J-36 - 6th Gen Stealth Fighter /k/ommando 04/19/2025 (Sat) 02:57:29 No. 12867
The Chinese CAC's 6th generation J-36 was seen flying again
>>12867 the worlds scariest flying dorito pretty neat though, did anyone figure out what it's exhast really looks like? also loud as fuck
>>12867 Rcs check?
What weapons does China current have in service (or known in export production, ie, can easily be in service) that fits in this thing’s weapons bay? Do they have any munitions available besides air-to-air missiles? it strikes me that every time I see anything smaller than a bomber from China it’s carrying A2A missiles only.
>>12880 the last images i saw comparing it to the f22 had a smaller weapons bay so who knows. for all we know this is a proof of concept type frame that's just there to get buercrats to sign up for the next two generations of spending.
>>12880 It will have laser weapons too. I think this is what the 3rd engine is for...
>>12910 Ace Combat 8 looks lit.
>>12916 kek but seriously, they showed a pic of some of the missiles. I know nothing about chinese missiles so I can't ID any of them.
>>12919 I'm guessing the big ones are cruise missiles maybe? Bootleg AMRAAM's and something that looks like a guided bomb as well.
>>12922 >Bootleg AMRAAM's and something that looks like a guided bomb as well. Not sure what this is but it looks fucking huge.
Honestly, I have yet to see anything that would revise my judgement upwards of "implessive" and that doesn't seem likely to happen in the near future. We haven't see it actually do anything besides dicking around for what I'm assuming is propaganda reasons, not even footage from a bomb range or footage of it going sanic fast. >>12910 [flamenco intensifies] >>12924 I would guess that it's either a dummy load or some sort of telemetry device or both. Maybe an internal drop tank?
>>12949 >implessive We made it 10 whole posts before anyone said that, nice.
>>12952 Couldn't help myself, sorry. I stand by my comments though - it looks cool enough but what the fuck can it actually do?
>>12959 I was just ribbing you. You were obviously being sincere. As for your question, I think the goal is to provide a credible threat that they can fight F-22s on equal footing, along with the ability to go after AEW&C craft. I doubt it's as good as the Chinese claim, but it is newer than the F-22 by 3 decades. They'll probably upgrade it when NGAD comes out so it at least sounds like a threat to that too. Whether it works or not really doesn't matter if they can deter the US from involving itself in a Taiwan war. I do think it is probably fairly capable, since it's not like China can't buy, make, or steal everything they need for a limited run of high end air superiority fighters, and if they can't come up with a good design on their own they have never been ashamed to copy other people's homework before.

I've heard speculation about it that runs the gamut from from air dominance to a dollar store B-21, so my main question is still what the fuck is it? Is it a dorito-shaped Super Hornet? Is it a stealthy missile truck? Is it "we have F-22 at home"?
>>13022 >so my main question is still what the fuck is it? I think it's designed specifically with the PRC's operational needs in mind and it's not super productive to try to pigeon hole it into the roles the US army fills. It seems to have a design that has all aspect stealth instead of frontal aspect stealth like the F-35 or Su-57 , which suggests to me that they expect to be using it outside of the coverage of China's IADS, while the small munitions bay indicates that it's not a bomber like the B-21 raider. I don't know enough to say whether it's designed purely to lob missiles in BVR engagements or if it has the maneuverability to be a closer in fighter, although given that it's got all aspect stealth I suspect the latter, since it might end up in close range engagements just from neither side detecting the other until they're pretty close. So I think it's designed to penetrate into enemy airspace and do things like wack AEW&C or aerial refueling planes, or perhaps conducting SEAD against long range systems like Patriots. I don't think it'd be designed to strike carriers, but it might able to provide targeting data for DF-21s, or whatever the current version of their anti ship ballistic missile project is designated.
