Lords of the Fallen Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 14:11:14 Id: 11ecc1 No. 1176500
Has anyone else been playing this since the 2.0 release? They made a whole bunch of improvements and I've been enjoying it.
I'm curious what the co-op is like. Does it scale up stuff or is it practically easy mode at that point?
>>1176500 Lies of P better
>>1176985 LoP plays more like Bloodborne than this.
>Friend Pass from It Takes Two with seamless multiplayer I'll bite any pugilist weapons?
Haven’t yet, but I played around 1.6 I think and had a good time. Probably the best non-From Souls game including LoP. Also gave me my new username for everything because the subtitles said [chuckles darkly] instead of “Hahaha…” for one of the characters and I kek’d my sides into orbit
>>1177303 Chuckles Darkly is a great name lol
(2.08 MB 1900x1993 girl with hammer.jpg)

I've decided to make a Str/Rad character.
>>1177258 A few along with a matching set of armor for one. There's even a special bucket one where if upgraded to +10 gets an array of special buckst-based powers
Wait is this a patch for ancient first game? Wtf?
>>1176500 Okay but does it address the fact that the amount of ambushes is absurd and quite possibly the single worst aspect of the game.
>>1179454 No, they released a new game that was also called Lord of the Fallen in 2023. This is an update to that. >>1179513 Do you mean like player invasions or just enemies grouped together?
>>1176500 I'm replaying it for the 4th (and maybe last) time, I reached the Abbey and I don't really feel like playing anymore. The game simply does not have the enemy variety to keep me engaged till the end, all things considered, I think it was a solid first attempt for the studio, but for the sequel they really need to add more enemy variety. The coop is ok and friend's pass is nice, as for the PvP, if they can't improve it for the sequel then they should just get rid of it completely, and I say this as an invader, in its current state the PvP is even worse than PS3 Demon's Souls PvP.
>>1179675 Well, I'm enjoying it as a first time player and I appreciate them listening to player feedback. Maybe the sequel will incorporate what they've learned.
I started a second playthrough with all the modifiers on and the randomizer. I am enjoying it a lot more than the first regular playthrough. Can be a little annoying at times because gear, estus and lamp upgrade shards are all random but I like finding random gear I never got in the previous run. Game is decent. Don't know if I will finish it this time because it's very long but enemy variety isnt there to accommodate.
There used to be a mod on the Nexus that blanket unlocks the three unlockable classes that were gatekept otherwise (including Dark Crusader which is also a DLC unlockable, which might be why that mod got deleted). Is there any way to unlock that shit from the start now? I want my first playthrough to be Putrid Child if I can help it. It's just up my alley. If not, how long will it take to beat the game as Dark Crusader to unlock Putrid Child? I normally only play games one time through because of time constraints/backlog.

>>1176500 I'm so used to the original that all the changes are jarring when I play still. I am beginning to think most of the changes are improvements. I'm not sold yet on the jump button though. I keep jumping around when I try to pick up items, open doors, or climb ladders since it's the same button. They didn't give me a jump attack either.
>>1176500 I'm going to buy it tomorrow, the sale on steam right now is great and the friend pass stuff they did is just so nice of them, also >Male and female on character creation Really takes me back, good shit
>>1233341 Unlocking Putrid Child involves killing essential NPCs, doing really obscure shit and killing hardest boss in the game for worst ending. It is not meant for first playthrough
>>1176500 Just beat NG on a STR-RAD character, this is one of the best games I've ever played. Small complaints aside, this is to me the true spiritual successor of Dark Souls 1. There's a lot of RP in this ARPG, without comparing directly here's what I noticed and liked: >The systems >Vitality and Endurance both increase Load >Magic stats both increase max Mana >No stupid stats like "Cast Speed" >Load reference point is 100% instead of a percentage >Being heavy load doesn't feel like ass >Consumables matter and game gives a steady supply throughout and encourages using them >Trinkets are either very useful to enable a playstyle or massive boons to countering a type of enemy >Runes are goated >Incredible build variety >Damage type weakness matters >Custom checkpoint is fucking genius >Incredibly well done input scheme, items, Lamp and Ranged all coexisting with the melee inputs seamlessly is a feat on it's own >no dumb, anti-fun restrictions for the most part. Can put ANY BUFF on ANY WEAPON (because why the fuck not!) >applying a buff puts it on BOTH WEAPONS (FUCKING THANK YOU!) Overall I loved that I could PREPARE and SETUP for the area ahead and it would significantly better my chances. The action part is also an evolution <perfect block/parry, ties in with posture system <withered health on block encourages aggression and try parrying even on no shield builds <back step gives fucking i-frames <dodge while lock-on is a quick dash, directional (FUCK ROLLSLOPPING!) <"short" weapons have comfortable length and identity <"long" swords swing fast enough and have a proper moveset instead of being heftily swung around like an iron stick speaking <and the moves, ooh the moves... there are so many moves one can do and they chain smoothly one after another, there's <mixing up regular and heavy attacks will remember the step in the chain <can switch between 1-hand and 2-hands mid combo seamlessly <previous 2 items combine for infinite combos <backstep attack <dash attack <roll attack <run attack <multi-hit attack there's are so many ACTIONS I can do and I'm encouraged and rewarded for dong so, not punished TLDR: This game is an evolution of the Soul genre and set a new bar for me.
>>1289272 this is an indian or one of the developers for sure >(FUCK ROLLSLOPPING!) or maybe he's just retarded the problem will rolls/dashes are the i-frames that change them from a positioning tool into a one-size-fits-all defensive solution, the animation is not important
>>1291563 cope, seethe and dial8, fag. I genuinely like this game and you couldn't refute a single thing I said except for that low hanging fruit talk about the input scheme, the smooth swapping and chaining, the spell selection system. All you had to say is the same old "muh i-frames" that souls haters have said a million times. You are a carbon copy of every other /v/tard out there
>>1289272 I like the game, but I think you're being overly generous. LotF2 feels like a lot of great, small decisions that add up to less than the sum of their parts. That said, I'm a big fan of >vestige seeds >the control scheme >ranged weapons being viable, including thrown weapons >the armor dye system >the rune system, including the ability to soul flay specific enemies for specific runes
Just played the game for the first time myself and quite enjoyed it, but as a lorefag it somewhat let me down. I think locking item descriptions behind radiance/inferno was a cool idea, but not being able to view an item's description from the weapon equip screen is a tiny QoL failure that means you have to manually search for whatever you've just found in your inventory. I also felt like the evil factions didn't make a very compelling argument for me to choose them, they don't offer me anything or give some kind of justification for their goals beyond a chick wearing clothes of human skin walking up to you and saying you need to retvrn to nature or even worse the umbral NPC who just assumes you're going with his ending long after you locked yourself out of it 5 hours into the game.

>>1293435 I just really like how they took most of the core ideas of Dark Souls 1 and Demons Souls and evolved them in a way that made them better. >>the rune system, including the ability to soul flay specific enemies for specific runes the WHAT NOW?? >LotF2 feels like a lot of great, small decisions that add up to less than the sum of their parts could you expand on this, please? The ranged input scheme was a massive step up from the garbage 1-button cycling spells inherited from Souls, this is the way going forward love the Dyes all the improvements to melee need more praise, it is actually a bigger deal than most realize. smooth swapping + clean chaining is, like I said, an evolution from the comparatively crude and clunky swing back and forth from Souls. I like action games with a deep baseline action combat system, here's another example from a small game
>>1294396 >expand on this It has Dark Souls 2 syndrome: lots of interesting and unique details that are undermined by more fundamental issues. In LotF2's case, these issues are >a lack of moveset variety within weapon classes >a lack of consistency in weapon animation quality, specifically the ice-skating animations on any weapon with short range (excepting fists and claws) >a lack of enemy variety, especially in Umbral >Unreal Engine 5 >while the environment, armor, and weapon design are all great, many of the enemy designs feel uninspired I find it difficult to be drawn into the world of LotF2 like I am with Souls games, mechanically or aesthetically. It doesn't stimulate me in either regard. It's all very surface-level, and in that respect it's a good game.

I have... It stills feels like a lesser budget Souls + good visuals -- a decent effort that isn't something that most will come back to. Having said that, if they make a similar improvement jump as they did from the 2013 game to this -- moreover, the post-launch commitment to improving their products -- LotF3 will likely be a Souls killer... especially if FS keep shitting the bed down the multiplayer / Fortnite path to I. P. perdition. I'll likely co-op through it, given I've nothing much else to play currently... But, it's just missing something >too linear >magic system is trash >fashion is uninspired >"classes" blend together >adds based boss battles >lantern gimmick is very engaging >too many hackneyed Souls tropes which should have long be cut from even FS's games
(939.03 KB 1280x720 the dark souls community.png)

I still think this should be merged with the other Souls thread, if only to keep the Souls community here together.
>>1301526 Naah, keep this shit away from souls thread, let it be its own thing
>>1291563 I prefer dodges to be a positioning tool too but that issue is in every single soulslike and LotF does having good spacing mechanics because the tracking is not as bad as in newer Souls games. Using dodges less and spacing more is not only feasible but effective and fun.
>>1294396 >the WHAT NOW?? When you completely deplete the enemy's health with wither damage you get a special critical prompt, just wait for half a second and make sure to be on neutral before pressing it because otherwise it sometimes just does an R1 instead of the critical animation. Killing enemies this way for enemies that drop runes guarantees they will drop their rune. An easy way to do this is to fight the enemy normally until they have 1 hit left and finish them off with soulflay.
>>1301389 >too linear So far this feels less linear than even DS1. After the tutorial and first proper dungeon you can open multiple zones with the bell doors. I don't know what triggers it exactly but right now I have three major new zones open simultaneously and all of them just keep going and going.
