FLCL Thread. Anonymous 09/16/2023 (Sat) 20:51:09 No. 3642
FLCL's back and just as awful after progressive. The latest FLCL sequel, FLCL Grunge and it's filled up with crappy Lolcalization and other modern crap. https://archive.ph/zg68h Anyone else found Mamimi to be a pretty shitty chick in retrospect? Thought she was pretty interesting back when I saw this show as a kid and later realized the whole the point in hindsight was that Naota was trying too hard to seem adult as a kid when he's way over in his head as to what that actual entails, or am I remembering wrong?

>>3642 mamimi was always a dumb bitch, yeah, her boyfriend left so she was trying to get attention from his kid brother instead. also she smokes cigarettes with writing on them and dreams of burning buildings, low-key psycho cunt; nice lips tho
>>3642 Even the last attempt at an FLCL sequel didn't work but this is really bad. FLCL was a shitpost experiment by passionate skilled people. You can't replicate that again because it has no larger narrative to be told. You also just can't recreate that energy with 3D animation.
>>3642 >that animation >that dub >that dialogue >that (((localized))) rant I haven't watched FLCL yet, but I still feel offended and sorry for fans of the original series.
>>3642 The people at Toonami/Williams Street just need to accept the fact they're just a bunch of out of touch gen-x'ers, that having ANN and Cunchyhole constantly blowing smoke up your ass is really a huge negative and that they just can't into anime, no matter how hard they try. cough, cough, Big O S2
>>3642 I'm pretty impressed with how consistently disappointed I can be in sequels. Everything about this sucks. >>3644 (checked) Yeah sometimes you just gotta let it rest. That doesn't make as much money though I guess. >>3646 >Big O I gotta watch that again. I remember almost nothing about it, but the theme still gets stuck in my head despite not having watched it since it aired the first time.
>>3647 What makes money is merch but they haven't done much there either.
>>3646 For as much bad rap as 4kids had, Series 3 of Sonic X (you know, the 'Metarex' arc?) hadn't turned out this awful. Series 3 of Sonic X was commissioned for the same reason the Warners commissioned those two FLCL series (that being: good audience turnout).

>>3644 Try telling that to pics related.

>>3652 I just did a little bit of research and and here's what I found out from their IMDb pages: Neither the writer nor the director have much history making anime. The most experience in anything animation related between the two is a short series that eventually got made into a movie by the two of them together back in 2012 named After School Midnighters and, of course, it's 3D animated as well.
>>3655 Correction: The writer hasn't worked on After School Midnighters, so it's just the director that has some experience. My bad, I got confused navigating IMDb.
>>3656 >>3655 Heard the studio only ever did commercials. Also, Grunge and Shoegaze are only three episodes each. https://nitter.net/MakiTerashima/status/1703260798091739474
>>3655 >>3656 >>3657 Wasn't there another 3D anime within the past few years that was done by a director who had ONLY worked on live-action productions, and it had some of the worst cinematography and action scenes anyone had every seen?
>>3658 Ex-arm or whatever it's called is the only one that comes to mind.

>>3652 >The show was not written by anyone in LA >#MeToo ref comes up in Haro's dialog cause lol sooo ransdumb :PPP
