Today I want to talk about Natsu's hair. Natsu is difficult to talk about because if I look at her too much, I find my thoughts suddenly wandering. She's very comfy in that regard, like a sweet, sugary cloud.
Natsu has bubblegum-pink hair that, if it wasn't tied up, looks to go down to about her ass, maybe her upper thighs. It's wavy and somewhat shaggy, yet it's not entirely straight or curly. Her hair is also very fascinating in that I'm pretty sure she has head wings, but they're not nearly as pronounced as Shimiko's- if you took the base orange part of Shimiko's wings and put them up a bit higher, you'd have Natu's head wings. She puts her hair up that her right side is a ponytail, while her left side naturally goes down, providing an asymmetrical design that manages to still remain in the realm of symmetry. But then what is symmetry, anyways? Her hair is both practical and fashionable- practical in that it won't get in her eyes during a battle, and fashionable in that it's a good look. Her hair is cute, like a strawberry. But it's also elegant, like a cruller. A side that's girly and cute, with a side that's mature and stylish, both living in harmony but they are not equals... This is romantic. Her outfit is very simple, reminiscent of an ice cream cone, with her head being the cherry on top. It doesn't seem like it, but knowing Natsu, this feels intentional.
Natsu's band outfit, and accompanying hairstyle, is rock. She has now reversed her hair's weight- what was once an elegant and stylish left side is now bursting with a lively hairbun, ready to show the world what rock really is! It also has a story with it- her hairtie being a cream color sandwiched by her head and a bursting hairbun- she has managed to incorporate semla into her very outfit. She's motivated, and her hairclip even being on her left side instead of the right is further proof she's not going to let things hold her back from winning the semla! It's bold, it's a wild style, it's like she has gone from being vanilla ice cream to a pop rock. Her right side still has some hair to it- she's not going to completely abandon who she is on this journey, and it's reminiscent of the moral of Atlas's tragedy- she can't do everything on her own, so she'll rely on and back up her friends if the going gets rough. Even though she doesn't have her comfy normal outfit, she chose baggier clothes to have a similar feeling of fullness, while being nostalgic. Almost like a memory of a particularly yummy dessert.
Her school festival outfit is mostly a return to form, but it also provides an answer to the mystery on if her hair is straight or curly- it's both. Indeed, Natsu's hair has a curlier left side, with a straighter right side. A straight, honest statement with a few creatively picked words to complete her ensemble, like how even milk has a subtle, creamy taste when you've drunk enough of it. Her outfit being like Frankenstein fits her very well, too. It's a fun trend she's had throughout her character in being nostalgic- finding long lost sweets- embracing yesteryear's rock- being an amalgamation of the dead- it's a good story. Her scary face is also very cute, because it looks more like her trying her hardest. Her hair also having a surprise in being winged is a lot like eating a popsicle only to see you're the winner.
Natsu's hair is somewhat messy, but very healthy and clean. I wouldn't be surprised if she has her hair intentionally messy as a stylistic choice (and maybe a bit of laziness, which is very endearing on her). Her hair smells of strawberries, but it's faint. It's faint because for a girl to simply show all her cards like that wouldn't be very romantic, and gives her a slight mystique.
