Tolkien elves were a Mary Sue race that harnessed the potential for diversity offered by their longevity and broken abilities, which produced
>great smiths (Mahtan, Feanor, Enerdhil, Celebrimbor)
>great poets (Daeron, Maglor)
>great hunters
>great warriors (Glorfindel, Fingolfin)
>great kings
>great "women"/females (Luthien, Arwen)
>elves that got old and bitter (Elrond, Galadriel)
>great adventurers (Finwe, Amrod)
>great craftsmen (Miriel, Nerdanel)
They used to have epic and tragic lives, dying sometimes like heroes against the worst abominations imaginable or of suicide due to grief.
Their qualities included strength, wisdom, bravery, beauty (only a fraction of females were defined by how pretty and feminine they were btw), wit and righteounsness.
Modern media only surfs on the coombait aspect sprinkled with superficial references to the other things that used to make elves elves. Elves became a tell tale sign of lazy writing, I can't think of many exceptions.
