEGA was hoping
>>1011948 Given how things were a couple decades ago, if someone told me this was some rejected marketing idea, I wouldn't be surprised.
>>1012062 Sometimes it's nice to have the pretty box to look at, anon :)
