Apparently Ecco and Ecco Tides of Times are getting a remaster by Ed Annunziata and most of the original Hungarian team at Novotrade/Appaloosa. I don't know how they're going to remaster the game considering how well the visuals hold up, although I HOPE they don't make everything 3D in UE5 and call it a day. After the remasters are finished they're going to be making a new sequel to Ecco, although they're not working on the 3D Dreamcast game Defender of the Future or it's cancelled sequel, Sentinels of the Universe, which I believe are much more deserving of a facelift and mechanical fixes. They explained that actually, it had no involvement from the creators. That probably goes beyond a "UHH WE DIDN'T MAKE IT SO IT'S SHIT" mentality, rather some devs can feel very uncomfortable about touching other people's work like that. Raphaël Colantonio expressed his disgust over being forced to rename Typhoon to Prey (2017) during development, then be told to lie about it in interviews. He said it was like stealing Human Head's legacy.

Or am I the only one who's actually played them? Yeah, they're unique and really weird games, but they're not actually that good. They're worth playing more for the experience of being a time traveling dolphin fighting aliens rather than for the purposes of having good gameplay.

Part of me is happy old games are getting recognized and played by newer generations but part of me also wishes old games could just be left in the past to die a peaceful franchise death. Something something no new ideas something something death of the industry can't come fast enough
