/egg/ - Engineering games general Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 16:50:51 Id: ae960d No. 1098317
Can I offer you an egg in these trying times? All games with engineering elements are welcome here during this darkest hour, yes even minecraft Common /egg/s: >Factorio, Satisfactory, Captain of Industry, Kerbal Space Program
>>1098317 I'm here to tell that factorio dev is based
>>1098332 There's certainly worse, but fuck him for adding an actual furnigger to the dev team and demanding 35 shekels for the DLC
Does the Incredible Machine count? The older versions with proper pixel art, of course.
anyone else looking forward to Captain of Industry's next update? I bet the trains are gonna be a ton of fun
(97.01 KB 1366x768 1698600012588.png)

Nothing to contribute except my old TIS100 code that I can no longer read.
>>1098348 Well he's a czech after all. There might ge reason why the funny mustache man wanted them gone
(802.77 KB 1474x884 1744822983.jpg)

>>1098400 Yes, got a curland map going right now, without trains the large distances make colonizing the whole map too costly to be worth it. Not sure if I'm going to restart after the update though, probably depends on how much balancing changes they will do. Here's my blast furnaces with integrated exhaust cleanup.
(316.41 KB 1379x776 dsp.jpg)

>ctrl+f >No Dyson Sphere Program wooow you niggers serious?
>>1098463 very nice, compact builds look really nice, especially all the belt and pipe spaghetti that ends up piling up everywhere
(692.38 KB 1474x876 1744829504.jpg)

This setup cleans waste water, turns sludge into fuel gas to run a waste incineration plant, and then uses the steam and exhaust heat to desalinate water for the settlement. It's almost self sustaining, wastewater treatment 2 should make it water positive. The compost gets dumped as fertilizer on the fields.
I miss our /egg/ bros.
I wasn't expecting to see you guys again I'm still playing Timberborn, decided to try Beverdome map out and it's really nice, bad tide is really punishing as there is no easy way of just diverting it off map, I'm currently using pumps to get only good water into my reservoir >>1098317 >even minecraft Sacrilege
>>1100278 don't worry, it will come back doubleyolked
Any electrical engineering games like retro gadgets or shenzhen io where I can make specific parts? I want to play around with segmented displays but can't bother to mod it in for the former game.
(85.26 KB 686x386 hq720 (6).jpg)

I wish I could get good enough for these type of games. The last level in 20th Century Food Court filtered me to hell and back. I do enjoy more casual production-chain-focused games like the City Builder series and Laysara but I'm just not very good at these sorts of things and forget it if you tell me to play a game without a fixed objective.
List of commonly discussed /egg/ games: Voxels, blocks and vehicle builders >Avorion >Besiege >Empyrion - Galactic Survival >From the Depths >Machinecraft >Robocraft >Scrap Mechanic >Space Engineers 2 +1 >Sprocket >Starbase >Starship EVO >Stationeers >Stormworks: Build and Rescue >TerraTech >Trailmakers Aerospace >Chode - Children of a Dead Earth >Flyout >Kerbal Space Program Logistics and factory management >Autonauts >Captain of Industry >Dyson Sphere Program >Factorio >Factory town >Infinifactory >Oxygen not Included >Satisfactory >Shapez >Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic Programming puzzles >Exapunks >Last Call BBS >Nandgame >Opus Magnum >Shenzhen I/O >SpaceChem >TIS-100 >Turing Complete

>>1112007 Post yer Corneroids ship, faget
This post pays tribute to all the Factoriotard scum for not being able to dominate /egg/ discourse.
What ate you working on? Lets start some discussion in this dead thread.
>>1116666 ~380 hours, still haven't finished phase 3. Trying to do this spaghetti free is overwhelming me.
>>1098317 oh I was considering making /egg/ but I'm glad I checked FUCK OIL REFINING AND CRACKING
>>1101550 add mindustry to that list
So I was playing Cosmoteer one day, and I started wondering if it counted as a simple engineering game.
(451.04 KB 1920x1080 buildables.jpg)

(800.84 KB 1920x1080 spaghetti.jpg)

>>1116666 I've been messing around with the new buildables, not really doing anything crazy in case something breaks, just some fun things here and there like this useless elevator. Here is the view from the scaffolding at the top - I like the spaghetti look. I just need to figure out what to put in the other half of the desert, since all the resources up there are being used already. Maybe ficsmas?
>>1098400 Haven't played in a long while. Thought trains already came out. The space station stuff looks neat but tacked on. I'm still unsure about trains in the game since it takes place on an island. I haven't used roads yet, but they don't look that useful. I think it'll help if they made trucks worse off-road. Or maybe that'll just ruin everything idk
(625.92 KB 1920x1080 aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.jpg)

been working on this thing, its supposed to take in scrap of different qualities, recycle with quality modules and filter resources by type, with train outputs for each type, plus trash trains to take out excess resources to be voided on especial islands full of recyclers. Few recyclers, but I plan to upgrade them to legendary later and use speed beacons.
>>1122804 Scale is way too low, you're only gonna get a slow trickle of any particular output and the moment you leave it alone, it'll build up too much of one product and jam unless those trains are constantly tapped or go into a larger storage destination..
(15.19 MB 1280x720 2024-07-08 05-27-28.mp4)

>>1112007 but mineycrafta has physics now
>>1124017 That is horrifying. Why would you do this?
>>1124017 This goes against the natural order.
>>1123658 I didn't want to go bigger, because my production of foundations is not optimal, if I go bigger, it will invade the ocean too much and I will need tons of foundations, instead, I was thinking of copy pasting multiple of this bp in other islands later, if needed, all connected to the same rail network. The trash train stops (13 in total) are there to prevent one resource from clogging it, I want to build enough recycler islands later, to make sure some resources made in excess (like cogs and ice) is always constantly removed and voided. I am only worried about holmium output, honestly, I will probably make tons of other stuff while trying to get a drip of legendary holmium plates.
Speaking of Fulgora, how do you even get that place set up? All the trash islands are too small for a train station (at least the ones I've found). I mean they are big enough but the tracks would be covering a good chunk of trash. And my whole setup is garbage that gets overloaded with useless junk pretty fast. I tried tons of recyclers to void it but that doesn't seem to work or go fast enough. Biggest production issue is lack of pink ore. Man, I should've really had this stuff set up better before moving to gleba to make another crappy barely functioning setup.
(954.08 KB 3008x3631 lizard doggo.jpg)

>>1109588 Certified a cute, plush nuclear waste included. >>1120107 Reminds me of those PC builds scattered outside of the case
>>1125278 Remember that most core components for even complex recipes drop straight from scrap and you have unlimited heavy oil on tap. Start with just a small battery of recyclers and scoop up all the pieces you need to start expanding. The small size of the islands means drones are actually a fairly efficient way of moving items around compared to belts, as it's usually a large spread of small amounts of product that would need to be filtered, especially if you are playing with quality. I made a loop that prioritizes unused product over raw scrap back into quality modded recyclers with filtered inserters pulling every item into a chest. That way, if you leave it be too long it doesn't jam - excess product is just refined into higher and higher tiers or utterly destroyed. I forget about fulgora for an hour and come back to stacks of quality materials instead of a jammed factory.
>>1125278 >All the trash islands are too small for a train station (at least the ones I've found). prove it save file
>>1125278 Are you talking about the tiny islands rich with scrap ore? The "vault" islands. I had to use double headed trains with a single cargo wagon, because, yes, they are small. Big miners from vulcanus help, because they cover bigger areas and you save space that would be used for more belts with the small ones. For not being able void stuff fast enough, the solution, unfortunately, is probably adding more recyclers to your void setup, or using faster recyclers (higher quality and/or speed modules).
>>1120107 Let's Game It Out wasn't supposed to be an inspiration, anon
(54.89 KB 636x472 Fulgora.jpg)

>>1125278 Fulgora is Sushi central I've had great success using a fully circular build like pic related Just keep looping it and recycle everything, you'll eventually have every item on the belts Scale up with stacking or more belts
>>1133606 I disagree, I made both a sushi belt factory and one based on filtering with splitters, both in early game during my first visit, both contained completely in a single island and I found that the splitter one was much better, although the sushi belt was certainly more fun and easy to set up. Sushi for that many items is simply less efficient.
>>1098317 >my animu general, /sci/ general and game general all got alts yay
>>1126640 cute, looks soft <3 >>1130912 this was just how it turned out, it wasn't until after aluminum production that i learned how to make manifolds and at that point i just decided to embrace the look for this factory at least
>>1134972 What generals?
>>1137874 /egg/, /sfg/, /yryr/ I'm a rennaisance man
>>1138387 some generals on 8chan are too slow tho, its clear that its just a fraction of their former posters from 4chin, at least the ones I checked
>>1139458 but where did everyone else go??? You can't tell me they just stopped posting altogether.
>>1139507 Some stopped, some went to the sharty, some went elsewhere, others are just doomscrolling youtube shorts or getting banned off reddit or something. I would bet that most people don't really think about alts and bunkers much so when 4ch went kaput they just throw their hands up and wait for it to get fixed. Also since IP count got turned off it was much easier for 1-2 guys to sustain a thread without it being embarrassingly obvious samefagging.

>>1158108 >Now that the dust has settled, how do you like the expansion? Solid 9.8/10 for me (-0.2 points for Space Platforms being tedious to build) I enjoyed my second playthrough even more, did a Fulgora start and went to Nauvis as my last planet I set Nauvis to deathworld with max biters and treated it as an endgame science research hub, since you can only place biolabs there, I made basically everything on other planets and just shipped it to Nauvis Any Planet Start mod is highly recommended, makes you engage much more with the new mechanics

>>1098317 Turing Complete has been a very fun experience
>>1173781 made by different studio, dev hell for years, finally came out to early access with less features than ksp1 and way buggier, game is pretty much unplayable, had tons of promises like interstellar travel, colonies, and multiplayer, ended up getting none of those, updates were rare and a lot of radio silence, studio ended up getting laid off, and now the game is in stasis until it gets removed from steam that's the qrd, want more info, google

>>1145373 I want it now
>>1119036 Close enough I'd say, though I wish there was a circuit system so you could make your own ship AI. It's one of the only things factorio was lacking, you get all these nifty circuit things so you can make the factory react intelligently to shifting circumstances but there's nothing to react to. >>1155039 Nice desu ne

(436.86 KB 1920x1200 1062090_8.jpg)

after playing more I've concluded tunneling really makes this game quite different. It almost feels a bit overpowered but I suppose building down has the same benefits to building up, just maybe needing less supporting structures
>>1158108 its quite terrible, but if i hated vanilla factorio i would probably love the dlc. a fumbled mess of interesting ideas that werent made to work together, separated planets ruin any chance to feel pressure, and 2.0 made nauvis way more tedious so you dont even want to be pressured to get there because its less fun. trying to make combat bots usable is good but other systems in spage ruin any chance of them being worth using. fulgora and gleba have good gimmicks in a vaccuum, but theyll never be as good as pre 2.0 nauvis. id be willing to try to like it for probably hundreds of hours even after settling on not liking it if it wasnt for the insulting pricepoint and shitty vanilla update.
>>1174383 You can start on Fulgora now or is that a mod?
>>1203683 Any Planet Start is one such mod
you can optimize the thread by replacing /res/ in the URL with /last/ but it does break on jumps >>1203683 Dosh talked about it in one of his videos, you need to cheat a little with the new TT unlocks and any deaths
I booted up Last Call BBS again and finally beat the last level of 20th Century Food Court, Sushi Yeah. Feels good. It's the only level where space really felt like a major constraint. I had to iterate on my earlier attempts for something like five hours before I figured out a sensible way of doing it. Now to go back and start optimizing earlier levels.

>>1220972 A fair bit, they update every few months and have been slightly more active lately since it hit the 10th anniversary (fucking hell). Lot's of blocks, revamped campaign, a DLC with an ocean and accompanying blocks, numerous tweaks for things like pistons (you can set them to start extended while you're building and alter their speed/strength), sensors for height/distance/angle etc. Oh yeah, there was even a shift to x64 so the game runs better than it used to. I don't often push the game to the limits though, most of my time I spend making and testing different engines nowadays
>>1224044 >10th anniversary I can't believe it's been so long, I remember the threads when it first came out and everyone went crazy about it for a while, discovered the chaos engine, etc. I'm not sure if the thread was called /egg/ back then, come to think of it, we wouldn't have had /vg/, I don't think
>>1226039 >We wouldn't have had /vg/ Anon, I... /vg/ was 2012 It did take a while for Besiege to move to /vg/ though, since once the craze on /v/ was over it went into the background - it's always been primarily singleplayer after all. >>1238566 I'm 100% going back, I'm hard stuck to my old ways of browsing imageboards in a specific setup and this site just absolutely makes it a headache.
>>1238566 Statistically, most will. This isn't the first time 8chan has been used as a bunker, though there are always strays who decide to stay here. Our userbase probably will more than double regardless. 4chan users also aren't like other imageboard users, when Hispachan went down they all moved here and have stayed here since, it's why there are so many Spanish boards on 8chan. 4anons are much more rigid and will actively seek to return to their own site, they don't have that "agility" to move around. That's probably because they've never had to move home the way other anons have (this site is the third iteration of 8chan, for instance), so they have no framework of leaving somewhere for good.

>>1238566 >they said "soon" God DAMMIT I'm not going back. I don't want it back. I don't want others to go back. I hope it gets hacked again. I hope there's pure chaos from the anons. I hope the site is unusable. To take my mind off the horrible news, "Lab is full of bees" never fails to make me laugh.
>>1239862 For what purpose? This board is slow as fuck and the catalog is huge.
>>1240333 /ffxiv/-fags got spammed in too many threads and their dead threads cluttered the catalog. If I understood correctly this move is aimed at "eternal generals", template threads that exist for maintaining their own existence more than anything. However Mark is being a wishy washy faggot about this and says he can wait for each thread's consent and some can stay if they insist on it.
>>1240116 If only more posters and threads from 4chan migrated here, I would prefer this place. Not having the 900 timer on the first post is already a big win.

>>1240116 now that traffic is happening so fast here I've contemplated rewriting my thread aggregator from original 8chan I intended for it to only be a cli program, and it was lightweight enough that it could run on a netbook, you could easily keep track of when threads had been updated without spamming requests to every individual url, it would refresh the catalog and then compare the number of posts in a thread being watched to info from the catalog before updating the thread, it was a huge pain in the dick because I had to port the code from their ddos protection that generated valid bypass cookies from javascript to python including the AES encryption method, and a way to grab the captcha image to solve for every post rewriting it for this should honestly be a cakewalk in comparison since most of the work is already done
>>1238566 >Will you guys go back? For some of the other boards maybe. /g/ and /n/ weren't total trash.
>>1240116 how did the bees get inside the labs?

Making small engines is often more interesting than making big ones. This needed basically no tuning and as far as I can tell the sensors and gears give it enough momentum to not need a flywheel at all
I will never understand the appeal of besiege, its not realistic at all and at same time everything is ugly as shit. Its supposed to be medieval-like, but then not and you can put together these motors and cars only because of magic pistons and wheels, its like minecraft.
>>1238566 i gotta say i really like the per-thread IDs and sound posts just a shame about the stability
>>1251901 Once 4chan is up, some hero here needs to hack it again.
is this /egg/-worthy? Looks interesting https://store.steampowered.com/app/3401490/Replicube/

what do we think of outworld station, looks a lot like final factory
>>1254539 Looks pretty cool
Is there no way to search multiple terms on the catalog here? On 4chan you could use | but it doesn't seem to work here
>>1255161 I'm actually not sure if the search feature allows regex or not. Assumed it only supports exact match without case sensitivity, never thought to try otherwise.
>>1158108 I hate to admit it, but I got filtered by Gleba (or to be more precise, by pentapods), twice. Or maybe my failure in Gleba is just a symptom. And the real reason I failed is because I kept getting sidetracked by the new 'quality' feature. (also I was playing with x100 research cost. That clearly didn't help.)
>>1253351 Nah. We need 4chan, as a lightning rod. Just let it suck in the bad actors. Everytime a shill/troll/kid/autist post there, he is not posting here.
>>1255287 define filtered
>>1255439 I never reached Aquilo. And my bases were run over several time by stompers.
>>1255452 by the time stompers are a problem you should have minefields and spidertrons
I just turn pollution off
Oop, 4chan is back. I had fun I guess, see you guys around. Maybe I'll return if 4chan stinks too bad.

>>1098400 I started just this weekend, and by god, all my other priorities went out the window I went with that elongate map, so trains definitely are on the menu, one thing I'm wondering tho, seems like mixed cargo is a thing, can you potentially get mixed cargo into trains? also, how do I get gud into cool looking roads?
>>1255287 I never made a single rocket part on Gleba, I imported all of it from Vulcanus and Fulgora where shit is literally free
