Moving 4chan themed generals to /vg/ Mark Board owner 04/23/2025 (Wed) 21:29:39 Id: c75d9d No. 1231604
Hello /v/, Due to the large amount of generals made by people who just copy and paste OPs, we will be requesting that going forward people take these premade threads be taken to >>>/vg/. The rules will be the same as /v/, and will basically be an extension of /v/. That being said threads like the GamerGate thread, Drawthread, PC Hardware & News Thread, and other themed threads will be allowed to stay, this is specifically for threads like "/xivg/ - Final Fantasy General XIV - DawnTrail" where they have a set template and way they do things and really shouldn't be on /v/ since they're not really talking about the game and they're just copying and pasting the OPs from 4/vg/. I will also be working with the global administration and will be asking them to move certain threads on /v/ to /vg/. That being said, if any particular general wants to stay on /v/, I'm perfectly fine with that. In the end >>>/vg/ is meant to be an extension of /v/ rather than a replacement. If you're just talking about games and make something like "Cuhrayzee Thread" and a normal post body then we will keep it on /v/. I look forward to working with all of you and making both /v/ and /vg/ the best it can be. Thank you, Mark
>>1231604 GAMERS WON
Will you be moving existing threads or waiting for bumplimit
>That being said, if any particular general wants to stay on /v/, I'm perfectly fine with that Wow, it's fucking nothing.
>>1231744 We will be moving older threads, but not ALL generals. Personally I'm fond of the GG and BA threads, although I acknowledge some of them like the XIV generals have gotten a bit out of hand. So to make everyone happy, I agreed to working with the current >>>/vg/ BO to satisfy the desires of the community. Basically just make your OPs a bit different and they'll be allowed.
>>1231604 Hah! What a story, Mark
>>1231821 Please don't keep shit like the drawthread because that was a bot infested shithole on 4/v/ ran by a few requestfags tricking artists into drawing their dumb fetishes over and over and siphoned OC out of their actual threads to pretend the thread was more active than it actually was. Nothing good ever comes from generals.
(97.54 KB 751x607 1723771359689.png)

Was kind of expecting this to happen, honestly. Sorry for how "we've" been behaving, I know apparently a lot of your old threads got lost in the wave of general spam..Will threads for specific games still be allowed? >this is specifically for threads like "/xivg/ - Final Fantasy General XIV - DawnTrail" where they have a set template and way they do things and really shouldn't be on /v/ since they're not really talking about the game and they're just copying and pasting the OPs from 4/vg/ So, do you mean the circlejerk threads like /bag/ and /calg/? Would a TES or RTS "general" still be allowed?
>>1231803 kek this
>>1231885 This might shock you, but 8/v/ is not 4chan. Our drawthreads are mostly artists posting their work, requests aren't made that often because they're rarely ever fulfilled. Before the exodus, our current drawthread had a a grand total of seven.
>>1231604 Thank you, this is great
>>1231963 Nah it's still a requestfag shithole spamming their garbage here. Once artfags learned to ignore it they started popping up in random threads with their retarded requests since they weren't getting any bites in their containment thread. Your ilk did serious damage to OC and artfriends on /v/.
To be honest I have no clue why /bag/ was here anyway, all the other gacha generals from 4chan are on /gacha/ and aren't having any problems (outside of their respective schizos finding them) as far as I know
>>1231885 I haven't seen many bot posts at all here in fact, the jeets didn't seem to follow us over.
(485.69 KB 680x683 newfag behaviour.png)

>>1231997 The fuck are you talking about, Anon? >your ilk I'm FROM here
>>1232063 Your stupid thread has the same stupid general template from 4chan that existed for years, no point in pretending like you're some independent actor especially since the thread is filled with exactly the same kind of requestfaggotry and begging schizos that ruined OC on /v/ by driving artists away with your rancid autism.
Shut the fuck up cake kike.
(165.60 KB 480x480 COME INTO MY HOUSE.mp4)

>>1232063 You say that yet you don't have the webm
>>1232106 Also since those threads were just a containment of request bots on 4chan people started making stealth drawthreads instead where the actual artists would post, but that was already degenerating into typical generalposting too. If you do want to have some positive change then at least drive away all the requestfags and stop pretending like they're related to drawing, you beggars simply aren't artists and should stop pretending like you are allowed to be in the same threads.
Please actually move /xivg/ to /vg/ and keep their shit contained there. As much I'm a regular (yet hated) within the community from 4chan, there's no reason for them to spam /v/ with 10 different general threads, especially when half of it is off-topic discussions about gooning and borderline sketchy shit.
>>1231604 POST HIS ASSHOLE
(32.50 KB 680x683 newfag.png)

>>1232182 I do not, but he did inspire me to make this.
So how's the overlap in moderation since you talk about 'working together' because /vg/'s last post in the meta board was yesterday and per-post captcha is still on.
(19.58 KB 200x271 TeeTee.jpg)

>>1231892 I'm the board owner for /vg/. The theory as I understand it is any general directly related to a video game is welcome on /vg/ while the more general ones might stay here. Examples >TF2 General /vg/ >RTS General /vg/ >Grafix card prices, Gamergate, Video game waifu general, drawthreads, etc. /v/ The only noticeable change will be less revolving general threads on /v/. The jannies for both boards communicate and allow meta threads, so this shouldn't be a hard transition. >>1232236 Per post captcha is on because we had a severe autist spamming thousands of replies.

I guess enough people complained in the meta thread & the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Questions: Will rule 5 be rewritten yet again? Is AI General also exempt since it existed here years before? If Blue Archive & Final Fantasy XIV generals go to /vg/ will bump limit be lowered back down since it was raised to accommodate them?
If you're confused, I'm basically talking about threads like the XIV threads and these >>1205209 >>1185475 >>1184364 >>1178262 >>1158401 >>1130100 >>1111855 >>1108087 >>1106075 >>1105548 >>1102378 >>1098758 >>1098569 >>1098317 >>1097416 >>1095167 >>1093504 >>1093461 >>1092783 >>1091387 >>1092637 If you'd like to stay with us then It's fine, all I ask is that the OPs be a little different and don't have any specific mention of a "General".

I don’t even why /xivg/ exists here or /vg/, other than the mods just being cool with them. They have their own board on the website.

>>1231604 >moving all generals to /vg/ <except the ones i like ,they can stay That's what you did the last time too Mark and what happened was a healthy community reduced to what amounted a discord circlejerk where everyobdy might as well had names because you could tell one another apart each time you posted So the question that remains now is: who the fuck are you gonna blame your own failings this time on this time around when things inevitably go tits up now that there is no jim,no ron no hotwheelz,no julay ,no goons and no boogeymen left to blame?
>>1232265 Mark you literally merged the existing TF2 thread into the general
>>1232262 Generals that existed before the downtime of 4chan will allowed to be here. I'm only really doing this because the catalog is in a pretty bad state and tons of anons have been complaining about it. Even new ones may stay as long as they don't get overly obnoxious.
Can Acid remove Mark as board owner so the worthless cake nigger fucks off? >>1232321 STOP SPEAKING OUT OF TURN YOU OBESE PIECE OF SHIT FAGGOT

I get this board being too fast for regulars but most of the generals are honest to god game discussion, but I guess they discuss the game too often and it pushes shit out of the catalog.
if generals are gonna be moved to /vg/ is /vg/ gonna be pinned to the top bar similar to the failed /vb/?
Is anyone else getting stuck on "Uploading 100%" and then getting a "Connection Failed" message when they try to upload images?
>>1232288 Also fun fact, drawthreads are some gay mod's little pet project on 4chan and criticizing them will get you banned and your post deleted even if the post wasn't in the drawthread itself, they've been utter botted garbage for like a decade. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't know how much of a shithole it was but bringing over that exact culture isn't going to help, and no your thread isn't older than that shit.
>>1232336 >which threads are pre-4chan? Granblue Fantasy, Blue Archive, Grand Strategy, handhelds, and I believe Doom and TES may also stay
>>1232345 /bag/ or /xivg/ probably won't care where they go, I don't see them petitioning to stay here.
>>1232307 >They have their own board on the website. Most likely this board was made by one of the worst schizos from /xivg/ (or worse, the 4/v/ thread with special 4janny treatment only for one particular snowflake), and it has thread IDs disabled. No one has ever wanted to use it exactly for these reasons.
>>1232251 >>RTS General >/vg/ Hmm, interesting. Is having a thread for a specific genre not general enough? Or is this more to avoid stuff like /fgg/ and the like?
>>1232307 It's troon controlled apparently

>>1232255 >>1232262 Is Lynxchan-Extended causing this double-posting (since it has an option to save contents of Quick Reply) or is it just the site being shit currently? When attempting to post it hangs on 100% constantly, then tries to restart from 0%. >>1232336 The latest AI General has links to previous AI General threads that were moved to /ais/ dating as far back as 2022, but there were two more threads even before that. >>1232375 YES I'm getting that a lot & it seemed to be causing double posts for me.
>>1232417 I agree
>>1232417 Touhou discussion was made unusable by shitty ritual posters and they shouldn't have been allowed to fester, I don't care enough about BA to judge but the very nature of generalfaggotry brings down whatever it's related to.
>>1232410 I will argue that you let general TF2 threads stay BUT only if the OP isn't just a copypasted /tf2g/ OP and instead focuses more on the latest update or happening or drama with the game. /tf2g/ can still exist on /vg/ but more discussion should occur in the /v/ variant of the TF2 thread
>>1232410 So can you not talk about these games here anymore or what's the deal of how this is gonna work?
>>1232445 Does that not fall under general avatarfagging? That is bannable. But in any case, I don't think anyone is ritualposting much in the BA threads or even avatarfagging for that matter.

>>1232507 Not necessarily avatarfagging but the 2hu threads on /v/ were filled with usual suspects that know each other and do typical generalfag things like vagueposting, not talking about the subject matter and having their own recurrent drama. Ah so if they wanna keep shitting up the place that's fine if they change the OP a bit from time to time and pretend there's a "topic" they're discussing? Cool. Can't wait for 4ch to be up so I can go back to a /v/ that's actually usable. I love being forced to use the catalog, because if I hide all the threads they still show up on page 1 and within 2 scrolls I'm already at the bottom of the page. Really cool design! But hey at least the trannies are circlejerking each other and erping in their containment threads in plain sight of everyone, but the topic totally changed they're erping in a different place now!!

>>1232710 >Depends. If I get several reports that they're just erping and not discussing video games then we might take action. >>1232727 We should bring back /baph/ and show these losers what real gore looks like.
>>1232710 OK then fix the navigation issues in your HTML? You do realize that when someone uses the paged view instead of the catalog, every hidden thread still takes up a thread "slot", right? So if page 1 has a limit of 12 threads, if 8 of them are hidden then literally within 2 scrolls you hit the bottom of the page. It's fucking awful viewing experience. Either make the thread hiding actually do something, or actually get them gone.
>>1232761 Feel free to make an actual thread with an actual topic actually talking about the game, if it happens to be flooded with general troons then that's not a point in favor of tolerating generals.

>>1232922 I will take your words, but I will be watching to see if it will actually be in effect.
>>1232924 correct, I don't mind if you have a body of content and THEN a bunch of resources copied from a template. Although you should at least put a bit of effort in.
So it seems like 8/v/ is adopting the same "no generals" rule that 4/vmg/ had, which imo is pretty stupid. Basically, /vmg/ was /gacha/, but as you can see from the /gacha/ activity here, it's all general threads... except /vmg/ had a no general rule. The end result was that everyone used /v/ and /vg/ to post about gacha, and /vmg/ was basically a ghost town that only really existed for gachas that weren't popular enough to sustain a /vg/ or /v/ thread. And /vmg/ generals would still get deleted if they looked anything like a general, so people would make topical patch-related posts as the OP, and then put all the "general" link infos in the 2nd post. Completely retarded and arbitrary ruling that I believe was eventually overturned like 5+ years after /vmg/ was created, but the damage had already been done and /vg/ was essentially a gacha general board and /vmg/ served practically no purpose
Just move the generals to /vg/ The issue with 4chan's /vg/ is that it was literally going to hell a.k.a. no moderation or IDs or anything and if your thread moved there you knew the discussion would degenerate into absolute garbage Not an issue here (so far)
>>1232710 Just a heads up, there was a situation with non-general /xiv/ threads in the halfchan /v/ board. People who got shunned from the /xivg/ threads for being schizos and other shit would just flock to /v/ and make pseudo-generals that would always be on the catalog. There were legitimate people as well for sporadic discussion but there's a precedent for bad conduct in this regard.
>>1232920 They're clones of janny-approved 4/v/ generals too so that should have been a double exorcism, I don't see how generals that were already here are any less cancerous.
>>1232842 Never mind, I'm actually retarded, that filters URLs as well. /(^|[^a-zA-Z0-9/])\/[a-zA-Z]{3,6}\//g Now THIS is pretty damned solid. No URLs sneaking into this one.
>>1232647 I honestly can't tell the difference between regular thread and general at a glance, at least right here and now What's the difference between "Fire Emblem Thread" and "Fire Emblem General"? What's the difference between regular talk and extended talk of a topic? It all comes down on how many schizos are in the thread, 4chan's /vg/ eventually became a rat-race to not get deleted for inactivity which naturally breed schizos out of necessity until they built a critical mass that was unbearable
>>1233113 >People who got shunned from the /xivg/ threads for being schizos and other shit would just flock to /v/ and make pseudo-generals that would always be on the catalog. There were legitimate people as well for sporadic discussion but there's a precedent for bad conduct in this regard. Misinformation fag, it was the opposite. People made threads on /v/ to not have to post on /vg/ amidst actual unironic erotic roleplay between 30 year olds (and therefore getting their gameplay posts ignored).
>>1232408 Fighting games are video games, I see no reason to forbid them from having a general on /vg/. I could only see a problem arising if: >specific games in a larger general began having flame wars with each other. (example: Street Fighter fans and Mortal Kombat fans shit up the Fighting Game general constantly.) >thread was more about ecelebs, pro players or tournaments than video games But at that point, those posters might start a new separate general anyway. If a thread's posters are largely happy with the state of the thread, why disrupt that? Threads naturally form their own culture.
>>1233113 >>1233172 My perception of the /v/ XIV threads is that you got your thread deleted and a ban if you made an XIV thread on /v/... unless it was a shitpost made by Barry, or that one Lala avatarfag, and the /v/ threads were usually more schizophrenic than the /xivg/ threads somehow, where people were crying about "Homestuck" and random other bogeymen whose names I don't even recognize.
>>1233166 When there's nothing to talk about a thread ceases to exist, except with the general culture it continues to exist through off-topic talk and the attention whoring and schizoposting that it brings, so the only practical difference is that generals are specifically not about their subject matters.
This is a great change and I hope a good number of threads relocate. The entire board was turning into /vg/. I know /vb/ exists, but there's not much discussion to be had there.
>>1233172 There were normal people as well but there absolutely was a big amount of avatarfags who would only shit up and ERP the /v/ threads because they didnt like the other people or whatever.
>>1233206 Correct. People started making deliberately negative OPs because they'd get deleted on sight otherwise.
>>1233235 There's no coming back once you let a specific game have a general for too long, the general posters will simply spill over and shit up whatever non-general thread they find too and this should simply never be tolerated at any point.
>Ya'll Banned for the wrong reasons.
>>1232647 Let's look at this from the point of view of cuckchan, since that seems to be what you're more familiar with. Was there always a Helldivers 2 general up in /vg/, with people screaming "lobby doko" to each other for hours on end, posting low effort memes, discussing some updates here and there with the people dedicated enough to find the /vg/ thread and talk there? Yes. Has that existence ever stopped someone from coming by on 4/v/ and creating a thread about helldivers to talk about something recent that happened in the game? A new patch? Maybe just a shitty shitpost? No, not at all, it's still a thread about video-games, but it's not this infinite spam of infinite discussions only with those that play the game and are looking for lobbies and shit. This is the idea, I think. And this was using the Helldivers 2 general as an example, not the even shittier generals with avatarfags and ERP drama like FFXIV.

>>1233135 The native filters don't seem to work with that although they support Regex, but it works with the Fullchan-X filters. Nice script. >>1232842 Can we get a link on catalog threads that will go to the thread HOWEVER replace /res/ in the url with /last/ so it will only load the last 50 posts of the thread? I think using the reply count text for the link would be the least obtrusive since that text is already present. As it is now the [Last] link can only be seen outside of the catalog. I think it can be useful on large threads when the site is going slow to use the [Last] 50 posts link, but since it's not on the catalog I don't use it.
>>1232647 >>1232786 >>1232846 At this point I'm curious of what you consider non-generals. >and I say this as a long time /trannyrunner/ poster That explains it I guess, you have literal PTSD and are a closeted tranny.
>>1233109 >The issue with 4chan's /vg/ is that it was literally going to hell a.k.a. no moderation or IDs or anything. Not exactly. I've been banned over sixty times from /vg/ and most of them were for off-topic when I was on-topic. The moderation on /vg/ is selective and only localized on certain boards or people. It's why the boards are absolute dogshit and filled with gooning material.
>>1231604 Oh hai Mark!

>>1233415 Well yes, you're describing the difference between (4chan) /v/ and /vg/, the former being for general video game discussion and the latter being for more structured generals. This seemed to be more or less the opposite on 8chan so obviously people would start making generals on /v/ and attempt to have more general video game threads on /vb/ and from the newfag sticky: >IF you want something more akin to 4/v/, I recommend >>>/vb/ which is basically /b/ but with video games >ALSO WHEN MAKING A NEW THREAD MAKE IT AROUND 150 CHARACTERS OR MORE WHEN MAKING THREADS OR TAKE CRAP THREADS TO >>>/vb/ i'm not trying to stir shit at all but these two points make it seem like it's more or less intended to have generals and not your average (4chan) /v/ thread even if its not a shitpost/goonbait/ragebait thread

From what I've read, the shittery is in /xivg/, no? Admittedly, I don't have reason to go to a thread I don't play the game of. It was only able to comeback in name when the jannies lifted the ban on of generals on /vst/ - vidya/strategy last year, because that board was so slow that a thread could stay on the catalog for up to 9 days without a bump before getting 404 If by chance it starts getting constantly more than 20 posts a day then you can feel free to move it to /vg/ or if someone makes a 8/vst/ that isnt dead then it would be cool to move /dfg/ there too. >>1232321 Can /gbvsg/ still post about our tournaments on /v/
"Generals" are just threads that are popular enough to sustain regular discussion. Sometimes they're about one game, sometimes they cover a broader range of related topics. Not only is this sort of thread encouraged on 8/v/ it's even enforced by merging threads. And the 4chan themed generals are no different aside from being populated by refugees. In theory I could see the utility of separating out the regular threads so you have a video game board with a more varied range of topics. But it seems like that's not what you're doing, and are instead fixated on the world "general" because it's become a sort of boogeyman for threads people dislike. The way you explain the issue makes me think you want something like 4/v/, where the popular topics/games/series still get constant threads but the word "general" does not appear in the OP. Instead everyone plays a sort of shell game in which the OP of each thread is about a different thing within the game and other fans of the game recognize the thread and expand it to cover the entire series. All this does is make the stealth generals more insular because the threads are only recognized by people who are already familiar and the OP does not contain useful information for newfags. I've also seen some complaints from 8/v/ oldfags who claim to hate generals despite 8/v/ being full of generals, what these people actually want is for you to temporarily disable thread creation, direct all refugees to a new board, move all recently made threads. Anyway it seems like my favorite general is getting banished. As a refugee I can't argue if you don't want to deal with the shitposters, or even if you simply don't like the series, so I'm only complaining about your reasoning.

I like xiv, and I'd like to talk about it, but I don't want to have to share a general full of mentally ill aspiring thread celebrities who don't have any desire to talk about the game, which is what /xivg/ was composed of. Obviously game discussion would need to be enforced on /v/ with things like thirst posting, avatarfagging, schizo posting, thread celeb attention whoring, etc being grounds for post deletion, but I would be appreciative if there was still a place where sincere discussion was possible. Anyone who knows about 4/xivg/ knows game discussion was functionally impossible there due to flooding, samefagging, and an iron grip over moderation but if they all end up going to their general on /vg/ to do what they like then that might actually become possible again for the rest of us.

>>1235587 It's better after some nice performace upgrades and some multithreading thanks to the new coder working with Toady, but FPS death will aways be a inevitability due to the lack of constraints in the game design. >>1235670 Can you describe what you mean by “generals”.
>>1235508 I think the "simplest" solution to this problem is mandating tags for generals and tangential topics. >>1236436 my problem with generals is that they can pretty easily flood a board if left unchecked, especially if that board's natural populace isnt fast enough to outpace the general makers. you get shit like /xivg/ where they had more than five bumplocked threads at once, or entire pages that are almost completely filled with generals. i remember on 4/vg/ the genshin general could get up to fucking seven bumplocked threads after an update and that was one of the fastest boards on the site. imagine if THAT moved here. there would entire pages of dead genshin threads. a general dominated board doesnt allow games that cant maintain fast paced discussion (which was also the point of the /v/ splits, to let niche games have proper threads) or topics about vidya, like VR. (no, a vr general is not a solution) generals also make it difficult to discuss a specific topic about a game too, or discussing specific flaws about a game. since in a general thread you have the same old same old poster base that has their own defined opinions and talking points. introducing a new talking point is unlikely to garner any real discussion, and introducing an opposing talking point is likely to pit the thread against you. >>1236498 what point are you trying to make with this image? you posted it in the meta thread yesterday too in response to lolis.
>>1236791 I think it depends a lot. Some old CRPGs would just never get talked about if /crpg/ didn't exist on 4chan for example, exactly because they were niche, /crpg/ was a place where people played those games, on /v/ you might not even get a reply. But that's 4chan, not here, so eh whatever. The real problem are schizos, one made /crpg/ really bad until he ragequit, but afterwards you could discuss pretty much whatever, some people even liveblogged themselves playing these old ass games nobody's heard about. I think generals can be good a lot of the time, but again it depends.
>in response to lolis lmao you're so lucky this site doesn't have a real archive, you're a disingenuous faggot and you're just using "lolis" as a way to mask yourself as a "based 8chan user". Everything about your posts scream shill, like you want people to talk about lolis because it "offends normalfags" even though that isn't really the concern of shills.
>>1236856 Anon I love you and all but you're starting to remind me of all the "GASP!... is this.. videogames!? BUY AN AD!" posters on 4/v/, not eeeverything is a shill
>>1236899 >missing the point I spent time arguing that generals should be allowed on /v/ because they suppress marketers, generals are video games, what's the problem? >>1236856 i left the tab open, looks like it was in response to them to me. cope more and have another loli. >y-you want people to talk about lolis because that lets you shill for some reason! no, to simply post them because it makes people like (you) have meltdowns and eventually leave the rest of us alone.

It stops bad people from robbing >Just put loli wallpapers up, that'll stop them >No it won't, they don't care about that. >You're just a cuck who hates loli porn, I want the all doors to be unlocked and all borders to be opened, that's the based chud way! not to mention loli PORN is against the rules on 8/v/ so it's obvious he's just saying this shit so he can sound "based" so people don't acknowledge the intent behind his posts.
>>1236029 I'm one of said rapefugees, and I'm only posting this so you aren't misconstrued by a schizo at some point in the future. BUT! The thread we moved into once halfchan went kaput was called /gbfg/, it just didn't have the actual 'general' part in the title.
I think the new/outsider generals flooding the board are a bit gay, but moving all of them is a bit much isn't it?
>>1237107 >just put locks on your doors >ok, what kind of lock? >a karma lock that gives more popular people more precedence than you in your own home! >fuck off >REEE YOU JUST WANT PEOPLE TO ROB YOUR HOUSE!!! anyways im not entertaining you unless you can explain the exact method and purpose of the "locks". the point of lolis was already explained to you in the meta thread yesterday anyways. if you cant understand why a karma system doesnt work on any kind of chan you dont belong on the chans, simple as.
>a karma lock that gives more popular people more precedence than you in your own home! lol now he's just saying random shit, a lock that lets MORE people in your home, somehow. Okay so if your based loli site had a karma lock wouldn't that mean more pedos would get in? Wouldn't that be a good thing? You keep pulling this card where I mentioned something a day ago, as a mere a suggestion and you're attempting get as much mileage out of it even though I said it was a suggestion based off what I read on /t/, that's it. It's obvious that not only do you hate security, you have a problem with natural suppression methods (generals) keeping shills off the site. The only reason why you keep saying karma is so I can argue over whether or not something is redddit, not falling for it.
>>1237206 no further comment.
whats the purpose of /vgg/ then?
You know how fucked up it is when gachafags are the fastest board in this site (and still growing) while /v/ itself has been torn between appeasing oldfags and refugees.
>>1237229 Okay and? My point still stands. If your based loli website had some kind TERRIFYING NEO-NAZI SOCIAL CREDIT SYSTEM wouldn't that mean the based pedochuds would keep gross non-pedos like me out? You'd just set up your system for your community, problem solved. Do you want to be raped to death by non-pedos? wtf? freak! Why do you have a problem with security? You're against generals on /v/ which serves as an effective natural deterrent against shills, why?

I'd rather have that than 20 advertisement >>1237354 okay, how exactly are you going to keep me out if I use bots and bring over other normalfags exactly? Wasn't there some post in the meta thread about a rep system some time ago? I'm noooticing.
>>1237369 Yeah from this 1432d8 retard
This crap just makes me frustrated at this point. 4chan had this problem worse but this place gets it too? I don't care what goes on in a genera. The few generals I go to are just niche games that don't get talked about a lot. Why isn't this just a stupid simple solution? /v/ is for actual thread based vidya discussion, that is the thread is centered around the specific topic set by the OP. It may or may not evolve. /vg/ is for generals for GENERAL discussion about a overarching topic such as a game or niche genre of games. Discussion is never related to the actual contents of the OP. /gacha/ is for gacha generals and normal threads (rare). It's there just because of the large number of gachas and the fact they are different enough when compared to normal video games /ai/ for all the fifty million ai dump threads that I still do not get the purpose of. What's wrong with this approach? Why can't we do that? Why didn't 4chan do this? Again this isn't about "containment" because you hate something, it's about segregation of topics for ease of browsing. When I go to the couple generals on /vg/, I don't browse around the board, I head straight there. If I'm on /v/, I'm there to browse, not look at generals.
Generals were never a problem, /meg/, /lolg/, /sc2g/, /ksg/ were. /vg/ should have never been made.
>>1237416 Why does it matter what kind of drama and weirdness goes on in a general itself? Honest question. I feel like it'll only matter if you actually cared about the game (rip ksp). But if you don't, then why does it make a difference? Why should we police other general threads that we don't participate in?

>>1232410 Egg wants to stay. It's not really a general in the traditional sense. The heavy shitposting on 4/v/ made it impossible to discuss the intricacies of engineering-like games and the relatively small userbases for each individual game made it impossible to keep a thread up on 4/vg/, so we coalesced into egg. >>1235670 Not really? At least not the circlejerk kind that existed on 4/vg/. There were threads that kind of acted like generals but weren't exactly generals, like Retro FPS and the UMPC threads. I can think of only a few actual generals; Minecraft (which is relatively recent for the board), AI general, AGDG, Rimworld, Blue Archive, Elona, and I think that's it? I might be forgetting a few but I think there were less than ten. The problem is 8/v/ is not 4/v/, it's much slower and has a radically different culture. Because it's so slow there's a very blurry line between a normal thread and a general. We had a TES thread that lasted two years, a Blue Archieve thread that lasted almost five. Neither were made as generals. Mark probably should have waited to see how many refugees would stay here instead of caving into the demands of newfags who might not even be around next week.
I forgot, but sometimes people would title their threads "[whatever] General" or "General [whatever] thread" even if it wasn't an established general. That would sometimes be used to denote a thread was literally for general discussion on a game or topic rather than the /vg/ style of general, as seen with the Kirby thread >>1085662 Again, issues with a different culture.

>>1235072 >Community driven make a poll then? >>1235130 >bloodthirsty spergs destoyed by constant revolt
The issue with 4chan style generals from 4/vg/ is that the majority of them are just chatrooms. Generals running for thousands of threads and multiple years long depleted any quality discussion about their games. It's a glorified circlejerk between the same couple of dozen posters who know each other, sometimes by name through a discord, or by posting style. This type of generals should be banished because they clog up the catalog.

This is so fucking stupid >"We should make this place more like 4chan!" >"Think of the hecking refugees!!!" People talking about the game The only real problem with generals right now is that they might end up clogging the catalog, which is fair i guess I don't know why there's still talks about the IDs even, i saw the Dragon Ball general, the most schizophrenic thread /a/ has to offer, stop, panic and slow down to a fourth of its regular speed the moment ID's dropped and it's been like that since then, IDs fucking work, how is this even a question still?

So are XIV generals not allowed on this board anymore, or are the threads that hit post capacity just being moved to /vg/? Genuinely confused, because there has been a new active thread created here while the sticky was up and previous threads were moved.

>>1239986 I was wanting to see what would happen when general threads were actually allowed to live and die on their own myself when posting with the rest of the board. My assumption was that since they don't have to compete each thread with bots, samefags and mod-enabled schizo-spergs discussions would reach their conclusion naturally. >Mark probably should have waited to see how many refugees would stay here instead of caving into the demands of newfags who might not even be around next week. Problem is that for most of the fags complaining in the meta threads it's already too late to do something. Though personally I think a week was reasonable enough, though not an ideal amount of time, to get a feel of the new userbase and how they'd acclimate to the new board and culture as a grace period. Really even if only 10-20% of the fags stayed behind it would be fine if not ideal. Less staff is needed overall, original users(if most are even around at this point) wouldn't be so outnumbered and the board culture could be enforced more effectively without moderation intervention.Really if the faggots that go back are willing to put up with everything the moderation put them through do you really want to keep them around?

IT WILL HAPPEN HERE >niche games cannot gain any kind of foothold for occasional threads since they are buried behind 95% of the board being generals (and nobody will wade through that (dont lie we both know you wont)). games you would've learned about and loved you will no longer learn about and no longer love. >things like jiggie, friday night, and party van threads also fucked since potential new users to those threads are snipped. i can understand why 8/v/ users dont get it since they didnt see 4/v/ before 4/vg/ popped up. but trust me, there was a reason. and it is better to cut out the rot before it becomes an actual problem. plenty of game discussion still happened on 4/v/, the problem was that the tranjans refused to do their job and actually stamp out problems as they sprouted rather than let them grow into unmovable monuments to their laziness. but yes i do think that mark should've waited until 4chan came back up to see how many stayed before making such a change. good chance the problem groups just go back to /vg/

Think of it like this: If you are fishing for rare drops in a game you will logically try to drop as much items as possible. This will also significantly increase shit item drops but so what? That alone proves altchans are forever meme when all that matters is popularity and mods doing their job just enough to make site usable. If you are fishing for good times you have to accept bad times too. If altchans have 50 okay, 1 shit, 1 good posters; 4chan has 200 okay, 100 shit, 10 good posters and that alone is improvement. 10 times better as you can see. I hope you can see where I am going with this post.
So, if I'm reading this thread right, there are two groups of people here in general terms: 4/v/ anons who wants to send all or some the generals to /vg/ because they clutter the board, and breed autism, and because thats how it was on 4chan 8/v/ anons who want shit to stay as it was and allow generals, or at least most of the generals to stay (the shit/ultra fast/autistic ones have to go), because that is how it was before we 4chan rapefugees tried to enforce their sharia law
>>1242681 Yeah, so just do that. This is a half-assed measure anyway, and I said as much in the meta thread. I expected that if this no general rule came about, people would still just make generals, but just keep "general" out of it. And then you'd have to start picking and choosing which "non-generals" you kick out of /v/, which brings us right back around to Abib's 4/v/ faggotry that made everyone hate 4/v/ to begin with. In this case, this measure is even worse because it's not even concrete. ("The generals I like can stay!")
>>1242702 *we 4chan tried to enforce our sharia law
>>1242702 Sharty and 4cucks complained about violating the sanctity of THEIR V and said generals have to go, bro ALL of them! (your native ones too ofc)
>>1242440 This was posted in /vb/. The site was viewable for a moment and this anon screencapped the /v/ board.
rapefugees aren't leaving anytime soon
>>1242702 >4chan moderation let "the generals" they want in /v/ >8chan moderation let THE GENERALS they want in /v/ heh
>>1242808 >read-only HAAAAAAAAA
once 4chan is back i'll be staying here, this place is too good in comparison
>>1242836 I won't because the elin and crpg threads get 2 replies per day
>>1242852 And those two replies will be worth more than what you'll find on 4cuck
>>1242875 Not at all, niche topics are almost all good threadwise. Maybe even objectively superior to this site since those threads aren't dead too. Maybe.
>>1242875 Pure delusion
(104.83 KB 1579x1581 bk.png)

>>1242836 Same. I’ll probably end up crossposting. An open-source, decentralized, user-curated alternative 4chinz seems too good to give up desu. This place reminds me of what 4chinz used to be before pisscord and spambots ruined it.
why are 4cuck janniggers here shilling their dogshit dead site for nuredditors, jeets and corporations
>>1242926 I never been so free!
>>1242932 Because when I post an opinion on the game I'm playing I get a reply in less than 4-5 business days
(63.08 KB 640x480 1489638115968.jpg)

>>1242696 If you can deal with all the noise and maybe 10 to 20 good relevant post per thread on 4chan, go for it anon But im done with mentally filtering meme replies, bait, pepes and soyjacks, i didn't knew how much i was done with 4chan until it went down, there's nothing for me to go back for
>>1242932 Hell, here. ENA threads were full of OC, theories about the meaning of things, questions and answers, sharing findings, posting cool fanart and more, the ENA thread here has 200 posts since the game launched I'm sure they're all very nice people too but my point still stands
>>1242962 and what caliber of reply is that
>>1242910 most likely he is samefagging in his thread so he feels important and his comments are the best.
>>1242852 >niche topics are almost all good threadwise The more niche you go on 4cuck, the higher chance you have of running into a schizo
>same people spamming and begging for xivg to be kicked out are mad that nobody is making xiv threads do it yourself
>>1242852 But Elin threads got two replies per day on 4/jp/ and deletion on sight on 4/v/ because jannies are fags.
>>1243051 >The more niche you go on 4cuck, the higher chance you have of running into a schizo Factually untrue.
>>1242991 Yeah something like that except 4chan has thousands of gems while altchans has 0. Cuz they were literally dead until 4chan hack and vg, vt, gacha fags required a temporary base to settle in while waiting for real chan to come back

>>1243059 They were faster than threads here sometimes, somehow. Again the threads here are perfectly good, don't get me wrong, just pointing out the speed difference.

>>1243110 Looks good to me, moreso when the alternative is nothing.
>>1243064 While there are a higher number of schizos on faster communities, there are are also far more tourists, bots, and turd worlders to drown them out. Without them, interacting with the local schizos is unavoidable.
>>1243152 Again my beautiful culturally enriched black nigga brotha from anotha motha (imageboard), not really. There's schizos sure but they're here and there, and usually more attracted to (popular thing). Ena threads had a guy who kept talking about trannies and trying to bait people (he did this with almost every indie game btw), but that's one (1) guy among fast high quality discussion. I'd rather ignore 1 nigger than have 'discussion' by pigeon mail. You're overblowing things, 4tran's main problem was the actively malicious moderation (the things you said were very present on /v/ though but not eeeevery thread)

>>1243110 SAYS YOU, A PHILLISTINE WITH NO APPRECIATION OF THE FINER THINGS LIFE HAS TO OFFER https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyds_Bank_coprolite NEWS FLASH: SPARKLY STONES STAINED WITH THE BLOOD OF INNOCENTS AND SLAVERY ARE GNARGNAR-BOBO, COPROLITES ARE IN FASHION.
>sharty speak is back on Glad you underragefags don't even try to hide it
This is the fastest non-general thread on the board by the way
>>1243203 makes sense, its very gamergate-core Nexus is in the wrong
>>1232265 move and ban generals here op, threads will naturally come and go this way. the generalboard on 4c was there for a reason
>>1231604 Holy fuck, thank you. The board is useable again.
>>1243485 >>some fetish game Belittling a game you know nothing about doesn't improve your "argument"
>>1243240 Yeah they are in the wrong. Doesn't mean it should be the fastest thread of people circlejerking over how dumb nexus is (we already know they suck). Not to mention that whole body type thing is only in the game for less than minute. I spent more time making this post than I did being exposed to that gender nonsense in the game.
>>1243203 >>1243649 >biggest hub for mods makes an arbitrary, politically charged, decision that affects millions of users >lots of people are interested in talking about it Woah, that's crazy, who could've seen this coming?
Is there a reason why /bag/ and other gachas are getting preferential treatment or is it just to prevent /gacha/ from being the top board?
>>1231604 >>1231604 This is great news!
>>1243649 you can't be this daft, or are pretending to be on purpose. once there is a compromise, there is the potential for the entire product to be compromised in ways undiscovered. and a major modding hub blocking changes to restore even the unoffensive originality of a game is pretty major news that idiocy has fully taken over.
>>1232230 hahahaha
You guys have a weird philosophy where there are hard (though often invisible) rules about certain things, yet you still evaluate and action things on an arbitrary case-by-case basis. it's the worst of both worlds. nobody is going to follow a flowchart to figure out which of the many sub boards is correct to use, they're going to use the one that makes sense. its your job to make it make sense.
>>1238886 awesome!
>>1232445 The local Touhou thread seems cool, they have gameplay discussion and OC
>>1244996 The strat for some people right now is to literally lie when complaining. In the meta thread some dude was whining about the 'general cancer' or whatever and he made some claims that I countered with thread screenshots and he stopped replying.
>>1245157 >umm okay... w-we get 1 post per 5 days in most of the catalog b-but th-they're good posts!! y-your game is LE BAD anyway! Ebin
>>1243203 We haven't had a thread generally for modding or shit talking Nexus in a while, so as long as it generates enough discussion it shouldn't be too bad. Though OP worded it like a clickbaiting faggot and in any sane board it would trashed before it got to that point.
>>1245194 The discussion in it is about trannies and how games are pozzed, maybe that's just 8chan culture doe
Hi /v/BO Are you interested in being frens with >>>/mon/ board?
>>1245436 You are seething and dismissive and that's that.
>>1245485 You can leave any time.

>>1246434 You will leave as well after 4chan comes back and 8moe post rate tanks
>>1246847 I always laugh at that because one argument a 3rd worlder would give to me was that Hoyoverse is very popular because it has so many posts on /vg/ and I joked that they were too poor to afford a phone to play the game. Little do they understand Quality > Quantity.
do not get it twisted
>>1231821 lmao of course it would be a gachanigger
>>1242808 >read only version where users can't interact with and exploit the site Kek get fucked cvckchan
>>1242932 Because if 4chan died they would be out of a job and start earning nothi- wait

A blue archive character is the mascot of /gacha/ but the blue archive general in /v/ is way faster than /gacha/'s holdout
well, the /xiv/ threads on /vg/ are reaching 1000 posts in just a few minutes now.
(21.15 KB 150x200 1376905257627.jpg)

>>1253437 >1000 posts in just a few minutes now. I'm starting to think the real problem is FFXIV in particular and not anything else around it
>>1253565 we have 1 obsessed schizo who knows how to program, yes. next month it might be /wowg/
>>1249718 >>1253577 Why is he spamming?
>>1253642 someone probably didnt want to erp with him
>>1253642 Trying to determine the reason an unmedicated schizo is doing something isn't really possible.
>>1253437 >>1253565 wait, is it the spammer again?
>>1253702 Just take a look at their threads. It's complete nonsense.
>>1253702 probably, yes. the pattern is the same as previous spammings. using old archived posts, replying to random posts.
Holy shit no more nintendie spamming the catalogue again
>>1253707 >>1253710 >bunch of (1) IDs recycling old posts again Yep, schizo activated his botnet again. I wasn't aware because I refuse to go to /vg/ so I'm sitting in the slow, comfy /v/ xiv thread instead.
>>1242355 You don't get it, we need random Nintendo npc filler threads
>>1253719 I'm pretty sure that bot got passed around on discord at some point, I remember a completely unrelated schizo in a completely unrelated general also using it to spam the same way.
>>1253730 Imagine if these people just... you know... got a life? Friends? Family? A job? Ha ha.
>>1253730 >1 post by this ID >completely random schizobabble about discord he cant back up
>>1253745 to further elaborate on this post, i watched the spammer develop his bot from posting random nonsense, to random nonsense with pictures when we started to use pictures to distinguish between spam and real users, to having to pre-fill captchas with his spam bot to not having to pre-fill chunks of captchas to use his bot, to finally current iteration where he gets posts from the archives to copy and then post. so no, this is not a bot he just got off a discord or whatever. if another general was experiencing the same issue as /xiv/, with the same spam pattern? its the same guy. i watched that shit evolve.
>>1253745 Do I really need proof that these trannies coalesce in a discord and trade code for dick pics? The exact same style of bot spammed the modded minecraft general on 4/vg/ a week or so before the cloudflare cookie change dropped, which is what stopped it. Must be a year ago by now.
>>1253884 Ok then why was there a scripttranny using the same shit a year ago? On a general that had problems even staying alive, that's how niche it was. Almost like they share these bots between each other to shit up websites.
Who fucking cares? Be it one person or multiple they're clearly just fucking deranged.
>>1253907 I hope the admins here are still developing measures against him. He used to be the same type of problem on /v/ until he suddenly stopped to "show mercy" for a few days. I hope the people in charge here didn't let down their guard and continued to devise countermeasures.
>>1253861 >if another general was experiencing the same issue as /xiv/ fuck, i mean "as the /xiv/ general"
https://8chan.moe/vg/res/26415.html#26547 I wouldn't be surprised if this were true, they sat in the /v/ threads spamming dozens of posts about how much they hate xivg and their names were both being passed around as the spammers regularly.
>>1255197 emily is the saddest sack of shit to have ever been born
>>1255223 Don't know enough about /xivg/ or their culture to know if it's truly them, but it is suspect timing.
>>1231604 Hopefully this means Undertale/Deltarune threads get banished to /vg/ as well.
>>1255248 Emiliy shit on the lalaposters, and gets shitposted a lot in return. i would ignore it.
>>1232902 you should implement some of these features into default 8chan: >>1232842 especially the quote inlining but make sure to add the 4chan method where the clicked quote becomes grayed out
4chan is back and the normalfags will return there. Life is good.
>>1257975 i'm staying. sorry, nonny. 4/v/ is a cesspit
>>1232902 >>1257921 also add a red line to signify new posts
