Post vidya barely anyone remembers

>>1066861 What game is that?
>>1066854 I remember the too human shitshow when it released, but i had already shifted to playing 100% on PC at that point so i never played it. Doesn't seen like i missed a lot.

Only time I ever spent money on a game as a joke.
>>1066869 That game is too infamous to be here. People are still talking about it despite most people not having played it.
>>1066871 Red Faction Armaggedon barely anyone remembers and it did so poorly it sold like half of Red Faction, but plenty of people still remember the 2010 AVP game, it had some decent marketing behind it and sold alright. Just not COD numbers
>>1066877 The thread may as well be called memorable marketing campaigns really.
>>1066882 *Un-memorable.
>>1066882 Not really Some simply didn't have any, just word of mouth
(2.29 MB 1170x1101 1727146264111.png)

>>1066885 Like I said, marketing campaigns.
>>1066854 Breed was rather cool, basically the first "Halo-killer" since it also went with the whole "started as a RTS became a FPS" thing and the Starship Troopers knock off setting was cool as well But once you actually play it you just know it wasn't a finished game, as a matter of fact it feels not far removed from FPS mods in Starcraft 2 in terms of gunplay and the missions are just about the most forgettable shit when it's not memorable because of how bad it is (forced stealth mission, enough said). Devastation had a neat concept (what if regular shooter but you get a respawn mechanic and sometimes your enemies do as well) but it just was not given the polish it deserved. That laser sniper rifle was made of pure sex though. >>1066871 Fucking everybody raves on about Guerilla but honestly it falls into every single traps of a mediocre open world game and besides the limited destructibles it's just boring, whereas Armageddon is more in line with the original, an okayish shooter with neat gimmicks it just really wasn't a time where such a game could be successful anymore.

Remember that Mother 4 fan game that's been in development for god knows how long. Still little to no news on it. Last original post was 6 months ago and it was just a comic strip that supposedly tied to the game somehow.
>>1066903 >TimeShift I thought I remembered that one, but then I realized I was thinking of Haze.
(15.37 KB 460x215 starbound.jpg)

The hype surrounding this game vs the total lack of discussion less than a month after launch was very funny to see. To this day I do not understand why so many people, including anons here, were so excited for this turd. >>1066870 Its use of jigsaw pieces and legos, its emphasis on childhood, it's like Autism Speaks made it. This is such an "autism parent" ass game lmao, actual autistic people hate this kind of media.
>>1066903 Guerrila was a pre Ubishit Open World so the game was mostly collectibles and the progression system was actually enjoyable (except for giving you the jetpack too late). It does get quite repetitive but it' still a physics sandbox so there's plenty of fun moments to fuck around with. Armaggedon flopped exactly because everyone complaijed that it was not Open World.
The Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy were some of my favorite childhood games, so I will never forget about this game. I did not play it on release, as I heard it wasn't all that good, and by then I had moved on, because of PoP 2008 and Assassin Creed killing the series. Several years later, I did play it on PC, it was ok, and I think it's better for the better that the series ended like this, instead of getting annual releases like AssCreed. Yes, I am aware of the 2D game that got released somewhat recently, but that is ok for me, it doesn't really affect the other games. There was also a cancelled 2010 game, called Redemption, and thankfully it died quickly, because it's quick death is the only redeeming fact about it.
>>1066861 Lost oddysey on Xbox 360 was good, i really need to setup Xenia to paly it again
>>1066903 Vietcong is well known in czech republic abd thereby slovakia too
One of the weirdest instances of forgotten games that comes to mind is that one time Ace Combat turned into Cowadoody.
>>1066854 >Post vidya barely anyone remembers Part of the problem with making such a demand is that it depends upon how "obscure" of a game you want to mention. <For example, I unironically own all these games, and have never seen anyone ever talk about them. >>1066903 >TimeShift >>1066930 >Haze >>1066965 >The Forgotten Sands You fags have to do better than that than to list games that I actually own.
>>1066980 >Cubic Ninja Let's be honest, most people who owned that game, was just to use the exploit in order to install pirated software on the 3DS.
>>1066976 Nothing weird about it post 2007 7th Gen was fucking miserable with every game in every genre wanting to be COD, Gear or Halo.

>>1066871 Armageddon might have been one of the worst ideas for a sequel. Take everything people loved about the previous game and just fucking get rid of it and fight monsters in some fucking tunnels. Fucking genious.

>>1066863 Proud owner of this game on steam On my last Steam account, I also owned Happy Tree Friends False Alarm which was only available for about two months. Never heard a peep about it since it went off the store, but to be fair the game was forgettable.

>>1067527 Ah fuck me you're right. I was thinking of Conduit. I suck dicks, ignore my post.
>>1067524 >Notorious Maybe in thr US
Remember when RTS as a genre existed with more than 2 games a year, and they act least tried to innovate between them with at least a new gimmick? All that's left now are supreme commander clones, starcraft, and maybe company of heroes if you squint. Still, this is a boomer thread. Any game older than 15 years is almost guaranteed to be in the "barely anyone remembers" list.
>>1067527 >>1067528 >The Conduit Played and beat that, still need to play the sequel >>1067536 >Rise of Legends Didn't Sseth do a review of that?

(27.25 KB 256x331 Magitsbox.jpg)

(171.99 KB 1000x1462 Dragonslayer.jpg)

No relation to the film. This was the predecessor to Xanadu, this was the game that led to Ys and Zelda. A game that was extremely important and influential, yet is completely unremembered today. Ultima, Rogue, and Wizardry all got their roses, but Dragon Slayer remains obscure. Likely forgotten as unlike other Japanese CRPGs from the early-to-mid 80s, Dragon Slayer never got a Famicom or international release; mostly being ported to other Japanese computers. >>1067575 Every port of this game does something better than the others, so the best way to play it is some crazy concoction that merges different parts of them together. So I've heard, never played it personally.
>>1067559 Holy shit, I remember seeing General Chaos in a magazine as a kid and I really wanted to play it for many years but I never found it anywhere, eventually I kind of forgot about it. I should go find a rom and play it now after 30 years.
This was a pretty fun game at the time, Valve abandoned it almost instantly.
(59.46 KB 494x500 Jersey_Devil_PSX.jpg)

(48.75 KB 256x248 Tobal No 1 boxart.jpg)

>>1066980 "Most obscure games you actually own (and maybe like)" would perhaps be a better variant of this thread. I'll list a couple that I have and like. >Jersey Devil I've tried to get people to play it, but they all complain about the controls. I think the issue is that people expect the glide to feel like Spyro, and let you go far. The glide really doesn't give you much distance, and is instead used mostly for just a slight variant to your jump that makes the platforming more complex. Otherwise it's a somewhat standard playing 3D platformer of the era, but I like that genre. Bit of a mix between Mario 64's more open design and Crash Bandicoot's more linear design. And I love the halloween aesthetic. >Tobal No. 1 I know it got a sequel in Japan, but the only times I've heard anyone talk about it in English is to mention that it came with a demo of Final Fantasy VII. I never liked Final Fantasy, but I loved Tobal since it first released. The controls are a bit weird, the circle button isn't used at all, for some reason, but that didn't hurt the fun for me. What helped the fun significantly was the Quest Mode, where you do dungeon crawling with light RPG elements, with fighting game combat, of ccourse. Neat concept, and I guess it did better in Japan, but since nobody gives a flying fuck about it outside Japan, I think it's relevant to this thread. Also, Akira Toriyama did the character designs, and the American instruction booklet tries to advertise DBZ as being from the maker of this game, rather than the other way around. That's pretty funny. I did already like DBZ though so I just thought it was cool. >>1067559 Shove It is one of the best Boxxle clones (or ports?) of the time. And there were many. And there is a dedicated subculture of old school Sega fans who don't even like Sonic, and are instead all about games like Pat Riley Basketball. The other two are pretty damn obscure, though.

>>Still, this is a boomer thread. Any game older than 15 years is almost guaranteed to be in the "barely anyone remembers" list. While this is unfortunately true, if we used your cutoff, the thread would be filled with nothing but Wii/3DS shovelware or downloadable games nobody's even heard of. Anyway, seeing Starlancer mentioned made me think of these.
What was that german game where you play some chick who catches fairies and does pokemon battles with them? Ancient 2000s game I believe

Is posting streamer bait cheating?
the only non nintendo game that used the wiimote correctly.
>>1079218 This game was such a fucking disappointment as a follow-up to one of the best games of the 2010s. This and Dragon's Dogma 2 were the first times in years I felt genuinely burnt by games. There's a review that puts it really well: "Frostpunk 2 is not the sequel I expected, or wanted." The resource management, the brutal struggle from the first game, it's all gone. Anything you may have actually enjoyed about Frostpunk isn't present in 2. It's not even a bad game, but it's not Frostpunk - it's a kind of okay politics-based management game you'd get 90% off during a Steam sale and enjoy for a few days. Had 11Bit called it something like Frostpolitik and marketed it as a spinoff, I think the reaction would have been much more positive.
>>1080242 I know of that game because it's caused the PCSX2 devs PTSD with just how utterly baffling the fact that it runs on actual hardware without breaking is.
>>1080242 Oh damn, haven't thought about this in years. Had no right to be as good as it was for a Playmobil game. >>1080253 Why's that, the large world? Because I can think of PS2 games much larger, like Just Cause. Or is the PS2 port just really weirdly made and broken Hype isn't anything to graphically or technically impressive from what I recall.
>>1080253 What's baffling is that this was by Ubisoft Montreal, was on PC first in 1999 and wasn't dogshit. It's a really fun 3D Zelda clone. The PS2 port took a year and a half to make, must have been hell considering how long that was for a port at that time.
>>1080269 >Or is the PS2 port just really weirdly made and broken Well it works when played on PS2 (with the real disk iirc OPL / ESR have freezes), but because it's an early title it's doing some very sketchy stuff that theoretically should not work but do because PS2 programming is an arcane abyss of forbidden knowledge
>>1080273 >Well it works when played on PS2 Isn't that true for all PS2 games, or is there something I am missing?
>>1080291 >Isn't that true for all PS2 games, or is there something I am missing? Some early games don't play nice on the latter model PS2, for similar reasons why Hype is really hard to emulate properly, they didn't change much between the fat and the slim but even that small difference is enough to break a few games and PCSX2 does a lot of thing differently from the real deal.

One I've never seen mentioned anywhere, Pocket Bomberman for the Gameboy. I never hear any talk about Warbreeds, an RTS where you play as four different alien races. The main gimmick is that you can steal DNA from your enemies' corpses (provided they're fresh enough) and learn how to incorporate their weapons into your own troops - the weapons being actual biological appendages.

A good while back on 4chan /v/, this small Japanese indie game got unprecedented amounts of love. Several continuous threads of people actually discussing the gameplay AND making original content. It got to the point that some anons actually contacted the dev and helped him shape it for the better, including improving the controls for one of the characters. I think in 2014/2015, a tsunami hit Japan, and we never heard from the dev again. He was working on three new characters, pushing the game engine he was using to its limit, but he went MIA and was never heard from again. The blog for the game was deleted earlier this year, so this game will never be completed. You had to be there. The game itself is pretty much a simplified Megaman game where you buy powerups instead of earn them from boss kills, but it was genuinely enjoyable. Easily enough content to feel like a full game, but it will always be an unfinished game.
Any remember?

artist colony: one of the best indie games before steam. sad it never made it there. you hire artists, and have them do one of three things, renovate the place, make art, rest. you can have a limited number of artists and limited number of art pieces per artist. you have to balance spending time on renovation and other things as renovation means using funds on rest instead making art, but also more expensive art. most art studios need to be renovated from ground up, I think only diesel and photography were available in a poor state from the get go, the rest were beyond reach. I think there were singing, acting and masonry. also there is renovating the non art facilities like fountains and flowerbeds, which help inspire artists and look nice on the screen, but are optional. most rest facilities also need to be upgraded. there is a murder mystery as a story but eh who cares. the paintings that get drawn in this game look really pretty. actually the character models look really pleasant too. even the black dudes. gamergate really mindbroke artsy type people. its such a stark contrast. sad that most games of this era of indies are either stuck on big fish games, or delisted everywhere and bastardized into a phone sequel. like another forgotten favorite of mine. supermarket mania 2. this game was the most fun lite management game I ever played.

>>1190465 Speaking of slavjank: this game from commie land (Russia) is a confusing but interesting mess of a game. Starfield before Starfield existed. It's certainly a very ambitious game, unfortunately not a very good one. By the same devs of Boiling Point, which I'd recommend that game over this one. Since it's fun jank, opposed to bad jank. I think we can definitely say Starfield is a better game than this game. Despite most people considering Starfield mediocre, our standards of what is mediocre has largely changed from what that was in the early to mid 2000s. Some people claim that our standards dropped but that's not true because if Bethesda released a game as buggy and broken as this then they'd be out of business since no one would tolerate it.

I just remembered something, I don't think it's ever gonna get more obscure than THIS some germans(?) made an open source game engine in 2002(?) called Cube Engine FPS, to which they later made a bunch of levels as a tech demo to showcase what it can do it's all available for free online then some hungarian jewish fucks in 2005 actually burned it on a couple hundred dvds, designed a completely unrelated box art with an unrelated title, and sold it for pocket cash in stores eastern europe had some weird practices like that the only way you'd have ever heard about this game is if you were a hungarian pc gamer in the 2000s it's a quake-ish shooter, not bad but ok at most

Okay to try out if you're curious, but it would never get a serious recommendation from me. It's just simply okay as an experience for old games if you can deal with flaws. There are quite a few examples in this thread of games that don't really deserve to be forgotten at the same time, but they're trapped on an old platform or something like that. And there were hidden gems or whatever. One game that comes to mind is Messiah because it was so unique.

>>1067610 Tobal No. 1 was actually a beloved game of my childhood. It was a weird but cool game my older bro had that I only got to play like 1-2 times a year at my grandparents' place. Quest mode really made an impression. It seemed like the coolest thing ever even though it was hard as balls for an 8 year old. Just revisited it and have been having a lot of fun finishing the dungeons. The controls are really odd though and I have no idea how the grappling counters work at all. I've also been playing Robbit Mon Dieu, which is basically just Jumping Flash but with downgraded gameplay and more worldbuilding, especially way more cutscenes. The cutscenes are nice but I would probably appreciate them more if I knew Japanese. Probably 90% of the enjoyment in this game is dependent on knowing Japanese.

>>1327178 You know what, why did Nintendo do absolutely nothing with the whole AR Card thing? Outside of the cards the handheld came with and Kid Icarus: U which nobody played, I can't name a single other time the technology was used.
>>1327715 I don't know. I can't imagine it going very far though. Like imagine having a game requiring AR cards and then one of them get lost or something.
>>1327715 The opening sequence to Bravely Default makes use of it and Project Mirai DX lets you have AR concerts for any song you've unlocked in the game via the AR cards that came with the physical copy (and also lets you play around with the chibi chars through such). Those are both third party games though, I don't think nintendo did that much with it outside of some meme titles. I actually still have my AR cards, case, and cart for project mirai DX, I could probably sell them for a pretty penny at this point.

Dark Colony Sacrifice. A game way ahead of its time. TZAR. Ground Control. No clue why it didn't take off the way other games did. Disciples series. >>1177271 >Salammbo Great comic.
>>1188270 >It's kind of rare for D&D licensed games to go unnoticed But entirely possible. Dragonshard's basic design choices are bizarre and shouldn't have made it past preproduction >take the D&D setting that already has at least 6 factions with unique units, cultures, and tactics that fought a giant, flashy, war against eachother >set it in a total backwater after all that >where little of the setting defining magic is present >use three factions, >two of which were extremely minor entities to the point their existence in the game is effectively made up wholecloth >the one that actually existed barely follows its lore Tactics is pretty decent, but blatantly unfinished >psionic classes will run out of powers to take just playing the game normally >halfway through the game totally runs out of bestiary so you fight a bunch of low level fodder in huge numbers (which due to 3E's scaling are total non-threats) >some weapon types are totally unsupported

>>1069080 I loved Otomedius Excellent. I still remember the day I picked up my Gamestop pre-order. I liked Blades of Time too even though it wasn't the best The last time Xbox was kino Bulletwitch is another 360 one, at least it got a Steam port years ago but I almost never hear it mentioned Also Hunted: Demon's Forge

>>1330163 >Ground Control. That game and it's sequel had some comfy music. I posted this in a mystery music thread nearly two years ago, but nobody guessed it.
I think most of these were forgotten because they were too generic. Now, what is and is not “generic” is a different thing to pin down, since it’s not so straightforward as “having traits that are common in a lot of other works.” Most of these games are copying stuff that is popular, but not universal, so consequently they come across as derivative. I think genericiness occurs when you copy some traits, gameplay, character design, music, plot, etc, that are just novel enough for it to be noticeable when they are being copied.
Some very underrated DS goodies. >>1078591 >FEZ I remember this one, never bothered to complete it because my old potato couldn't handle it. Was FEZ really "A Whole Lot of Nothing, The Game" like I heard some people say? >>1079222 >Zack & Wiki I have this game from a bunch of years ago, I could run it on Dolphin but I never cared about the game, didn't give it more than 10 minutes of gameplay. Is it any good? >>1084048 >Blade Kitten Dont know this one, but the artstyle alone sells it for me. Might try it if my potato can handle it. >>1212751 >Dinner Dash Holy shit, just today I got vaguely remembered about this game, and now I see it here lmao. This was a childhood classic (or was it its sequel? I don't remember). I have to give this a shot again one day. >>1241193 One Must Fall 2097 Never played it, but saw gameplay of it, the character portraits were laughably terrible and the mech models... I don't know how good they were for its time, but they look silly these days lol. It has a criminal soundtrack, though, mad kudos for it. >Monkey Magic Another childhood classic, daaamn. This game was such a nightmare to run because our disc was in terrible condition, so making it past the startup screen was a miracle... and then the cutscenes made the game slow down to a crawl. I got to play this game again one day and close a cycle... >>1330882 You can say that, but I've never seen any games like Big Bang Mini or Boing Docomodake in terms of game design, they are unique and still underappreciated. Hell, even games like Crazy Machines 1 and 2 with such a basic premise of "put items in place and solve puzzles" are barely a thing (only Bad Cats comes to mind and that game is kind of... eh).
I already posted El Matador earlier too.
>>1338856 >Was FEZ really "A Whole Lot of Nothing, The Game" like I heard some people say? It gets a bit good with the "cracking the text cypher" thing, but otherwise meh, especially because once you crack the text thing it's basically just gonna be either super simple stuff or "the text says what you need to do so just fucking read dumbass" type puzzles. The is the heart pieces puzzles but those are so me peak bullshit tier retardation. Play animal well, it is basically the same feel but actually a bit more interesting.
>>1066998 >the game should've been an exact copy of a game I played before! i am tired of this.
>>1338856 man. worms on the DS via download play was great. played it on the bus to school with my friend and we live in a rural area so the bus drive was about an hour. i kind of miss those times.
>>1066854 I can get why people ragged on too human when it released but I really liked the game for what it was. Wish we could've gotten at least one sequel, the cyber-norse stuff was actually a really neat concept. Shame the devs were fucking retards and picked the dumbest legal hill to die on.
