And now, coming back out of hibernation, the purple vidya theme has returned & been retooled!!!
You've seen the theme before, you may have possibly even remember it being used on the board briefly before it got reverted back to the stock theme due to, IIRC, the archived threads becoming broken eyesores.
I believe I have now fixed the design problem by taking a snapshot of the overlayed tiles from the old revision & piecing them all together.
Then I figured, 'why not have it be animated just like the Flying Toasters from After Dark?'
I originally planned on using the animation codes within the CSS which would loop for some time before doing it again, but while movement was smooth & the file size for the tile was tiny enough to not be demanding for the browser when it fills up the background with repeats, the animation loop itself was not.
So I discarded that janky solution & tried making a loop by hand in the layers of the image editing program. Needless to say, that became too tedious & tiring to work on 100+ frames, so I got discouraged and put it on the backburner.
Finally, I used Kdenlive & imported the tile to the editor, making use of the 'transform' effect & adding 4 layers of the same tile so that I can measure their X & Y placements & have the program move them to where I want to go. That is how I was able to achieve the looping effect.
I went with APNG instead of GIF to save some space, it should work on most modern browsers. Admittedly, the animation could be redone to be more smoother so I'll leave it up to any anon who knows how to achieve that result by uploading the webm. Once extracted, it will have 150 frames.
But that's not all!!
As the teaser earlier showed, the oekaki button now has its own unique skeuomorphic color & animation when you click on it!
I wanted to make it feel special to bring up the drawing program rather than looking like it got clipped on to the poor file drop zone. Having a pop of color to the side draws eyes to it better, in my opinion.
So what are you waiting for? Get your hands on the new retooled purple vidya CSS theme now & have a blast to the past by grabbing the 4th attached file in this post!
