Halloween 2025 Anonymous 10/01/2025 (Wed) 20:00:00 Id: b81395 No. 1806848
Hey bros, it's that time of year again. Post what games you're playing or finished this month and give your thoughts/recommendations. The first game I'm playing is Butcher's Creek, which is very similar to Condemned: Criminal Origins in that you're fighting serial killers with blunt objects you find in the environment.
For the last 2 or 3 years I've meant to play Costume Quest 2 for October but keep forgetting about it, hopefully this time. I've heard it's like 12 times longer than the first game, that's somewhat worrying but I've also heard it's a lot deeper than the first also.
(138.08 KB 228x302 Bloodborne_Protagonist.png)

Maybe I'll revisit this game.
>>1807021 Considering it's playable on PC now (ShadPS4) I might actually play it for once.
(1.27 MB 3204x1773 folklore.jpg)

I need to finish this fucking game already. It was been uncompleted for so fucking long. I still remember being so intrigued by the demo and wanting to play the whole game. Then years later I finally got it. Played and then dropped it. Played it again a year later and dropped it. Played it last year and finished the girls story but now I gotta finish the mans story. I think the problem with the game is that if you engage with any of the side content the game becomes unbearably repetitive. Even if you dont engage with it it becomes so fucking repetitive. My first few attempts I tried t omax out all of my summons little levelling quests and it was such a grind. Latest attempt I just ran through the story and got to the end in a pretty short time. I bet you the mans story is only going to take me 4-6 hours but it will be a very repetitive 4-6 hours. Despite all my whinging I still recommend the game just please avoid the side stuff. Dont level up your folks unless you have a particular favourite. God I wish the studio hadn't died so someone could make this game but actually great.
I'm waiting for Scream Fortress. I love that fuckin event.
>>1806848 Fun little game. Not very long. Nowhere near as good as DUSK, but worth a few hours.
I've started RE1make - never played it despite having it in my Steam library for years Pretty good so far, though I have a lot of trouble adapting to tank controls and the tight item economy. But atmosphere is great. I also plan on trying either Fear and Hunger or Eternal Darkness before the month is over >>1807142 Scream Fortress is the only thing that gets me back to playing TF2 on occasion. Many great memories of past events, when the game was receiving content semi-regularly.
Oh I didn't see this thread. I played Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. It sucked. >>1808024 Think I'll replay Penumbra: Dark Plague next. It's the only Frictional game I still remember more than one or two things about.
Any horror text adventures you guys could recommend?
>>1806848 I really dont play anything different for spooky season. I started reading The House of Fata Morgana and they mentioned a witch, does that count?

Very few games come close to the atmosphere of Out of Hell, it captures the draw of an Autumnal USA small town downright perfectly. https://www.moddb.com/mods/out-of-hell
>Obscure 2 I really liked the first one, but man I did not care for the sequel at all. It was very tedious to get as far as I did, and I somehow managed to softlock myself. Because of how it makes multiple saves a pain (purely due to bad menu design) and how little fun I had, I dropped it. >Callisto Protocol It's like Dead Space but worse in pretty much every way. The combat is annoying at times, but overall it's a serviceable videogame. I'll probably finish it. I'll probably find a couple more horror games to play this month, but idk what yet.
>>1809688 Is that a Doom wad or can it be downloaded on its own?
>>1812832 UT2004 mod You'll need to install that game first https://gog-games.to/game/unreal_tournament_2004_ece
>>1807021 Yep it's BB time soon. I just need a little free time and I need to decide what kind of weapon build to run this time. Stake Driver maybe?

>>1807242 >>1806848 Good game, hopefully the dev continues to make stuff like that in the future I've been playing Cultic, chapter 2 recently came out. It's similar to Blood, though less demon/hell themed and more brainwashing cult themed.
>>1815627 Chapter 2 level design is too sloppy unfortunately, the low ammo count and the cheap enemey spawns don't help either.
>>1815627 >>1815840 Was gonna give it a try then discovered this absolute nigger of a dev pulled a fast one on everyone and made the fucking rest of the game a fucking DLC
>>1806848 Gonna try it out, I love condemned.
>>1816007 Chapter 2 was always advertised as DLC you dumb faggot.
>>1815840 I agree on your points, that definitely put chapter 2 below chapter 1 for me in terms of enjoyability. The dev did mention he was going to bump up the ammo amount given a little so it might get slightly better for future runs atleast. Too often though enemies were bursting out from locked doors behind the player, that got annoying real fast. Hopefully the eventual chapter 3 will be better.
>>1816200 Pretty sure it wasn't, or I wouldn't have bothered with the base game.
>>1817542 >>1816200 Yeah just rechecked a bunch of devlogs and updates on the steam page and you're a lying fucking cunt, nowhere has it been mentioned it would be paid for (much less the same price as the base game), eat shit retarded niggerfaggot.
It's spooky season you dopey niggers, this thread should be number one on the catalog! WHAT SPOOKY GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING?
(158.06 KB 434x640 STALKER LMAO.jpg)

>>1817575 >>1817542 3 years ago you dumb fuck https://steamcommunity.com/app/1684930/discussions/0/6077070109429436703/ >>1817743 I'm replaying the STALKER trilogy again, got the itch after a few months. Everytime I feel like I stopped caring about vidya, I go back to it, burning out of it never feels bad as well.
>>1817743 Not sure quite yet, hopefully not gonna abandon whatever game I end up picking after an hour to replay another I've played way too many times. So far on the list >SENSEs: Midnight >Darkwood >Dreadout >>1817803 >3 years ago you dumb fuck >https://steamcommunity.com/app/1684930/discussions/0/6077070109429436703/ Buried in the forums is not "advertised as". Don't defend jewish behavior from some indiefagget, there was no reason to expect it would be as plenty of other devs have released games with a similar scope as both chapters within the 10-15 bucks pricepoint, should've been upfront in official communications instead.
(67.79 KB 609x900 Ooga Booga.jpg)

>>1817825 >I'm an ignorant retard Nobodies fault but you you stupid fucking nigger, the dev stated Chapter 2 was going to be paid DLC 3 years ago on all his newfeeds. https://steamcommunity.com/games/1684930/announcements/detail/3558431917733325929?snr=2___ You pirated it anyway you subhuman baboon, fuck your chimping!
>>1816849 The spongey as fuck suicide bombers is what pisses me off the most. And they literally spawn like 4 of them behind you, at the end of the Slaughterhouse level. The cops with .38 revolvers that wait for you to pop out (no matter which opening) and take half your health in 2 shots are fucking awful as well. Add to that the complete lack of molotovs to deal with armored enemies and it becomes a frustrating mess. The whole game becomes a peekfest where you're trying to kill distant unaware non aggroed enemies while your weapons RNG misses their head half the time, awfully done ambushes (unlike the top tier ones in the first chapter) and sections where the dev clearly wants you to play the game like NuDoom for some retarded ass reason, to the point he added a dash move that doesn't fit the games atmosphere and mood at all. It's so half baked that I can't enjoy it and it's such a shame because in terms of presentation it's top tier. I knew the game was completely fucked when I had more fun in webbum than the actual game. And it pains me man, because I really want to like it, but it's a fucking letdown.
>>1817833 You seem awfully defensive of some okay game from some random solodev (well not for ch2, since he's got a map making helper for that one). >You pirated it anyway you subhuman baboon, fuck your chimping! pic related, you can even notice I beat it prior to it being bundled or heavily discounted even, guess I'm sailing the high seas for ch2.

>>1817863 >You seem awfully defensive I don't give a shit about the game! You're retarded, stop posting!
>>1816849 >bursting out from locked doors behind the player Worse! Out of thin air, several times!
>>1817864 >I don't give a shit about the game! >almost whole post history about the game >actual long posts with well formed opinions Yeah I can see how much you're not giving a fuck right now

>>1817880 I'm sorry you're a brown retard with an IQ so low you couldn't even understand that Chapter 2 of something is a paid product, even after the Developer stated so everywhere from the very start! I pirated it, so I don't give a shit!
>>1817888 >I'm sorry you're a brown retard with an IQ so low you couldn't even understand that Chapter 2 of something is a paid product What is early access, which this game was part of. >even after the Developer stated so everywhere from the very start! >everywhere >one buried comment, one buried FAQ Words have definitions for a reason. >I pirated it, so I don't give a shit! If you don't give a shit, why are you still here, talking about the thing you claim to not give a shit about?
(234.56 KB 640x352 You.mp4)

>>1817896 >Every excuse under the sun after being proven wrong >Changes goalposts multiple times >why are you still here, talking about the thing you claim to not give a shit about? You're a brown low IQ narcissistic mouthbreating fucktub and someone needs to make you aware of that. The devs aren't at fault for clearly announcing the paid expansion, I'm not at fault for talking about a videogame. You're at fault for being dumb and brown.
Halloween is supposed to be comfy not spergout time
>>1817858 The dash genuinely helped with the final boss atleast, which is wild because I didn't use it the entire rest of the game. The suiciders were crazy easy to cheese atleast by just hopping up on things. He's talking about adding a automap so that might help with the navigation issues some people had. Also I'm really glad we can domesticate the grenadiers by kicking them. More games need the option to recruit enemies, even if it's difficult. >>1817959 On the subject of cozy (yet spoopy) Halloween, hopefully we get more Friday the 13th movies eventually. The closest we've gotten is "In a Violent Nature" which was pretty good. Some people weren't fans of the long shots of the killer walking through the wilderness but personally I think it adds to the suspense.
>>1817908 You lost, burying an announcement like that is incredibly jewish
>>1809832 Finished Callisto Protocol. I grew incredibly annoyed at the combat. I beat both the campaign and the DLC epilogue and I still don't understand how dodging works and why sometimes I dodge attacks and sometimes don't. Should of just re-played Dead Space. Also I don't think you can really blame Jacob for what happened on Europa. He's a glorified mailman, he didn't know what he was carrying or what it would be used for. Dani is just gaslighting him to feel bad about it for her own gain.
>>1819280 Navigation is fine, even with the size of the maps The issue is combat encounters
Ghost Master, of course. Spooky!
(363.33 KB 1920x960 amnesia-bunker.jpg)

I'll be replaying the Bunker most likely. Amnesia The Bunker is one of the most underappreciated horror games out there, which is ironic because The Dark Decent and SOMA are two of the most overrated horror games. Frictional finally ditched the borderline walking simulators to make something that's almost 100% pure, solid gameplay, and they were punished for it.
>>1819790 typical female behavior then
>>1819790 Isn't there also almost no actual enemy types or combat variety in Callisto Protocol, when the first Dead Space already had like a dozen different types of Necromorphs and several different approaches to combat? I've also heard it's literally packed with vent sequences. >>1820193 >punished for it Punished how? Most people I know who played it had great things to say. It's just that the game is like 2 hours max which really drags it into disappointment territory.
>>1820193 >Frictional finally ditched the borderline walking simulators to make something that's almost 100% pure, solid gameplay, and they were punished for it. People overreacted to "Machine for Pigs" which was a boring walking sim, Frictional seems to have issues not fucking with a working formula since Penumbra: Requiem so it's not surprising seeing them do wild changes on the gameplay side.
>>1820286 >Punished how? Most people I know who played it had great things to say. It's just that the game is like 2 hours max which really drags it into disappointment territory. I'm pretty sure it's the least successful game in the series, got less attention than even Rebirth. As for the length, the game is built for multiple runs. Finishing the game once is nothing, it actually has mechanics that make it difficult and it gets better the more you replay it at higher difficulties. That's like complaining that "a shmup is only 30 minutes long". The game is not content slop, it's supposed to be mastered with repeat playthroughs, it's like playing classic Resident Evil with an item randomizer, except a lot more tense.
>>1820193 It did better than Stillbirth so I wouldn't say they were punished. >>1820319 They barely marketed it because all their funding was sunk into Stillbirth with little to no return.
>>1820319 >>1820530 Adding to that, Stillbirth was released during Covid And the shilling campaign really was massive.
(1.22 MB 400x300 nod.gif)

Something vidya related that's "Silly" & "Fun" for Halloween >>>/vb/30274
>>1820534 >And the shilling campaign really was massive. It was? I remember Machine for Pigs getting shilled left and right and blowing up in their face when there was barely any of the stuff that made it soyface youtuber bait but I don't even recall it sticking around very long in horror speedrunner circles (and those guys will gorge on every single trash release there is for months if it's been shilled any), still good that they found their way back to what should've been the next logical step from Penumbra.
>>1820572 > I don't even recall it sticking *I don't even recall Rebirth sticking
>>1820530 On SteamDB the player peak for Bunker is less than half of Abortion. Though both are surprisingly low for how well known the brand is. I guess all the normalfags watched streamers instead of actually playing the game.
>>1806848 I recommend Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau which is a funny horror 3rd person shooter and Nightmare of Decay which is kind of like a first person Resident Evil. Also, Mad Father is a great Wolf RPG or RPGMaker story and puzzle game. Currently I am playing a little of Darkwood. I plan to go through Pony Factory since I had that in my backlog for over two years.
>>1820286 >Isn't there also almost no actual enemy types or combat variety in Callisto Protocol Pretty much yeah. There's like 5 enemy types, and you primarily fight 3 throughout most of the game. >I've also heard it's literally packed with vent sequences. Yeah there's a lot, and they get tedious and annoying. The DLC does something kind of interesting with it but even that gets old very quickly.
>>1820629 Stillbirth looked horrible and was horrible, to the point it shat all over Frictionals reputation. But people were stuck at home and the game was massively shilled unlike the Bunker. That's the reason anon
>>1820645 >Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau That looks pretty fun This kind of games with an horror aesthetic but gameplay / story that clashes completely is something that's had a few decent games recently and I quite like it, like Bloodborne Kart and that one soccer game with SH inspired graphics/monsters (FEAR FA 98) > Also, Mad Father is a great Wolf RPG or RPGMaker story and puzzle game. One thing I found with RPGmaker horror stuff is you get tired of it way too fast, there's literally hundreds of games you could consider worth playing and you're gonna not wanna play any of them after the first 5-10 ones even though you'd have enjoyed any of them had they been one of the first few you've played, good thing they're usually free.

I’m having a low-key Halloween season this year. I’ll go all in next year but this month I’m mostly just checking out some new releases. I’ll also play some shorter horror games (6 hours or less), like Amnesia: The Bunker.
>>1806848 I'm not playing anything that spooky, but Quake and the Halloween Jam maps feel perfect for this time of year due to the Lovecraft influences.
>>1833362 Let me know how that Disney looking game goes. I'm interested in the game if it's any good.
>>1835557 Fuck that's comfy
I had a really great time playing Darkwood years ago and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spooky feeling game you can beat in a handful of days. Very atmospheric, not too hand holdy, and has a couple different choices/endings for replayability. Also tried playing Cry of Fear back when it was popular and liked it but ended up dropping the game like halfway through, mainly because of such a limited inventory necessitating running back and forth a bunch. Heard Fear of Monsters is pretty great too so might give that a try. Any other good source mods out there for spooky season?
(113.90 KB 1000x680 BAYRKNCO6RCWTMNOLJ6SH4LUDM.jpg)

I'm not much of a horror gamer, any suggestions to wet my beak? I don't have the most free time as I've got a full-time job.
>>1841765 Resident Evil Remake
>>1841813 The first?
>>1841765 The first Silent Hill is pretty spoopy and short enough that you can beat it in a few sittings. Same goes for the first couple Resident Evil games, plus they offer a decent range of difficulty. And they're all easily emulated. Taking a quick peek through my library I'd recommend Little Nightmares and Amnesia: The Bunker, those are both also relatively short and very easy to hop right into. >>1841860 I'm guessing that's what he meant.
>>1841765 There's already some very good recs but I can add >Penumbra: Overture It's short enough and easy enough that you'll probably be fine doing it in a couple sittings, not the most spookiest thing ever but good enough for a start. >F.E.A.R If all else fails this is the one horror game most people won't bounce away from.
Is DMC a good choice for the Halloween season? I've never played any, despite playing three and a half games that feature Dante. I had other games in mind for this year, but the recent death of my favorite cat depressed me, so now I'm not in the mood for survival horror or anything too gruesome.
>>1842528 It has demons and other horror enemies. The first game is all in a gothic castle as well. So it's probably fine enough. It has no horror obviously, but it has some of the themes. The second game is horror in the sense that it's horrible to play. >three and a half I know there's SMTIV Nocturne, the fighting games, and PGR. Is that all them or something else. >spoiler Sorry to hear that, anon.
>SMTIV Nocturne Fuck. It's SMTIII not IV.
>>1842645 Thanks, Anon. >Is that all them or something else? I played Nocturne, Viewtiful Joe, a tiny bit of Smash Bros Ultimate with my nephew, and some of the Nocturne remake that turned him into paid DLC that I didn't buy. I'm pretty sure he's in at least two of the MvC games and both Project X Zone games, but I haven't played those.
(87.47 KB 1280x720 endoparasitic.jpg)

I beat Endoparasitic, neat little game. Unique controls, the gunplay reminds me of Receiver a little bit in how you have to manually load and unload your guns. Endoparasitic is a game where you play as a guy with one arm, you drag yourself around, manage your inventory, and engage combat all with your arm (the mouse). If you want to shoot an enemy, you have to drag the gun off your body and aim it towards the lead recipient, then drag the gun back on yourself. You have a bug burrowing its way to your brain that acts as a timer until you find the next injection of meds, so you can't dilly dally in levels. It's kind of short but paced well. It feels like something you would have played on a Flash site in 2010, it has that feel to it. Its biggest issue is probably the writing and Twitter eceleb voice actors, it has that Gianni guy I don't like. Fuck the rat things
