Let's talk about Elden Ring and also other Souls games too. The big DLC just dropped a couple of weeks ago and the previous thread is bumplocked. We probably should have made a new one win it first dropped. Sissy hypno shota Griffith was not exactly what I was expecting but I'm not surprised either. All things considered I'm beginning to wonder if the whole set the planet on fire thing is really that bad of an ending. Also where the fuck is the real MLGS? We got the the one Elden Blinged out by Radagon and the other one that's been ice trannyied by Ranni. I wanted a pure Moonlight Sword from the DLC. Previous thread. >>938248 Also Lies of P is predicted to have a DLC come out in the second half of 2024. So that's nice. Everyone knows where the DLC door is right?
I'm coping for a Melina DLC Anons.
>>985823 There is nothing more to do with her story, she wanted to die in the fire and she died. "Oh but I went to the Frenzied Flame and then used the needle to purify myself, why won't she talk to me anymore?" She is too disgusted by the idea that you would even consider killing everyone on the planet, including Torrent, no just because you meta-gamed and used a needle, she is still angry at you, she ain't coming back, unless it's to stab you in the heart.
It only recently struck me that there's no "Don't Link The Fire" ending for Elden Ring. You either have to become the consort to Marika's brain dead body- with an option for various seasonings for the broth, become consort of a blue doll with questionable morals and ethics, or kill everyone. There's no "Fuck this. You're all retarded. I'm leaving." option. >>985823 >>985830 Speaking of blue dolls and good endings.
Cool thread OP, I'm 50 hours into my 2nd playthrough, going way faster than before so I should be ready for the DLC in a few days. I would use my first character but I made the mistake of going ng+ and dropping the game right away 2 years ago hehe

Just booted up Nioh, liking the mechanics so far, but I just hope the level design is more interesting than "Swamp". Sekiro had a better swamp stage with the Hirata State too

>>986008 Putting all the porn aside it would have been interesting to have Miquella somehow slight the player character. Taking away Melina from you or stealing Torrent(like he was shown in the promotions). The way its done in the DLC you barely get the sense he even charmed anyone of his followers or that he even used his powers for anything but good. It would certainly give the player hell of a lot more motivation to after him and justify why you do not get to side with him. As it stands you are essentially trying to kill him for no reason in particular.

>Code Vein still has Denuvo What the fuck? I have the game from a bundle and I can't even play it because of that crap. It turns 5 in a few months.
>>986161 I bet Sellen gives great head. >>986259 >Code Vein still has Denuvo That's really weird. Namco usually, if it uses it all, gets rid of Denuvo within the year. The only true Denuvo cultists I was aware of were Sega. God I hate Sega for that.
>>986274 Was 2019 before Denuvo started requiring more money for protection after a year? I know a bunch of older Namco Bandai titles (Ace Combat, Soul Calibur) only got rid of Denuvo when it would be incompatible with new Intel CPUs, and its still in Fatal Bullet as well.
so, shadow of the erdtree, is there only one way into the abyssal woods? through the catacombs? if so, then jori is the only boss you need to fight to access pretty much the entirety of the map. I find that to be pretty interesting. >>986274 >I bet Sellen gives great head I want to know what sort of magic she can weave with her feet, personally.
>>986256 >justify why you do not get to side with him The really funny thing is that there is unused Miquella dialogue that seems to be from an ending and it's almost exactly the same thing Ranni says in her Age of Stars ending.
Wait. Where is Miquella's fucking wolfman? Don't all Empyreans get a furry commissar? Isn't that actual base game lore?
>>986655 the shadowbound beasts were given by the two fingers of the golden order; sort of as royal protectors/knightly servants to he who was considered by the order a royal official of high import. marika had maliketh and ranni had blaidd because they were actually chosen as vassal for the greater will. miquella and malenia are defective, thus they weren't fit for candidacy, and didn't receive one (at least that's my personal speculation).
>>986658 With Godfrey, I assumed the lion was also a shadowbound beast, but that seemed to act more like a power limiter than an actual helper. Now I assume he received it, because he was the Elden Lord and the Golden Order wanted to keep tabs on him, so how come Radagon didn't get one, or did Godfrey get his when he was banished, so the Golden Order put a tracking device on him?
>>986212 we get it you cant afford elden ring zoomer
>>986212 Yeah, Nioh is great
>>986655 see, only empyreans get a shadowbound beast. I don't think either radagon or godfrey were empyreans. the lion is called serosh, and he was regent and advisor to godfrey during his time as elden lord. he helped him raise his children, morgott, mohg, godwyn, and the rest of the golden lineage (who are unspecified beyond godrick, it's possible there were more but we don't actually know that).
sorry >>986755 meant for >>986662
>>986662 Sarosh seems to be implied to be his power limiter that helps Godfrey/Hoarah Loux with his barbarian bloodlust and his pseudo-royal adviser that helps with him stately duties because Lion - Royalty symbolism. Would be a bit strange for the Golden Order to keep tabs of him when there's that other theory of him turning Tarnished and banished from the Lands Between as a long term plan of Marika's.
>>986212 >but I just hope the level design is more interesting than "Swamp". Which stage has a swamp? I don't remember a swamp at all? I remember falling into the fucking shrine water 100 times but no swamp.
>>985823 Why does From hate us?
>>985830 Even if it's not a full ending it feels a little sloppy not to have something if you do FF and then cure it. The extra Melina cutscene doesn't play if you get Touched By A Three Finger after she does a flip. So there should at least be an extra scene if you burn for her and then double cross crazy space satan with gay boi's needle. >>986921 I just don't think they think shit through or something.
>6 months since the last berserk chapter >we are on a boat again only relevant thread I can post this in no bully, remember when you couldnt find a ds1 fan that wasnt also a berserk fan?
So is the Scadutree the original Erdtree? Meaning it is/was the Crucible?
>>987082 On a KUSHAN Boat!
>>987721 >Remembrance of the Scadutree Avatar, hewn into the Scadutree. The power of its namesake can be unlocked by the Finger Reader. Alternatively, it can be used to gain a great bounty of runes. The Scadutree is the shadow of the Erdtree. Born of dark notions that bear no sense of Order, that twist and bend its stock, rendering it brittle.
>>987082 >>987875 >Still reading Berserk Anon please, Miura never had a plan and the people continuing it sure as hell don't. It's all just been padding since the Conviction Arc. Christ, I wish the Monster of the Week format was kept, it was so much better than faggy LoTR party hijinks.
>>987881 >the people continuing it The WHAT?
>>987889 I'm sorry you had to find out this way, anon...
>>987889 You really thought they still have this tradition of burying the artist with his art? Look at DragonBall and whatever Square Enix have been shitting out just to bank on Toriyama's death, they can just hose up their franchises like they're on life support.
It's boring. The biggest issue is that there's practically no exposition, not even for the player character, so it's difficult to give a damn about anything and difficult to make a choice about anything. Without being given any motivation and without any meaningful understanding of the world and its major actors, the game ends up being little more than screwing around until some even triggers. Maybe this changes after you hit the X hour mark, but in my experience every time someone said "oh it gets better after X hours" about a game, it didn't.
(1.04 MB 384x216 idolmaster.mp4)

>>987881 I'm going to repeat it but the best thing to come out of Berserk was the Lost Children aka the Cannibal Fairy arc, after that the most memorable thing afterwards was Rape Horse, it just got more D&D padded and tamer the longer it went on afterwards.
>>987889 Gooks realized they could milk their franchise just like america did and turned Goku into our Superman and every franchise is open to multiple interpretations of it, spin offs, stand alone series, "canon" continuations, etc, etc... Mangas and animes is dead
>>988244 It's product, Toriyama was pretty blunt about not giving too much of a shit about it after a while. Miura just started stretching out Berserk since he got a license deal with Warner Brothers for movies.
>>988244 >>988245 Mangaka run the gamut of how they feel about their art, but Shonen Jump mangaka in particular are blase about the marketing. Toriyama only reacted once at how Dragon Ball was being used and that was when Dragon Ball Evolution came out. Kishimoto has made no bones about Naruto not being his first choice for a manga, but just the one that sold Oda has repeatedly said he doesn't care how One Piece is merchandised and even mocks people like Ken Levine who treat characters like their children.
>>988245 >>988265 Its not like i can blame them. They fucking take decades out of their lives for the chance of hitting it big time. I won't pretend they are good though.

>>988217 It's a density problem with the narrative. I just don't think open world + Souls jives perfectly well together. It's too easy to miss or break the quests and dialogue that does occur. The DLC itself has a narrative problem in that its basically disconnected from the base game's narrative completely. If you don't defeat two optional bosses then Miquellas plan can't even succeed enough for you to have any reason to try and stop him. Furthermore in 5 out of the 6 endings it doesn't matter if he gets his consort and ascends anyway because you are rewriting reality anyway. That, combined with the fact that the world is such in Elden Ring that you expect more interaction and dialogue with NPCs. Unlike previous Souls everyone isn't dead, a zombie, a werewolf, or crazy so you expect the possibility to converse with more people and as a potential Lord you would think you would get more supporters. Sekiro had a bit of that latter problem too but that game takes place over a much shorter period of time and also Wolf is a recovering psychopath. In other Souls games you're basically a murderhobo but then everyone else is so much worse or they're non sapient so it doesn't really matter.
>>988217 > Without being given any motivation and without any meaningful understanding of the world and its major actors First time playing a souls game?
>Miquella implies incest with his brother Radahn (both being brothers) >Two Fingers (male) becomes a mother >Unique death scene where Miquella steals the player heart if Radahn grabs the player twice (spitting on the roleplay aspect of the game) >Increased number of Female bosses with melee combat as a focus >just so happened to be released during pride month Elden Ring is pretty much Fromsoft meets Ubishit at this point. >>988403 It's because he's channeling or being possessed by Elden Shub Niggerath. I don't think Mommy Finger should even be necessarily thought of as female since "she" is a fucking cosmic horror.
>>988434 >>988363 Man, people fall for the shittiest of bait nowadays. >>988331 That would've been an interesting way to do things, there's even a trigger tied to it in the code as a way to get the "we go together" gesture already. Wonder if they were planning that or a similar idea but decided to scrap it for being too obtuse, or some similar reasoning? On another note. There's a trend with discussion about this DLC that got me thinking, as it's a problem that's been affecting the souls series and souls-likes as a whole for a while, but really feels like it started to become a real problem after DS3. That issue being nobody really talks about the moment-to-moment PVE very much and instead lasers in on boss fights. I want to blame this on DS3 due to that game doing exactly that with mediocre PVE and char/setup building and instead putting most of the gameplay focus on boss fights. This DLC has some of the coolest level design in From's whole repetoire of games and nobody's even talking about it, instead bitching about the bosses or whining about inane shit like how the dancing lion is a bad boss because he has 2 elements he can use. Areas like Belurat and The Specimen Hall are fucking amazing levels to navigate, especially in co-op and with the threat of invaders, and lead to a lot of fun situations in such cases. Even the mini-dungeons are a huge step up from base ER and many are very cool in their own rights like the three catacombs all being distinct. What's the cause of this shift in focus from the PVE as a whole to laser-focusing on boss fights? People aren't even talking about the lore or the characters/story much at all this time around, most discussion I'm seeing is hyper focused on boss fights and boss designs like this game is a boss rush game and not a, you know, RPG with a story and world and whole ass levels and all that.
>>988434 Keep making up excuses. Would you make up an excuse for ER if Fromsoft put trans flags in it?
>>988442 Probably because boss fights in early Souls installments aren't all that difficult. You don't really hear about people complaining about boss dificulty compared to area difficulty in those game. Outside of specific instances like BoC, Capra in the closet, or DS2 hitboxes. Probably blame the Old Hunters DLC for adding the first completely apeshit bosses and getting the fanbase hooked on them.
It’s weird to me that Elden Ring has eclipsed Dark Souls in the cultural zeitgeist. I know it’s got more content and all, but still it feels like Warioland becoming more famous than Super Mario Bros.
>>988307 Nu/pol/ is neurotic to a truly ridiculous degree. >>988442 >What's the cause of this shift in focus from the PVE as a whole to laser-focusing on boss fights? It's just low IQ people having low IQ opinions. For whatever reason Elden Ring riles up aggressively retarded and highly opinionated people. It was the exact same story when the base game came out.
>>988457 >muh pol go back >>>/leftypol/
>>988452 I guess you know how SMT fans felt when Persona eclipsed the main series. >>988457 >It's just low IQ people having low IQ opinions. That's obviously a factor, I know, but it's going beyond just that and this whole "muh boss fights" thing has completely dominated the discussion about Elden Ring, beyond retards being retards. This kind of thing is also spreading beyond Elden Ring itself and has been affecting soulslike discussion and even design for quite a while. I've seen quite a few games where devs really neglect the basic level design while focusing too much on the bosses. Hell, Salt and Sacrifice is probably one of the best examples of that because while the bosses are at least okay and are usually great, the bosses themselves DO NOT mesh with the level design and the chase gimmick becomes quite bullshit when you're fighting bosses with giga-knockback on tiny platforms with lethal drops to the left and right. >>988449 I guess you have a point here, but does that mean the levels are too easy for people, now? Or just that people are lasering in on the hard stuff over discussing the overall game design? IDK myself, I just personally find it frustrating that people are glossing over the excellent things like the new weapons and spells, and the amazing level design to complain about the bosses. Man, I wish I'd get summoned for actual level navigation more, too, while discussing this. I find fighting through levels themselves a ton more fun in general than trying to carry someone through a fight with a big baddie.
>>988442 DS3 and Elden Ring have reached a point where normalfaggots just want to use them as a dick measuring contest so all the online discourse revolves around the boss fights.
>>988484 >but does that mean the levels are too easy for people, now? In the case of Elden Ring they kind of are. It's extremely easy to avoid combat that you don't want it. I guess Sekiro had a bit of that as well since you could grapple out of most situations but Sekiro only half counts as a Souls game. Elden Ring has both Torrent and open world so outside of dungeons combat is completely optional.
>>988442 A lot of lack of discussion surrounding dungeons is due to the open world: if you praise how good dungeons are, then you're forced to admit how bad the open world is. Open world moment to moment "gameplay" is avoiding enemies whilst riding Torrent. Criticizing something they've imprinted unto is impossible for normalfags.
>>988541 My belief that DS1 was peak souls design continues to prove itself even well into the current day.
>>988478 Nu/pol/ is utterly braindead, on top being absurdly neurotic. >>988484 >beyond retards being retards. It's literally just retards, anon. Wake up to the retard menace, it's a genuine problem.
Are people still trying to say ER's open world is bad when it's one of the few in years that rewards you for exploration.

>>988975 Obviously too busy making a tranny dlc for elden ring
>>988975 Probably a combination of two things. Activision and a low clear rate for the game due to the high difficulty, thus making it seem like a DLC wouldn't be worth it. It did get some free extra content in the form of boss gauntlets though, for what that's worth. Game puts a really bs early boss in the form of blazing bull, and then Genichiro is a massive (but manageable) difficulty spike where you learn how to play or die trying. I think putting demon of hatred right before the final boss was the biggest filter for people though, as I've never heard a single person say a positive thing about that boss and I know a few people who put the game down over that fucker, too, even if he's optional.

Before you get to Genichiro you have a big chance to go and explore and get 9 of 10 gourd seeds, several prayer beads, and extra attack upgrade (2 if you do Lady Butterfly) than what the game expects you to have. You can also get enough carp scales to buy floating passage. >Demon of Hatred Man you have to be really fully preped for that fight. I've been downcast that they didn't add in a true MLGS in the DLC only to realize they added a Ludwig's 2.0
Do I need to do azul favela on my new character for the smithing stone ball bearings or is the DLC filled with +7/8/9s? I went ng+ on my original character and dropped it so Im still catching up with a new one
>>989684 The DLC showers you with stones, but if you want to try out a ton of different weapons, you'll want the bell bearings.
>>989705 >The DLC showers you with stones I hope the same thing will be true of the LoP DLC because there are not enough fucking dark moonstones in the game.

So obviously once you're into the game you can spec however you want but what're the best starter classes for a battlemage/magic knight using incantations & sorceries?
>>989445 >text oh, you just made me realize that he could have done as marika-radagon and do a selfcest
>>988559 >repeating lies when called out, this time on a different IP
>>989445 Miquella became a villain the moment he tossed his flower waifu into that hole in order to become a faggot. >>989684 The DLC gives you so many stones people complain about that being the only loot besides new cookbooks. Bell Bearings for stones have basically been made irrelevant.
>>989845 Like what kind of magic knight? Like big colossal sword wielding knight or a rapier/katana knight? If you want a STR/INT build I would go with Hero and then make up the difference leveling INT as you go (there is that big dragon in Calid if you want to to speed it along). For a dexy magic knight I'd go with Prisoner or Samurai. For a holy dexy knight Prophet. Now if you just want a spellblade knight just go with Astrologer. If you want a knight that uses BOTH incantations & sorceries Wretch is probably the best bet and combine it with STR weapons since you can two hand them and that will help with the point spread.
>>989929 Probably like dex weapons more than colossal ones. What about vagabond? Hero is more STR/ARC focused which seems like it's made for dragon incantations. Whereas Vagabond has the most seeming wiggle room with melee stats already there.
>>989928 >Miquella became a villain the moment he tossed his flower waifu into that hole in order to become a faggot. Imagine having a loli built into you and still becoming a faggot. I think Miquella might be retarded. >>989933 Do you want to be a knight that uses spells or a mage that uses swords? >vagabond Since you want a DEX/INT build consider Warrior. It's got 16 DEX and 10 INT and comes with twin scimitars.
>>989934 Knight that uses spells. I don't like primarily mage gameplay. Just seems really boring. I feel more satisfied hitting things & getting close. Warrior or Samurai? I think there's like a 1 or 2 point difference.
>>989934 >I think Miquella might be retarded. Throwing opium loli off of a cliff is definitely retarded. He deserved to die. >>989937 >I feel more satisfied hitting things & getting close. Just do carian sword sorceries. It's literally just a melee mage build. Make sure to throw in Gavel of Haima. Dual wield it for extra fun.
>>989940 That means more FP usage spam & needing to have at least 2 flasks dedicated for it. Usually I save all that for bosses or bigger mobs.
>>989937 >Warrior or Samurai? I think there's like a 1 or 2 point difference. Well at that point I guess aesthetics come into play a bit. If you want azn look it takes awhile to get the samurai set if you don't get it at character creation. >Knight that uses spells. I don't like primarily mage gameplay. Be aware that hymanoid opponets roll like motherfuckers in this game and basically input read so consider night sorceries if you wan supplemental damaging spells. Or use gravity shit to suck in or repel enemies for melee beating. >Just seems really boring. I feel more satisfied hitting things & getting close. Really consider going spellblade. It's like a whole sub class of spells that work like DS3's Farron flash sword and old moonlight. And also one spell that involves a giant magic mallet.
>>989942 You either want to be a mage or not, anon. Maybe a lightning build would work for you? I haven't played one myself yet, so I don't really know, but maybe search around online for some ideas. >>989943 >hymanoid opponets roll like motherfuckers in this game and basically input read so consider night sorceries if you wan supplemental damaging spells. Magic Glintblade and Glintblade Trio from the DLC also work.
>>989943 Well they're both eastern. Just Warrior is more nomadic arabian & Samurai is Nippon. I mean it's a Japanese game & all but it almost feels like a cop out to pick a samurai look in a western themed game. Though between aesthetics I do prefer Samurai. Even if Warrior has a cooler background. I've done a full playthrough before so I know how enemies can be. Hmmm I dunno. >>989944 I wanna be a hybrid knight, anon. I must slash & unleash the power of dragons at the same time.
>>989946 >I must slash & unleash the power of dragons at the same time. Just be a drake knight, then. Make Igon proud.
>>989948 Then we shift the question of the starting class for that route.
>>989951 Just look up a good dragon incantation build on the internet, anon. Starting classes don't matter as much as you probably think they do.

>>989954 You don't understand, anon. My autistic ass must be optimized!
>>989955 Then you should experiment for yourself to determine the optimal Drake Warrior build. Igon is waiting for you.
>>989951 >>989954 Yeah especially since you can do the route >get gold chicken foot on the beach >get morningstar at Weeping Peninsula >take trap chest to AIDS land >trek to giant dragon's ass >touch scaly tail! >get a fuckton of runes and 5 dragon hearts You're now well on your way to a Dragon build. Also >pick stone sword keys for a burial gift >go through French Folk-hero' Grave >get dragon pyromancer flame
>>989958 >french folk-hero Also there's a stone sword key in the dragon burnt ruins. They're not exactly rare items & the mobs down there can be a pain. I'd pick the golden seed to get more flasks faster or the imp ashes to get good spirits right away. Say we go this route then. It'd have to be more faith & arcane focused for those incantations. So Hero, Confessor, or Prophet would be the way to go then?
>>989961 You primarily want faith and arcane, so yeah. The Dragon Communion Seal is something you'd probably want, as well, I'd imagine.

Given that From has a tendency to experiment with new features in one game that they implement as a core concept or mechanic in the next, how would anons feel if the next Souls game didn't have the souls leveling system and instead used the fragment on its own? Like how Sekiro did with prayer beads but in an otherwise traditional souls type game?
>>990874 Could be neat. That's basically how Zelda games work, for what it's worth, pieces of heart and getting heart containers from defeating specific bosses, all of which increase your max health and thus your "defense". Only issue would be stat requirements and managing to still have build variety in such a system if that's still a goal to keep.
>>990874 > how would anons feel if the next Souls game didn't have the souls leveling system and instead used the fragment on its own? Like how Sekiro did with prayer beads but in an otherwise traditional souls type game? I think that it will start becoming a souls-lite like Sekiro, instead of a Souls-like.
>>990874 No. It would flare my autism. I need bigger numbers. I need to calculate optimal damage output based on scaling, and to categorize the variations as affected by different infusions and split damage. The only reason it worked in Sekiro is because the player character doesn't have an arsenal of weapons, he's got a small kit and your bread and butter is deflection and deathblows, so it doesn't make sense to include such systems. It might work in another sequel, or maybe another franchise entirely (like a potential Tenchu revival or something; Remember when everyone saw the E3 trailers for Sekiro and thought it'd be a Tenchu spiritual successor instead of another souls game in disguise?), but souls is distinctly an ARPG. I say, keep it that way.
So... I recently bought Lies of P from a recommendation from the previous thread. I'm at the first Stargazer (basically a bonfire) and was told that you can only use them a limited number of times. What am I in for bros?

How should I shape up my build in lies of p when I really like the glaive?
>>990886 >>990889 >Only issue would be stat requirements and managing to still have build variety in such a system if that's still a goal to keep. Well the way Sekiro does it is that it keeps experience for skill points in essentially Nioh sort of system. Just expanding on that would probably do. They could also attach stats to attire or accessories instead. That already exists in Souls to a small degree with rings that give you extra attainment or that boost the levels of a particular stat by 5 or whatever points. It's not entirely out of left field. Although it would require more careful effort on the part of From to make that work smoothly compared to letting it be directly in the hands of the player and I'm not 100% sure they're up to that task. They have a kind of a "hit the high spots" game development philosophy. >>990929 >I'm at the first Stargazer (basically a bonfire) and was told that you can only use them a limited number of times. That is a lie. Basically it just means that you can only level up at stargazers during the tutorial level. You have to go back to Firelink Hotel to level after you reach it. >>990957 At some point soon you'll be able to trade out blades and handles for all the new weapons you'll find. Experiment. Don't sleep on that like I did for over half the game. Also I don't want to try and steer your build anon but I'll say that I went with an Advance build (basically elemental or "magic") and had loads of fun. It gets pretty cheesy once you get certain weapons and mix n' match just right. In my next run I'll probably do a Motivity (STR) build because there's a ton of fun heavies that I never got a chance to use.
>>990961 I dumped all of my stats into health and stamina when I got to the hotel when I used up the Gemini fragments
(250.38 KB 737x606 guan yu.png)

>>990957 >glaive Oh shit that glaive! I was confused and thought you were talking about the other glaive. I didn't know when it gave it to you right at the beginning since it was introduced when I was already at endgame. That weapon is basically a boss soul weapon so it doesn't have exchangeable parts. It's got a couple of powerful fable arts so you'll want to keep syringes of blue puppet meth on hand and once you're given the option to gain passives get extra fable slots and skills to increase fable refill. BE AWARE there are only enough upgrade mats to bring 2 boss soul weapons up to +5 and an additional 2 up to +4 so before you think about going above +3 consider long and hard if you really want to commit to it. Regular weapons aren't an issue. There's more than enough materials to bring them all to +9 and like 6 to +10. The blades. That's what gets upgraded not the handles so you can switch what ever handle to your fully upgraded blade. There is another Asian boss soul weapon that you get much later into the game that you might like. It's a sword.
>>990963 >I dumped all of my stats into health and stamina That's a wise decision. I should have leveled health sooner than what I did. Also be aware that there is an encumbered stat and the accessories (basically armor pieces) you get can be surprisingly heavy. Unless your parry game excellent you DO NOT want to "fat roll" in this game, and even then.
>>990966 No I mean the other glaive
>>990970 >the other glaive What's the exact name?
>>990971 Booster glaive
>>990972 Oh you've got that far. Try experimenting with different blades as you get them. You might find a use for fire soon, and lots of it. If you do decide to use elemental blades on a handle that doesn't natively scale with advance then you need to put an advance crank on it. Giving advance scaling doesn't affect the other two stats so it won't negativity affect your weapon if you decide to drop a regular blade back on it. Oh it's also got b scaling in Technique so even though it looks hefty it's a dex weapon.
>>990973 just kidding

So I got to the giant police puppet in Lies of P. The fights went well until the 2nd half of the battle when he used that faggot grab and started electifying itself. I used consumables to counter the effect but it wasn't perfect and me perfect blocking 80% of his attacks apparently wasn't enough so I had to use a specter and he got clapped in a matter of minutes. What a fucking bullshit boss
>>991016 The Specter is more like a Bloodborne or DS3 phantom than anything like a DS2 phantom. He can pull aggro an do some damage but you've got to do most of the heavy lifting. like 20/80 or 30/70. Later on you can improve the Specter's surviability and output. >and me perfect blocking 80% of his attacks apparently wasn't enough It's really not. You need to be doing better than 95% accuracy with perfect blocks or you're better off dodging or doing regular blocks that let you rally some health back. What weapon are you using and are you making sure that you aren't letting your weight getting too high?

>>991031 I think I used the electric coil even though he immune to electricity. The electric coil also does blunt damage so I guess that's why it worked so well for me. Don't even bother using the self buff, just swing away. I guess you could also use the police baton since it's blunt and it's also really fast.
>>991047 But then you do no damage and have no range though. I've been using a police baton handle with the greatsword blade I got from the beginning of the game and it absolutely smokes normal enemies way better than the glaive but is terrible against bosses
Is somewhat heavy too heavy for Lies of P?

>>991023 If you mean the one with the dragons and "Godwyn doesn't loose", it's a continuation of this video. I divided the video into two parts to take advantage of the 50MB file limit. In the first part Placidusax visits all the dragons in the base game and is disgusted by how much his race has fallen. In the second part it's mostly about Lansseax(the dragon who shapeshifts as a human priestess to train knights and in this video was the dragon GF of Vyke who took the Frenzied Flame path and broke her heart) and her brother Fortissax( who is Godwyn's best friend as he tries to fight off the death plague, and you fight him in the dream world or whatever that was) talking about Vyke and Godwyn who NEVER LOOSES! He KEEPS WINING! If you mean the commentary before that, it's jsut some meta shit that the creator of these videos won't do any more Elden Ring videos, and instead focus on superhero AI voice videos.
>>991122 Yes in my experience it is. I focused on dodging and kiting with light weapons a instead of perfect blocks. You can probably get away with it if you're using the shield or your perfect guards are up to snuff. What I did was level my capacity before everything else so that I was always in the lightest category with the best accessories I could get at the moment and what ever weapon I was using. Wot rings U got? I'm pretty sure that you can get a electrical resist converter before the Watchman. Also carry and use purification and resistance potions. If you get inflicted with electric shock you take more damage from electricity until it wears off or is cured. >>991118 Like I said he's weak against blunt and you're limited at this stage in the game for blunt attacks. Stabs are another option. He's resistant to slash which is what the glaive does. If you keep having trouble try the rapier. And if you have any throwable consumables DO NOT sleep on them. They can break bosses wide open. Depending on your build you might even need them to break the posture of late game bosses and minibosses.

As for the ergo, use it on weapons and Capacity and Vigor to increase weight limit and stamina.
>>991651 None of the quests become fucked. It's just you can miss out on basic items or help sometimes. To really mess up a questline is to kill a boss too early or a questline too late. It's not a game that allows for main quest to side questing afterwards.

It's pretty good but it's doing about the same damage as the glaive blade with this handle probably bec >It is againts puppets, but you'll need it with the new enemies.ause I upgraded it a couple times. Yeah, maybe not the weapon handle but the blade itself is irredeemable garbage. >>992694 >There's one phone in the area before you enter the factory. Well, maybe the devs should have made it clear that someone was calling me then. I combed through that area and never saw a phone or heard a phone call. >Although it does get better as you upgrade. The arms are a little inconsistent. Some of them are fine at their base level and the upgrades seem almost a waste, some are useless until fully upgraded, and others are good and slowly get better. No joke, the only ones I'm even interested in is the one that deals damage as you guard and the mine one. I could care less about the other ones and have just been using the legion arm from the very beginning of the game. >Your Vitality looks pretty good. I was running around the game with around 15, and no more than 20, until the very end and frankly that was way too low because I was getting 3 tapped way too often. I wouldn't put anymore that 30 and focus on your other stats. Welp, I just put even more in vitality and motivity
>>992705 >probably bec *because I upgraded it a few times
>>992705 Well you're not locked into your choices at any rate. You'll get infinite respecs for stats, quartz and legion arms eventually so do sweet it too much. >Salamader dagger is trash Have fun storming the Cathedral!
>>992732 I defeated the one protecting the tram getting there easy enough. Anyway, I am a very patiet, opportunistic fighter. None of the normal enemies/mini bosses have given me any trouble so far

>>992705 Don't sleep on the arms. If anything, use the puppet thread instead of the steel arm just to have something useful instead of a placeholder. >the only ones I'm even interested in is the one that deals damage as you guard and the mine one Yeah the Aegis is a good choice (and somewhat broken), can't say anything about the mine one since it never interesed me.
>>992739 Falcon Eyes disappointed me because when I finally and suddenly had need of a ranged damage source it didn't really do the job. The fully upgraded Puppet String is a complete game changer though. 100% worth 6 legion calibers.
>>992741 For me, Falcon Eyes is too slow, maybe the dodge-shot upgrade would have solved the problem, but i needed the string and flamberge at max, a free heavy attack from a safe distance is too good.
>>992746 The Pandemonium is probably pretty good given how good acid damage can be, but it's hampered by the default splash angle is awkward and so you need upgrades and by the fact that the game puts most of the acid weak enemies at the back side of the game. And besides if I need acid damage and build up I'll just use the acidic crystal spear which is just stupidly powerful for an advance build.
I wish it didn't take so long for the game to allow you to have 2 arms set. It's like the 5th tier unlock I think. That's a lot of quartz.
(168.95 KB 1348x1476 media_GS91Tzba8AAVWA7.jpg)

>>992751 I only used pandemonium a bit on Victor but, as you said, the acidic spear is just a powerful and better option for acid damage, it even worked against Lax, maybe the arm is more useful against crowds of enemies. There's also an acidic axe you can get by talking to a guy in the endgame zone but i haven't used it, oh and a greatsword too. >>992878 I think It's supposed to be for NG+. besides, you can use the golden tree and reset the quartz.
>>992904 >I think It's supposed to be for NG+. besides, you can use the golden tree and reset the quartz. Yeah I know but it's nice to have a couple of options to switch between. Since you basically have to attune them at a "bonfire" like spells in DS you're stuck with whatever you brought until the next stargazer. >I only used pandemonium a bit on Victor but, Man I wish I realized he was weak to acid. I saw the way he looked and just assumed he was weak to fire like all the other blue things that I had just spent the last couple of hours wading through. I had to resort to throwing bowling balls and wondering why my elemental build had failed me. >as you said, the acidic spear is just a powerful and better option for acid damage I think the handle reaches S scaling with an advance crank. It works great with the Salamander blade too. Spent a good part of the game with that as may main weapon. I'm really glad they followed Bloodborne's example and didn't put too many weapons in the game and made them all guaranteed loot so you can play with them all and experiment.
>>992739 I don't even have the inventory space and never used the puppet string arm in the first place. I just don't see any good reason to drag an enemy towards me other than enemies that throw stuff at you which is more of an annoyance than a real threat. Plus, it's useless against bosses. Why the hell would I want to bring all that weight with me when it has such niche uses?
>>992925 Because if you drop 6 legion calibers into it it works exactly like Shadowrush from Sekiro. No fucking joke. It's like playing an entirely different game.
>>992939 Wait wait wait... so you're telling me this ability is somehow better than having more health? Also, what's the difference between using that and just running up to someone and bashing their skull in other than a possible damage increase and maybe being a little faster? That's pretty much how I've been dealing with the zombies at the cathedral too. Run up to them and do hit the quick slash button a couple times and they are dead. What's best about it is they can't even get a hit in
(4.96 MB 1920x1080 image.png)

First try that boss. She's way easier than Owl I feel. Besides her ghost version (with a much much much bigger stance) was harder I feel. Do I have to follow the giant carp ?
>>993007 You can use legion arms even if you don't really level Advance, that just gives you a longer bar and other than the 3 elemental arms, they scale off of Motivity or Technique. >Also, what's the difference between using that and just running up to someone and bashing their skull in It's a quick closing multi hit combo with the final hard hit hit coming from above, and since most enemies don't have overhead swings if you can get the first hit of the combo in 90% or more of the time you'll get the whole string. And you're doing the actual damage with your weapon the puppet string works with what ever build you have. It seems like that final hit does huge posture and status build up damage (if you've got status applied) too. Like I said before you need 6 free legion calibers that you're willing to spend. Before that point you're better off putting it into one of the elemental arms or the shield. After you unlock the ability to respec you can consider shifting your calibers to different arms. >cathedral That reminds me there's a hidden weapon up in there that you might like. The handle has parry/block frames during attacks. You'll have to really search for it though. >>993010 >Do I have to follow the giant carp ? You don't have to worry about that anon, it'll follow you.

How do the rest of you rate these 4? I wish the other prosthetics has lazulite upgrades.
>>994218 >Shuriken Good for dispatching certain weak enemies like monkies, good for preventing a stronger foe from restoring their poster while at range. Aside from that, they're mostly deflected by pretty much all major bosses and humanoids so they're situational in my book. >Axe I only ever use it to deal with the shield fuckers and the midgets who block conventional attacks with their hats. Another situational ability. >Flame vent Exclusively good against the ogre and that's about it. >Sabimaru Good against Juzou the drunkard, good against elite shinobi, good against some bosses. They're all pretty much situational and you'll get the most value out of being proficient at deflecting. Hence why I hardly ever use any of them.
>>994253 I meant specifically the lazulite upgrades of these 4. The shuriken is just a straight damage upgrade of previous tiers. The sacred flame trades away fire damage for supernatural damage and with living force you can use it like 30 seconds of divine confetti. The saibmaru upgrade has a lingering poison cloud but supposedly loses the piercing effect of the previous tier (that might be fextralife misinfo though). And the axe like the vent trades fire damage for anti spook damage, I'm not sure how good it is because I've never gotten this upgrade.
https://www.gamesradar.com/ive-played-a-billion-soulslikes-and-lies-of-p-is-officially-the-best-one-now-i-want-fromsoftware-to-steal-from-it/ Let's start with the big one. Elden Ring, I love you, but your NPC questlines are obtuse horseshit. FromSoftware's always taken an esoteric approach to quests, with spamming dialogue being a must and random, unknowable events frequently either blocking off quests or advancing them without your knowledge. Souls games are constantly pushing you to explore the world and kill bosses, but if you explore the wrong area or kill the wrong boss too early you run the risk of inadvertently killing, angering, maiming, or pissing off a favorite NPC off-screen. You fool, you absolute buffoon. That, or you'll unwittingly progress their quest by kicking a sheep down a well or something and they'll inexplicably teleport to meet you in the eighth circle of Hell where you now find yourself. Yes, Tarnished, I always swing by the Great Cave of Shrieking Disembowelment in the fall, why do you ask? This has always been kind of ass, to be honest, but it was endearing in a retro way and Siegmeyer was really funny, so we either put up with it or, like Stockholm Syndrome sufferers, somehow convinced ourselves it's actually good design. Then the open world of Elden Ring made it omega ass to trip over arbitrary, invisible quest triggers in a gigantic world that hides NPCs not so much like needles in a haystack but rather hay in a needlestack. It sucks! It's bad! It's the kind of thing that makes me wonder if FromSoftware gets a cut of ad revenue on wiki page views because good luck untangling these Christmas lights without a guide.
>>994386 The issue is that Fromsoft's quest system dated from Demon's Souls, which has completely linear progression, and then they've never updated it or overhauled it. For the other souls games that were more or less linear or at least constrained the system basically works. In a game like Elden Ring that's completely open it falls apart. While Lies of P does have quest markers the real reason it's quest system works so well is because it, like Demon's Souls, is totally linear
>>994386 Another thing is that Miyazaki recently said that he didn't intend for players to use guided. He said he didn't mind if they used a guide to follow questlines but he just intended/assumed that players would naturally encounter things as they naturally played through the game. He even said it was unintentional if it came across as obtuse and apologized. So it's probably just a development blindspot for the souls team. They're just very much in their own heads when developing and planning games.

>>994749 Oh no, they just forgot about it because they were never interested in the first place. I know a guy who plays Elden meme and he seemed confused as to why I would go through the effort to pirate and run the original game when I could more easily pirate the remake that has more stuff in it.
>>994759 In all fairness that anon is quoting from the article he linked. >>994760 Does he not understand aesthetics and art direction?
>>994768 Yeah, as in, "the newer one has higher resolution textures and more pixels and lighting effects, and more detailed models, so it must be better."
>>994759 And that's ok in a linear game, but for an open world game with the emphasis of exploration and fighting bosses, not so much
>>994771 Honestly they should have had a centralized "town" or at least a "town" in each region where you sent all the NPC you find to to do all their quest stuff. Like they've done in past games really. I think the open world thing just caused their design to get away from under them.
>>994782 They kinda tried to do a centralized town in the base game with the Round Table, but not all NPCs came there, and some of them left to do their quest. I think they had the right idea in the expansion to have the NPCs near bonfires that you can teleport to, but didn't always stick to it, like in the Shadow Keep where at least one NPC wasn't near the bonfire, and instead reading a book. Also fuck the Shadow Keep and "Someone broke a great rune". I accidentally entered from the village(so back entgrance) and didn't understand what the fuck was with that message, since I just crossed a random bridge.
>>994759 why are you making excuses for such shit system, why fromdrones are so smug about a company bathing themselves in their clichés while they are perfectly capable of going beyond like in Sekiro

>>994836 You're actually right anon, I never played donkey kong country, mario 64, star control, spiro, pac man, dig dug, galaga, etc. Basically everything that did not in fact have totally arbitrary and obtuse game design
>>994850 Yeah, time passes. Can you believe that there are people who weren't even born when the first Titanic sank? Kids nowadays only got to see the sequel, which wasn't even a ship, but a submarine and there were like only 5 people.
>old = good >new = bad Right right, as if KOTOR wasn't a clunky piece of shit. It could never have been designed better. Especially the camera movement, that is pitch perfect. Those kinds of angles should be in all new games!
>>994829 >>994830 Another thing with Demon's Souls is that it's pretty short, so if you fuck up a quest line you can just redo it the next cycle. BB and Sekiro both follow in that vein. The Souls games + Elden Ring have gradually expanded the scope from game to game with Elden Ring pulling off a big Dobson inflation of scale. >>994830 >or do multiple playthroughs The souls games are really built for multiple playthroughs with how the boss soul mechanic works. It's only ER that grants a bit of leeway since it grants you the ability to dupe boss souls. To go back to the comparison to Lies of P, that game definitely was made with the idea that you would do multiple NG+ cycles. There's no boss soul duping and instaed of the typical Souls "weapon or spell" choice it's a choice of a weapon or a "ring". And the boss soul "ring" in Lies are pretty amazing. Also the P-organ unlocks a new tier or upgrades in NG+ and then an additional one in NG+2. Nioh though is still the all time champ of putting effort and thought into NG cycles. It even changes up enemy placement a bit. And the first time you get punched in the face by a glowing red oni and it deactivates Tears of Denial Bird you'll find yourself realizing that it's time to experiment with your build.
>>994865 Obviously it was designed for multiple playthroughs, you're right. But at the very least you can't screw up a quest over invisible conditions being met. If it didn't have the checkpoint system and you could just have a backlog of saves to undo something you did, it would be at least tolerable but since it's a souls like it's not the least bit tolerable for me. If an npc wants you to do something for him, he should point you in the right direction and not flew the coop before telling you where he is going. It just seems to me like it's just a trivial errand and that said npc doesn't care that much if you actually do the quest line. A game such as Morrowind does not hold your hand but the very least points you in the right general direction
>>994854 The anon went into Elden meme knowing this was there. >>994855 5 guys.
>>994830 >It's almost as if not everyone wants to sift through a bunch of shitty guides or do multiple playthroughs Then the game is not for them. These games all have newgame+, and so are intended for multiple playthroughs. It's like complaining that you have to aim in a rooty tooty point and shooty. If you're not the target audience, and neither were you formerly the target audience of the series, then stop bitching and go play other games. These games were never for you.
>>994865 >It even changes up enemy placement a bit Not only that, enemies get new movesets from what I recall.

I hate newfags who never played a game that didn't hold their hand tightly.

>>995041 >X game also had bad game design None of this is an argument for why it's good game design, because it isn't. It's just an archaic lazy means of story telling and world building that 98% of the playerbase will never interface with because it's inherently poorly designed. I don't know why you think anyone who points this out is a "newfag". People have been ignoring the shitty souls questline systems for 15 years. Acting like a system you can just ignore because it's tedious and only adds story fluff to the game is some sort of epic filter just makes you sound like a retard. >>995044 You can apply "i-it's not meant for you" logic to every single bad design element in existence by that same logic. >>995163 Congratulations. >>995157 I liked the Owl fights because he is a git gud boss for me, more so than even Isshin was. Demon of Hatred though just feels like he's designed as Umbrella=mandatory. I know he's parrayable but just like phase one Ape his tells are just awful. I found it was just easier to turtle when he did the big ground pound and then follow it up with the umbrella attack.
>>995169 the ape is probably the ennemy I hate the most because I don't know when you're supposed to parry, like when he rolls on the ground and throws his tantrums. Hate grabs too. I much prefer his second phase with the sword. Owl is really in character, a cunt turning most of your tricks against you it's funny.
also I have a question : how viable are combat arts on NG+ ? I love the praying strikes because they look cool but I fear I can't cancel block them

Has anyone played Dark Souls: Archthrones? It looks alright, but every other full conversion mod I've used for these games has sucked donkey dick. I don't see why it'd be different.
>>995171 >the ape is probably the ennemy I hate the most because I don't know when you're supposed to parry, like when he rolls on the ground and throws his tantrums. Hate grabs too. I much prefer his second phase with the sword. I agree. I always try to get through his first phase as fast as possible because, even if that meant burning a lot of emblems, because I found his second phase much more reasonable. Even with the AoE terror scream. >Owl is really in character, a cunt turning most of your tricks against you it's funny. You know you're in for it when he mikiri counters you for the first time. Which makes the Owl Father battle even better when he starts Shadow Rushing you and you can pay him back. >>995173 I don't know. I've never taken Sekiro into NG+. That's something that I plan on remedying some time later this year. There IS the Dancing Dragon mask so that might help keep pace. I think it stays with you when you restart as long as you've fully assembled it. That's another thing I've wanted to try, a fresh playthrough but I don't spend any of my skill points until I get to Fountainhead and then drop them all into attack using the Mask. >>995176 I've heard generally good things about it but I've never played it.

>>995182 Unlike most of the other prosthetics the umbrella doesn't just upgrade linearly. The second umbrella basically replaces the first one but the the Lilac and Phoenix umbrellas have their own little niches. They protect against terror and fire buildup respectively but also the umbrellas slash attack deals fire damage with the Phoenix one and does divine confetti type damage. I really like the Lilac one. It makes Headless and Sichimen fights a completely different experience.

Being outed that he's never played older games is what did it, so he's been seething about it.
>>995249 The trick is your character has to complete the animation within the window of the enemies attack. Also, it's more about timing it right before the enemy hits your hit box than when the enemy starts the attack. Also, not sure if you know this but the only way you can get out of a grab is either dodging or running away. >>995289 I've always had a problem with Froms fractured way of telling a story. As of matter of fact I'm pretty sure most people still avoid it when playing these games, especially ds1-3, whereas elden ring seems to have a bit more refined, expanded story. I still see no use in defending poor mechanics that frankly just don't work in an open world setting where a lot of areas blend in with each other. There is no such thing as a perfect game, every game has flaws.
>>995312 >As of matter of fact I'm pretty sure most people still avoid it when playing these games, especially ds1-3 I'm pretty sure most people just play Souls as murderhobos. Outside a few favorite NPC most of them have either unfulfilling quests or unfulfilling interactions or both. >Also, not sure if you know this but the only way you can get out of a grab is either dodging or running away. Sekiro ingrained in me to avoid grabs like the plague.
Whether you love it or hate Fromsoft has been doing this minimalist story telling for 30 years now, and it started with King's Field all the way back on PS1. Anyone who plays these games should very well know what they're getting themselves into at this point.
>>995320 Exactly why I'm playing Lies of P and not Fromsoft games. >>995327 >Uh the rolling animation is the same gotcha! Elden Ring especially with the expansion is quite different from DS3. >>995329 There are some similarities, but with all the other shit added in both the base game and SoE Elden Ring is still ultimately different from DS3. The way stats work in DS3 and Elden Ring alone is should clue one in.
>>995332 So are you actually going to talk about >Horseback combat >Magic and spells blowing anything DS3's magic could out of the water >Jumping and how jumping effects combat and exploration >Ashes of war >How the weapon upgrade system is different >Status aliments and Arcane >Weapon types especially the new ones found in the DLC >How armour works in Elden Ring >Crafting >Stealth >Vigor >Overall exploration
>>995330 It's called noticing a pattern.
>>995335 I'll give you a hint: it's a word that starts with an e
>>995335 I'm generally on your side anon but ER is clearly an incremental development of what DS3 did with some Sekiro mechanics and a dash of Bloodborne flavoring. >Horseback combat Neat concept. I wish they had leaned into it a lot more. >Weapon types especially the new ones found in the DLC Also I wish they had leaned into it a lot more. >Overall exploration I can't help but feel that if you modded DS3 to have an open world you'd get a similar experience. >Jumping and how jumping effects combat and exploration From Sekiro and doesn't do nearly as much with the concept compared to Sekiro due to ER not having a grappling hook. >Ashes of war Basically from Sekiro. >Stealth Also Sekiro. <Scadutree fragments Variant of the prayer bead mechanic from Sekiro. >How the weapon upgrade system is different It's basically just a simplified version of DS3's upgrade system. Half way between DS3 and Bloodborne in fact. >Arcane Basically Luck but renamed. >Magic and spells blowing anything DS3's magic could out of the water >Status aliments >How armour works in Elden Ring >Vigor I'm not sure what you mean by these? >Crafting God how I hate having to craft ammo.
>>995342 Anon you didn't actually argue your point other then show some videos that show similar animations. The anon below did a better job since he bothered to address d46471's list of points. >>995372 But wasn't his point that Elden Ring is different from DS3? If so he's correct ultimately as the two games are different from each other with those add ons even if it shares much of the same DNA.
>>995424 >But wasn't his point that Elden Ring is different from DS3? If so he's correct ultimately as the two games are different from each other with those add ons even if it shares much of the same DNA. Basically yes. Like I said I mostly agreed with him. Elden Ring isn't Dark Souls 3. It's Dark Souls 4. In the same way that Dark Souls is Demon's Souls 2. Of course Bloodborne is the ACTUAL Demon's Souls 2. Umbasa.
I've had my share of fun with the DLC but I'm severely disappointed in just how bad the perfumes are when you're not cheesing things from range with the special ashes of war. It's even worse personally because I was expecting at least SOMETHING that scaled nicely with arcane, I am deeply in love with thematic alchemists but for whatever reason I only like the consumable perfumes. I hope some random mod in a few months time improves or expands on the perfumes in the DLC.
>>995437 That's probably because they nerfed the shit out of them in the last patch.
>>995432 There is an argument to be made that Elden Ring is the spiritual successor to Dark Souls 2, as that game was open world in early production but because of engine limitation and some hardware limitations(though there were plenty of open world games in the PS360 era) they had to massively scale it down to what it became in the end.
>>995453 >There is an argument to be made that Elden Ring is the spiritual successor to Dark Souls 2 I've heard that argument too and I also agree. Even as it is DS2 is semi open world, even more than how the first half of DS1 is.
I FUCKING DID IT BROS. FUCK THAT APE BOSS. IF HE WANTS TO JUMP AROUND LIKE AN APE, HE CAN GO BACK TO AFRICA
>make a new character for the DLC >beat almost the entire game >my body is ready >enter the DLC >quit playing lol
>>995526 That was the first boss that truly gave me a hard time in this game. I had a little bit of difficulty with Victor, in retrospect because it turns out the game classifies him as a human and not a carcass so my load out was wrong for that fight. Now you've got a hell of a boss ergo choice. The Two Dragon Sword, which has a special parry skill when you press and hold heavy attack, or the Ghost Walk Amulet, which gives you i-frames against enemies glowing red attacks.
>>995540 Turns out it wasn't much of a choice because that weapon doesn't scale with my build.
>>995542 Probably a good choice. That was the only one that I regretted not picking the amulet because from here on out being able to dodge fury attacks is really nice.
>>995540 The first phase, the boss is an absolute coward. He'll back up and try to vomit/whip you with his faggot whips. Which wasn't that hard, I crushed him in like a minute and a half one just to be caught off guard in phase 2. The difficulty spike is unreal
>>995545 Yeah and it doesn't help that he changes elemental weaknesses either. Because he possesses a puppet he becomes weak to electricity in the second phase instead of fire.
>>995546 I ended up micromanaging my equipment slots and it distracted me from the enemy. More than two per slot is just too much. I never actually used the extra bag very much until this fight. Also, the puppet string legion arm came in clutch for me in phase 2
>>995547 I don't even remember how I ended up defeating him only that it took dozens of tries. I'm still not sure if you can perfect guard that one attack where he buries underground and then comes bursting up or not. >>995530 Yeah it really does feel like the DLC door is way too late in the game compared to earlier Souls Games.
>>995551 Pretty sure you can't, but maybe you can. I just dodged him at the last moment. I also baited him into his rushing fury attack a few times when I beat him >I don't even remember how I ended up defeating him only that it took dozens of tries I defeated him by perfect parrying 95% of his attacks, even the jumping ones which are a bitch to perfect parry. Dodging is almost worthless in this fight other than the grab or just running away to get a heal in

>>996282 That's not mine never gout around to farming out a complete matching grace set but I do favor that armor a lot, along with the Youngblood, the Attendant's, and the Governor of Tosa's because I like the lopsided look. It looks "lived in" that way.
The one problem I have with souls likes (and really hack and slashes in general, but especially souls likes) is the lack of attack animations your character can have and how much slower you are to like half of all enemies. I honestly think the combat should be treated like a fighting gaming where you press mulitple keys in rapid concession to make a different move/combo. A boss can use like 20 different moves and your stuck with like 6. A lot of these games you can become a god, then why wouldn't you resemble any of the other gods as your power grows? Why do you have to eek out victory after victory when you should be able to stomp normal enemies/mini bosses out. Part of the problem to me is that everything is very incremental as you level up, especially the numerical stats. Don't get me wrong, I still want the game to be hard and I love the feeling of beating a boss after like a dozen tries. But your own character pretty much always sucks donkey dick with no moves and no speed in the process.
>>996317 >I honestly think the combat should be treated like a fighting gaming where you press mulitple keys in rapid concession to make a different move/combo I don't agree with this sentiment. While I do think action games ranging from simpler ones like God of War on PS2 to more complex ones like Devil May Cry 3 are great and fun to play, I also think that action games that give you a very limited amount of moves to perform like Sekiro are also great and fun to play, as they do require mastering the precise timing of those attacks. Plus the thing with Sekiro is that most enemies and bosses are built with that limited moveset of Sekiro in mind. I also think games in which you press the attack button, wait 2 seconds for the character to do that action and there is no animation cancelling can be enjoyable as well, as they also require careful planning and good reactions. I think something like Dark and Darker implemented the slow animation system well enough. The problem is when you have a slow character like the one in Dark Souls 1 and put him into a game like Sekiro, and I have heard complaints like that about Elden Ring, but honestly I haven't had that much of a problem, as the character in ER is faster than the one in DS1.
>>996322 This kind of mentality is why I'm getting bored of hack and slash rpgs. The fact is, timing would be even more important in this scenario especially in a souls like
>>996317 >the problem I have with soulslikes is that they aren't Tekken
>>996317 for me it's movement like rolling and attacks being tied to stamina
>>996367 No not like tekken, I just want a mechanic borrowed from it so the games can have a much deeper, customizable moveset. I don't want all the games to do it, but it would be nice if an actually good souls like was made with this mechanic. You can not tell me you're not at least curious how it would turn out.
>>996381 Would something like Clash: Artifacts of Chaos be what you want? Admittedly I haven't tried it, but I do know it's from the devs who made that first person brawler, Zeno Clash.
>>996384 Wow, thank you anon. I'm going to try it out.
>>995372 >Magic and spells blowing anything DS3's magic could out of the water <I'm not sure what you mean by these? Magic is massively improved in ER and is an actual viable playstyle from beginning to end even as a 100% pure caster of either FTH, INT, or a mix of the two. You're no longer forced into being a spellsword (at least until the 60-70% point where you can switch to a soul arrow/fireball spammer for int or int/fth in DS3) in order to beat the game, aren't outclassed by an infused low-reqs UGS, and the spell variety is massive instead of 20 different kinds of the same projectile or massively FP inefficient garbage you'd never use for PvE as a sane player. Makes the caster experience actually fun AND pure FTH caster actually becomes a non-challenge-run thing for the first time in the series. >>996317 Try Salt & Sanctuary and Salt & Sacrifice. Sacrifice is a fair downgrade and has shoehorned-in monhun elements, but both games have really good movesets on their weapons that are modified by your direction keys and the order you chain light and heavy together. Some weapons have a lot less moves than others, like greatswords having basically a DS1 moveset with a launcher move tacked on, but most other weapons on the roster get decent movesets with a mix of stunlock combos, launchers, gap closing moves, multihits, etc etc depending on the weapon. Sacrifice even has the coolest rapier moveset I've seen in a souls-like, in which they are designed around a "dance in dance out" moveset where they can backstep out of combat and go right back in with far-reaching slide moves. I'll post some more moveset examples later from both games, ain't got time for much right now.
>>996390 I'll check these out too
>>996377 >>996317 You should try Nioh which lets you active reload your stamina or Sekiro which jettisons it entirely. I guess I should also say try Wo Long which makes your stamina your MP bar and you can control how much you have by doing physical attacks BUT I'm not sure whether or not I really want to encourage people to play Wo Long. It's not awful but it's not great either. It's combat is almost a weird Musou/Nioh hybrid and it just doesn't quite jell.

So, I just got caught on the nameless puppet boss in lies of p. After 30 tries, I just uninstalled it. I am 100% positive the devs didn't play test it with a strength build. All the videos I've seen on jewtube of them easily beating the boss is all fucking cheese lol. I can't remember the weapon, but in one of them the player character kept stun locking the enemy with a quick dex weapon with the same attack nonstop until it was killed, pretty much to the point the boss couldn't even get a hit in (my problem exactly). What's worse is all the comments that said he was good, fuckinf lol. And no, I'm not respecing to a dex build to beat the boss either
>>996553 Well did you try just cheesing?
>>996577 No, I never tried cheesing. You want to know what was most frustrating about the boss? Whenever there was a pause, he'd leap waaaay back so I can't hit him with my slow moving club. If I used puppet string, he'd just charge forward. What a fucking garbage boss
>>996582 You probably should've just gone with the basic bad ending route instead then on your first playthrough.
>>996553 Anon have you been using consumable projectiles? They can break bosses and the shot put is specifically strength scaling. >After 30 tries IS THAT ALL?! That's like saying "I quit Sekiro after Isshin bodied me 30 times." >strength build Switch to the fastest handle that you can get. Or the longest handle. In my case when I got stuck on him I had to switch the acid spear handle based weaponry that I had been using for most of the game for the rock drill handle. That thing breaks shit up. I'm sure if you slapped the axe blade or the pizza cutter blade, or the lightning hammer on it you could fuck up Gormless Puppy with a STR build. >If I used puppet string, he'd just charge forward. Fully upgraded? I used the Puppet String on him and it worked like a dream. And as far as STR builds go you can get a big fucking bonk stick from Simons ergo. It increases your acquired ergo as a passive effect too. >>996593 Yeah I would say so. The game expects you to play through it at lest twice to get all the content anyway. I hear NG+ is actually easier in many ways.
>>996597 >just cheese the boss by abusing throwables How about no. >Switch to the fastest handle that you can get. Right, I should have to switch to a dex handle or the longest handle that will still be out of reach and not quick enough to react to the enemy. Lol what a fucking joke boss. >Fully upgraded? I used the Puppet String on him and it worked like a dream. Yes, fully upgraded and it never worked. He either hit me before I could strike him in the air, or he fucking dashed forward the fucking cunt. >And as far as STR builds go you can get a big fucking bonk stick from Simons ergo. That's what I was using for 50% of my playthrough against him, painfully too slow and I was constantly interrupted in my fury attack
If you have to resort to throwables in a boss fight for your build to work, that boss is dumpsterfire trash. Fight me
Every jewtube link I've seen against the nameless puppet with a strength build spammed throwables too lol
>>996609 >just cheese the boss by abusing throwables It's not cheese it's literal a game mechanic. You're even limited by how much you can carry at a time and you need to buy P-organ upgrades to expand that even a little. That's like complaining that using the pulse cell is cheesing. >>996611 Anon this is a Bloodborne clone, of course you're suppose to be fast. Hell in most Souls games heavy builds are either things that only come together late game or are something you have to saved for NG+. >puppet string Here's something you need to know. Even though it's amazing, you are vulnerable to being flinched out until you make first contact and are headed up in the air. You have to pick your times. Especially against someone like NP who has a similar skill set to BF Friede and Maria. >>996613 Have you considered just leveling up until you can deal with him?
>>996614 I aint over leveling either lol >It's not cheese it's literal a game mechanic. You are picking the easiest method to win that takes 0 effort. That is the very definition of cheese >That's like complaining that using the pulse cell is cheesing. That's different. Pulse cells are a necessity in lies of p. I wasn't requires to use throwables up to that point and just sold them whenever I got them and I shouldn't be required to with this boss >Here's something you need to know. Even though it's amazing, you are vulnerable to being flinched out until you make first contact and are headed up in the air. You have to pick your times. Thing is usually that didn't happen, he'd just dash forward 75% of the time
>>996617 You could have tried Falcon Eyes. That's a STR scaling arm. >You are picking the easiest method to win that takes 0 effort It's not zero effort. You can still very easily die or waste your items. >That is the very definition of cheese No cheesing would be like getting him caught in a AI loop and abusing it or getting him hung on a piece of level geometry. >Thing is usually that didn't happen, he'd just dash forward 75% of the time I don't know what to tell you anon. I never had a serious problem with it not working once I discovered the weakness of the Puppet String.
Also I don't know if you knew it but you can always submit to Geppetto even after you defied him, from the stargazer right before the final fog door.
>>996474 Finished Sekiro it's so much better in every aspect than ER for sure, I should try Nioh. Nioh 1 or 2 ? Dumb question but I want to be sure
>>996613 >Every jewtube link I've seen against the nameless puppet with a strength build spammed throwables too lol Spoilers for the uninitiated. https://invidious.privacyredirect.com/watch?v=qWjo3hhSyIk https://invidious.privacyredirect.com/watch?v=wuO_3dm4bkI
>>996644 Do Nioh first. Living Weapon is far more fun and versatile than Yokai Shift. Also Nioh 2 is both a sequel and a prequel and directly references the first game's story at parts. Please share you outfits as you play along anon. I miss people doing that.
>>996646 ok I'll keep that in mind. Other question : when I type Nioh I also got "wo long fallen dynasty" suggested, is it from the same studio ? Also the first Nioh is at 11 euros on steam is it good enough
>>996627 I would rather slit my own wrists. >>996621 Don't have the plug for it lol >You can still very easily die or waste your items. Yeah you'll die easily if you're a moron And it is 0 effort >No cheesing would be like getting him caught in a AI loop and abusing it or getting him hung on a piece of level geometry. Using throwables will never not be cheesey >I don't know what to tell you anon. I never had a serious problem with it not working once I discovered the weakness of the Puppet String. Yeah well, it's not exactly reliable for me. I'll get a hit like 5% of the time because of his faggot dash forward
>>996645 Maybe my weapons are dumpsterfire trash then, I perfect parried all his attacks phase 1 with no damage. The only special weapon I have is the giant club, I took amulets every other time
>>996645 Also that guy you posted barely beat him. Have a look at this: https://youtube.com/watch?v=pTW2DiHQ4g8&pp=ygUkbGllcyBvZiBwIG5hbWVsZXNzIHB1cHBldCBubyBkYW1hZ2Ug and you tell me it's not unfairly skewed towards a dex build
(1.31 MB 731x926 bushido bill.png)

>>996647 >Other question : when I type Nioh I also got "wo long fallen dynasty" suggested, is it from the same studio ? Yes it is. If you've not played Nioh 1 and 2 then I can't really describe the differences without many paragraphs and probably a few spoilers. tl;dr It's more action oriented than the 2 Nioh games and it's set in 3 Kingdoms era China instead of Sengoku period Japan. PLAY BOTH NIOH GAMES BEFORE WO LONG. >Also the first Nioh is at 11 euros on steam is it good enough Yeah that's a great price. Make sure to summon and fight every revenant you can. Have fun anon. >>996658 >Don't have the plug for it lol There's no way that you can't have the plug for it. There's enough plugs for all of the legion arms in the game. You'd have to respec calibers but that's trivial. Did you see the links I posted? >>996645 >>996659 >The only special weapon I have is the giant club, I took amulets every other time That's not ideal. The special weapons are really fun and are strong if they match your build.. I love the one you get from Laxasia. And if I had done a strength build then I would have used the Sword of the Ark and the Seven Branched sword for my entire playthrough probably. Maybe you should consider an new playthrough from scratch. And do ALL the side quests this time. You're probably missing quartz for Porgan upgrades too.
>>996660 >and you tell me it's not unfairly skewed towards a dex build Oh no doubt, like I said before this is a Bloodborne clone. But strength is totally viable. The only thing that is truly difficult with strength is getting the hit in to break their posture with bigger, slower STR weapons. That's why shot puts are recommended for that but it's still dooable if you refuse. Just keep a quicg STR weapon in your other hand just for posture breaking purposes. >barely beat him Barely still counts.
(67.40 KB 1000x750 1620552039036.jpg)

>Get to Margit >He beats my ass 70 something times >Basically infinites me to death by suddenly throwing daggers at the end of his combos whenever i try to heal >Somehow manage to kill him >Get to Godrick >He's much more manageable than Margit >Actually he's just piss easy >Longer windows for punishing and doesn't cancels his combos to other combos to other combos like he's playing BlazBlue or some shit >Kill him on my first try I know souls bosses tend to drop the ball during the later half, but it's the first dungeon of the fucking game. Great balancing you dorks.
>>996664 He eeked it out. You could easily just say it was rng because he barely ever perfect blocked
>>996684 >>He beats my ass 70 something times That was Margit telling you that you should explore the world more, before fighting against him. If you are a sorcerer, go find your magic teacher, if you want to do some arcane build fight your first dragon and get it's power, explore some of the smaller dungeons to get equipment, maybe go to the southern part of the map at Castle Morne to fight a much easier boss for a decent sword, all while naturally leveling up by simply killing the enemies you encounter while exploring the mini dungeons. Had you explored you could have found Patches who would have sold you Margit's Shackle that allows you to stun lock him twice in battle. You could have done that, or just brute force every difficult fight until you win.
>>996684 Godrick & Rennala are both pretty easy. After that they get harder. It's also dependent on your weapons. Margit can be beaten easily the first time if you just have the Bloodhound's fang & your summons.
>>996684 It's called level up and put on your big boy pants.
>>996734 Can't you actually bypass Margret?
>>996661 So I redownloaded lies of p, now I'm ALL the way back to the fucking hotel part before the final levels of the game and I'm pissed. Now I have to go through the absolute slog that is the final levels of the game. I think I'm just done with this fucking game where there's a ton of reskined enemies and new enemies which are all annoying to fight, not actually challenging to the point the only way you can fuck up is if you just get angry and start wailing on them and die because of it or some bullshit where you forget that an enemy explodes when it dies and sends you down a 30 story drop. I'm also fucking sick of souls games with clunky controls (for parkouring) making you parkour in order to progress in the game. It's just fucking annoying. The devs were clearly trying to get me die in a bunch of cheap ass ways and I fucking hate the for it. There's also no fucking reason for the fog effect either other than to try to confuse you of where the fuck you're supposed to go because almost everything looked the fucking same at a certain point in the final levels of the game
>>997087 You could just give it a break for a while and give it a fresh go when the Yellow Brick Road gets activated.
>>997069 Yes actually. You can use cliffs & Torrent on where the bridge ruins are to skip to Liurnia. Far as I know it shouldn't mess with any quest progression just doing that. Now if you got the medallion halves to go to Altus Plateau & activate a grace there then it automatically activates the Radahn festival. So don't do that if you wanna actually do character quests.
>>996684 How do you die 70 times to Margit? The only boss in the game I can genuinely see anyone dying to 70 times on their first time through the game is Malenia.
>>997505 From early on ER's progressions has struck me as being kind of off, and I don't mean in the muh invisible trigger breaking NPC quest lines sort of way. Like why am I fighting half of these people? Both from a narrative and just from a gameplay POV. You need two Great Runes to get past the golden door and from Fire Giant on it's more like typical Fromsoft boss gating but other than that it all optional. More over most of the remembrance rewards aren't great and the ones that are very likely to be useless to your specific build. Just some odd design choices.
>>996597 two handed heavy weapons are borderline unplayable in the latter half of the game. if there are no real advantages to using something in a game, then it frankly shouldn't even be in the game or the devs should get off their fatasses and fix it. the fact of the matter is that the parry animation is too slow, you get staggered too easily with them, and the most you can do is get a single hit in when fighting 90% of the bosses in the game. not only this but if you just slap a weapon blade on a single handed handle you are going to be doing the same exact damage as one with a two handed handle when it's rated the same grade in motivity but you will have an EVEN HIGHER dps. i don't blame him for quitting, i blame the devs for having 0 grasp of how to balance a game whatsoever
>>998236 >two handed heavy weapons are borderline unplayable in the latter half of the game. if there are no real advantages to using something in a game, then it frankly shouldn't even be in the game or the devs should get off their fatasses and fix it. the fact of the matter is that the parry animation is too slow, you get staggered too easily with them, and the most you can do is get a single hit in when fighting 90% of the bosses in the game. I don't disagree with you there. I hit a wall with Lax's second phase. I never could break her open with a charged heavy. She would always dash away before I could. Thankfully the shot put exists.
>>998293 >I never could break her open with a charged heavy. which wouldn't be a big deal if the devs gave you hyper armor to actually complete the fucking animation, a dex weapon should not easily be able to easily interrupt that anyway. you know like dark souls and elden ring did with big heavy weapons? but apparently you're a big cry baby for critiquing a game that's a 7/10 at most
(779.45 KB 4096x2304 F9Iv6YwbIAABw9E.jpg)

>>998317 >which wouldn't be a big deal if the devs gave you hyper armor to actually complete the fucking animation I agree you need SOME KIND of hyper armor in the game, even if it was in the form of an amulet, or a P-organ upgrade, or even just a weapon that innately has hyper armor. That was never my my problem with fighting Frankenmommy though. All the hyper armor in the world wouldn't have helped me. She just wasn't there when I took a swing. And I was using a pretty light weight weapon too. Not the lightest and quickest but far from the heaviest. The problem with Lax is that she's suppose to be both a parry boss and a skill check boss but she's placed way too late in the game. It would be like if you didn't really need to deflect in Sekiro until you get to Isshin. And she's so fucking fast too. About half the time I would enter phase 2 and she would basically spawn kill me Watchdog of the Old Lords style. She gave more trouble and caused more deaths than Nameless Puppet, by a mile.
>>998350 she was easy for me. phase one was easy and phase 2 i just perfect blocked all her lightning bolt attacks and cornered the bitch so she can't just run off
currently on a soulsborne marathon. played DS and DeS (PS3) last year. this yyear played BB, DS2 SotFS, DS3 and now currently on Sekiro before playing ER. fav was DS. least fav was DeS Sekiro seems interesting. it's more straightforward and requires pure skill to git gud instead of grinding levels or refining weapons.

>>998388 We'll that was kind of what I was meaning. If you can pp gud then she won't be a problem; If you're like me and can't, she's absolutely hell on wheels. But her boos weapon makes it all worthwhile. God I love this thing.
I'm going to buy elden meme and if I don't like it, I'm going to be mad
elden ring is terribly overrated. made a whole bunch of snobby fans that think they're superior because they got through a game without a quest marker.
>>998639 Better to have an inflated sense of elitism over game skill than to allow every nigger who downloaded subway surfer on their goyphone to believe they're a gamer.
>>998639 You aware that older games had no quest markers and didn't care if you failed a quest?
>>998667 so did the og fallouts and i consider them far superior games. fetch quests where you are expected to comb through the entire map and find an item (or item and in many instances, people you have to find) will never not be dogshit and that's pretty much the entirety of elden ring. pretty much all older games gave you directions so you can complete a quest. im sure you'll ignore that too kek
>>998639 >>998677 How to tell someone didn't play older games the post. Everything you cry about in Elden Ring was very present in older games.
Oh the guy butthurt over Elden Ring's quests filtering him is back.
>>998690 never said it wasn't, but 99% of the time they did actually give you directions in an open world game
>b-but it's not dat type of gayme! there's a reason why the user score on metacritic is so low and it has nothing to do with you being "skilled" by abusing iframes and summons
