It's ok to good, starts amazing but disappoints after about 20-30 hours. I'm not regretting it, but I'd wait for a sale unless you want a good action game now.
>at first it was great fun, amazing gameplay but lots of cutscenes, though they're cool cutscenes admittedly
>I was going out of my way to kill stuff with Clive, it was so fun
>as I played Clive I was looking forward to time when I can play as another character, see the moveset, test it out
>I played as Yoshua in the prologue, so surely I will soon get to play Cid or Jill?
NOPE
It's all Clive and his scally fursona, and while Clive is great to play, his moveset doesn't evolve enough, it's the same combo into stagger into use abilities. Getting one more element and then another is nice, but not enough to change shit around. At 20+ hours in, Clive's gameplay gets stale and enemies are all samey and too spongy for how little they tend to do, cutscenes too frequent even if I actually like them in general. It is still ok to play, the story is always fine, but don't expect the initial positive feelings to last forever as you play in the same intensity. Story feels like they feared going deeper. As I play, I think "they could've done it so much better". It's also sad and dark for too long if you ask me. It's bad shit, no joke or anything to improve the mood for a bit, more bad shit going on then followed by another several hours of bad inhumane shit. If you go dark that's fine, make the hero darker and cool as well like 40k instead of creating a situation where Clive is constantly gloomy and depressed. I would have preferred if Clive was a vengeful, edgy anti-hero with good intentions to this. It'd be far more entertaining, this gets grating and tiresome after several hours.
Side notes, do not expect this to be party based or an RPG. This is as much of an RPG as Doom Eternal. 99.999% of chests on the map are wastes of time not worth the two seconds you watch Clive kick them open, exploring what little is off-track doesn't feel rewarding, I don't know why the devs did that. On side quests, they're fetch X or kill Y, serviceable and ok with some nice and somewhat memorable scenes in a few, but then I've played and dropped Xenoblade 1 not to long ago, and that one has horrible sidequests so it could've affected my current standards.
