anime or anime styled openings Anonymous 07/29/2024 (Mon) 16:18:33 Id: a5b823 No. 995237
I've been feeling a bit nostalgic for these recently. I know that these kinds of openings still exist in modern games, but many of them feel so soulless. Not that I could tell you why.

>>995237 You know you could've put a lot of these videos in a single post, right?
>>995244 Oh really? I thought there was an arbitrary limit on video uploads.
>>995246 how did you even get here newfriend

(3.25 MB 1280x720 yes assssssss.mp4)

I remember thinking Blazblue should totally get its own anime. Then it did and I never watched it. Heard it was bad though. Opening is still sick.
>>995257 I am unfortunately not new, just retarded.
>>995265 BBCSII for the 3ds was my introduction to the series, "Shinsou" has been burned into my brain.
>>995257 also I meant videogame anime openings, this is cool tho
>>995285 Oh I forgot about this!! It was cute! though it crashed in me several times when I streamed it here and havent touched it since
Anime openings seemed to be really prolific during the fifth gen on PS1 and Saturn, and then died out very soon into the aughts outside of "low budget" projects like fighters and RPGs.

>>995285 Was that back before he combined both games into a complete Season 1? I think he ended up doing a bunch of overhauls before the newest release. Might see if you can find a copy of the complete first season floating around out there, but even if you can't - you're not missing much. Cute as it is, the game is basically made for six year olds so they're very short and almost impossible to lose. Really hoping he goes back and fleshes them out more fully one of these days.
Whoops, meant >>995296 for >>995288
Yeah, it seems like a lot of companies quickly switch over to either pre-rendered or in-engine openings from the PS2 onwards. Even something like DBZ Budokai was done in-engine despite literally being the anime opening.
>>995304 It's substantially cheaper than traditional hand-drawn animation, most likely. In engine graphics weren't good enough on the PSX/Saturn to really show off what the designers wanted, and it often just came off as looking cheap - especially after Final Fantasy 7 which used much higher quality 3D renders.

(13.35 MB 854x470 Tales of the Abyss OP.mp4)

The "Tales of" games usually have good anime openings in them. Hell, even Tales of Arise had a pretty good OP despite that game being complete gutter trash that no sane man should play... Well, it's at least a good OP until you get past the 2/3 mark of the game and the OP changes to some kind of nostalgiabait song trying to rip off Vesperia's opening but with none of the upbeat qualities and an intro with the MCs just standing around looking depressed. I swear I had Vesperia's, Berseria's, and Graces F's OP saved somewhere, too, but I sadly either don't or named the files badly and can't find them.
>>995339 >tales of arise is trash Did you try Scarlet Nexus? I heard a lot of people comparing the two. I personally liked the combat quite a lot but the story is nonsense.
Rune Factory 4 had a anime opening, and was pretty dang enjoyable as a game
Let me know if this file works or not.

A couple of iconic ones.
>>995355 Look, I'm not going to derail a whole thread going on about how much I hate Arise. But know that I despise it, a lot, for many personal reasons and factual/concrete reasons, and a lot of it can be traced back to ideas from Scarlet Nexus brought over as cost-saving measures and the games being in dev around the same time. I thought about trying it when it came out but passed it up for other games, and after Arise I will never touch it out of personal spite for it and especially the stupid comic-book-exposition that the Director of Tales of Arise insisted on replacing the series staple skit system with. So no, I have zero interest in Scarlet Nexus. Also, went and got the three OPs for those other tales games I mentioned. Vesperia's is in English though because I think the English version of the song has a better cadence with the lyrics.
>>996941 Can't see shit captain.
>>997379 Yup, that's what I thought. I've tried reuploading it multiple times to no avail, the backend ends up fucking up the upload. https://files.catbox.moe/wbhuco.webm Notably I've tried uploading it onto Catbox, and it plays just fine there, so it must be 8chan-specific. I've raised an issue at >>>/site/9550 concerning this weird glitch.
>>997322 How good is Tales of Vesperia? I have it on my shelf right here
>>997396 I thought it was good enough. Not the best Tales of game out there, but it's a solid recommendation. >>997322 Arise was a complete shitshow. The fucking thing dragged out 80 hours and barely felt like 1/3 of a normal Tales of game in terms of story pacing and character development, and the gameplay was turned into a damage-sponge filled slog due to the revamped break system. The entire finale of the game was rushed, leading to plot dumps and what amounts to a long hall-way run filled with mini-bosses. And I'm still pissed off they didn't get a better artist to take over from Fujishima. People bitch about Kubo's style in Sakura Wars, but at least it had personality and it's own identity - rather than looking like some generic gatcha trash the way Arise does. >>997150 I've started Jade Cocoon like 20 times, and I never manage to get any further than Dragonfly Forest because the gameplay just doesn't hook me. Phantasy Star Universe was specifically designed to resemble an anime - being broken up into 13 or so chapters and having episode previews at the end. The previews ended up being much better quality than the general VOs because the actors could just be goofy in-character and not have to worry about Sega's crap direction and poor localization - but I hate that intro, so I'm not posting it. Have PSP2's opening instead
Shit, forgot one.
>>997150 >>997413 Already posted
>>997465 They're the non-jap versions. While the singing in the japanese version of Wild Arms 2's opening is good quality I feel purely instrumental music more closely matches the spaghetti western vibes that Wild Arms was going for. That being said it is not much of an addition to the thread so if some mod wants to remove them it shouldn't be an issue. Could also expand the discussion to talk about how the openings differ between regional versions of the games.
>>997413 You know, with how atmospheric these are, especially the Wild Arms 2 OP, I'm very surprised I've never seen a parody of them for one of the many western-setting RPGs that have came out over the years. Even for something like the Black Isle/obsidian fallout games. Makes me think, there used to be a really good MMD re-animation of the Tales of Xillia opening using characters from Touhou 13: Ten Desires, but I can't seem to find it on jewtube anymore, guess copyright got it or the original creator wanted the re-upload taken down, as it was a nicovideo re-upload. >>997396 It's pretty good, Not the best game in the series, but certainly not the worst. A lot of people rate it very highly, often placing it in the top 5 of the series. The XBOX360/base version has some issues compared to the deluxe re-release though, namely some characters having incomplete/bad movesets like Estelle and Karol. They're still playable but they feel a lot more like Colette and Presea from Symphonia in the sense of "needs player control and only has very limited and precise combo routes when controlled, otherwise a spellbot/waste of space."
>>995237 Anyone have the opening to Psychic Force? That and Megaman X4 were the two games I most associated with "anime opening" growing up with only a hand me down PSX I got from my brother.
>>999548 >good MMD re-animation of the Tales of Xillia opening using characters from Touhou 13: Ten Desires This one? https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm20119309 Would yt-dlp but that requires (((registration))) now.
