So I did some math on the barrel weight.... /k/ommando 04/20/2025 (Sun) 20:35:08 No. 13506
Please keep in mind these are just the civilian variants barrels and not the beefed up barrels for military use. >No I don't think the spear would be adopted realistically. At .2lbs per inch of barrel 13": 2.6lbs 16": 3.2lbs The AR-15 Barrel weight typically weighs 16"(Pencil Barrel): 1.5lbs 16"(Govt. Standard): 1.9lbs 18": 2.1lbs 20": 2.3lbs Given these weights it never made sense to me this boomer idea of giving every infantryman a Marksman Rifle. Is there any advancement in the AR Platform or a new platform that should've been considered instead?
>>13506 You can't really think of a rifle adoption in a vacuum, anon. If the U.S. is looking at bumping up the caliber to something that can blast sandniggers beyond 5.56 range, then it stands to reason there must be some implement that allows Pvt. Dumbfuck to do it. That must justify the increase in overall weight to the military. That or I'm just a battle rifle obsessed schizo.

this weapon does everything NGSW wanted, in a much more practical way. And it looks cool, which is what matters most. Of course it meant that we never heard anything about it ever again. FN IWS > (Sig) forever X-M7
>>13747 >.277 has 40% more muzzle energy than .264 Anon... I...
>>13751 it's GOOD that 264 isn't overpowered to retarded degrees. You just need a bump up from 5.56 energy while retaining low recoil, low weight and high capacity. 277 has a lot of energy, yes, but giving ALL soldiers a DMR is turboretarded.
i thought we were shifting away from sand trap play grounds and moving toward the pacific
>>13763 nah bro we got a go to war for Israel again Anyways this rifle is stupid. New alloy casing 5.56 is gonna extend the AR's lifespan YET AGAIN with minimal effort. We are NEVER moving away from the M4 and 5.56 lmao

So something funny occurred to me recently while reading the project requirements for the NGSW program. The Colt Monitor fulfilled or nearly fulfilled all of them. I am not sure what muzzle velocity you'd get out of a BAR with a 16 inch barrel, but it's still probably enough to count. Plus in CQB you could use the muzzle blast to concuss and blind the enemy.
>>13773 if it was good enough to kill bonnie and clyde...
