There was a pretty fun mod map I tried where it basically just one long (endless?) post-apocalyptic road where you had to scavenge weapons, vehicles, and healing items from the various raider checkpoints. Rolling up on a building full of pissed off block nigger with a rocket launcher and a handful of grenades, knocking out the support beams and watching the whole thing collapse gave me some great Red Faction vibes. There were a few complex city scapes you could crawl up into the 30th floor of a building and then simulate different disasters like tornadoes, earthquakes, building fires, and nuclear strikes. I'd fuck around with it a lot more often, but dropping down to single-digit framerates and then a 50/50 chance of crashing out the game makes me not even want to bother.
