Hypnosis games Anonymous 05/07/2025 (Wed) 19:21:02 Id: 6c8525 No. 1329124
Post about games you've played with hypnosis and talk about why you like or dislike how they handled it.

>>1329132 There are normal games with mind control too smart ass.
Is this a disguised fetish thread? Grelbin in Ratchet 2 had you mind control robots for a section. Unfortunately, it's the worst level in the game. Not because of the robots, mind you.
>>1329150 No, it's not disguised at all. I like talking about these things in the context of normal games, when they aren't going for only sex appeal. Also mechanically mind control can be really shit.

>>1329124 Yuri's Revenge had a plot centered around mind control. I enjoyed the B-movie style it had, and the idea of a faction centered around mind control was a neat change of pace. Bioshock is another one that everyone probably knows. Shame the twist doesn't carry the rest of the game. Superhot has you jumping between bodies as you take control which lets you set up some neat combo kills. Mindjack was another game for the ps3, but I never got around to playing it and heard it was a mess. I remember an original xbox game that had mind control in it as well, but I can't recall the name.
>>1329356 RTS games and other more tactical games seem to get a lot more depth out of their mind control. You already mentioned Yuri's Revenge, Xcom's mind control can also be a serious game changer. Trying to put mind control into a jrpg with only 4 characters, or worse a game with only 1 playable character means they have to nerf it to barely being mind control at all.
OP's not even disguised fetish thread
I'm sorry, what?

In the Blood Omen games, you had Control Mind in the first game and Charm in the second one, which allowed you to take control over an NPC, mostly to push some inaccessible levers. Baldur's Gate 3 has a hypnosis spell, but all it does is make the enemy take no actions for 2 turns, unless attacked, so it's just a weaker sleep or paralysis. On the other hand there is also Dominate Person, which allows you to make a humanoid character temporarily fight for you. Sekiro, technically has a hypnotic ability, in that you can backstab certain enemies to puppeteer them, but it's mostly for the NPC to do a scripted thing to advance the level. >>1330000 Hypnotism is mostly associated with fetishism at this point, which is why I initially linked to /hgg/ as a joke. Thankfully the thread seems to be serious enough so I decided to also post in good faith. of course I can also recommend hypno hentai games.

>>1331249 Lots of things are becoming overwhelmingly associated with their fetish community, and I don't think that's good for games overall. Afraid of having kinky content, they try to avoid more of these tropes and elements, reducing the space games have to tell interesting stories, and further reinforcing the idea that those things are only a sex thing. Of course I am biased, but I think that game devs need to see people getting off to their games less like something to be avoided and more like a neutral thing. You shouldn't hold yourself back because other people are freaks.
>>1331282 >You shouldn't hold yourself back because other people are freaks. Once you've truly seen the depth some people get to trying to get sexual gratification I don't see how you can even begin to create anything if you're afraid of people using it for sexual gratification. >>1329399 >Trying to put mind control into a jrpg with only 4 characters, Plenty of games do this, it usually ends up being a party wipe if you're not expecting it but otherwise not bad, FF7 is especially guilty of this with that one enemy type spamming the fucking hypnosis shit over and over. >>1329150 >it's the worst level in the game. Not because of the robots, mind you. Skill issue Magma gun with lockon mod is your BFF >>1329124 Fatal Frame has a few instances
If "Mind Wipe" is a form of hypnotism, then in Gothic 2 you have the Oblivion spell scrolls. It makes an NPC forget any crime committed against him, which is great for robbing them. As a kid, when I played it, I would get the scroll from an NPC, asking me to test it, so I would just attack him, rob him of all of his stuff, use the scroll on him, then when talking to him again he would go >So did the scroll work? <Yes. >Wonderful. Or something to that effect, it was quite hilarious. >>1331282 I guess intent and presentation matter a lot. If it starts going into porn territories, as in actual sex, then it's most likely a fetish. But it doesn't have to be actual porn, if we were to take vore as an example, then there is a clear difference between Kirby and Tribal Hunter. Sure, none of them are pornographic, but one is just a cute game made with pure intentions, while the other is the author's barely disguised fetishes. I will let you decide which is which :^)
>>1331249 >Sekiro Yeah it's used for a couple of puzzles but it does have actual combat value. I know in particular it makes the double ministry ninja fight and the second Seven Spears fight both much less of a headache. As far as how it's handled, it's underused like just like the other two ninjutsu are. All work perfectly well but you kind of have to force them. They all might be better on higher NG cycles, especially if you're going charmless.
>>1329124 The only ones I can think of is Ratchet 1 and Sly 2. Sly had some basic "you're in a daze so very hard to see where you're going" mechanic that lasts like 5 seconds, that is IF you don't dodge the hypno ray in time. Ratchet 1 has a hypno device that only works on mechanical weapons vendors (very funny). Since I am not a hypnofag (at least I don't think I am), both games handled it just fine.
One could consider most games where you control a character entirely as a form of hypnosis. They have no idea they're being controlled and judging by their weird dialogue it likely seems like a almost dreamlike experience to them. Whether it's a good one or a nightmare is up to the player. Would also explain how maps often have dramatically different terrains so close together and items in odd palces, where irl they wouldn't be.
