There's no better feeling than modding a console, hardmod or softmod. It feels empowering and liberating, the closest thing in PC is installing linux or using a custom wangblows OS and tweaking your timer, affinity and priority scheduler. What is the state of 8-bit and 16-bit console emulation on the DSi? Are there good emulators or is the DS too weak?
>>905645 I'm not sure many emulators take advantage of the faster cpu/more ram of the dsi. But for normal ds emulation, the vast majority of games on 8 bit consoles run perfectly fine, but 16 bit can be hit or miss, especially snes
How the hell do you get retroarch to work on gamecube? I have it on Swiss but it doesn't seem to work at all. Ditto for Wii64 (which apparently works on GC) and WiiSX also QuakeGC doesnt seem to work cuz its apparently finicky about wanting to only boot from memcard slot a
Also how do you get FreeMcBoot on a PS2 fat with a hard drive to play PSX games? There's no good guides that aren't an insufferable wub wub dubstep video by a pajeet, they all recommend using a usb or something. Also I have no idea how to actually load them onto the hdd since it requires such an incredibly proprietary formatting of it that only one program i found works to access it and it only is able to load specifically ps2 games onto it
>>905751 >How the hell do you get retroarch to work on gamecube? I have it on Swiss but it doesn't seem to work at all. Why would you use that? The cube already has a lot of standalone programs to run the games off of and they work fine for the most part. >>905753 >Also how do you get FreeMcBoot on a PS2 fat with a hard drive to play PSX games? There's no good guides that aren't an insufferable wub wub dubstep video by a pajeet, they all recommend using a usb or something. Have you read this one? bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassin/popstarter-documentation-stuff/wiki/Home
>>905753 Personally I've never bothered trying to play ps1 games on ps2 via usb/hdd because the only way to do that is with popstarter (i.e emulation). But if you're determined to do it on ps2, go follow the relevant quickstart guide here https://bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassin/popstarter-documentation-stuff/wiki/Home
>>905751 >How the hell do you get retroarch to work on gamecube? Simple: *you don't. Retroarch has been a bloatware that can barely function on anything less powerful than the U.S.S. Enterprise for the past several years and it will never be anything more. >Also how do you get FreeMcBoot on a PS2 fat with a hard drive to play PSX games? Did you LOOK in the OP? >>905762 >Why would you use that? Because a lot of lazy retards look at Retroarch and see that it's an "all-in-one" emulator.
Thought people would like some advise on how to play game backups on their PS3. So, the two most common ways is to either go through MultiMAN: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:MultiMAN Or WebMAN: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:WebMAN What you do is that you decide on which device you want to store your PS3 games on. This is important because there are are limitations to each method. The "easiest" method is to store everything on your native PS3 hard drive, but this presents the problem that you're bound by whatever transfer method you're using and the size of the drive. If you want to upgrade the internal drive, here's a guide: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:Upgrading_your_Hard_Drive If you want to use an external hard drive (Or a flash drive), you have to two options, each with their own issues. The first option is to configure the drive into a FAT32 format. This has the best compatability with the PS3, but it poses the limitation that you cannot have any files that are bigger than 4GB on the drive. Here are most of the solutions to that: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:4GB_Files With the easier solution being to use WebMAN to load games from an NTFS formated hard drive: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:Using_an_NTFS_External_Hard_Drive MultiMAN will not load games on a NTFS formatted drive, so all it's good for is file transfers. However, this poses it's own limitation in that you cannot load jailbroken game rips when using an NTFS drive: https://archive.ph/JFMwC#post-169034 When it comes to PS3 games, there are two formats that you can find/extract them as. The first is the standard ISO format. The second is the "jailbroken" format. What the latter literally boils down to is just an extraction of the disc's contents into a folder. The reason for this format's existence is to work around the FAT32 size limitations (As, the only other method is to split the ISO). Once you figure out which drive (And/or it's file format) you want to use, here is how the folders are structured on the drive: https://github.com/aldostools/webMAN-MOD/wiki/Game-Paths-&-Covers Outside of that, the only other thing of note is that you'll have to open PrepISO/prepNTFS every time you add/remove a game if you're using an NTFS external hard drive. And you need to unmount the game through MultiMAN/WebMAN when you're done using it. Hopefully that gives people enough information to get them started and answer basic questions.
>>905835 Second one did it for me, but it's always down to how much you already know vs. how much you want to bother learning.

For the longest time i could not find a working replacement for the ps3's jailbreaking website, YT pirates and neither were soft modding forums were not helpful . But i found a solution on tiktok of all places, and it worked, but there are soo few games on the library that even appeal to me, but here it is if anyone wants it. You need version 4:90 or lower and i suggest you install the 1TB hard drive before doing it. The Author is lordgingerface and he does other softmodding tutorials, but i'm sure you can find plenty of resources to softmod other consoles.
>>908282 PS3 only has Gundam games and some niche JRPGs outside multiplats.
Someone released a SNES emulator for the N64 this year and honestly it's probably one of the most monumental homebrew software I've seen in a long time. Simpler games such as SMW and DKC run at nearly full speed and audio is 90% implemented, loads from any flash cart as well. https://github.com/Hydr8gon/sodium64 >>905753 Playing PSX games on PS2 other than using CDs has been in a pretty pathetic state for years now, even the Wii has now surpassed it with speed and compatibility. >>908442 >a SNES emulator for the N64 Now that is cool. Would be interesting to see it handle the SNES Street Fighter games since the N64 never got one. Better yet, would be more interesting to see the original Star Fox game run on it and if possible, a patch that remaps the controls to be like 64's.
Bump. Getting a 1TB microSD to replace the comparatively tiny 256GB microSD. Hacked Switch, but has anyone had any experience moving all the CFW stuff to the new card?
Supposedly there may be a new kernel exploit for the newest PS4 or PS5 firmware in the near future. https://archive.ph/62pKV
>>924291 Might be time to invest in a noames5 for the PC games that get cucked by Denuvo. Wonder if it's just kernel access to 4.05 or a new opening in current firmware.
>>927354 We don't yet know the extent or range of the exploit, and it has been or will be patched soon enough. Then you will be limited to just games from before the exploit was discovered. Don't go and buy a NogameStation 5 just yet before we know what the exploit does.

>>908442 >Playing PSX games on PS2 other than using CDs has been in a pretty pathetic state for years now, even the Wii has now surpassed it with speed and compatibility. I dont believe you, the Wii just does not have enough RAM and heartz speed to emulate PS1 at all, it could not even emulate N64 well other than VC titles, and last time i read about ps1 emulation on Wii, it was pretty abysmal.
What do you think of Wiistation 3.0, i think its nice PS1 emulation on Wii went from being worthless to decent. https://github.com/xjsxjs197/WiiSXRX_2022/releases

PS4: GoldHEN 2.4b17 released, brings long awaited PS4 FW 11.00 Support via PPPwn exploit! https://wololo.net/2024/05/09/ps4-goldhen-2-4b17-released-brings-long-awaited-ps4-fw-11-00-support-via-pppwn-exploit/ The wait is over, we now have a new PS4 jailbreak which will work with firmware up to and including 11.0. Video tutorial: https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=c99oey4lz9Q
>>967361 Neat, now all I need to do is find a decent bloodbornebox to play around with it. The exploit was already ""responsibly"" reported to Playstation, so expect a new update that patches this.
>>968074 It had been patched since 11.02, which was released in December of 2023. The way responsible disclosures work is the hacker first reports the vulnerability to Sony, they fix it, and the half a year later the hacker reveals it to the public.

2 months late, but the original Xbox now has its own FreeMcBoot softmod: ENDGame Exploit github.com/XboxDev/endgame-exploit Originally you had to find a compatible game like Splinter Cell with a USB stick containing the softmod files to make use of the exploit. However, if the Xbox's disc reader was broken, unless you had another console to transplant a working reader then you were shit out of luck softmodding it. There was another method where you could connect the console's IDE hard drive to a PC old enough for still supporting the format to softmod it via a program, but nowadays not many have a vintage PC to do that. With this new softmod method, you no longer need to hunt for exploitable games! All you have to do is >just put the softmod files in your USB stick that is formatted for the Xbox & then simply access it on the dashboard menu under memory Works on every region, Xbox revision, and kernels! The softmod files are also small enough to fit inside the Xbox memory cards if you still have them! You will still need to get a USB stick that plays nice with the Xbox & the Female USB To Xbox Adapter to plug it in to make use of the new method.

I need some help with PS3 backups. I'm trying to load PS3 game ISOs with WebMAN and the games either crash returning me to the XMB, never load and quiting the game causing the system to reboot, OR just freezes the console altogether about 10 seconds upon loading the game and require me to hard shutdown the system. Thus far, the games I've tested this out with are FF13 (JP version), Record of Agarest War (JP version), BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (JP version), and Burnout Paradise (US version). This has happened both on an NTFS formatted drive and a Fat32 formated drive with the ISO split for the former three. What am I doing wrong?

>>905504 >hardware emulation I dont see what benefit this brings the point is still the same, emulating the hardware and operating system of another device difference is that now its being done at lowlevel if its not 100% 1 to 1 hardware+software mimicking, I dont see how it will avoid the same problems current emulators have

>>1059599 FPGAs aren't a magick solution to all emu problems, but they have an inherent advantage in executing their instructions at the same clock due to not "emulating" hardware by translating its instructions into other instructions but rather LARPing as an IC at the gate level, mind you it's still a LARP just like a software emulator. This, provided the I/O surrounding the FPGA is set up correctly and its VHDL of acceptable quality, gets rid of latency problems and also permits use of the FPGA as a drop-in replacement for another chip, which is what the SD2SNES flashcart does to emulate various SFC enhancement chips. Disadvantage is that being a physical chip emulator various software injects, hacks and other features common to current age software emus are either straight up impossible or very difficult to implement.
>>970271 Sounds like you didn't decrypt the isos. Even while they're encrypted you can mount them and see them in the XMB, but they won't run. You need to decrypt them with the proper keys on a PC before copying them to the PS3.
Good news, an actual softmod called Bad Update has been released for the 360. https://github.com/grimdoomer/Xbox360BadUpdate Bad news, it's tethered, takes about 20-30 minutes to execute and only works around ~30% of the time.

>>1078479 I'm glad the Rock Band Blitz demo can be downloaded to a USB & be used for this instead of THAW because I can already see that game get even more expensive & harder to find. Guessing the best case scenairo for a more permanent hack would be something like HEN on the PS3 & PS4, where something in lieu of CFW has to be manually enabled from the dashboard every time the console is powered off. From what I've also read, this works with Winchester 360s
The PS3 remake of the Japanese arcade game Dancing Eyes has been dumped and made available to the public: https://archive.ph/yR9uQ The game is a varation of Qix about tiny monkey attempts to undress various girls by removing patches of the clothes. So do wii/gc games have faster load times if they're run off of a usb rather than a disk?
>>1084017 Yes, cause instant access times + higher 4k random reads there's probably a difference between a really crappy USB stick and a good external SSD as well.
>>1084017 >games have faster load times if they're run off of a usb rather than a disk That goes for about every platform except the PS2, which has USB 1.1.
>>1084030 >>1084041 Yeah? Like measurably faster?
>>1084093 Measurably yes, noticeably not really, we're talking about seconds saved over an hour of play, you'd have to check with speedrunners for exact numbers.
>>1084093 SD or USB for GC/Wii, doesn't really matter. Fact is that they're both faster than disks because the lasers that read the optical media are aging & getting more spotty. There's also disk rot.
>>1084017 >>1084315 >disk It'd be nice if either of you could spell.
>>1084325 Disc and disk are both correct spellings, though some style guides recommend disc for things like DVDs and disk for hard drives.

Keep in mind the people at GBAtemp are kinda dummies with kinda low standards so they tend to sometimes exagerate a little. For most basic titles and mainstream games, just stick to SoftGPU build and old GFX to run games smoothly with no stutter, some games tough still slow back to 35-40fps at certain parts even for simple 2D games sadly but it usually happens only to obscure titles.

Hello cute frens, I'll be getting an used DSi tomorrow and I'd like some help figuring out a few things: What should I do in order to test if everything is working well? I've made a small list already. - All buttons (is there an easy place to test them?) - SD Card slot (i don't have any sd card laying around so I'm pretty fucked with that) - Screens (duh) - Charging port (I asked him to charge it to 100%, that way I'll at least know it's still working enough to charge the device) - Both cameras (for the camera exploit) - Hinge (are there any telling signs that the hinge is going to break or if it feels fine then it's probably fine?) Am I missing anything essential? I also have a broken DSiXL from when I was a kid, everything other than the top screen should still work (I fucked the top screen ribbon cable during disassemble a long time ago, but that should be the only thing broken), do you guys know if most of the modular internals (like the sd card reader, or the wifi chip) are interchangeable between the normal and xl versions? I've also read the dsi.cfw.guide website, downloaded all the necessary things and bought a 64gb SDCard from amazon. The seller says it comes with an old (but working, he sent a video of the device) R4iTT but I'm planning to save everything in the SD card slot. Other than that I've been eyeing those aliexpress clear shells (like aliexpress.com/item/1005007260043401.html) , my biggest fear is cutting the top screen ribbon cable again when disassembling it. Are those still really low quality? I remember them having really bad fitting issues, requiring you to file excess plastic from the buttons and all that. And what do you guys think about my game/homebrew selection? I guess I'll use it as a music player with MoonShell too but I'd have to convert my 5k songs from opus to ogg, which is quite annoying. I'm not sure if there's any DSi music players that support opus.
>>1199767 >No SD Card laying around I don't have any microsds, but I do have an mSD to SD adapter. Is there any menu that would be able to show whether something was inserted in the SD slot or not? If there's one I could remove the mSD card from the R4 card and put it into my SD adapter just to check if the port is working or not.

With the opengx renderer it actually renders games at 480i which is interesting to see on a crt though a lot of effects and textures are still glitched. Ive also noticed that if you use the software renderer, if there's a game where you can't get a full framerate you can disable dithering and that seems to pretty much always get you up to 60. For some games like silent hill it looks pretty rough and I wouldn't recommend it but for something like ape escape I think its fine. Dithering alone seems to eat about 20-25 frames of headroom.

Hi thread. So, quick question, and the answer Is probably be no, but someone gave me this Wii console and the GC ports weren't accesible because the cover was stuck. Then I noticed it wasn't stuck, it was held with screws and wasn't meant to be open, because this is a Wii Family Edition (RVL-001). So I investigasted and learned that the optical drive doesn't take small discs, so it's only for Wii games, and that Made it cheaper because they saved money on GC conponents. But they left the holes! There are holes for two memory cards and four controles, and i can clearly see a plug for the things (pictured in the closeup), so my dumb question is, are there Game Cube components for sell somewhere? Like, no company makes just that piece of electronics? It's a dumb question because even if the answer is yes, it's probably more trouble than it's worth. I mean, even if they sell it on AliExpress for 20 dollars, I can probably find a fully functional Wii with GC compatibility for $20. But I still kinda wanna do it if possible, just out of frustration. Now I'mma mod the shit out of this one for Wii and emulators.
>>1492043 >Wii Family Edition (RVL-001) *RVL-101 >so my dumb question is, are there Game Cube components for sell somewhere? From what I have looked up, there doesn't seem to be anyone who sells the componets by themselves. >it's probably more trouble than it's worth. I mean, even if they sell it on AliExpress for 20 dollars, I can probably find a fully functional Wii with GC compatibility for $20. That's pretty much the reason. For the amount of time spent to solder off the componets from a dead Wii & transplanting them to the Family Edition Wii, you would be better off just getting a Wii with GC compatibility. >But I still kinda wanna do it if possible, just out of frustration. From what I also looked up, it is possible. Whether it's a simple soldering job of transplanting them to the PCB board & calling it a day or needing to do more than that, I can't say.
>>1492043 That has to be the ugliest Wii I've seen. Looks like a gym shower wall. Like ugly tiles on the wall of a public toilet, or even worse, the subway in Argentina, if you've ever been. Could you paint it a decent color first and then worry about about giving it extra functions? Which, by the way, you don't need because with Nintendont you have the GC games and emulated memory cards, and there are adaptersfor the controller if you really need a GC controller. >the optical drive doesn't take small discs I was wondering how much could they have saved by not including the GC parts, and I guess it's a few dollars per unit, but for sure the most important part must have been the drive. If they replaced the drive with a more standard one, that must have knocked down the price a lot. I understand frustration, I know it can be a great motivator (like hatred or pain) but I suggest you drop this one. It's not gonna read mini DVD even if you somehow give it GC ports. The magic was within you all along or something. Did you mid it already? If so, you must have already learned that you don't need to worry about no ports.
BadUpdate for the Xbox 360 just got an update that's supposed to increase the success rate & cut down on the time it takes to finish. Still not 100% like PS3HEN though
>>1646952 Nice.
>>1646952 haven't followed the current scene, but does this means no more RGH chip?
>>1648257 >does this means no more RGH chip? No, not quite. The one thing RGH has over Bad Update is the guarantee of your 360 booting to its homebrewed state at (relatively) lesser time since it's attached to your 360's board Bad Update may have a slightly better success rate and faster speed than its previous iteration, but it can still fail to load the exploit at some point and make you start all over again, and possibly still fail at other attempts too. When I have time, I can do 10 attempts at getting Bad Update to load and note how long each attempt took or if one of them failed to get an idea of what to expect. From what I've also read, it's possible to backup the 360 NAND with the Simple 360 NAND Flasher via Bad Update where the backup can be copied to the USB. However, I think you might encounter problems if you run your NAND through JRunner and install it to your 360 from the Bad Update method. I don't know if it's because the console is expecting the RGH wires/chip or if Bad Update messes up the NAND since the exploit involves bypassing the hypervisor. So it's not the end of RGH, but the writing is on the wall once Bad Update gets refined enough to have an even higher success rate and speed. Once that happens, expect 360 prices to increase unless it's the Pre-Falcon models that are prone to RROD or Slims that have dying EMMCs.
>>1646952 Whats the success rate now?
>>1648897 They say it's 80%, and the boot time cut down to about 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on luck. Meanwhile I'm trying to find an archive of the XBLA. I remember something I missed out on getting while the shop was around.

Hey fellas, been fiddling with Bad Update since the last update. Good shit. Only failed once after dozens of attempts. Just wondering, is there any safe way to get time-stamped achievements? I hear stuff about Proto and stealth servers to connect to Xlive but idk
Also, I'm trying to get OG Xbox games working but idk what I'm doing wrong. I pasted the Compatibilit y folder on the HddX partition and everything, but when booting, it just throws a very quick notice that I can't fully read (I think it just says the Xbox game I'm trying (Black) isn't compatible) then boots back to Aurora Again, using Bad Update. idk if I'm missing any steps.

Finally did some tests in how long it took for Bad Update to successfully load on my Jasper Xbox 360 via Rock Band Blitz. I doubt the model revisions make a difference in faster loading speed as I would assume the timing across all the 360s is the same. 10 attempts were done and I used a stopwatch to measure the time: 1 - 1:15 2 - 2:50 3 - FAILED (It was technically still running after 5 minutes and it maybe could've worked, but I wasn't going to wait longer than that) 4 - 1:50 5 - 1:00 6 - 0:45 7 - FAILED (The music stopped and the screen froze) 8 - 0:20 (Fastest time) 9 - 1:39 10 - 1:34 I never used older versions of Bad Update since they reportedly took longer to patch and had a lower success rate, but I think anon will be satisfied with those times reported. PS3 HEN, for reference, takes about less than 20 seconds to load. It's not at that point yet for the 360 so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed for more improvements. Game-wise, only Protect Me Knight didn't work because it said that it needed to connect to Xbox Live. The rest of them, however, do load and play. I'd like to make a note that Deathsmiles is one of those games that has multiple .xex files beyond default.xex which need patching. >>1659184 >I hear stuff about Proto and stealth servers to connect to Xlive but idk I don't think Proto is compatible with Bad Update yet, much like DashLaunch. IIRC, you need to have the Proto plugin added to your RGH console's DashLaunch scripts and Bad Update doesn't have that cause you can't install it to your console without it being bricked. >>1659475 >I'm trying to get OG Xbox games working but idk what I'm doing wrong. I pasted the Compatibility folder on the HddX partition and everything, but when booting, it just throws a very quick notice that I can't fully read (I think it just says the Xbox game I'm trying (Black) isn't compatible) then boots back to Aurora Haven't got to the point of testing OG Xbox games via Bad Update, but I have a feeling it might have to do with the version of xefu you're loading for that game. According to the console mod wiki here: https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox_360:Original_Xbox_Games_Compatibility_List Black is officially supported on xefu3.
>>1659616 I got it working a bit after I made that post. I was missing some files which I hadn't pasted yet. After playing for a bit, Black plays great. some FPS slowdowns, though, but I read also that some Xbox games are rendered at 720p on 360 so maybe that's why. >Protect Me Knight didn't work because it said that it needed to connect to Xbox Live Doesn't Aurora have a "Fake Live" option for those cases? Unless it needs a real Live connection in which case yeah it's not working yet I think
>>1649189 There needs to be a Deep Web/Dark Web equivalent for that to be hosted, such as on I2P

Just realized with Bad Update that one could use a USB HDD enclosure and have that HDD hold up to 2TB of games. More of a convenient option than RGH, but RGH would allow more than that via FatXplorer.
Whenever I fire up wii2600 to play some atari games my wii disconnects my wiimote and I'm stuck on the main menu. Long shot but can anyone help?
>>1660659 Before you run the homebrew channel, go to the wii's home menu and hold the sync button on your console for 15-30 seconds. That will erase previous wii remote connections from its memory. Sync your wii remote to the console again. Once paired, then load the homebrew channel and try running wii2600 again.
Any progress on getting the NSO Gamecube controller to work on PC? Specifically Dolphin. Bought it in anticipation of a workaround as I hear Nintendo disabled PC compatibility unlike the other NSO controllers (which I regret not getting now that I know this).
>>1660776 Wired USB connection might work. Otherwise just gonna have to wait. The old PowerA Gamecube controllers work though.
>>1660754 Thanks but it still doesn't work. As soon as wii2600 fires up the connection is just dropped. The wiimote lights don't even blink, they just shut off and thats it. If I try to sync while it's running it doesn't connect.

>>1660812 Does your remote have Wii MotionPlus? IIRC, there were some homebrew programs that it wasn't compatible with and I think I experienced that issue before where it just shut off and wouldn't interact with the console until it was restarted. Meanwhile, the non-Wii MotionPlus remotes operated fine. If you have another remote to try it on, it would be worth a look to see if you experience that same problem. >If I try to sync while it's running it doesn't connect. I don't think you can sync the remotes in any homebrew program, that's why I suggested the home menu earlier.
>>1660843 Update Downloaded wii2600 for myself and tested it with a Wii MotionPlus remote and it stayed on for me, so a remote having that upgrade doesn't seem to break anything. Try downloading wii2600 from this link I found on gbatemp where they were troubleshooting atari 2600 emulation with a Wii MotionPlus remote: https://www.mediafire.com/file/shfv49m5ma5l4ul/ Don't know if it's the same build as what you have, but it's worth a try
>>1660969 It worked! Thanks a lot anon. I don't know why they leave the version messed up for some people sitting around in the homebrew browser.
>>1659896 I haven't had to patch anything yet. Admiteddly though, I'm downloading stuff that I assume was already prepared for RGH/Homebrew loading
>>1261542 I know about tech demoscenes too. I honestly don't understand why they fizzled into such a niche beyond the 4-bit, 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit era, overall.

>>1668813 What did you use to back them up?
>>1668451 Myrient has a lot of content that is absent from NPS, but even that is still incomplete.

I plan on installing PEX version of Evilnat CFW 4.92.2 on my NTSC 4 port Phat PS3 sometime soon (the one with software-based PS2 backwards compatibility instead of hardware-based, and has a built-in 80 GB Hard Drive). I wonder if its possible to back up PS3 save and trophy data in ways that don't involve USB flash drives nor external HDDs? Stuff like Memory Sticks and SD cards.
>>1669299 For certain games, you download the eboot to your PSP, then extract the rom out of it with PSX2PSP, or in some cases you extract the bin and cue files. Then again I was only playing old roms and other games that are easy to back up and extract.
Another quick question. OG Xbox games had DLC. Is there any way to install and use those on a 360?
Alright, now I'm questioning as to whether I should use the CEX, PEX, or D-PEX versions of Evilnat CFW 4.94.2 on my Phat PS3. I already had it Jailbroken and installed with CFW once on a previous OFW version, via CEX. Besides naming, and the different colors of the XMB waves while booting up, what are the differences? Also, what is the difference between "PC USB" and "PS3 USB" in this context? I have gotten a little confused regarding them in recent months.
>>1674042 DEX >debug firmware similar to PS3 devkits. Unless you’re diving deep into PowerPC or CELL hardware-level work, you do not want it. PEX >hybrid firmware that adds some developer/debug features from DEX. Fine if you want to have a curious glance at dev features. CEX >standard retail firmware without developer/debug features. Since you're mostly using your PS3 for vidya games, you want this.

I managed to brick my Wii because I turned it off too early during the shutdown/restart process for the Windows NT homebrew program. The system was still running the OS at that point, and it hadn’t fully restarted back to the Homebrew Channel menu. By shutting it down prematurely, I interrupted the process and ended up with a permanent black screen regardless of the video cable being used. This happened even though Priiloader was already installed on my Wii. Lesson Learned: Always choose “Shut down the computer” (not “Restart”), wait for the message that it’s safe to power off, and only then should you turn off the console. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

>>1696938 >Is there no way to factory reset it? I can't go to the Option menu where I could select Format Wii System Memory. There's no access to the Wii home menu. There is a recovery mode, but you can only bring it up by having a Gamecube controller on hand, plugging said controller to port 4, disassembling the case so that you can press all 4 directions of the D-Pad at the same time together, and powering up the Wii. You'll know its in recovery mode when it displays the version number and region of your Wii console. By that point, you would insert the diagnostic disc and follow instructions to recover the console. Now if you removed the Diagnostic Disc Check on Priiloader, you could insert an exploitable Wii game like Smash Bros. Brawl with Smash Stack, or any other retail game and use the Bluebomb exploit where you set up the chain of attacks on a Linux machine. The former assumes you still have that exploited save file on your console, instead of deleting it when you're done with the softmod. I delete them, cause they take up space that could be used for channel Forwarders. Brawl alone takes up at least 128 blocks Unfortunately, I can't get to recovery mode despite pressing all 4 of the rubber pads of the d-pad. A penny or quarter should be big enough to hit all 4 directions when pressed down. Thus, my console will be difficult to salvage and may wind up being better as 'For parts' instead of wasting time in troubleshooting. >>1697687 >Nand backup? Not possible, even if I did manage to have a copy of the NAND saved somewhere. It's a bad brick that not even Bootmii can work with. For reference, here's the different kind of bricks: https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Brick#Identifying_a_brick Mine is very likely to be the Low Level Brick. And just to give an idea of how severe it is... >This is one of the most dangerous bricks, because not even BootMii can fix it. While boot0 is in ROM, boot1 is on the NAND and is SHA1 hashed in OTP. This means if boot1 is modified at all, the signature check will fail, and boot0 will refuse to boot. boot2 suffers in the same way, although its signature is checked via RSA signature verification instead of ROM, so this brick could also be caused by a corrupt boot2 signature, resulting in boot1 refusing to boot the system. No part of the official boot process allows recovery software to be booted, leaving the Wii in a bad state. Thus, I have to install the Infectus modchip to install the boot contents. Problem though is that nobody makes or sells that chip any more. I'll reiterate: Don't make the same mistakes I did. >inb4 why are you even running windows NT on the Wii, you faggot Multiple .img files can be mounted on the Wii, not so much with the Di.

Super late reporting, but I just learned six different FIFA games on the gamecube can be used as a softmod and boot up Swiss, the homebrew loader. There are more copies of those soccer games on the market, and they're cheaper than James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire ($15–$20) and Splinter Cell ($7–$15). They seem to get into Swiss faster with zero button pressing and in 15 seconds (according to a youtube video I watched of the demonstration.) For comparison, Agent Under Fire takes 30s & 4 buttons while Splinter Cell takes 37s and 1 button.

>>1698013 Did you at least manage to get any interesting games running through windows on it before it died?
>>1699231 I haven't tested any newer games since I last reported on it in the PC Hardware thread 2 months ago here >>1461561 The most interesting of the lot isn't a game, but the campaign editor for the original Starcraft. If there's a way of solving the video playback issue that causes the game to crash to the desktop, then Starcraft would be a must-have. (Though you won't be able to set up multiplayer matches cause the homebrew program doesn't have a network card to relay LAN connections with) I have yet to try Age of Empires on it, but word on the net is that it's supposed to run decently. Far as I'm concerned though, NT on the Wii only really works for Win 3.1x games cause for the many newer windows games that didn't work on it, the ones that did (like Deus Ex) ran very slow and choked. There's not a lot you can run with the machine only having 77MB of RAM, especially when you can't even solder in more RAM chips to get a better performance like you could on the OG Xbox. Even if RAM wasn't an issue, some games have checkers in them that expect you to be on a Pentium CPU or a later Service Pack that the PPC build of NT can't install. I did find the PPC version of wx86 by microsoft as an alternative to motorola's SoftWindows32 x86 emulation program that works the same way, but I can't vouch for it having better/worse compatibility yet. There's another Wii I can use for more of my windows NT mis-adventures. After what happened though to the last one, I'm gonna make sure that BootMii is installed with Priiloader, and make a note to only shut down the NT system instead of restarting it and going back to the homebrew menu.

While digging around for more x86 software to test on Windows NT 4.0 PowerPC for the Wii, I stumbled upon something interesting: NT4 Visual Update. This was a graphics mod released on a forum about 15 years ago (coincidentally on 9/11!). The original author overhauled most of NT 4.0’s icons and textures, giving the OS a facelift that looked more like Windows Vista (See pic 2 for their preview) instead of the default Windows 95 aesthetic it originally launched with back in 1996. The original download links were long since dead, but I luckily managed to track down a working download through archive.org. There was just one snag: the mod requires Service Pack 3, which the PowerPC build of NT 4.0 never received since it stopped getting updates after SP2. While x86 programs can technically run under Motorola SoftWindows 32, emulation only gets you so far before errors and compatibility quirks start appearing. From my testing, installing components like Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 seem to improve x86 program support on the machine, but those benefits also hit a ceiling since newer revisions often expect later Service Packs that PPC NT simply doesn’t have. Since the installer wouldn’t even run on the OS (and there weren’t any compatible binary editors for NT 4.0 PPC), I had to get creative. Using Resource Hacker, I manually ported the updated assets into NT 4.0 one by one. It was a tedious process, and some assets weren’t injected since NT 4.0 PPC SP2 was missing certain functions and callbacks. However, enough of them worked to bring the OS closer to that Vista look the mod was going for. Since NT 4.0 supports TrueColor, you can actually drop in most of the Windows Vista wallpapers and they’ll display with full color just fine, icons too. By setting the login background to pure black (0,0,0) in the registry editor and swapping out the default NT 4.0 boot graphic with a custom .BMP of your desired wallpaper in 640 x 480, also via a quick registry edit, the entire login process starts to feel much closer to the “Vista spirit.” Since Windows 7 is the sleeker, more beloved evolution of Vista, I swapped in a Windows 7 wallpaper for both the desktop and login screen. All of that being said, keep in mind this setup is not perfect. It’s more like a bunch of gum, duct tape, and spit holding the whole thing together. In spite of that, this still manages to pull off a convincing illusion and cozy vibe of the Aero era that newer OS's don't have. TL;DR >dug up an old NT4 to Vista skin pack (dead links, found it on archive.org) >needs SP3, which NT 4.0 PPC doesn’t have >manually hacked the assets in with Resource Hacker >used TrueColor + custom wallpapers, and cobbled together a fake “Vista/7” vibe. >it’s hacky, but it works and feels comfy This is compatible on the Gamecube and Wii U as they also have the Windows NT homebrew program. Pics 3-5 are by me.

A week ago i got my hands on a fat PS4 (not the launch model, the very first revision with physical buttons) through a coworker, dude unloaded it on me out of the blue because "i like games" and he thought i could fix it or at the very least use the spare parts on my own console (i don't own any). Pretty much the only game i've ever wanted to play on this, bloodborne, i already emulated months ago, but i figured i might as well get it up and running. It's in top shape, the power button was stuck because it was dropped, but you can literally pop the lid off the thing and push it with ease. I tossed one of the many spare SSDs i own on it, not before checking the firmware (6.02), and hacked it by literally just going to a website in the PS4's shitty browser and pressing two buttons.
