Is there a flaw with the Rafale or in how India is using them? Are Chinese AA systems better than what people guessed?
>>15306 The answer to all those questions is no.
>>15307 My mistake. I had assumed AA systems were most likly, but now it seems a Chinese J-10 jet got the kill. So now I wonder if the J-10 is better.
>>15308 Before anyone can answer whether the J-10 is better than what people guessed, we have to know who you mean by "people". If you mean the NAFO people back on 4/k/ or the sorts of people who just say "implessive" or respond to any mention of Chinese equipment with copypasta, then yes, it is much better than they expect. If you meant is it better than people who are seriously interested in the topic guessed, then who knows, open source estimates are usually off by a bit. The J-10C is a highly capable plane that can go toe to toe with anything India's got. The Rafale is also an excellent plane, but they were conducting a precision bombing mission and weren't configured for air to air combat. A larger penetration of Pakistani airspace that sent more planes to provide cover for the bombing mission would have risked further escalation of the conflict, which India probably doesn't want. So given the political constraints on the operation it'd be inaccurate to say India was using them in a flawed way, they just tried something risky and it didn't work out.

Thank you for the explaination.

>>15309 As an addendum to this post I should point out that the J-10C is probably better than the Rafale in spite of being a lot cheaper, when I said the Rafale is an excellent plane I didn't mean to imply they were equally capable, just that the Rafale is also quite good and is still pretty up to date. A Rafale configured for air-to-air combat would be at a disadvantage against a J-10C, but not to an insane degree. >>15310 No problem. I do have a problem with your using AI slop pictures though, since there are plenty of pictures out there of Indian babes with guns. Bollywood puts out tons of trashy action movies after all.

>>15311 Thanks for the extra info anon.

What probably happened is the Rafales got chased down as they were leaving and got tailpiped by the Pakis.
>>15315 Sounds like they needed better escorts or something then. Maybe they didn’t expect Pakis to be ready.
>>15320 Just a speculation, but as one guy already wrote, the Indians might have tried doing a limited operation to not escalate things. However getting accurate info from these two is even harder than Russia-Ukraine.
Interesting that the early talk about this clash was so focused on India losing planes and what an embarassment it was for them (and maybe it was), but now that it seems more likely that they only lost two planes instead of five and more info is starting to come out about how effective their strikes were, it seems it may have been Pakistan that got the worst of it.
>>15338 It still seems like a win for Pakistan to me, since while I don't know what India struck, I doubt they did $240 million in damage, and that's what they paid for each Rafale. When the Indians bought the Rafales they spent an absolute fuckload for them with the expectation that they would give the Indian air force a decisive edge over their Pakistani counterparts. Now India's only real option for air superiority is to buy a bunch of Su-57s, on top of discovering that all the money they spent on the Rafales was wasted.
>>15340 Maybe so. Difficult to tell with the infp we have. I thought the damage sounded significant, and then there's the report of a large shipment of boron from Egypt, something used to help with readiation leaks. But I'm also seeing talk about how this was the first big test for Chinese weapons and that they made a good showing. I think Pakistan was the first to ask for a ceasefire, that could be them wanting to stop while they're ahead.
>>15341 Nice MiG-18.
>>15341 please cool it with the AI slop. we get it, you like brown bitches with funny accents.
>>15345 Thank you.
