Today I want to talk about Haruka's hair. Haruka has very dark, purple hair that goes down to her chest. It seems to be a gradient from could be considered black to definitely purple, but for the sake of simplicity, I'll refer to it as purple. Her purple hair is curly in part because she doesn't seem to brush her hair too often, but also because that's simply how her hair simply is. She wears a few hairclips in her hair of various shades of purple, likely to help keep her hair somewhat under control, but it's very intriguing that she puts the long part of her hair in front of her. It's almost like she's doing that to comfort herself a bit, and her pose with how she's practically hugging her gun seems to further exemplify this. It's very precious.
Haruka's New Year outfit has a similar hairstyle, but with a light purple floral hairband instead of her normal hairclips. In general, her outfit is brighter, though that's likely because her yukata has nice white flowers and frills on it, but even then, the purples on her outfit is brighter, feeling like it's optimistic for the new year, but in a signature Haruka way. She still holds herself in a reserved, self-comforting way, but her eyes seem to be different- instead of wary, she seems more... Tired? Like maybe she can relax a bit near you, or that she can possibly have a better year.
Haruka's dress is very exciting, because she brushed her hair and put it behind her, along with tying it up in a black hairband. This being a rare thing is apparent because of her stray hairs, but it's very wholesome to see her appear more "normal". She's still unmistakably Haruka with her closed body language and both hands on her handbag, but she seems to be putting in the effort. Good work!
Finally is her in a suit, which is somewhat amusing because of the implication that she's able to dress up in different costumes surprisingly fast. Her hair is tied up in a ponytail, but this wasn't done too well as her hair still is in front of her. She seems fidgety in the suit, and she still holds herself close, though her knees aren't together, which is a noticable difference in her posturing- perhaps she expects to run around a lot in this suit?
There's no other way to put it- Haruka doesn't take much care of her hair, not as much as she should. There's a remarkable tenacity in her appearance, though- even though she's probably only just making it, day to day, she manages to perservere- like a weed growing through the sidewalk. While weeds are typically considered pests and unsightly, there's something about Haruka that flips that notion on its head, instead being about something working hard to enjoy the sun and rain, even if it's in an alleyway. Her hair likely doesn't smell of anything because of the aforementioned lack of being able to clean it, but I can't help but want to brush her hair straight and let her use the showers in SCHALE. Somehow, I get the feeling she'd reject the second part.
