Dragon Age: The Veilguard/Bioware Thread Anonymous 06/19/2024 (Wed) 02:32:14 Id: 403eac No. 981786
I wanna talk about the new Dragon Age. It's uh... it looks rough. It's been 10 years since Inquisition but Bioware has finally revealed the next game. Featuring... prosthetics, SEA elves, black elves, & a cartoony Fortnite hero shooter looking aesthetic. Yay...
(18.55 MB 1280x720 wPL3eF9iUuhGSxtA.mp4)

>>981786 And for those who haven't seen it, here's the trailer. This is what they're using to sell you on this. Keep in mind, Dragon Age used to be considered dark fantasy.

>>981788 It's been 10 years and the ending still stings to this day. I get SW fans and the Last Jedi over how a property can fuck over the player.
>>981814 Even the sjws from places like NiggerERA hate ME3's shit ending.
>>981788 The reason ME3 botched the ending so hard was because normalgroids had to feel like they got a full ending no matter how they played. Steam achievement stats prove that normies don't do side content. If they tied the good ending to content from previous games or side quests in ME3 most normiecattle would skip it and all get a bad ending. Most people didn't really care about their choices impacting the ending. Even back then people only cared that the ending felt cinematic. It's not even a question of bad writing just laziness and mass appeal. If you need more proof of this look to the CoDifaction of combat as the games progressed. Also, Ashley is best girl. Fuck the aliens
The nigger above only spew shit from his mouth holy fuck, it's a bunch of shitty headcannon that is even painful to read, please shut the fuck up You disingenous buffoon
>>981822 I agree. Everyone knows Tali is best girl.
>>981786 It's like they saw that shitty DnD movie Honor Amongst Thieves and thought to themselves they could make a shittier version for Dragon AIDS
>>981832 Accurate assumption. The trailer doesn't portray the dire situation of the story. Instead it's painted like a comedic heist movie with quirky diverse characters.
>>981821 Fuck the aliens is right.
>>981847 The asari creep me out, i wanna lewd Tali instead.
(304.47 KB 480x360 Get out of my house.mp4)

>>981847 >including that ass ugly Shrek Asari from Andromeda
>>981821 First, you're wrong about how they fucked up the ending. The original ending was thrown out (Mass Effect devices builds up Dark Matter which destroys the universe so the reapers were created to destroy civilisations using ME devices) and it got re-written after part 2 turned it into a dude-bro shooter instead of an RPG thanks to the asian fuckface that didn't even know he could level up his characters. You're right about Ashley being best girl.
>Tali and Ashley enjoyers I really am stuck here. >>981788 Didn't they also use ideas from Star Control 2?

(45.57 KB 576x662 best boy.jpg)

>>981847 Why do people simp over the Asari they look fucking weird? This is a series where you have Quarians, Turians, and the Geth, don't go for tentacle heads.
>>981866 >they look fucking weird? I don't know what you're talking about. Everything about them except the head tentacles are human.
>>981786 Dragon age only had 1 mediocre game and that was the first one. DA was never good
>>981872 Says the faggot who probably likes BG3. How about get that dragon dildo out of your ass
>>981874 I literally didn't bother, like many of here actually did with that pozzed shit. Origins is the only good game. 2 onward is just a bad rpg riddled with faggotry and awful writing.
I always find it funny how /v/ seems split between people who are very gay and people who aggressively do not like gays. True Diversity
And on that note >>981866 >best boy.jpg >Legion >not Garrus
>>981882 I don't care who you fuck. If you like your asshole gaped or gape someone else's isn't a character trait and is only put in place to pander and as a sign of the mediocrity and banality plaguing the industry.
(102.11 KB 941x745 GPfE1IxXQAAFFB8.jpg)

>>981882 Also i'm pretty tired of pretending this people are anything but hiper sexual degenerates comprising a negligible, fringe part of society.
>>981884 Nintendo is shit Vols, do yar thang!
>>981882 /v/ is divided into two mindsets >A libertarian free-market type "leave me alone with my video games" mindset Which is good as it allows one to call out shitty practices without falling into the same traps as commies. Those people won't care if there are gays as long as it isn't forced down their throat. They are open minded enough to see the shitty pandering in games but also to realize that it's the motives of the people making the games that are the problems. You will rarely see anons cry out against otome games with gay shit because they realize that they are made for someone else, and that there isn't malicious intent in it. >The authoritarian gay-ass boot licking Which is bad because they are commies with a different coat of paint who don't really mind the fact that games are becoming propaganda tools, they are just angry that the propaganda isn't showing the bullshit they want to be propagated. They don't actually care about video games and are here by accident, they're just opposed to SJWs because they don't agree on what the propaganda is saying, not on the fact that propaganda exists. That's the difference. One side doesn't want video games to be used as tools of political shit-flinging no matter who holds the tool, another side is just angry that the tool isn't in their hand. >>981883 Garrus is geniuently one of my favourite characters in western RPGs. Obviously he isn't super deep or anything, but I always found him extremelly charming.
>>981889 Lolbert shit never works because, much like Gommunism, inevitably someone more ambitious gets to hog all the power for himself out of leniancy.
>>981890 I was talking about the mindset towards games and art in general, you don't have to be an actual free market libertarian to have a libertarian mindset towards games, it's just reminiscent of the mindset that free market libertarians have. And by that logic nothing really works. Also communism doesn't work for many more reasons than just "someone gets to hog all the power". It's a shit theory through and through. I don't think we should be arguing this because we're getting off-topic though.
>>981859 I kind of wish the reapers were just unexplained. Cool eldrtich machine monsters that we fight. Sovereign made them look exactly like that, he kept saying how their motives are impossible to understand for mortal races and that they simply exist. Then it turns out he was just lying. Both in the version you are talking about and in what we got. It's kind of lame.
>>981864 It's honestly a shame I couldn't kill both of the virmire survivors earlier than me3. They're almost as bad if not as bad as Jacob. At least Jacob doesn't backstab you after you canonically save his ass 4 times (Ashley) and 3 times with Kaiden in the trilogy. They're completely useless and do not deserve to become spectres. I hate them with a burning passion
>>981895 Were either appointed Spectres before or after the Reaper invasion of Earth? It seems like the case where someone got a promotion out of nowhere with Liara having a whole DLC dedicated to being the shadow broker.
(80.78 KB 555x530 geth hit.png)

>>981883 don't you shittalk my robro I'm a sucker for cute robots so I posted Legion, but Garrus is definitely up there. Not even sexual or anything, for me that would be Tali, he's just a cool character. Though I am kind of shocked Bioware didn't include him as MaleShep lover given how much controversy there was around Mass Effect having same-sex romances.
>>981890 Do you know anything about Libertarianism? If you're going to shit on something at least know what the fuck it's about. >>981883 Garrus is a bro.
(56.87 KB 864x768 GEg_plqWQAAI4Ax.jpg)

>>981866 Exotic twig space elves. >>981882 Even gay people can have standards & not want the Californian standard of fags shoved into their entertainment.
>>981864 Also the main plot point of Mass Effect 1 was lifted from SC2 >>981902 >Were either appointed Spectres before or after the Reaper invasion of Earth? It seems like the case where someone got a promotion out of nowhere I don't see why it matters if they were promoted before or after the reaper invasion, but yes they got promoted after the Udina incident if you encourage either of them to accept the invitation to become a spectre. I don't see how anyone can justify either of them becoming spectres after having their heads caved in
>>981919 >Even gay people can have standards & not want the Californian standard of fags shoved into their entertainment. The worst thing that happened to gays is the idea that gays are somehow a political movement and not a sexual preference.
>>981786 >>981787 The trailer that was shown was unrecognizable to me until the title was shown. It was really that bad. Then add in the fact it was chasing trends that even most normalfags were fucking tired of by now, and that they even managed to piss off the cultists that still thought Inquisition was good. Triple gAAAy is comically inept at this point.
(50.01 KB 485x213 Syreen.webp)

>>981925 I could see it happening if it was something like an emergency appointment as an anti-Reaper officer that Garrus and Tali (if you got her exiled from her fleet) had. >webm I recall one of the aliens had the same situation as the Krogan and I assume the Syreen was probably the basis for the Asari.
>>981919 >>981927 I know a lot of gay people who genuinely want pride banned out of sheer hatred for the rainbow crew being insufferable.
>>981978 Pride isn't a community of gay people, it's a political cult grifting off of gay people.
>>981978 >>981979 Both true.
Dragon Age always sucked. The setting was just a shitty generic dnd campaign, and took itself too seriously to be the fun kind of generic dnd campaign. The characters were faggots, and the gameplay was boring.
>>981927 The worst thing that happened to society is that homosexuality is a sexual preference and not a mental disorder.
>>982047 The setting is fine with a lot less bloat from DnD settings. Becoming more lighthearted is exactly what people hated about the writing for 2 & Inquisition.
>>982047 >The characters were faggots Sten was great. The only character I disliked and wasn't allowed to kill at some point was Oghren and I can forgive that.
(177.40 KB 640x480 hack.mp4)

>>982047 origins was good, fuck you
>>982109 >>982120 >>982126 Irrelevant, anything with elves, dwarves, and orcs in it is bog standard garbage and only has value in bring parodied. Even without that, the plot is generic shit.
>>982132 >anything with elves, dwarves, and orcs in it is bog standard garbage and only has value in bring parodied. GRRM, is that you? I thought you were working on Elden Ring DLC? Finish your books, you fat faggot, and stop being butthurt people like Tolkien more than your "realistic fantasy" of rape, incest, and dysentery.
>>982137 He's just a shitposter, I suggest you cease further engagement with him. >inb4 not an argument He hasn't provided any argument either, he just chose the most contrarian position possible to farm as many (You)s as he can. >but what if he actually believes it First of all, read his other post ITT, second of all, if he were honest he could have elaborated his position and act in good faith.

>>981893 >I kind of wish the reapers were just unexplained. Cool eldrtich machine monsters that we fight. Sovereign made them look exactly like that, he kept saying how their motives are impossible to understand for mortal races and that they simply exist. This. It's for this reason I don't like Karpyshyn's original idea for the Dark Energy ending either. While, yes, it's not as absolutely fucking retarded as the piece of shit Mac Walters and Casey Hudson came up with while being crunched by EA, it still has a lot of fundamental problems that would have made me find it unsatisfying as well. For one thing it was a green aesop, and I HATE green aesops. For another it leaned heavily into the "Humans are special" narrative, which I never cared for either. But, yes, most of all just like the awful ending we got it does something ME never needed to do: explain the Reapers. The Reapers from the get-go are heavily associated with eldritch themes that only get more pronounced as the player learns more and more about the madness and insanity they cause. Just like with other eldritch stories the fear and majesty is specifically in the unknowable. In addition, Mass Effect was never about the Reapers, but rather about the people and races and what they would do when faced with such a disaster. How would they change? How would you help them or not? Both Karpyshyn and Walters missed what actually mattered with Mass Effect and thought the most important thing was creating and providing a solution to a mystery box.
>>981883 Garrus and Wrex are my favourite team to bring along, fuck the bitches (except tali, tali a good girl).
>>982143 Wrex is good but overrated. I prefer Jack over him
>>982137 You say that as if ‘modern fantasy’ isn’t a mockery of Tolkien and every source he was inspired by. As though it is not on par with capeshit. Apparently, thinking you should make your own shit instead of ever-increasingly shitier rip-offs of other people’s stuff is being contrarian.
>>982138 People don’t argue on the internet to change minds, partially because that is impossible, they argue to argue. I’ve seen it countless times. Comment threads continuing for months with the most elaborate arguments you can think of, and neither side budges an inch. If you think anons are any better in this regard you need to lurk more. I think it keeps happening because people who are drawn to ‘debating’ in the first place always have fundamentally different axioms from one another which make any debate fruit. Perhaps everyone does.
<<982152 I love how, not only, did you not even deny that you are a shitposter, but also said that you argue shitpost for the sake of arguing shitposting. Debating is not to convince your opponent, but the audience, and since you do not care about anything, other than to argue shitpost, any further interaction is meaningless and I am sure most anons will agree with my assessment.
>>982140 I like the dark matter idea over anything with the magic space child. That was straight out of David Cage's playbook.
>>982168 >I like the dark matter idea over anything with the magic space child. That was straight out of David Cage's playbook. A cup of piss might be better than a cup of shit, but it's still a cup of piss.
>>982180 What's so bad about the horror of entropy further fueled by usage of mass effect relays? It goes hand in hand with the eldritch horror of the Reapers & what their mass galactic genocide.
>>982181 As I explained in my post: it's a shitty green aesop where humans are the magic chosen ones who are the most special in the galaxy and the Reapers are just hippie janitors. It's still bad. It's just not as bad.
>>982184 Humanity aren't the chosen ones in this scenario though. They're just leading the charge to fix this shit because Shepherd's human. In case you didn't notice, we're humans. Writing stories about humans is kinda a normal thing. Comparing Reapers to janitors is also stupid. That's like saying any predator is dumb because they control prey populations.
>>982185 No the dark energy plot specifically had the Reapers looking for the specific race with all the perfect qualities to make into a Reaper and that would be the one that would stop the big crunch and it was humans. At the end of his original plot, the choice would be to make Earth's population into a Reaper or to not do that and hope species working together could come up with something in the future.
>>982186 Still way way way better than 3 color coded choices of the same ending.
>>982188 As we keep circling back to, yes it is. I never once claimed dark energy was a worse ending than the slop we got that didn't even have a plot conflict that made sense. I said dark energy was still a bad ending. It's just not as bad. Would I have preferred it over what we got? Sure. But that's only in the context that I have this far worse thing to look at. If I had gotten to the end of ME3 in 2012 and it had been the dark energy plot, I still would have been disappointed. That's my point, ME didn't need a "though provoking" sci-fi ending. It needed an LotTR movie ending. You beat the bad guy. Everyone's happy. Lot of epilogues showing you the result of what you did. The soul of what people liked with ME was the characters and world building and races and stuff. In the end, the Reapers were just this massively powerful thing everyone had to cope with. They are not the kind of villain force that needs character building or motivation.
>>982189 I really don't see how it's thought provoking for humans to beat the space squids by not succumbing to them.
>>982190 As I said, dark energy plot was a green aesop. Very transparently. "What if we took the BS about cars ruining the planet and made it into the GALAXY." The decision at the end was basically if you'd be willing to make a massive choice killing lots of people to ensure the survival of more or if you were unwilling to do that in the hopes of finding a nebulous solution later. It's worth noting the DE plot was obviously pretty half baked, too, because it doesn't really make sense when you break it down. How is this one species on this one planet in this one galaxy supposed to prevent the universe-spanning big crunch? Why does mass effect stuff destroy the galaxy? It just does. The simple fact is no one at Bioware was all that good at making a big plot like that. Going with a simple story where the Reapers are simply unknowable horrors is way easier to write and would have played significantly more to the strength of their writers.
>>982191 Because humanity is bringing the galaxy together. Because science. These aren't hard questions to answer. You can have the Reapers still be unknowable while still wanting to prevent the collapse of reality by destroying any civilizations that advanced enough to cause the dark matter problem in the first place. I'm sorry the idea of hope sounds bad to you. Even though that's literally the same kind of overcoming evil that LotR is about. Which makes your complaint to how ME should be more like that more confusing.
>>982194 What...the fuck are you even talking about, anon? I think hope sounds bad? Where did you even get that? In my idea you'd still beat the reapers. I'm not sure why you're fighting so hard for "space inconvenient truth." Making the Reapers' origin be: "We have to stop space global warming because of the space cars" is not a good story.
>>982202 Because you're saying the Dark Matter story idea is bad for humanity overcoming the Reapers & bringing people together to find another solution. It is not a metaphor for "cars bad" like you keep saying. That's retarded. You're using your retarded theory to justify calling the dark matter story bad.
>>982206 Anon it's literally "space pollution is causing the end of the universe." It's not subtle. I have no problem with a human protagonist and humans leading the charge on galactic cooperation. I do have a problem with humans being the genetic chosen ones who's special bodies are the only ones who can stop the end of the universe. The dark energy plot is simply not good. Any plot explaining the Reapers isn't good. The most positive thing I can say about it is it's better than what we got, but since that bar is in the ground it's not hard to clear.
>>982188 No one is disagreeing with this anon, the argument is about the opportunity cost of having Reapers as simply eldritch entities. A plot about dark energy could potentialy be good, and there is nothing inherently wrong about it, but it would be better if the reapers were just unexplained.
>>982210 It's humanity using technology they don't understand that's gonna destroy the universe. It's not that deep. >>982216 But one does not ruin the other. We could've had the dark matter plot without the Reapers being diminished in their unknowable horror. Just knowing they were built doesn't mean they're any less mysterious. The problem is the star child & theoretically he wouldn't exist if the dark matter plot was stuck with.
>>982210 >Any plot explaining the Reapers isn't good. This. The moment you show the monster, is the moment it stops being threatening and becomes just an obstacle for the protagonists to overcome. Fear of the unknown is one of the most primal human instincts, and you'd think that anybody looking to write horror or threatening antagonists would realize this. The audience CRAVES more lore on the main enemies - but as soon as you give it to them, you defang the threat. You have to resist that urge and keep the threat inscrutable - so that every victory against it is a pyrrhic victory at best - and only ever a means of temporarily buying yourself a bit of breathing room.
>>982145 I like jack too honestly, seeing her turn to a decent human being was very pleasing.
>>982120 Why Sten? That's one of the worst characters bioware made. To me, it looked like some writer there was really proud of his qunary lore, but there was absolutely no place for it in the game and no relation to any of the ongoing plot lines. It would've been sensible to keep it out, at most put small bits into in-universe books or offhand "news from the other provinces" like TES, but DA clearly lacked a competent lead to tardwrangle so we got this walking exposition terminal whose only purpose is tell you all about his super special people in every dialogue.
Since this is a bioware thread, what's your favorite squadmate and why? Also, what's your least favorite game and why?
(412.59 KB 800x600 hk racism.png)

>>982363 No contest.
(1.34 MB 800x533 wrex.gif)

>>982363 Easy.
>>982363 >favorite squadmate <HK-47 Obvious. <Morrigan Useful class and at least a little character. Not good, but still not as bland as the rest of the cast. <Garrus Is a bro and acts professional. >least favorite game DA2 sucked so much it's unbelievable.
>>982363 There's a reason I take Wrex and Grunt into the Armax Arena in the Citadel DLC. They're the only ones to actually survive Shepard vs Shepard fight.
>>982363 HK-47 is great but Garrus was my first video game crush.
>>982420 >I don't like organics! Except for daddy, tee-hee What a dork lmao. >>981889 >>981907 >>982143 >>982378 Garrus is excellent. A cool alien bro, he's not a particularly complex character but he's executed excellently. >>982420 Did you want to do calibrations with him?
(191.21 KB 1280x720 Damn whore.mp4)

>>982047 >>982126 Origins is mediocre. It was the last non-shit Bioware game, but it's still only a 7/10. The setting was bland, the companions were bland with the exceptions of Morrigan, Shale and maybe Sten, and the story felt like an afterthought because 95% of the game has nothing to do with your actual goal. We've got to stop the blight, but first we have to single-handedly solve every other problem in Ferelden. And then we just stop the blight in one battle like it's nothing. The whole game should have been the campaign against the darkspawn. >>982361 That's kind of a problem with Origins in general. They've got this whole world they've designed with all this interesting stuff in it, and then they set their game in the most dull part of that world. Generic fantasy Europe land. They were probably afraid normafags would be scared off if it was too weird.
>>982426 Dont talk shit about Revan's favourite son.
(440.55 KB 445x640 Garrus.png)

>>982363 Garrus obviously, I'm just a sucker for Chaotic Good characters.
>>982363 As far as favorite I'd have to say HK-47 hands-down (like there was any other choice?) but I would also be remiss to not mention that Bastila is my favorite romance in any Bioware game. Simple and corny but the fact that you have dialogue options to tease her through the entire game is just fantastic. >least favorite game I'd have to say ME2 since I stayed the fuck away from ME3, Andomeda and every DA game past the first.
>>982378 >DA2 sucked so much it's unbelievable. My recent unpopular opinion is I actually think Inquisition is worse than 2.
>>982573 >this piece of shit is worse than this other piece of shit Say it isn't so!
>>982573 Inquisition does a lot better than 2 but it's also when Bioware really started laying it on thick with the woke shit. Full on outwardly gay bisexual characters. A literal tranny who contradicts the established behavior of Qunari culture with how Iron Bull accepts & encourages her. Expect it to be even worse in Veilguard.
>>982573 2 didn't full on break the lore or be sjw so I'll give it that.
>>982575 >Inquisition does a lot better than 2 Open world slop that takes over a hundred hours is worse than 20 hours with copy pasted dungeons. So much of DAI is just empty MMO shit. I also think, while DA2's party is pretty bad, Inquisition's is worse.
>>982578 >2 didn't was sjw It was the foundation for it
>>982578 Nigger you don't remember the whole Anders debacle where you couldn't reject him as male Hawke without losing rep with him? The devs and journos all started calling people homophobes for complaining about it. As for lore-breaking, I recall a few sidequests doing just that, but I haven't played the game in years so I might be misremembering. Although you could say the mage leader turning into a harvester is lore-breaking though.
>>982585 Heavily disagree. A tedious but unique open zone world system is better than the same repetitive zones for every mission. >>982624 The mage leader still going crazy even if you side with the mages is supposedly something to do with the shitty development. Something like they wanted to make an alternative scenario in that route but didn't have time.
>>982638 Oh I agree, but I was talking specifically about him turning into the final boss of one of Origin's DLC. IIRC, it was some unique dwarven mess that lead to it so it makes no sense the mage just turned into it, but since everything is reused in that game 1000 times why wouldn't they use the model. At the end of the day, the only good thing about DA2 was how much you could break the game with the rogue and 2H warrior pre-nerf. Only bad thing about the warrior was being trash at the final boss of Act 1, but after that you can gib every enemy until the end of the game.
>>982640 Something something it's blood magic I ain't gotta explain shit. But yeah it's just cheap asset reuse.
(1.56 MB 1468x1467 1682040769474111.jpg)

>>982363 I really like garrus. My least favorite game would have to be ME1. ME1s story is a totally contrived and a poor setup for the rest of the trilogy. The whole reason why anyone discovered the existence of the reapers is because of Sovereign making itself known, and attempting to blow up an entire colony. The biggest issue to me is the writing around the citadel though. Why would the reapers need the keepers to activate the citadel? Why couldn't it just wirelessly activate the mass relay directly instead of through another medium? Convoluted much? Furthermore, why did the reapers design the citadel to be the heart of galactic civilization and not give it the ability to indoctrinate the people it's hosting? Another problem I find with the plot is that it's constant not so subtle foreshaddowing. There was no point to the talk with vigil because we already had that information and it gave us no hint on how to actually stop the reapers; instead of the prothean VI being a potential grand reveal it was a grand dud that only stalled us from chasing Saren. The world building is average at best. The interesting codex's is the primary reason of why it isn't even worse than that. There are far too many copy pasted environments in this game for the world building to be good from a graphical standpoint and the fact that we got totally irrelevant backwater hubworlds (besides the Citadel, the only hubworld actually worth it) just made this game a total disappointment. What else that was disappointing? That being a spectre doesn't even matter outside of the Citadel itself. What's the point of having spectre status if it barely counts for anything?
>>982446 That, or they got caught up in their own fantasies about the world at large and forgot to flesh out the one place that mattered. Ferelden still could have something interesting about it, there was potential with noble intrigues or chantry doing anything. >>981787 >Dragon Age used to be considered dark fantasy. It was never that dark, but a step away from the usual BioWare for sure. That trailer look like a shitty action flick from the late nineties. Fucking dammit.
>>983255 Just the Qunari lady alone is all wrong. Just the most obnoxious tumblr fanfic character. Qunari literally enslave & mutilate mages. Sometimes making them kill them themselves. Transforming the women in brood mothers. Then there's children who can straight up die or get possessed by demons. And more rape. The tone of the first game didn't hold back.
>>983266 Well, the Spider lady from Cloakwood, the Cult of Bhaal, the Drows, the Mind Flayers and the demons aren't exactly angels by comparison. I suppose Dragon Age made it a bit more visual, rather that 'just lore'.
>>983266 >They breed by raping kidnapped women & feeding them the their loved ones. I notice every game after the first one has never shown a brood mother again nor mentioned them to my knowledge. I feel like the people in charge now are mad things like that exist and want to ignore it forever.
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=R0VnYLE0uyY On the bright side, it actually doesn't look like that in game. On the shitty side, it doesn't look like dark fantasy, you can't use Blood magic, it's more of an action focused hack and slash instead of an rpg, and you can't switch between squadmates to control them directly anymore. I truly doubt (since you can't even use blood magic) that any dialogue decisions are going to have any real impact on the story. I bet the fade is going to look like crap too

I'm about 24 hours in kotor and while I can say I enjoy it more than ME1, I don't think it holds a candle to ME2 or the original star wars battlefront for that matter. Leveling up is a boring grind, the characters banter starts to slow down after a while, and the recycled alien speech really is starting to get annoying at this point. The main story and most of the side quests has pretty much been a bunch of fetch quests. If I had to describe the combat as anything, it feels like a clunkier version of dao. Now I have heard the obsidian did a better job with kotor 2 and I am going to beat kotor, I'm probably never playing kotor 1 again
Its been 13 years and I am still waiting for the dragon age origins sequel, what happened to dragon age bros, am I blind or something
>>985897 EA and the woke left ruined it
>>985887 Kotor 1 is extremely basic and really only succeeded because consoles hadn't had many games like that at that point. Kotor 2 is indeed much more thematically interesting but it's an incomplete mess. The restoration patch doesn't really fill the hole in it's entirety. It's better than vanilla, but it's still weird and fragmented. It's a shame the true restoration patch from Team Gizka fell apart and all that was left was a bunch of disparate shit that only worked so well.
>>985887 I could not get myself to finish KOTOR, I think I dropped it at some point on the Sith planet. It was just a boring game, the combat was slow and simplistic, and the characters were not interesting either. The Star Wars theme just wasn't able to carry it for me. I just watched the rest of the cutscenes on YouTube and that was it.
>>985887 >or the original star wars battlefront for that matter. >comparing a fucking RPG of all things to a thrid person shooter Anon, are you retarded. >>985910 Kotor is pretty basic, yes, but that is the point, its an entry point for RPGs, that was the entire point, it was meant for teens. And even then it manages to have one of the coolest stories of all of star wars, wich is pretty sad.
>>985918 >Anon, are you retarded No I'm not. I think it's more than fair to compare 2 games based on the same series. I base it on it being a more enjoyable game. KOTOR also has the most lazily slapped together level designs and skyboxes. I've never seen skyboxes as hideous as the ones in KOTOR. And that I believe has to do with laziness and not "muh system requierments" see >it was meant for teens. And so was battlefront classic.
>>985924 Anon, now im convinced youre being dense on porpouse. No, you cannot compare the two, atleast not in the way youre going about it, they are entirely different genres.
>>985926 Both are scifi and both are star wars. I can compare
>>985928 Sure, compare Kotor and F-Zero next because of the swoop bike minigame.
>>985928 NTA, it's ok to say that you find one game more entertaining than the other, but to say that one doesn't "hold a candle" to the other when they are different genres is kinda retarded. It's like saying that Super Mario Kart doesn't hold a candle to Super Mario World or Super Mario RPG, or in other words comparing apples to oranges even thought they are both fruit.
>>985929 I mean both are on rails
>>985917 I disagree. Your squad is basically the only thing interesting about the story (I honestly could care less about Mission though). I personally don't think ME3 deserves all the hate it gets or deserves to be EAs "baby" or whatever. Saying this, they obviously did have a hand in the series. Especially when it came to thermal clips (which was proven to actually have fun gameplay, the Particle Rifle, collector sniper rifle, and M7 lancer being proof of concept) and the forcible inclusion of 2 gay characters in the third game. The main problem with the series was lack of proper planning stemming all the way back to ME1 sovereign fight, the game basically setup ME3 having to create a super weapon against the reapers, ME3s ending was fucked from the get go. The main story of ME3 is a classic bioware formula though, unite as many people as you can against a common foe, the same exact formula DAO had, a giant recruitment mission. Can someone please explain to me how the ending of ME3 could have shaped up any differently if Bioware just cast aside all the writing they did with the characters and world building and focused on the main plot ME2 instead??? Bioware promised the player base to have multiple endings to ME3, and I just don't see how it would have been possible without an RGB asspull of an ending, or them going back on their promise and making it a one ending game, which would have made far more sense in the first place. Having the crucible having only 1 function would have made the most sense as a conclusion the the trilogy, as if the races of the previous cycles would actually waste their time creating something unnecessarily complicated and not just have a single plan to wipe out the reapers. What would have probably ended up as the best ending is if the crucible sent out a signal to every reaper in the galaxy to be put into a hibernation state (what they use in dark space), thus destroying/deactivating all of them without having to sacrifice the geth or technology trillions are depending upon in the process, magically synergizing all organic life to be synthetic, or somehow controlling them despite them being "unknowable" as setup in the first game.
>>990102 >personally don't think ME3 deserves all the hate it gets It absolutely fucking does as it's a total disaster even disregarding the endings.
>>990105 How was it a total disaster disregarding the endings? It wrapped up many major plot points in the trilogy with satisfying outcomes. The Krogan's genophage and the conflict between the quarians and the geth being the most satisfying. Even a lot of the minor choices from previous games had consequences in the 3rd game despite having a development cycle of just 2 years. Despite the short development cycle, it also still did have the most satisfying combat and rpg mechanics out of the entire trilogy. ME1 is a worse rpg than ME3 and I don't give a fuck about all the extra worthless skills that ME1 had to offer. There is no reason not to have (2nd pic related) have first aid, medicine, and medic as one category. Neither is there any point to splitting paragon and renegade to have their own seperate categories or decryption and electronics as one category either. It's just dumb design decisions and besides, bioware pretty much was always mediocre when it came to rpg mechanics. The only time they did a really good job was when they created DAO.
>>990110 Fun fact: if you trimmed down the skills to how it really SHOULD be categorized, ME1 would have less skills to sink into than ME3 and yet somehow ME3 is less of an rpg than ME1, RIGHT. All you get out of ME1s rpg is a bloated rpg system and a shitty looter shooter with a shitty inventory system. There is also no reason not to just use a single weapon the entire game because conflicts are almost never long enough to worry about weapon overheating. The best thing ME1 did was it's world building via lore dumps in the codex, the world building graphically was shit the entire game besides the final mission and vermire. It was never the shitty reaper plot point that ruined the ending of ME3
>>990110 ME1 and ME2 are actual RPGs where ME3 took so much away that It was just a TPS.
Its only americans and brainwashed western europeans who push and celebrate niggers and fags in video games, its getting ridiculous, cripples now too? They just wanna show it to those evil Nazis, man
>>990128 Minus the heavy weapons in ME2, ME3 added a lot more than it took away. Especially where the combat is concerned ME3 has far more abilities than ME1. Expanding the actual rpg aspect of the game other than crappy incremental passive. It had more than both ME1 and ME2. Also whether you are a soldier, biotic, or a tech specialist it actually does affect the story unlike the first 2 games (albiet in a minor way, but still): https://youtu.be/D0SqzRb0E1Q?si=tJRDUXgsvie0aFeC https://youtu.be/RTIzpQgrxLU?si=Q4tzo5t10mpqu26A https://youtu.be/OrF2HI77K6M?si=3MhzsfQVffHNOQnx
>>990213 I replayed ME3 recently and it's really shallow in comparison in terms of Side quests, character dialogue and soul to the other two. Shooting wise it's the best Mass Effect has ever been.
(106.10 KB 1280x720 maxresdefault.jpg)

>>990346 >it's really shallow in comparison in terms of Side quests Depends on what side quests. Leviathan, Citadel dlc, and Omega dlc trumps anything put out from ME1. >character dialogue and soul to the other two Yeah, it's pretty limited compared to the first two games but it does make up for it a bit in the large decisions in the game. It definitely does lack soul as well. Half the squad (other than garrus, tali, and liara) were all fucking dog shit. EDI forcibly being apart of the squad, Javik (obvious nigger VA with a shitty voice changer, destroying all the immersion), and the mexican character voice acted by someone most known for his performance in scooby fucking doo. A real fucking shame we couldn't have replaced at least Javik and James with some of the even lesser ME2 squad. The only person I wouldn't have taken over James is Jacob and I would also rather have Jacob than Javik. Fuck Javik. If it was just the voice acting I had a problem with, I wouldn't feel this way about him. He's just an unlikable poorly written asshole who constantly acts superior to everyone else despite losing the war and being the dumbest person on the entire ship. No-no Javik, YOU should get thrown out of the airlock. I also felt that Femsheps voice acting got even worse in this entry compared to 1 and 2. Her voice acting is as grating as ever. She obviously tried way too hard to sound like a tomboy and frankly other than a few good moments, her performance falls flat and sounds like a chain smoker. Even in 2 her performance wasn't that good, she was obviously trying to emulate what Mark Meer was doing. Every sentence ends in a lengthy exhale with little to no emotion. Whereas broshep sounds like a badass action hero which this game should have

>>990632 I'm not excusing any of ME3s major flaws. It's major flaws are as follows (in order) 1) your squad, 2) the lack of player choice, and 3) the ending. If anything you are the one making excuses by bringing up that ME1 came out in 2007, as if that has anything to do with it. There are too many 3rd person shooters all the way back to 2000 that had better mechanics than this game for it to be "07 jank". I'm still not seeing you dispute anything he said, probably because you can't and you know he's right
>>990639 I've not once defended Mass effect 1 here you've been putting words in people's mouths.
>>990346 > character dialogue and soul to the other two Gonna have to disagree with this one. The "character dialogue" part especially. I also recently did a trilogy replay and I was shocked how little party members talked during missions in ME2 if it wasn't their specific mission. Granted, ME1 was way worse, but I remembered the ME2 party being a lot more present in the missions and that simply isn't the case. In ME3 the party members not only are extremely talkative on missions, but each party member tends to have fairly unique reactions to each circumstance, whereas in ME1 and ME2 every party member said more or less the same thing, down to party members outright changing their moral stances on issues depending on what other party member was there just so both options would be argued for. ME3 also does a much better job with the Normandy having way more dialogue with the party members as well as banter with each other, which was extremely rare in the previous two games. You have a bit more of a point on side content. It sucks there's no hub like Omega or Illium where your party members follow you around. But it's not like the majority of 2's side content isn't extremely basic boring stuff anyway.

Commander Shepard had absolutely no authority determining what the alliance navy did. Captain Shepard did not have the authority to make that decision which is further evidence that they did not, in fact, have the series properly planned out and setup the rest of the series. The fact that Shepard didn't have the authority is established in the very beginning of the game too, so don't you dare try to say that the ending choices didn't make sense and weren't shoehorned in there because they had no idea of how to make your previous decisions have an impact on the end of the game. And then there's Saren (an unskippable "boss" fight despite the dialogue choices where you can convince him to blow his own brains out). Not to mention that he's just a reskinned Geth Ghost with more hp. Once you destroy Saren, Sovereign magically powers down despite him controlling the geth, husks, and Krogan Battlemasters. >Read through entire thread and see the final mess of posts What the actual fuck happened here?
>>981786 I have noticed a pattern in Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR and Dragon Age Origins: each of these games follows the same structure. > Opening act You get slowly introduced into the world and are on a mostly linear quest > Open-ended part You are presented with a certain number of fixed locations you can go to. Each location is completely divorced from the rest of the world and has you be the errand boy for some random shit > Closing act Once you have solved the individual problems and gotten the plot items it's time to actually progress the real plot. Is this the case in other modern Bioware games as well? I don't recall the Baldur's Gate games being this blatant about it. With BG1 the world was completely open-ended, there was a specific location you had to travel to in order to advance the plot, but you could go there immediately if you wanted to, there was no "do the north, south, east and west areas first". BG2 was a bit more like that, but even there you did not technically have to do any of those area quests, you just had to cough up enough money to proceed. It just happened that doing area quests was the best way to get the money together. And even then there was plenty to do in the central region of the game. Neverwinter Nights was the worst offender in that regard. Because the game's level design was laid out on a literal square grid it was very obvious that you had to go north, east, west and south and then return back to the center. I think I made it to the third act before I finally dropped the game. I could not get myself to finish KOTOR either, but that's mostly because the gameplay was just boring. With Dragon Age I lost my save file, so there's that. Yeah, looking back, the only Bioware games I actually beat were the Baldur's Gate games.

I haven't played NWN and I don't remember DA:O at all, so maybe they don't have it, but there's also the interruption of a crisis and the loss of your personnel after the second-last destination on the checklist. KotOR has the Leviathan intercept your ship, where you inconclusively fight Malak and Bastila is captured. ME1 has Virmire, where you inconclusively fight Saren and sacrifice Kaiden or Ashley. ME2 has the Collectors intercept your ship, where your entire crew except the squadmates is captured.

>>991369 Which is exactly the reason I fucking hate retards who say bioware wasn't bioware anymore after they made ME2 just because EA funded and published it. All the classic tropes and patterns were there and you are retarded for thinking otherwise. The main story was never the best thing about a bioware game, it is the world building and characters within them that make the games interesting. KOTOR with it's middling rpg system and boring lackluster main plot is proof that I am right. Without the world building and characters it would have never have become a cult classic
>>991443 Most of the writers were still the same at that time. Bioware didn't start bleeding the original people until after ME3. DAI had a pretty massive exodus of everyone who had been at company during it's development and basically everything from then on is true zombie Bioware.

>>981786 Looks like they have also removed player-control over party members too. https://archive.is/Kjnq5 >“[Veilguard] is a much higher actions-per-minute game. It is more technically demanding on the player.” Technically demanding is not automatically negative. But if your testers think your game is too exhausting to play, that is your fault. Find ways to make it less demanding on the player. This is why the pause function exists, as well as the ability to control how your companions' AI functions. >“So when we tried allowing you full control of your companions as well, what we’ve found is it wasn’t actually adding to the experience. In fact, in some ways it was detrimental, given the demanding nature of just controlling your own character.” Again, if controlling your party members in an RPG is tedious or detrimental to the player's experience, that is your fault for being ignorant game designers. There is nothing wrong with the concept itself. >"...But in our testing and validating with players, what we find is they’re more engaged than ever.” So giving the player less control over his party and giving him fewer opportunities to experience their combative might firsthand is supposed to make you more engaged with your closest companions? Sounds like the team couldn't figure out how to make it work and just made all these excuses up for the press.

>>999183 True, it does seem that at some point in development they had someone on the team that had at least a vague idea of how important player choice was to an RPG. I have a feeling the team behind Veilguard is simply much less capable than the one behind BG3. So much so that they can't figure out how to program seamless swapping between party members, something that was figured out at least a decade and a half ago. Too bad players of BG3 don't have enough agency to deny a campfire make out session from another male character after saying his cloak looks stylish, though.
>>999226 >make out session from another male character after saying his cloak looks stylish, though. Well you simply don't tell him how dashing he looks, or just say "no way fag" when they approach you. You do have the choice of rejecting all romance in the game without getting negative affection from any of your party members. You can even kill them if you want.

>>1001924 Her hairstyle and clothes are so different now, you can barely tell its her. Looks like there has been an official release date announced: October 31st, 2024 . Pre-orders are also open. The game will be $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. They've also shown a bunch of the expected pre-order bonuses and exclusive cosmetics. You can even pre-order a bundle of physical items and collectables for $150.00. Which, of course, does not include the actual video game. They even have different editions for the game's art book. https://archive.is/en1vZ
>>1002037 >The game will be $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Is there a stated reason for this price difference between platforms?
>>1002039 There doesn't seem to be any stated reason. On their official EA blog page (which is what I linked), they only mention the prices and not any specific details about why they are different. >"Fans who pre-order the Standard Edition of Dragon Age: The Veilguard for $69.99 USD on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, or $59.99 USD on PC via Steam, EA App and Epic Games Store will receive cosmetic Blood Dragon Armor sets for Warrior, Mage and Rogue classes." It seems like overall, the PC editions will cost $10.00 less than the console versions. For example, when outlining the details of the Deluxe Edition, it says >"PC: $79.99 USD | Console: $89.99 USD"
>>1002039 >>1002042 I'm surprised as I haven't seen this for a long time. PC games used to cost less then console games back way then.
>>1002039 >Is there a stated reason for this price difference between platforms? I thought the $10 difference usually boiled down to publishers having to pay royalties to console manufacturers, on top of distribution, whereas on Steam there are no royalties - you only have to pay the 30% standard distribution cut.
>>1002042 If it's for both consoles, it sounds to me that they are trying to make some of the money back for the hard copies they are going to be selling
>>1002278 >>1002433 Even if there are legitimate reasons for why on PC it would be cheaper to release, or that it's cheaper to release something digitally rather than physically, this hasn't stopped publishers and developers from releasing digital games on PC at the same price as a physical game on console, at least on release date. I can't remember if there has ever been a AAA game released in the last 10-15 years that didn't have the same price on PC as it did on console on day one, assuming it got released on both platforms at the same time. Also we are talking about EA here, so this isn't about them having a heart and correctly pricing games for PC, this is why it's so baffling for me. Sure, it's good for the consumer, I guess, but why is EA pulling such a move, what are they thinking?

>>1005718 I was liking DA:O last year until my HDD crashed.
>>1005721 Although I should probably clarify: that was with a ton of tiddy mods installed.
>>1005718 I think it's safely worth a pirate (make sure to pirate the GoG version because getting dlc working on the steam version is a nightmare). It has some 7th gen jank but overall it's a fun ride. But yeah like >>1005722 says you might want some mods.
>>1005718 DAO is a product of it's time, for good and bad. It's a solid RPG though. DA2 had a rushed development and isn't worth playing and Inquisition is a singleplayer RPG and all the soul grinding that entails.
>>1005718 It's one of the best RPGs ever made.
>>1005740 >and Inquisition is a singleplayer RPG You mean a single-player MMO.
>>1005718 It's regarded as the best game in the series. One of the most interesting things is that what happens during the first few hours of gameplay depends on the race and background you choose for your player character. So effectively, there are 6 different ways to play the opening chapter of the game. If you want the game to function as close to intended as possible, you will want to download specific mods, though. And even then you can still run into game altering bugs. Some of the bugs affect story choices and character dialogue, which is an integral part of the game. iirc, there is a bug in one of the DLCs that if you have your game at a certain resolution, a required boss fight will glitch out and be stuck, forcing you to reload a save and play the boss fight a certain way to avoid getting stuck over and over. Some of the DLC is lackluster, but that's a bit more up to individual opinion.
>>1005718 I think it's very similar to Baldur's Gate 3, a decent, maybe even good game that came out during an RPG drought and thus was elevated to the status of one of the best RPGs of all time, though I will say that DA:O has better companions than BG3. Is it worth a playthrough sure, you might actually like it. Now some anons have recommended mods, and if you look through a list of recommended mods, one of them will surely be on most lists, the "Skip the Fade" mod. As this is your first time playing the game, I don't recommend getting this mod, though I guess I should also explain why this mod is so popular. So in one of the dungeons, you will encounter a Sloth Demon that will put your party to sleep(this is unavoidable and mandatory), you will then enter a dream world of sorts and get to transform into different creatures to solve puzzles and fight enemies. You also get to visit the dreams of your companions to get a better sense of who they are(some of them realizing that they are in a dream world). The fact that you get to transform into other creatures from the game, gives a nice change of pace to the gameplay and it's somewhat fun the first time around. The problem, is when you do a repeat playthough and realize that it's very linear(no choices to be made), too long, too slow, it's basically filler, you wish you could skip it, and I agree. For repeat playthroughs, yeah install the mod, but if it's your first time playing then you will probably enjoy the filler content.
>>1005920 >the "Skip the Fade" mod For the record the Skip the Fade mod STILL has you visit your party members' dreams. There's just none of the filler shit in between. With the mod it goes: PC's initial nightmare -> All party member nightmares -> fight sloth demon. So with the mod you still get the full story context of the sequence, just without the shitty boring bits in between. It's fine if you think someone should experience it once, but it's garbage on repeat playthroughs.

>>1010131 Bold of you to assume it will be made. I expect Veilguard to under-perform and for EA to kill Bioware.
>>1011670 The fact EA didn't kill Bioware after Anthem is what gets me.
>>1011672 The game industry wasn't in as dire straits then as it is now. The covid era brought lots and lots of free money to game companies that they thought would last forever. During that time Bioware was probably plunking away at the game and now it's a case of sunk-cost fallacy. So they'll let them have one chance. It'll bomb and then Bioware will finally die. Well, more like the rotting zombie that calls itself Bioware will die. The actual Bioware has been dead a long time.
>>1011670 I have heard similar talks right before Anthen got released, yet they haven't been killed. Personally, I believe EA is interested in having a foot in the RPG market, and since Bioware is their only RPG studio, they keep them, just so they can release an EA RPG from time to time. From EA's point of view Bioware is just EA RPG, the same way they have EA Sports, but rebranding the studio would bring bad PR and attention, so they just keep the name as a facade, and put in or pull out devs as they see fit. Let's be real this isn't the same Bioware that was 10 years ago, let alone 20 years ago, it's just a name used by EA to release RPGs.

>>1016203 You're talking about Medicalist Troons (aka Truscum). Medicalists seem to have legitimate body dysmorphia issues and understand that they are just men with broken brains - but try to dress and act the way they do, even undergoing surgery in extreme cases, as a coping mechanism. They will probably get angry with you if you try to bully them for being trans, but they tend to know what they are and what they appear to be to other people, and aren't going to get upset if you deadname or misgender or joke about it. They're vastly more likely to recognize that there are only two genders. This is like - .02% of the population of troons, and even less so in the general population. For nearly all intents and purposes - they don't really exist. Tucutes, I think they call themselves, are not trying to be women. They are trying to be trans, and they do it not because of a dysmorphia - but because in the current political climate it gives them validation, sexual gratification, and power. They don't see it as a medical condition, but a lifestyle to be promoted and celebrated. In decades past, these people would have also been called "GenderPunk", but were far less anal about whether or not you accepted it or called them out on it. The reaction from the squares was the point. They are now the overwhelming majority of troons and have won the cultural argument within their own little sub-community. They now control the transgender niche in their little sub-communities. In terms of video games, I can't say I've seen any study or decent survey, but just from what I've seen - a transmedicalist will pick both male and female characters depending on stats, looks, story logic, etc. They probably wouldn't "identify" with the character on screen. A tucute will not want to pick either male or female characters, and will insist on a non-binary option because they absolutely DO need to see their identity reflected back at them through culture to feel validated. Funny how the trannies with certifiably broken brains are still somehow less mental than the vast majority of trannies.

The real difference is that SRS carries with it a lifetime of medications and treatments, whereas medical blinding and amputation is pretty much out-patient surgery at this point. >it's why you have people laying on railroad tracks to self amputate and arm they think "isn't theirs" And then they end up with phantom limbs that don't belong to them. >>1032474 >Steam has it on their top sellers list however, so it may end up still selling well enough on the brand name alone. Then again it is struggling to maintain the 2 and 3 slot whenever I check on it, so maybe this will still bomb like it deserves. It could be that the game is close to releasing, so advertising is really ramping up and customers are finally making the choice to preorder. People tend to leave things to the last minute. The spike in preorders could also be because journos have done early reviews of the game and that helped people remember it exists. There's still a massive chance that the game will not do well at all, as a brand name can only carry things so much. Once customers see how bad this game is, any trust they had left in Bioware and EA will crumble. Speaking of reviews, here are some archives of several reviews from mainstream sources, both for posterity and convenience for you anons. Next to each link is the score that was given: https://archive.md/aGGlb 5/5 ("This is the best Dragon Age, and perhaps BioWare, has ever been.") https://archive.md/4BfBX 10/10 (Doesn't list any cons at all in the review summary) https://archive.md/dxCyx 8.5/10 https://archive.md/UPfif 79/100 https://archive.md/4oBf4 4.5/5 https://archive.md/2jheG 7/10 (Review is "in progress" at the time of this posting) https://archive.md/CWrVr 9/10 (Reviewer claims to be nonbinary) https://archive.md/P2r03 84/100 https://archive.md/PC5PD 4/5 https://archive.md/TQsLB 10/10 ("Perfect." Says the game is for fans of Dragon Age and Mass Effect)
"Reviewer claims to be nonbinary" shows how freaks overrate games when games have their freak shit in them. Dragon Age was always queer.
>>1032549 Her boobs shrunk.
>>1032669 Yep. Though that might be because big boobs are impossible in the game itself. In the character creator you can't go higher than a B-cup. You can make an absolutely massive bulge, though, of course. But nothing that would make a conventionally attractive woman to a heterosexual man, such as big boobs or a large ass.
>>1032669 >>1032672 >Though that might be because big boobs are impossible in the game itself. This is probably the case. The developers, in order to save time, probably made Isabella's model by using the in-game character creator, not a custom mesh or body. Wouldn't be surprised if nothing about the body, hair, etc. is custom despite her being a well-known and widely loved returning character. Not even her face looks remotely like her original one, it's the same problem Morrigan has. The game director of The Veilguard is also a self-proclaimed "queerosexual gendermancer" transgender, so the lack of boobs could easily be due to envy. He is at odds with real, attractive women as well as heterosexual men, so he will do what he can to spite them or twist what they enjoy. https://archive.md/FPUbe
The reviews are interesting. Major outlets love it, independent reviewers don't. One review accused EA of only handing codes to softball reviewers, a tactic infamously used by Marvel.

>>1032927 >It's not that, it's how many do overs Bioware got when EA loves to shitcan their studios. I believe that EA is interested in having an RPG division, that makes western RPGs, just to have a slice of the Western RPG maket, and for marketing/optics purposes they decided it's better to call that division Bioware, instead of EA RPGs, the same way they have EA Sports. As such, they are unlikely to get rid of Bioware as a corporate entity, what they can do instead, is fire 2/3 of the people and replace them with new hires, or devs from other studios, in which case EA has long since "killed" Bioware, as the Bioware today is not the same that made Dragon Age Origins, which also wasn't the same Bioware that made Baldur's Gate 1. This is why they can have failure over failure and never seem to get closed, like other studios, just so that EA can have a Western RPG released once every few years. >but they could just buy some other studio that makes good WRPGs In which case, they would just move them all into Bioware or rename them into Bioware XYZ.

If EA were to buy a new RPG studio, they would become the new Bioware studio either to help the other studios or to make their new game under the Bioware name.
>>1032930 >What a shame for a studios that made so many cool games. It's less sad when you realize they've been long dead. It's been dead so long that even people 4chan used to hate for lowering their writing quality, like Hamburger Hepler, have been gone for 10 years, replaced by people far worse.

Alright, so this game has finally been released. Of course, it is too early to make any definitive conclusions about its success, but we do have some estimated player counts available. Here they are, next to the numbers for the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta Test, which also released on October 31st, 2024. It is clear that something about EA and the Dragon Age name is driving people to buy the game. But a beta test for an unreleased game is easily attracting more players. The all-time peak for MH Wilds is still steadily increasing, while Veilguard reached its current peak 6 hours ago.
>>1033834 mh wilds is way more popular franchise, and has both east and west audience. Not a fair comparison, but its clear that these kinds of "rpg" "games" is not liked at all. I'd say even life is strange was more popular than this shit
>>1033834 These are not good numbers for Veilguard. If people expected Dustborn or Concord numbers for a game with a franchise attached like Dragon Age they were fooling themselves. This is still low enough that the game will likely be deemed a failure and Bioware shuttered.
>>1033868 It was impossible for the Dustborn and Concord numbers, especially with the journos reviews that the game is "good" for the normalfags to eat it,but 70k is pathetic i think the top guys wanted it to be the "new BG3" or something
>>1033834 Also i wish to know the amount of people that got this game from buying a graphic card lol
(335.85 KB 1236x775 Steam Top Sellers.PNG)

(59.67 KB 568x568 Monster Hunter.png)

>>1033878 I don't think there is ever that many people who own the newest AAA game just from the graphic card. You would have to be at Concord or Dustborn levels where only 25k people bought the game, to have a noticeable amount of players getting the game through a graphics card. The game is selling, not as much as EA/Bioware hoped, but it's not Dustborn levels of disaster either. >>1033834 A problem with that comparison is that one is a 60 dollar game, while the other is a free beta test, that is only available for a limited time so it creates a small FOMO effect as well as a lower barrier of entry. That's not even going into how Monster Hunter is a much more popular IP than Dragon Age, especially in Japan. Even before Worlds, something like MH 3 and 4 were massively popular and their versions on the 3DS outsold most Vita games combined.
>>1033834 >>1033878 >>1033895 It'll be on sale by the end of the month. Like anon said, this is a flop by EA/AAA standards. Even Helldivers 2 has half of those players on Steam and the golden hour has long passed for it.
>>1033834 How long was this shit stuck in development Hell? 10 years maybe? Either way, this is pathetic, 70k players on launch day? Fucking Fagware is long since overdue for a purge, wonder if they at last did a few builds when this shit was called Dreadwolf instead of Purpleguard
>>1033904 >Fucking Fagware is long since overdue for a purge I am surprised they have not been sent the graveyard. EA has killed studios for less failures than Bioware has had in the last 10 or so years.

EA has to experience a huge downturn that outweighs the maintenance of their Blackrock and Vanguard usury lines to start letting them go.
Who thought this was a good idea?
>>1033920 Anon you need to understand that even when a game flops SOMEONE made bank. Either literally by laundering money or metaphorically by owning the chuds and destroying another beloved series. DA was already going down this path anyways so you should have seen this coming.
>>1033926 I'm sure those massive investment firms can afford to keep unprofitable companies afloat just for the social engineering.
>>1033938 I think groups and families are even more of a problem than investment firms themselves since they are more private, they don't need to be inside the industry either they do the social engineering they use a lot of journos to do it, like several journos are owned by a single group, and some of the journos that they own also own multiple journos themselves.
(328.01 KB 638x899 pcgamesveilguard2.PNG)

>>1033851 >>1033895 True, the comparison between Wilds and Veilguard might not be the most fair. I've seen other people compare the two games, and they were both released on the same day, so I thought it would be interesting to show the numbers side by side regardless. >>1033868 Someone less familiar with vidya sales might see a number like 70k and think that the game sold well. But of course, for a AAA title which probably took about a decade to develop, from a big company like EA, those sales are pretty much nothing. It is a drop in the bucket compared to what they paid to make the game. There might be a surge in sales this upcoming Saturday, when people are more likely to be home and have free time to buy games. But if the release day they have been hyping up for months resulted in such low sales, it is doubtful that the weekend will bring many more. We already have journos trying to twist the data to try and make Veilguard look like a success, and the game has only been out for a day: https://archive.ph/kfuig Dragon Age The Veilguard beats Inquisition’s Steam record by 500% in one hour >Fears Dragon Age The Veilguard might be unsuccessful appear unfounded, as the game is already smashing it on Steam immediately at launch. >Though a name like this should draw some huge attention, there have been worries that it may end up underperforming. While it’s too early to say for sure just how much of an impact it’ll have, initial Steam player figures indicate that it’s heading in the right direction. >The best comparison point we can make for Dragon Age The Veilguard is to its immediate predecessor, Dragon Age Inquisition. This incredibly well regarded RPG wasn’t released on Steam initially so it’s not possible to check those numbers, but it has been sitting on the platform since 2020. In that time it’s attracted plenty of fans thanks to several considerably deep sales, so while you can’t compare exactly like-for-like, you can at least use it as an indication of how well this fourth Dragon Age game is doing. >The good news is – it’s smashing it. Just a single hour after launch has seen Dragon Age The Veilguard shoot past the player peak for Inquisition by a whopping 500%. What’s more, those figures are continuing to rise, and at the time of writing they’re currently 733% higher than anything Dragon Age Inquisition has seen. >Even for a game that has been on Steam since launch, the original Dragon Age Origins, Veilguard has managed to pull past it. Dragon Age Origins peaked at 7,089 players nearly 15 years ago, while just an hour after the Dragon Age The Veilguard release date it has managed to hit nearly 25,000. Everything this guy says is faulty, and he even admits that some of his data isn't perfect. But he still asserts his incorrect position as if it's completely obvious.
>>1033904 The game was rebooted at LEAST twice. First it was a small scale game about doing heist of magical artifacts while chasing Solas, then it was live service slop (this is probably when it got the shitty artstyle) and then finally all that live service stuff got gutted and it moved from Dreadwolf to Veilguard and the game essentially starts at what would have been the end of Dreadwolf with extremely clumsy narration trying to make it work. >>1033897 Another great comparison: at DAV's peak Baldur's Gate 3, a game over a year old, only had ten thousand fewer players. Of course at it's peak BG3 had nearly 700k players, 10 times more than Veilguard. There's no way this isn't a flop.
Funny if real.
>>1033977 I've seen a ton of people using the "it's the highest selling and most played Bioware game on steam ever!" and fucking yeah of course it is because EA used to force their own launcher for years and would only put it on steam way later.
>>1033977 Apparently Sweety Baby was involved and those parasites alone would cost them several millions, the minimun they had to make would be at least 300$ million and i'm being generous since there was the entire development hell.
>>1033984 I don't think we have any info saying SBI was involved. Or any consulting firm. The Dual Shockers review was simply using SBI as shorthand for "this game is hyper woke." I can tell you just looking at the twitter history of the writers behind this game as well as it's director they didn't need any consulting firm to be woke cultists. That's just their lifestyle.
>>1033982 Whether it is out of true ignorance, or out of a desire to stretch the truth, all of these statements about Veilguard's supposed smashing success conveniently ignore most of the facts. Like you said, most of Dragon Age's sales were through the EA launcher for a long time, so none of those numbers are included in the Steam data. Inquisition, for example, was released in 2014. By the time it reached Steam in 2020, 6 years later, almost everyone who was interested in the game had bought it already on other consoles or online storefronts. No doubt many potential Steam sales were lost because of the horrid reputation that Inquisition had deservedly built up over those several years. So of course, the numbers would be pretty low compared to what Veilguard got on launch day. As for Dragon Age Origins, like that one article says, it has been on Steam since it was released. But how much more popular has Steam grown since 2009, when Origins was released? How much more accessible has PC gaming become? Of course a game released in 2024 on Steam will get more attention than one that was released on the same platform nearly 15 years ago. Not to mention how Dragon Age has a much bigger reputation now compared to then, by virtue of being around for longer and releasing more games. So we will very likely see many journos strut around repeating that line over and over again in the next few weeks, that "Veilguard is the highest selling and most played Bioware game on steam ever!" But they will never say why that is, because it reveals that such a statement means next to nothing in context.
>>1033990 Wroth noting Origins is supposedly the best selling DA game of all time and possibly the best selling Bioware game period, so you know those Steam numbers are off.
>>1033990 There is one advantage I can think of that Origins had over Veilguard. People actually liked bioware back in 2009. Could go on any forum back in those days and see people fawning over Baldurs gate 2 or kotor or mass effect.

I really wish there was some way to get accurate data on sales. Closest I have is taking steam reviews and multiplying by 33. If you do that for veilguard you get 270 468. But that is just PC sales, Can't imagine it getting that much more on consoles though. If we assume that it is selling an equal amount on all platforms(ps5, xbone and PC) then 270468 X 3 = 811404. For any other game Selling almost a million copies would be great but for a big franchise like dragon age that is pretty low. I heard VG charts isn't a very good source but according to them the series sold like this. Dragon Age: Origins sold 3.2 million units. Dragon Age II sold 2 million units. Dragon Age: Inquisition sales reached 6 million units. So the game is selling way worse than any other entry so far. Also as a side note the site that game me the sales numbers also gave me this: Dragon Age: Origins grossed $6.7 million. Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition grossed $16.2 million. Dragon Age II grossed $1.4 million. Dragon Age Inquisition grossed $8.1 million. Which makes me wonder how origins ended up grossing so much more money while selling less than half of origins. Something isn't adding up.
>>1034384 >normies Die in a fire, plebbitor.
>>1034429 Should probably explain. Something like 3% of steam users leave a review on average. 3x33=99 which isn't a 100% but I am lazy when it comes to math. Hypothetically if a higher percentage of players leave a review on this game then the true number might be lower.

As more reviews come out over the next few days, and journos/content creators inevitably have to address the negativity about the game, we will be witnesses to a whole lot of fence sitting.

>>1034533 Everyone was looking for a way out with how the turks were treating everyone. Think about how much of a piece of a shit you have to be for groups of people willing to die than interact with you any further.
Interesting bit of prospective on just how much of a zombie studio Bioware is: Raven Software, cursed to be a cog in the Call of Duty machine, actually retains six of ten of Jedi Academy's 2 project leads, lead designer, 6 designers and lead programmer despite that game coming out over 20 years ago, and a bunch of people who were further down the line are also still there. Is there a single person who worked on ME1 or the much newer DAO (let alone KotOR, NWN, JE or older stuff) who works for Bioware any more? >>1034386 No, Steam sales are set months in advance.

>>1034630 >I just downloaded this game illegally without paying any money, can I ignore/kill the tranny or do I must have him in the party? Every party member is required. You cannot refuse to recruit them, tell them to leave or even be mean to them. Even the shitty awful tumblr-tier elf shrew in Inquisition you could refuse to let join or kick her out at any time. No such luck here. I think you can get the party members killed at the end when it tries to copy the ME2 suicide mission but I have no idea how it works. I know either dwarf girl from the last game or the nigger elf dies depending on who you pick at one point. Seems like an easy "get rid of nigger" button to me.

Seems like IGN is now criticizing Veilguard more openly. A few days ago they published an article: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Is at War With Itself https://archive.ph/fLWxN >The sequel to Inquisition’s Dread Wolf story is trapped in an action game with no interest in the past. >While ultimately it really doesn’t matter what this game is called, the more I play The Veilguard, the more it feels like it’s awkwardly in conflict with itself, torn into pieces that reflect two very different intentions – one a sequel to a decade-old RPG, the other a fresh beginning with no ties to what came before. >The overall result is that Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t the golden era BioWare game that I had hoped it would be. Torn between continuing its traditional role-playing legacy and starting afresh as a modern action RPG, the end result is an awkward sequel trapped in a cage made of reboot ideas. After years and years of faltered steps I understand why BioWare landed on this particular, very mainstream AAA formula, but I wish it had been inspired by the undying mass popularity of The Witcher 3 – a full-on nerdy RPG – rather than veer closer to Sony’s palatable RPG-ish approach for modern God of War. But that ill-defined shape is often what uneasy development cycles get you. Thankfully The Veilguard’s launch has seemingly gone well for EA and BioWare, which hopefully means Dragon Age will continue. Let’s just hope next time it’s not just the name that’s got a bit of Baldur’s Gate in it. As you can see, the journo openly admits the game is not BioWare's best, that it is an ill-defined and awkward game. Of course, he does not directly address the laughable pandering to extremist gender ideologies and other anachronistic real-life topics. Or the horrendous voice acting. In fact he cites Taash as the most engaging character to talk to. >It was only after unlocking the dragon-hunting Taash that I was presented with a conversation in which I was able to cycle through multiple tiers of responses at every stage of the dialogue. Along with the fact that they are still pushing the unsubstantiated idea that the game had a great and financially successful launch, our buddies over there still seem to be missing the point. And I doubt they'll reassess their 9/10 score for the game.
>>1038749 >Thankfully The Veilguard’s launch has seemingly gone well for EA and BioWare Lol no it didn't. It couldn't even break 90k concurrent players and fell sharply after. By all accounts the game didn't even sell a million copies and there have been loads of refunds too.
I want to talk about Origins but this thread is about veilguard. It also hit 500 posts so new dragon age thread? Or do we just continue here? I would rather we make a new thread for dragon age in general.
>>1038927 With everything going on with Veilguard, most of the talk in the thread ended up being related to it. A new Dragon Age thread would be good to have, or even a general Bioware thread, since that would get even more activity.
