Oh my god, it's actually over. I hope to god every day we have a Team Fortress 3 made with all the love and care that went to TF2, but our reality is a cursed one. May we find happiness in death or in the simulations in the future.

>>1052781 They're probably going to put that Deadlock crap into the TF2 universe, who knows.
Will TF2 fags finally kill themselves?
>>1052783 Nah, it doesn't fit. TF2's schtick is the Australium, whereas Deadlock is the occult and those weird magic storms. Although, I wouldn't remove the chance that they make it a "lore cameo" of sorts where a parallel universe was connected to TF2 through a portal briefly and we get soldier hat cosmetics for warden, that kind of bullshit.
>>1052785 Warden's design is temporary and he's getting a completely new one at some point down the line, dialogue in-game refers to him as a "creepy homeschooled kid" wearing a Halloween costume, and he's supposedly wearing a cape which his current model lacks.

(3.71 MB 2048x1536 TF2 Ending 2.png)

I'm pathetic for crying at the end of this. Feels more to me like a send-off to the Team Fortress 2 phenomenon. A nice little ribbon on top to signify that the long journey is over. This game which I've played since its inception. Not going to lie, it did make me feel some strong emotions
Well, I haven’t read it yet but I can’t imagine it will live up to the hype.
>>1052830 Except Merasmus, he's barabait now.
>>1052781 s&box is already semi-out, fans can make their own TF3. And man, that was a good conclusion. very apt that the Administrator was looking for Australium just to torture Zephaniah Mann a while longer Also, the constant baiting to the cuckchan "leak" a while back was hilarious. As evidenced by attachment the potential already exists for more edits and macros.
>>1052889 He's Tom Jones' Daddy
>>1052891 The ending was very nice, but why did she do what she did? We know that there is ´´a reason´´, that is implicit in comic 6, the thing is the covers of comic 7, they imply that his parents died, but not the way in which that happened, leaving it to free interpretation how They died, something like the origin of the Joker, the real question is: Is Zeppenian Mann responsible for this? Let's also take into account the ghost and the space maps that were not finished, it is most likely that this is a retcon and they had another ending planned
>>1052906 Are the space maps even canon? They were a leftover idea from a previous sci-fi version of TF2 that for some reason Valve half-heartedly added almost ten years after the fact,

>>1052927 That world provides for many adventures of many more teams and with a lot of lore, tf3 is inevitable, we will just have to wait a decade

>>1052771 Wouldn't cause the same phenomenon as PayDay 3? <Every piece of marketable polygon down into pennies Unless they're making it exclusively for the Steam game console or any other console, because TF2 for Xbox and PS3 definitely needs a sequel in which you can swap from third person to first person now that Paladins and Overwatch shat the bed and sunk every opportunity to the fill that gap. >>1052864 >Yet they won't reveal Pyro's face, only the Spy's >>1052927 That's definitely Quakeguy on the left, the one on the right side looks like the fanmade class: The Agent, the guy with the bazooka might a reference to Day of Defeat? That game set the foundations for TF2.
>>1052864 It may not be a consistent or well planned ending, but it is at least a heartfelt one and one that ain't complete dogshit. As we've seen over the years with other media, that's a helleva lot better than what could've been.
>Valve just resolved TF2's storyline after all these years Between this, Deadlock, and the Steam Deck, Valve really has come out of their shell in recent years. Do you think the rumors are true, that they're actually making the big one?
>>1052955 >that they're actually making the big one?
>>1052955 >the big one They are already making Deadlock, I doubt they are doing other projects on top of it.
>>1052864 My feelings exactly. They could not have spelled "we're done with this project and you should also move on as well" if they went in the street and shouted it from every rooftop. I guess that what's sting the most is how much more potential the actual game had that will never really be realized outside of niche communities like Uncletopia or the VSH one. Only thing I didn't like about the comic is Medic having nothing to do. At least Demoman has a few panels. >>1052906 I'm sure they retconned a ton of stuff, this is a 7 year too late ending to the story. But the parallel to the forever-war status of TF2 as a game and the excuse plot just to keep it going makes sense - the only reason to keep fighting is for the fighting itself and no real objective.
>>1052880 Probably won't unless you're a long time fan. Lost interest in tf2 a while back myself. Still, I find endings sad more often than not.

>>1053012 >My feelings exactly. They could not have spelled "we're done with this project and you should also move on as well" if they went in the street and shouted it from every rooftop. I'll keep playing it until i'm dead.
>>1052906 I think the Administrator's story, best depicted by the cover image(s), is that her parents (maybe her grandparents as well or maybe her replacement guardians, etc) were effected by the Mann family's greed. Either they got caught in the crossfire of the wars the Mann family had waged with themselves while trying to get "the perfect heir" or maybe her parents were involved in some other way. I dont really have an explanation for why she appears to be at the same age in all three pictures and is surrounded by dead bodies of people wearing apparently different clothing. But in the last picture you can see they were apparently manufacturing weapons and took poison together, presumably at the horror of whatever they were doing. We do know whatever beef she had with Zepheniah was revealed to him on his deathbed before he died (for the first time) in one sentence or so. She did tell Zeph when she took on the job that she doesn't know him, but that could have been a lie, not to mention how she seemed super eager to get the job and rushed in on her own. Oddly enough, I don't feel like I 'need' to know why she did it exactly, only that it was some kind of form of revenge in mind. Only thing we don't really have an answer on is why blu and red each had the same mercenaries, but for all we know in the Red team had the mercs we're familiar with and Blu had some other rejects. I really don't know if they even want to answer that one.
>>1053110 > but for all we know in the Red team had the mercs we're familiar with and Blu had some other rejects Outside of the elephant in the room that is the ´´MEET THE TEAM´´, the comics make it more than explicit that there is only one team of mercenaries for each generation, which suggests that both mercenaries take turns, that's why everyone calls Red and Blu are their bosses, that's why in the post MvM comics Scout and Spy remember the events of the comic where they kill Old Nick but they are Blu, that's why in the MvM comic update everyone They dress in mixed clothes, and that's why the engi wears blue in all these comics, besides the fact that several times it is said that they killed each other, there is only 1 team, TEAM FORTRESS >>1053185 What the hell are you talking about?

I really liked this ending, happiness for all our boys.
>>1053254 Who are you quoting?
>>1053110 I think the three different tragic backstories are representative of the administrator slowly forgetting why she's seeking vengeance.
>>1053270 That makes sense
Can anyone recommend a good .cbr reader? I'm using Icecream Ebook Reader at the moment but it keeps stalling for 10 seconds and wants me to subscribe to a live service for a fucking ereader.
>>1053270 I like that explanation >>1053334 SumatraPDF is FOSS, I use it personally.
>>1053334 Mcomix. It handles double page reading really well.
>>1053369 >>1053374 Thanks anons. I didn't know Sumatra did .cbr
Did scouts mom die? She wasn't at the Smissmas dinner.
>>1053032 It makes no sense to me, from an in-universe perspective, why they would call themselves "Team Fortress". Is there something I missed here? It has been years since I read the comics.
>>1053477 There were other teams named in the comic such as Team Ajax, Team Citadel, and Team Echelon. All killed by the Classic mercs.
>>1053334 CDisplay EX is by far my favorite .cbr reader and I've tried like half a dozen at this point.
>>1053510 >Team Ajax >Team Citadel >Team Echelon Considering the 4 teams mode made its debut in TFC called "murderball", maybe those were the names of green and yellow teams? The comics easily set the foundations for many spinoffs, but then: Valve won't do dick, more polygon slop instead of innovating.
(523.13 KB 1111x411 MeetTheDirector_Titlecard.png)

>>1053110 Pretty much this. In the game it doesn't really matter why you're blowing up a rocket launching facility or why you're taking briefcases full of documents conveniently placed in opposing buildings. The Administrator having revenge for the sake of revenge is entirely within the logic of the world of TF2. EVERYONE in the universe but the mercs wants a forever war because it's the only way they have any agency in the world around them. In fact, the mercs and Pauling are the only ones who are capable of breaking the cycle because, on the one hand, half of them are too retarded to understand the implications of their actions, and on the other hand the smarter guys want an exit option. It's telling that the Engineer is the only one who does not participate in any of this besides working on the side as the tard wrangler for the Administrator. >>1053230 Since we know that both RED and BLU employ a variety of workers and mercenaries, it's not impossible to think that in-lore/comic, the main 9 guys are just killing random no-name characters filling their roles, while in-game this is depicted as identical versions of each other. Also don't forget that the Meet the Team films in-universe are supposed to be propaganda/publicity stunts made by RED to try and hire more people. It's likely that the main 9 mercs are just moonlighting/dressing up as incompetent BLU mercenaries, and special effects / the Medigun just takes care of the gory bits.
Guess I'll reinstall TF2 and try a few match.
>>1053576 >Pointless war must keep going <Just to build the world's most profitable business I get it, but they should've gone retconning the game's unanswered questionable logic features. You sort of answered the question on why they're fighting themselves in different colors but how do you explain the duplicates in the same team? Not to mention there's official artwork recognizing such jarring logic even in the animated Meet The series also alluded that, specially in the Meet The Medic video where a fuckton of soldiers are chasing down the medic's hospital. Other thing that could easily have its own comic is how they're brought back from the death while keeping their memories intact, but I guess the closest thing is to an answer is Emesis Blue
>>1054055 It's theorized their DNA and various scans used to revive them have been stolen/shared by both sides so many times and for so long that mid match both sides can revive/spawn all of the characters. Then after the end of the days rounds, the duplicates are removed and the originals just return to their bases.
>>1053716 Yeah, I've tried that as well. Its a mixed experience to say the least, and not because of bots but because there are too many 1000 hour veterans pub-stomping. Its why I stopped playing TF2 7 years back. Most matches are unevenly balanced with one side filled with glowing hats with thousands of hours, and the other largely filled with new players or those with less than 100 hours. And the outcome is always what you'd expect What's worse than losing matches is that you can't even have fun while you're losing. You'll scarcely get more than one kill before dying yourself, unless you're already one of those veteran players I tried changing my settings, practicing, all the autistic shit, but no matter how much you practice or how much you play, there's no "getting good" enough to scale that mountain. I guess there's just no point in playing PvP games unless you're there from day one.
(401.06 KB 720x386 Gabe Newell at Epstein's.png)

>>1054356 >What's that? You want more faggy cosmetics by the cucks at TF2 Emporium?
>>1054356 As someone with 3k hours in it, you just have to put the hours in. I picked up apex this year and it took about 400 hours to start winning often enough against randoms, but I dropped it because unlike that game I can play casually in tf2 with a silly loadout and still win. Most teams fail because of team composition for the game mode, an engineer for teleporters to cut down long walks and medic for keeping people alive with crossbow uber to break chokepoints. The only unfair thing about the game is you need to modify your config files to do extremely well, like right click pulls out my secondary weapon as soldier instead of scroll wheel or 2. A guy on jewtube called Woolen Sleevelet made the one I still use today and a long video explaining it, with a few modifications I haven't kept track of. If you want to make friends just queue exclusively for powerhouse until you find one with an argument over something retarded, this means the teams are evenly matched. The map either rolls over in 5 minutes or you hold back them feeding into your team for 10-120 minutes. Lastly, most people don't have enough mousepad to aim properly at lower sensitivity, and the hitscan weapons do a lot better if you don't miss, so use soldier and aim at feet if that doesn't work out.
>>1054356 This, but also even if a game comes out TODAY I know I can't keep up with it due to a job and other life obligations taking too much time, pitting me against those with less obligations who just focus it hard every day I would fall behind, and it would just feel worse as time goes on.
>>1053257 The TF2 mercs are probably the most solid characters in videogame history. And I don't exactly mean 'well developed' or anything, but that it's a perfect application of the KISS principle to the basic concept (visual, voice, playstyle, everything) of each character, and then giving a wacky twist on the actual details. Instead of blood type you get that Pyro is so insane he practically lives in an alternate reality, or something. All of them are unhinged lunatics you probably don't want rolling around in civilized society, but that's the charm. How it will age onwards will be interesting. Will TF2 survive another generation? Is it going to just be a timeless game? (obviously not) I think it has stayed relevant longer than even Quake has. >>1054426 That's probably why "low-stakes" co-op live service games are getting so much traction. If I have an hour a day to play, I'd rather get in a game of W40k Space Marine, Helldivers 2, or Deep Rock Galactic than stress out playing some dogshit MOBA. Monster Hunter Wilds will be a huge success because of that. Depends on how they handle it's aspects. There's a growing market of gamers (read: wagies) who don't have time in the day, and can't spend two weeks of their life grinding out a game to get to a reasonable level.
>>1054429 All 3 of those co-op games also don't need more money to unlock more gameplay. Same for plenty of others.
>>1054429 People already say its dead.
>>1054464 Which is fucking stupid, casual gamers consider anything that doesn't pull League or CoD numbers "dead". Nothing in the Steam top 500 should be considered dead.
haha
>>1053260 my error >>1053474 >Did scouts mom die nope, They already said that she is still alive >>1053477 The real question is if the classic team called themselves TEAM FORTRESS. If so, Ms P saying "WE ARE TEAM FORTRESS2 " is only to highlight that they are the team now. >>1053576 As I already said, that will always be the elephant in the room, we can say that the meet the team are all acted, but there are more points in favor that show that there are only 9 mercenaries, you never see others, when the sniper arrives to work in In that comic you only see the usual ones, and most importantly, they are known as THE TEUFORT 9 >>1054055 In the prelude to the comics they tell you very clearly, the game is a dramatization, so it is not 100% faithful to the events that happened, suggesting why there may be duplicate characters on both teams, in addition to the fact that it can be played with 12 members, when in the canon there were only 9 people who took turns as a team
>>1054518 canon
>>1054407 Makes sense that the TFC mercs were just as much of a threat as the TF2 mercs. After all, we played them, as well
>>1054424 Any loadout advice?

>>1054576 Engineer, use the eureka effect for a week. Faster teleporter setup, you can pilfer metal easily, swap to any other primary if you want widowmaker or frontier justice or rescue ranger, and warp to sapped teleporters. Just hold the wrangler and run away from ubers so they waste time killing it as well. Medic, use the crossbow as it's faster for healing than even the quick fix, making medigun or kritzkeig the best options. Pyro can run basically anything, I like backburner with detonator jumping as the airblast penalty is mitigated by corpse ammo. Scout just use stock, spy just use stock but you can use lentranger or diamondback with spysicle if you're trying to sap teleporter entrances at the enemy spawn. Soldier can use anything but the original/stock with banners and the whip are what I often use, the shotgun is good too and the cow mangler can disable teleporters and dispensers as an uncommon useful interaction. Demoman use stock, hold right click and use stickies until you get used to it, but all of his weapons are usable. Heavy use tomislav, sandvich, gloves of running urgently. Sniper does good with any rifle you're comfortable descoping often with, piss melee combo or stock smg for other slots.

>>1054596 Eureka effect is a terrible wrench for starter engineers. Have him use the Jag or Mini sentry first. Better for quick builds which means if they get destroyed for bad positioning, he can just build them again quickly with little disruption. Good positioning for an engineer isn't solely learned by playing as Engineer but also by playing against Engineers (good ones). Take note of what the sentry range is and where it would be most effective at denying an area to an enemy or creating/holding a chokepoint. Since the jag and gunslinger allow for quick building, you don't have to worry about repositioning your buildings often like you would with a stock wrench or eureka effect, especially if you don't own the Wrangler - which by the way, is a rather advanced Engineer item but really great for defense moreso than it ever is good for offense. Use it quickly if you notice your sentry is in trouble of being picked off by a distant soldier or demoman.

Lead developer for TF3 here. As some of you may know, we at valve prefer to only make sequels that innovate in some fashion instead of making sequels for the sake of making sequels, hence why we didn’t make a new half-life game until be tech was good enough to do so. Sadly, due to spending years doing sweet FA, our creative faculties have become emaciated and after making deadlock we’re all outta ideas. As such, we’re turning to obscure mongolian pottery carving web forms for inspiration. Please propose how you would design Team Fortress 3 If you don’t come up with anything good we’ll have to rip off marvel rivals
>>1056130 Make it like splatfests where the 6 teams in >>1054407 are mirror matchups except for 1% of the time. Like the team fortress members only fight other team fortress members in the setting's traditional badlands, and a 50% chance that it's an away match on a different map setting or home match that 1%, so metafags don't all cluster onto one team.
>>1056130 Tell valve to fix the god damn VAC system, it has been months since the 64bit udpate and VAC still kicks linux players for the vague reason that "an issue with your system is preventing VAC from working" apparenlty this has been an ongoing issue with CS:GO for YEARS, so they must have brought TF2's VAC to parity with CS:GO and there is zero solutions
>>1056130 Bring back the YLW and GRN teams for one. Not present on every map, but sorta how TF2C handles it where certain maps allow for them to show up every once in a while Now the next innovation would be fully dynamic hitboxes which correspond to what a character is wearing, as well as how they move and where their vitals are located. You can keep it cartoony, but something like Darktide how metal parts on a character's body will make the bullet bounce off harmlessly. Make flak armor actually contain explosions. Make blood drip from enemies whenever they are hit on bare flesh. Make normal guns capable of headshots as well, where applicable. Make cosmetic usage detrimental to the user when they sacrifice protection for fashion.
>>1056187 TF2 actually does have programming for dynamic hitboxes (see Headshots, but each body part's hitbox actually does correspond to the player animation and hit locations).
>>1056130 Make the new entry based on the defunct teams or the first ever mercenaries during the wild west era? Pretty sure the last issue confirms the current TF2 mercenaries are the last generation, so why not a prequel, interquel or coquel to both entries?
>>1056130 In the vain hopes that this is legit not fucking likely, but a man can dream you have a few ideas already floating around; Wild-West Era teams. The actually amazing teams that were hinted at in the comic, not the failures that we played as during TF2. With all the robot shit that happened, an actual future human/robot war, or human loyalist/rebel robots warring against each other because of some mangled version of Asimov's three laws, this time with actually good form instead of looking like barely functional piles of scrap bouncing around pretending to be human. Or the Australium got found a few technological epochs later after it was dumped in the ocean, and the research continues, this time more focused its passive benefits rather than consuming it en masse to keep motherfuckers alive far past any legitimate reason to continue. Hopefully with less rainbow hair and more actually high technology bullshit like energy shields and particle accelerator weapons, or plasma cannons, you know, the good FUN shit that everyone fucking ignores and for no good goddamn reason.

I like centimeters per 360 as a better measurement, look at a corner and see if you can do a 360 on your mousepad to look at the corner again. Between 25-40 is pretty good for tf2, there isn't an answer but you should get a mousepad large enough to try a handful for weeks at a time. It's difficult to get used to, but glass is a good mousepad material for less drag if you can afford it. Unfortunately a lot of modern players have been clinging onto Valve seeing as it's in fashion right now to dicksuck corporations, so I think TF2 essentially going open-source is going to be a transition period for them. Notably, I think this does signal that no more effort is going towards the anticheat and the "main game" is only staying up for the hats as long as people buy them. I think it's great to have some sort of closure but it's going to be up to the fans to keep the ship afloat. Given the talent present though and the presence of community figures like shounic I think the prospect isn't as hard as it seems.

Okay too bad their 64bit update effectively soft-banned me from the game on any VAC protected server. I don't outright get kicked from a server, it takes 15 minutes exactly for VAC to boot me for the vague reason "An issue with your computer has prevented VAC from working, ligma." An issue that existed for anyone on linux trying to play CS:GO and jumped onto TF2, I'm guessing they brought VAC to parity between the two. The issues have received little to no attention on either issue trackers for the games.
>>1072658 > Personally, I hope this leads to having servers that can go over 64 playable characters for maximum chaos, although I'm not a game developer/modder, so I don't really know how these things work. I remember seeing a youtube video about five years ago where they got a 100 person server operating smoothly through MASSIVE performance constraints. No hats (thereby fixing the game), lowering model polygon counts, removing visual effects, etc. This should make that even more stable.
>>1072684 The source code release proves they're never going to fix it. You know that, right? This is the prelude to TF3, which will have totally different code and therefore not be affected by the 100% perfect bots that can now exist thanks to this release.

This is an SDK, not the source code. The updates have slowed down to a crawl, the art style is embarrassing, the characters aren't particularly memorable, and it's extremely unfriendly to new players. Unlike with Dota 2, Icefrog can't depend on a dedicated fanbase like those who played Dota Allstars to migrate over and keep it at a healthy level of players. It's likely a full year out at least from getting a release, and the hype train around Deadlock already came and went. >>1072661 That's a human?
>>1074289 Technically that was Open Fortress, but the dev that sent the initial email was also on TF2C. TF2C and OF were technically taken down but not with a threat.
>>1075334 We don't know whether or not it was a C&D. The tweet said Valve told them to take it down and they were working on an "arrangement". https://offshore.teamfortress.community/ I believe this may be officially recognized. https://www.teamfortress.com/?tab=news It was posted about in the News section of the TF2 blog and is very much unlike what they usually post there (tournament news and charity shit) Since the summer 'update' is around the corner, it just seems a little coincidental.
>>1082467 Big may. Even with the very few new things they’ve put out recently, it’s still not enough to make me hope for anything from them, especially not TF2. Which is sad because the community is doing all the work here and all they’d have to do is push a button, but valve are just that lazy. It will talk more that a few twitches to make me think the Fatman is ready to walk again.

REDchanit.xyz Servers Comfy servers ranging from heavily modded to totally vanilla where the only consistent rule is not to cheat (aimbot). More info and active server list here: https://redchanit.xyz/servers.html Most Source and GoldSrc servers use 'rtv' in chat to change map. Team Fortress 2 Servers >TF2: Vanilla (No bullshit, no downloads): Aside from vanilla Sourcemod, there are no changes to the default settings (of note) here. TF2 the way Valve intended. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27664 >TF2: Vanilla (Except Sniper is not allowed): For if you want a game night where you don't have to watch your head. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27663 >TF2: Custom Maps No holds barred, everyting from MARIO_KART to harbl_hotel, wacky_races_v2, ctf_convoy, balloon_race, you name it. It's here. Has a quota of eight bots by default. If you want, I can remove or lower that value. Also features bunnyhopping! Hold space to autohop, strafe keys to build speed. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:25565 >TF2: VScript Maps Same as the Custom Maps server, but with maps that shake up the game a lot more, like Deathmatch mode, Minecraft or Versus Saxton Hale. Features MvM Upgrade versions of lots of maps, including MARIO_KART, harbl, Highertower (Trash Upgrades which are so powerful they can crash the server) etc. Also has a quota of 8 bots, let me know if you want that changed. Also features bunnyhopping! Hold space to autohop, strafe keys to build speed. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:51840 >TF2: SoapDM Deathmatch If you want to 1v1 or freely deathmatch with players with no penalty or objective, this is the place. Lots of maps with open spawns. Also features bunnyhopping! Hold space to autohop, strafe keys to build speed. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27335 Team Fortress 2 Classic https://tf2classic.com/ >TF2C: Custom Weapons, 4-Team Maps, VIP Maps, Custom Maps & More 4Fort, scrapped weapons from TF2C's past, and a bunch of 4-team maps and more of varying quality. Also bunnyhopping. Go nuts. Every TF2C vanilla map and a bunch of custom ones (again such as MARIO_KART etc) are here. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27020 >TF2C: Vanilla 2Fort You like 2Fort? This is just 2Fort, no bells or whistles. Defaults to two bots so you can bully one while you wait for playres. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27979 >TF2C: 2007 Simulator If you miss old TF2, this is the place to be. I don't wanna hear no complaining about a lack of airblasting or hauling, cuz you asked for it!

They crash on non-CTF maps so the rotation is all CTF. There's another server in the list that is pure vanilla with no bots if you want that instead. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:27974 Fortress Forever: Source SDK 2013 Install Fortress Forever, right-click it, change your Beta to SDK 2013. >FF Server Pretty much vanilla, but tons of custom maps, motsly deathmatch ones. steam://connect/play.redchanit.xyz:23535 Mumble Very simple, contains root and four team-colored channels to hang out or strategize in. play.redchanit.xyz:64738

Im finally getting into the game 15 years too late, I always thought it was just some silly mindless game but it actually seemingly has a very high skill ceiling. Any tips? I'm really liking Scout, using scattergun and pretty boy and hamshank Is ranked still a thing?
>>1196947 just go play causal and play various game modes if you feeling good try out the community servers for custom maps or gamemodes.
>>1196947 >Is ranked still a thing Never was, at least officially. The scene is entirely grassroots and when Valve "attempted" (half-assed) it, it permanently soured the general playerbase on it entirely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHtmqtsRi3I >Any tips? For Scout specifically, he's the best 1v1 class in the game, but also map dependent. Short of sentries and cracked Snipers there's not much that you can't overcome. Never play fair, and only commit to fights where you have an advantage. Soldiers are usually depending on splash damage to hit you so try to jump unpredictably, the good ones can nail you with an air shot if you're not careful Demoman is ez kill if you're up in his face, either harass him or don't engage if he's in mid range spamming stickies A Heavy revved up can delete you, otherwise he's too fat dumb and ugly to do anything if you catch him off guard (bonus points if you can sweep his medic before he notices anything) Scout mirror is pure skill and ego, they're also pretty easy players to tilt, so if you get in their heads they'll either back off or rage hack Target medics, loners, and weakened players. If you can sneak past the enemy and they have an engineer take out any teleporters to cripple them Use your pistol to clean up kills or pepper sentries from afar Always taunt after dominations for max salt mining
>>1196947 basically never take fair fights. only fight someone when you know you can win. Use your movement to be really hard to hit >is ranked still a thing official "ranked" is shit. nobody plays it https://newbie.tf/ join newbie mixes this friday 9pm eastern. Your entire job as scout is shoot soldiers out of the sky for 30 minutes like it's duck hunt. it's honestly really fun stuff idk where you go if you're not in north america
>>1196947 Protect the support classes, control high ground, look for 1v1s, cleanup kills in ubers, pressure the objective, deny bombing soldiers, and draw as much attention as possible annoying the enemy team. Scout is the DM god and you should use your mobility to pick your fights. Don't hold W at the enemy team like a bot, stay at a distance chipping them down and go in for the kill when they're distracted/low on health/need to reload/etc. Large open areas with lots of props to jump on is where scout wants to be. Choke points are death. Loadout doesn't really matter. Scout has a lot of good unlocks. I run stock/stock/atomizer in pubs. I've needed pistol's 3 extra bullets to finish off a heavy or sentry far more times than I've been saved by PBPP's heal but they're both excellent choices.

>>1201275 The orange parts can be removed, but I agree it is lame. They made it that way so that it is 'cosplay convention safe' >>1199941 In my experience, the pistol is just not very good for offense when it does so little damage and requires you to be in the line of fire of enemies who most likely have weapons that can hit you at a similar range, and since Scout has far less HP than everyone else, you lose those interactions far more often than you win them. For that reason, I have always favored the Mad Milk or Cleaver for scout - tending towards the former. It's actually not very commonly good for restoring your OWN health since you have very little of it anyways, but moreso for restoring your teammates' health (by throwing it on enemies in a chokepoint which will increase your teammates' resolve for taking a risk and pushing against enemies since they know they'll heal off of the mad milk enough to mitigate a good chunk of damage). In addition to that, it's absolutely invaluable for extinguishing yourself from fire which is more often than not going to be lethal in any extended pyro engagement as scout, even if the pyro only gets a few licks of damage against you or a lucky flare gun shot, the afterburn will either leave you at very low health or zero health. Extinguishing that right away after disengaging or after killing a pyro will save your life many times over. In addition, I ALWAYS use the Wrap Assassin since it's essentially what the pistol accomplishes but better (except against buildings, which Scouts should only rarely be expected to take out anyways even in the best circumstances). It's great for ranged harassment and allows you to GTFO quickly without exposing yourself too much. It crits very easily due to distance alone, which can easily halve the health of any enemy with even a modest health pool. It does reduced damage, but really, as a Scout you shouldn't be melee'ing ANYONE unless you're in a clusterfuck close quarters fight. Stock scatterFUN is the best weapon for any situation, though I occasionally use the Force A Nature for maps that have tight corridors or chokepoints. I hate the Force a Nature since it basically prevents you from dodging as Scout. I personally like to dodge by jumping around and over enemies, especially heavies, but that won't be possible if the Force stalls you in mid-air because you shot the gun while jumping. Scattergun is excellent at close range and mid range, and like anon said, you really should only be getting close enough to touch enemies if you're focusing on a 1v1 or if you're hitting a distracted enemy or group that will not be focusing on you. In a bygone era, I would recommend Sandman 9 times out of 10 for Scout's melee even with the reduced HP pool since the stun of the Sandman was honestly fucking invaluable, both as a support tool and as a way to pick off enemies. It's the biggest tragedy of the world that they removed it and made Sandman worth less than a bowl of piss. It's honestly the same as if they removed Pyro's ability to airblast.
>>1201574 >In my experience, the pistol is just not very good for offense when it does so little damage and requires you to be in the line of fire of enemies who most likely have weapons that can hit you at a similar range Pistol has greater effective range than the scattergun and at max rampup it melts people doing more dps than a level 2 sentry. It's the closest thing TF2 has to the lightning gun. Yes you can cornerpeak with the scattergun but that's easily punishable by splash damage. >Scout has far less HP than everyone else, you lose those interactions far more often than you win them. You have to fuck up hard to lose the soldier/demo matchup if you are playing scout correctly. You have a hitscan weapon while they have to get a direct hit with slow projectiles and you can easily deny an explosive jump so they are as mobile as a heavy. Pyro is a free kill and the heavy matchup is about positioning and timing than anything. You can go in with the scattergun to guarantee the kill but you risk getting shredded by the minigun if the heavy's aim is on point. Pistol can soften him up from a distance with virtually no risk. In a perfect world but casual teammates are retarded. Milk doesn't highlight targets the same way jarate does or give them the mini crit sound so they rarely follow up on it. Cleaver is definitely a solid option but it does jack shit against sentries which are a much bigger problem for scout. No I don't trust my teammates to deal with the sentries. You really shouldn't have any trouble staying out of pyro's range. Scout curbstomps pyro and it's not even close. If you take a significant amount of afterburn you were in a bad position. How is a 15 damage projectile + 40 damage bleed even remotely comparible to the pistol? Even at max falloff pistol still does almost twice as much damage in a single clip. >Stock scatterFUN is the best weapon for any situation. Sodapopper has the same DPS as the scattergun. It's a viable if less fun option. Scout's other primaries are definitely weaker than stock in but you can still make them work with the right playstyle. Shortstop shares the pistol's strengths making scout more threatening at medium range and it's his best anti engineer weapon. Force a nature gives scout more mobility and can launch players off cliffs. BFB is great for distraction plays in the enemy backlines
(211.30 KB 1360x768 TF2 from another era.jpg)

A memory from 2009 or so. Balloon race version 1. I was playing as a heavy weapons guy. SOMEHOW, I managed to sneak aboard the enemy team's ship before they could get out of the starting bay. This means they can't spawn in the ship and have to actually board it from the outside. I got so many fucking kills. I'd drop a few guys and eat my sandvich to recover what little damage I took, and was nigh invulnerable. I was laughing crying because no one could stop me. Spies tried to slip in and get a backstab, but it was no good; I just spun and tore them down. I tried to explain over the voice chat, "Just spawn as a bunch of demos and spam grenades in here". They couldn't coordinate or figure it out, so my team hit the first two capture points before they were able to dislodge me. That's about the most fun I've ever had in a video game.
>>1201574 >>1203000 Key thing about the wrap assassin and pistol is they don't share the same slot. You can fire off a wrap assassin projectile, switch to the pistol and end up doing more long range damage using both than just one or the other. Pistol has some competition in the secondary slot (especially Pretty Boy that plenty of people call an upgrade on pistol) but turning down wrap assassin often does feel like turning down free long range damage for no reason. Unless you plan on making good use of the atomizer or wanna help a medic charge uber with boston basher. >>1201574 >It's honestly the same as if they removed Pyro's ability to airblast Removing airblast cripples pyro far more. Scout has plenty of value without sandman, pre-airblast pyro was pretty much unanimously agreed to be the worst class in the game with little reason to play him without it. There's a reason every time an "old tf2" mod gets made people inevitably go "but no seriously we're going to give pyro airblast right?"
>>1203400 I've played a fair bit with both. Wrap assassin wasn't that consistent or high impact but I used the atomizer jump CONSTANTLY. So many spots on every map you need that third jump for. Hell I just like having it to get out of bad situations. Soldiers never expect that third jump when they prefire a rocket where you land. If it works for you cool but for me I never want to switch off atomizer.

Sadly what helps him do that is having the only moderately stable server base in the entire game, which sucks because limiting classes is so fucking boring and everyone is trying to win at all costs (I hate friendlies but I hate removing the option of being one more). >>1154224 Just post it here? If you're contemplating on using dicksord you've already pretty much lost. >>1184023 Use the Dalokohs bar with them to abuse the source glitch and stop trying to get into Melee range with them unless it's for the funny. >>1196947 >I always thought it was just some silly mindless game but it actually seemingly has a very high skill ceiling. It also has an absurdly low skill floor though. Just pick any class you like the most visually and play a bunch of games in either Casual or some insta-respawn servers to get the hang of the basic mechanics, then either proceed to Team Fortress Classic if you want the good ole 2007-2009 TF2 experience, or go buy some 1 dollarydoo trinket to get access to the full game (like with voice commands and calling medics, blame Volvo and OMEGATRONIC for that) or just repeatedly look up new servers in the server browser to find your own little niche (personally I like servers that just have the base game rotation but those are few and far between). Be mindful of the fact that there's like a gorillion different game mechanics that are not explained anywhere in the game and playing with bots does not help at all. At best, if you wanna improve your knowledge of the game without just experiencing it on a match by match basis, install tr_walkway (more info on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8on-6xguJ4 ) and fuck around with it until you get the hang of specific weapons/unlocks. Similarly, there's just as many game modes, some official, some unofficial. For example, there's a Player vs. Server game mode called VS Saxton Hale that has both an unofficial plugin (where the majority of content is) and an official map pool (watered down version but much more balanced and populated with less autistic individuals). >Ranked Technically yes but only troons and deranged individuals care. If you like the Mann vs Machine, for example (the premiere Cooperative mode of the game) get ready to meet them on a daily basis, otherwise you may play everything TF2 has to offer without ever interacting with any of them. Basically in TF2 you find your own fun, rather than getting told by someone else how to interact with the game. By design, winning or losing is entirely up to your own personal feelings of what counts as either.

>>1221011 Well, it's true, you're technically not punished for losing or playing suboptimal, nor meaningfully rewarded for winning or playing the meta. You can go for a high killstreak or k:d ratio, play the objective, grind achievements or weapon e-peen, fuck around with a meme loadout or even just hang out in spawn using the Schadenfreude taunt and asking for a dispenser near a pool of water as Demoman. If you played some shitty game like Doverwatch the only objective would be winning the match. >>1222066 Comp faggots hate stalling matches, Engineer, Heavy and too many Demomen stall matches, hence why they force situations (like 6v6) where the less players are around at any point in time, the more action single-elimination classes like Sniper and Scout get.

>>1242538 >Some of the best games of all time like Melee were never meant to be played competitively. Thats completely irrelevant Apples to oranges. When competitive players which make up 3% of the playerbase starts making suggestions to the developer to change the base game to their wants and needs, that other 97% of casual players will leave the game. Keep the base game and competitive mode separate and the game will stay alive, or design the base game in such a way when its still being developed to easily become an eSport ready game. Go look up the worldwide Google Trends graph for TF2, and tell me when search interest started to dip (hint: it's 2016). TF2 was designed to be a casual game made for a 32-player clusterfuck of a server designed with the illusion of your team having teamwork, go look up interviews of Robin Walker about the game and old dev notes. Competitive TF2 is way too different from the casual game it is. Might as well make a new game instead of ruining the base game.
>>1242662 I am against "balance" patches of any sort, its a crutch for bad game design. the best competitive games never received a single update and still have a changing meta after decades
>>1239487 I killed them all
>>1242538 >Some of the best games of all time like Melee were never meant to be played competitively >Retards cant handle an evolving meta Pretty much this, it's why I love games like Advance Wars By Web, they fuck around with the settings and let players choose the meta for themselves. Aside from the map selection, which is definitely a sekrit club sort of deal, the tiering for each map is extremely democratic and the site owners take great care in making sure the competitive league stays fresh while the casual league can do whatever the hell they want with it. >>1242662 >Might as well make a new game instead of ruining the base game. If you're holding second and the enemy loses 2 players. It's now a 4v6. You immediately go from defensive to offensive. The enemy knows this and is backing up. It becomes a race over who can gain the most ground. A 7v9 on the other hand means you have enough players holding chokepoints where the only thing the enemy can do is pressure for their sac wave But lets say the enemy does sac. A sac (aka sacrifice) is a way of going in and dying to kill or force the other med to gain uber advantage. If the other team doesn't respect your uber advantage, you can uber in and wipe everyone. What good is a sac to force 1 medic when the enemy team has 3 ubers? It's just another stalemate scenario. 1 med can play super baity to never be forced. other 2 medics can just tank each other to never get forced Congrats you've just created the most stalemate prone gamemode ever

>>1242538 >evolving meta What part of "spam demoman with medic" did you not get?

TF2 competitive has never, nor will ever be anything. you're a retarded newfag for trying to pretend otherwise.
>>1196947 Scout is fun. The """meta""" loadout is stock scattergun, stock pistol/winger/milk, and the boston basher (to damage yourself and let medics gain more uber off healing the damage). Start playing Soldier and shooting feet for sick frags.
>>1249428 I'm nearly 30 ofc there were some people complaining about them then, but I feel it has reached a fever pitch in recent years. Random crits are responsible for the funniest shit that happens in this game and there really aren't any other games that do this.
>>1053716 >>1054356 I mean, the chances are that even if you duo and are good, the rest of your team is fucking too fucking retarded. 3 snipers, 4 spies, 2 scouts, all of them withn no more than 4 points after a 20 minute match. If you go medic, they want heals and they literally kick you from the server if you refuse to heal them for being useless. The only people playing are retarded brazilians because the game is free, bots, and losers who haven't moved on. I'm sorry, but I say this as someone who clocked 2k hours before 2012. You have a medic that heals people, a fucking flamethrower guy, a guy that shoots fucking rockets, a guy with a fucking minigun, and you like the guy with the shotgun who runs fast? why, cuz it reminds you of apex? Learn how to fucking play a power class, like soldier or demo, or even go heavy, learn to control the flow of battle by dealing a lot of damage to a lot of people, and once you get that and start winning games, keep doing it, and then you'll start to fucking understand the point of scout. Also, play fucking medic at least once every other round or every 2 rounds. God. everyfucking noob wants to play scout. i bet you spend a lot of time on the bottom 3rd of the leaderboard
>>1243432 >random crits are fun, fair, and balanced >if you hate them, you're fucking trash. period. kys. Finally, someone who isn't a fucking retard. Also, sick get.

>>1250059 Aside from the usual drama coming from people who work on this sort of projects, it's pretty much the best version of non Vanilla TF2 around. The weapons they added have actually tangible gameplay differences compared to most of TF2's sidegrades, there's a big emphasis on fucking around like in the ancient 2007-2009 era and the Civillian is implemented excellently, it almost feel like something the original developers could have come up with. Main gripe with it though is that it's definitely NOT a classic game experience and some stuff is objectively unbalanced. Also, doesn't help that there's like a gorillion custom weapons. I'm calling it even better than the VIP mode from TF2 Classic, since you barely get to do anything as the second best class in the game if you get the role of Civilian, a lot of people throw the game by being suicidal and it devolves in WWI era spamming until a single key target is taken down and everything snowballs from there. Mobster VIP instead: >Super quick rounds thanks to the compact map designs, so no one bails before the timer runs out >Mobster follows the OG Valve design philosophy: distinctive silhouette, distinctive skill set, fun to play as and to play against, memorable SHORT quotes >Every class is viable since it's basically Attack/Defend with an extra step, and since the goal is to kill or save one single guy you can also use pick classes like Scout and Spy and still feel like you contributed something to the game >Steamrolls are infrequent because all you need to do is kill the Mobster as RED to stop the timer on the Control Points >Anti frustration features, if the Mobster throws then all that has to happen is either he gets killed by RED or if he stays in spawn for too long someone takes his place >No VS Saxton Hale / TF2C VIP situations where players abandon/spectate/throw because they didn't get to pway as the twenth cwass and it's not fwaiw :(((( instead, you get a turn so long as the old boss is dead >Mobster can only spawn by picking up a briefcase in/near spawn, meaning there's a bit more thought put into when it's best to get him on the field >Big ass fat Italian requires team work to actually capture points since he doesn't deal nearly as much damage as you'd think he does, but at the same time he's much tankier than he looks, forcing both BLU and RED to play the objective for a change >A lot of attention to detail, the devs keep adding new voice lines to both Mobster and Mercs, plus all the paid taunts in the game can be replicated by the Mobster >Devs are super responsive and keep checking in on matches to make sure everything works, ironing bugs left and right >COMMUNITY SERVERS THAT ARE ACTUALLY POPULATED AND NOT JUST BOTS YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS ONE UP IN 2025 Mode of the year for me

Dunno if this goes here, but it seems like Valve's gearing up Deadlock to become TF3 if this test footage from an employee's LinkedIn indicates anything. After so much time with nothing landing suddenly everything is happening.
>>1601294 I just don't see it working. I am not just speaking with rose-tinted glasses when I say that the TF2 mercs had much more soul and love put behind their characters than a single character in Deadlock could match. The Deadlock character designs are on-par with Overwatch 2 character designs. Almost like they were designed by committee.
>>1601446 >Almost like they were designed by committee. In the modern gayming industry which is driven by endless laws and regulations, not to mention social expectations and scrutiny from endless faggots and retards, they were. Either intentionally or otherwise. People have already started eating them up anyway.
>>1601446 they are fun to listen to ingame, even the shop guy is fun. They have cool archetypes like mirage sometimes sounding like a madman infight while being very softspoken while chatting
>>1601294 I still don't see Deadlock ever becoming popular enough to warrant dethroning TF2. The game is extremely cluttered visually, mentally taxing to play, let alone master, and generally speaking the two main fanbases (ASSFAGGOTS and hero shooters) don't really mesh all that well. >>1601446 >The Deadlock character designs are on-par with Overwatch 2 character designs This is the saddest part of all of this. Most games today, not even hero shooters per se, try and copy the OW formula without realizing that the only thing that held that game together was the copious amount of smut drawn of the main characters. Instead of taking the TF2 approach of creating silhouette based designs with easily distinguishable features and sprinkling details on top, modern games (including Volvo's) are basically a checklist of (fantasy) race + trait + personality.
>>1603013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wazNaAumy4Q the concept of magical glowies alone is interesting
