Isometric and Tactics stuff Anonymous 08/06/2024 (Tue) 19:02:12 Id: 713ded No. 998241
So, anything new on this genre. Closest i have seen is that new gachashit game Sword of Convallaria Looks neat, but sadly is both gachashit and Chinese made, so probably has spyware somewhere

>>998244 Fuck you I like this genre First 2 aren't isometric but kings-vein just came out. I played their previous game Horizion's gate and that was pretty fun, but it kicked my ass hard since the game is open world and doesn't tell you what areas will destroy you. (well, kinda sorta open world, in the over-world you mostly just sail from town to town with Oregon Trail style food mechanics where you need to make sure you don't starve before you make it to wherever you're going.) Dead Weight is slated for released according to steam, that fits the description. Also if you want something weird popup dungeon has isometric strategy RPG combat, but you make your own custom characters down to how their skills work. the game auto-balances itself around what you build so it's kinda fair, and also has a bunch of campaigns for you to play through with this weird meta equipment system outside of runs. Its neat. it also hosts a bunch of player made characters, monsters and campaigns. I keep hoping I can convince a drawfag to get into it and end up with a weird shitpost campaign I can play through.
>>998514 I didn't like Horizon's Gate very much. Past the first hour you can just generate infinite money by trading around, taking away all and any challenge the game offers. Voidspire Tactics is simply amazing. It's a JRPG/tactical hybrid with a heavy emphasis on character progression and exploration. The game's economy and item progression is the best in any game I've ever played. There's just something magical about scrounging up your first 50 gold and deciding which piece of steel of gear you'll buy first and which party member will get to equip it. The bosses are challenging, the music's pretty damn good, and there's a metric fuck ton of secrets to find. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys either JRPGs or tactical combat. King's Vein is similar to Voidspire (same dev), but I haven't played it enough to rate it. It does seem very similar to Voidspire though, so chances are it's also quite good.

>>998241 Is there anything out there new that's visually FFT/FFTA like?
>>998611 Maybe Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark? It's a few years old, but I think that outside of that particular entry you'd be forced to dig through indie games to find that kind of sprite work.
>>998611 Triangle Strategy?
>>998241 >Chinese game >looks like japanese old game Fuck, China always try to cover their shit in japanese stuff before entering the western market, fuck gacha >>998640 >Triangle Strategy Wasn't that kinda sjw-ish?
Jagged Allaince 3 is pretty good. Does a lot of things better than JA2, at the cost of some odd choices (burst does reduced damage, overly small merc cap) but they're easily fixed with mods and even with them it's a solid game and worthy of the name.
>>998681 >Triangle Strategy ENG translation got turbofucked for some reason. Which is really bizarre because it's the only team Asano game with a translation that's on its level of bad. Excluding feminine language (she, her, her's, a woman's X, etc), removing and reworking story bits to avoid insults to women, completely changing characters to insert socialist talking points, and a whole other mess of things. No other translation is that messed with either, it's just the ENG one. Everything else is 99% accurate. It's really strange too, considering Octopath Traveler 2 had basically no translation issues or """liberties""" taken outside of mistranslated skill descriptions and that came out afterward. Maybe the sub-studio was actually pissed about how bad the TL was? >>998611 Cross Tails? I guess. It's very much a low budget title and is pretty grindy, though.
>>998763 The script from listening to the Japanese dub is still bad by itself, it's just that the English translation editing just makes it worse.
>>998687 >they're easily fixed with mods What mods would you recommend to do so?
>>998640 >>998681 The story was retarded anyways: >northern nation is known to be sneaky backstabbers who bum rush their enemy's capital >central nation has the entire northern part of their territory unprotected with no scouts, no watchtowers, no military to prevent northern invasions >north invades and surrounds the central nation's capital with a massive army WITHOUT THE CENTRAL NATION HAVING ANY FUCKING CLUE Yeah, no. If your story kills suspension of disbelief with that level of disregard for reality, then your story is garbage.
>>998892 Just >Custom Settings to enable drop everything, unlimited merc cap and show chance to hit >Descriptive Chance to Hit if you don't want to just get the raw percent >Smart Overwatch makes characters automatically select the most visible body part or a bodypart of your choice when in overwatch >I'm not sure which mod makes burst have normal damage and works on current version but I'm sure there's one
>>998898 That's most video games, a lot of their stories hinge on you being a one man army, a lot of stealth games hinge on enemies being both deaf and blind, and there are no strategy or tactics games that portray these things realistically.
(297.42 KB 610x1052 Growlanser Wayfarer of Time.jpg)

Why haven't any games tried to ape what Growlanser had going on? The battle system is amazing once you get into it. >>998244 Not every thread needs to start with a massive wall of text. The OP is just to get the ball rolling.
>>1004804 Only game I know off the top of my head that uses an hex grid is the Kings Bounty reboot series, which apes HoMM but really doesn't match to it (starting with the whole hex grid business but army cap are decided by your character rather than production limits. The was also that one freeware hyper autistic mech strategy game I can't recall the name of. which had a hex grid, if someone else knows the name I'd be interested as well.
One of my favourite games on the 3DS was the Shadow War Tom Clancy game. It wasn't great but it was a solid four stars with a decent cast of six operators and a challenge mode that added some replayability. Worth checking out IMO. >>1004865 >Not every thread needs to start with a massive wall of text. The OP is just to get the ball rolling. I hate OPs that are single topic but which include a wall of text about the OP's opinion on the matter. I always start my generals with a few lines and then post my opinion in the reply so it doesn't clog up the page with my retarded take on the subject everytime. >>998241 Kudos to this thread's OP for doing it right.
>>1004875 >generals Generals are bad. Threads should be specific and have a point. If you don't have a point, don't make a thread. Generals were mandated by moot because bronies kept posting thread after thread for no reason other than "I didn't see one on the front page," so the rule had to be made to have one "pony general" thread. Back then, everyone else knew to actually have a point to a thread, and not just "discuss thing in general." If you have nothing to say, then don't say anything.
>>1004869 Maybe some battletech/mechwarrior game. There's also battle for wesnoth which is fantasy game.
>>1006842 Wasn't it Katawa Shoujo that started it?
>>1006884 Technically even Warhammer Wednesdays that lead to the creation of /tg/ could be considered that. But that was more "Talk about Warhammer so the furries don't fag up another day on /b/"
