Were taxes REALLY much higher on the rich in the 1950s?
Can we get a definitive answer on this?

I mean if we plan on winning, we need to be countering these dumb talking points.

To answer your question though, I can't find data on the actual amount PAID in taxes by quintile (as opposed to the rate %s). The best I can get is the tax revenue as a % of GDP, which has stayed relatively constant.

This isn't what we're talking about, but if you really wanted to increase the government's tax revenue (I'm not speaking as a moral libertarian here, I'm speaking as an evil Machiovellian asshole), the only way I could see the U.S. doing that is to pass a VAT. VATs are scarily efficient at extracting wealth from society. However, I doubt it's very progressive.

>Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred; because he can endure very well being feared whilst he is not hated, which will always be as long as he abstains from the property of his citizens and subjects and from their women. But when it is necessary for him to proceed against the life of someone, he must do it on proper justification and for manifest cause, but above all things he must keep his hands off the property of others, because men more quickly forget the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony. Besides, pretexts for taking away the property are never wanting; for he who has once begun to live by robbery will always find pretexts for seizing what belongs to others; but reasons for taking life, on the contrary, are more difficult to find and sooner lapse. But when a prince is with his army, and has under control a multitude of soldiers, then it is quite necessary for him to disregard the reputation of cruelty, for without it he would never hold his army united or disposed to its duties.
It's always fascinated me how Machiavelli became viewed as Evil when his whole thing was about being a good ruler while not allowed your goodness to manifest as weakness, as a weak ruler would lead to greater misfortune for himself and his subjects than a cruel lord.
Making plans is difficult when you live in a police state. Everything is illegal. You are not allowed to go outside. You don't know if you can buy a house because you don't know if the government will close your business. You are not allowed to travel or escape. The state can indefinitely detain you without trial, grope you, kill you, torture you, or destroy or steal your property at any time. You are not allowed to have free speech, the government wiretaps you, you cannot go to church, and you cannot own a gun. Americans are now just slaves like North Koreans are.

Liberterian Strategies To Counter Epidemics Anonymous 04/20/2020 (Mon) 19:17:24 Id: 9556fa No. 2697 [Reply]

Ok, since board is usually not very active, let me start a couple threads of interests.
In a libertarian society what would be the strategies to deal with an epidemic/outbreak ?
I choose this subject because it is an ideal subject to come up with solutions as it is usually thought as something to be countered from a central authority, such as border health checks restrictions etc.
We all know a libertarian society can easily switch to producing masks, drugs, medical machinery etc fast and cheap in abundance. So I thing we are all set on that point.
So about street security, health checks on borders and these required tests... who would be up to make them, in what ways etc.
Go.

The world used to have no cities. City-states then started appearing. City-states led to countries. Now there is a global government. Hopefully, countries will break into small villages again when everything collapses. Iceland is not a free country, but maybe small places are more likely of having peace if everyone has similar values and backgrounds and everybody knows each other.

Americans say that they will just ignore the US collapse, but what will you do when the Gestapo knock down your door to give you an anal swab virus test, mandatory vaccine, and confiscate your guns? What will you do when inflation is 1 million percent and the US defaults on the debt, Civil War 2.0 starts, and looters stab people with butter knives over a can of corn? What will you do when the US starts WWIII with Iran, North Korea, China, and Russia and the nuclear bombs explode around you? This is real. Wake up.

Powell Lied: Quantitative Easing Is Back

10/09/2019 Daniel Lacalle mises.org

The Federal Reserve, through its president Jerome Powell, has indicated that it is preparing to increase its balance “organically”. The effort to separate this latest monetary policy change of course from a full-blown new QE (quantitative easing) is, at the very least, amusing. If we look at what is being discussed, it has nothing to do with organic expansion and looks a lot like a new repurchase program.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

Rushdoony believed that a republic is a better form of civil government than a democracy. According to Rushdoony, a republic avoided mob rule and the rule of the "51%" of society; in other words "might does not make right" in a republic.[31] Rushdoony wrote that America's separation of powers between 3 branches of government is a far more neutral and better method of civil government than a direct democracy, stating "[t]he [American] Constitution was designed to perpetuate a Christian order". Rushdoony argues that the Constitution's purpose was to protect religion from the federal government and to preserve "states' rights."[32]

Rushdoony's work has been used by Dominion Theology advocates who attempt to implement a Christian government subject to Biblical law in the United States. Authority, behavioral boundaries, economics, penology and the like would all be governed by biblical principles in Rushdoony's vision, but he also proposed a wide system of freedom, especially in the economic sphere, and claimed Ludwig von Mises as an intellectual mentor; he called himself a Christian libertarian.[17]

Most people support the police state until they become a victim of it.
>>2456 >However, republics are still subject to the same degenerative incentives to which democracies are, and don't really solve any of the problems inherent in the system, they just slow down the rate of decay. That's all systems anon. Republics and democracies are still the far better choice. Unfortunately power has a tendency to centralise, you can slow it down though and perhaps even push back against it, but even people like Roosevelt knew about this. A libertarian is a man tasked with fighting against the flow of that as much as he practically can.
Americans think that the US will be improved by expanding wars, increasing the debt, and adding more tyranny when the reason the USA is crashing is because the US has wars, is in debt, and has a police state. Americans used to say that they love freedom, but now they turn around and say they need the government to give them free Obamacare, build a wall, protect the US from Yemen, wiretap their phones, arrest people for feeding the homeless, stop farmers from plowing fields, force people to get rid of dogs, ban vaping, and torture suspects. Every country has the government it deserves.

Agorism was mainly supposed to be a bridge between the Voluntaryist viewpoint and the Syndicalist viewpoint and a means to an end/a theoretically agreed upon strategy that is more "independent" of any particular anarchist ideology. See >>1870 It gained popularity around the 2000s at which point it widely spread via various "libertarian left" organizations back in 2013-2017 era. This is also why various groups with high AnCap participation had the rug pulled out from under them in big tent organizations by leftists leading to large group separations (See: Texas Students for Liberty getting sick and tired of the DC-based group's bullshit especially ISFL and forming their own NGO). By 2018 it was largely considered an AnCap ideology despite Konkin being left-libertarian.

For all intents and purposes just consider it "AnCap in practice." There's a few points of disagreement between AnCaps and Agorists, but they're smaller than the differences between AnCaps and Syndicalists. The entire ideology can be summed up as "Let the Black Market Choke The State!" It's just sometimes Agorists see certain social structures as "The State" that AnCaps don't.

I think agorism has it's place but it wouldn't hurt to have someone running for office as well to alleviate government bullshit. Maybe something like a two pronged approach.

While I usually defend free market and freedom, and argue that the only reason the roastie problem is out of control is due to State's incentives towards women's education, divorce, single motherhood, I'm not sure it is enough.

Once there is no state and no welfare for the eternal whores and such other parasites to leech from, deciding to go the way of the thot and become a single mother is pretty much suicidal since said mother would have to provide to her children all by herself, and since women are so incapable of doing anything right they would quickly go back to doing what is needed to get a man's commitment and financial-security, that is, marriage. You can't make women stop being sluts but you can take away all incentives for them to act on such impulses, and so private law society would see an end to gynocentrism, although that would be irrelevant since the free market is the shortest path to genetically engineered catgirl wives and women would be obsolete by then.

Death and Taxes in a Libertarian/Minarchist Community Anonymous 10/27/2021 (Wed) 04:13:21 Id: e23c79 No. 4675 [Reply]
Let's discuss taxation, its legitimacy or lack thereof, and ways to keep what public servants that may exist in a freer society accountable. Minarchism and Libertarianism are both anti-statist ideologies but they still hinge somewhat on the presence of, if little else, a system of courts where conflicts between citizens are arbitrated-and this arrangement necessitates presence of full time employees. Is it possible to have zero taxes and if not, what would be the most ethical means of procurement and distribution be?

You know a country is rigged when the government forces you to buy products, gives bailouts to companies, and uses regulations to prevent you from starting a business.
>>4689 This is true, and lest we forget they'd also recently made it impossible to patronize small businesses for an entire year, intentionally and knowingly destroying a large swathe of them in the process (because funneling the same number of people into a smaller surface area with shorter operating hours is so much better for "pandemic" outcomes, right?).

Could this be "solved" by just letting in a certain amount of out-group individuals that within a short number of generations would be genetically integrated? That is, if you let in, let's say, a family of asians, would the increased cost of transaction go as low as it was in the 100% homogeneous group if the tiny amount of asians mix genetically with the whites up to the point that their genes are diluted enough not to be visually differentiable from the other whites? That could be a way to let in certain high IQ or really valuable individuals of different racial groups into your covenant without that affecting it negatively in the long run, right?
>>2630
>Could this be "solved" by just letting in a certain amount of out-group individuals that within a short number of generations would be genetically integrated?
I suppose, but at that point you're basically just being homogeneous but with more steps. Regression to the mean implies that the net benefit to the gene pool would be negligible without a very aggressive eugenics program to supplement it, and most outsiders probably wouldn't want to join a community with the knowledge that their genes and way of life would be bred out of existence within a couple generations. You may as well just make an official policy of complete ethnostate, then deal with exceptional circumstances as they appear (since unless you're literally autistic you can always bend your own rules if it benefits you), instead of spending unnecessary time and effort trying to institutionalize your policy for unlikely and highly variable exceptional circumstances.
Exactly. We'll all be living in caves after everything is outlawed, but then you can be sure that living in caves will soon be banned in order to protect endangered bats.
