The original 8chan (8prime) was an altchan run by Fredrick "Hotwheels" Brennan, a crippled midget living in the Philippines. During Gamergate there was a mass exodus to 8prime /v/ and given the /pol/ aspect of the whole thing and the ever-present dissatisfaction with the state of 4chan, some /pol/acks came along for a ride and made a home on 8prime /pol/. For a few years 8prime /pol/ was a magical place full of effortposting and oldfags which punched
way above its weight in the volume of insightful discussion and influence on society but was in a noticeable decline circa 2018. After a relatively short period of time Hotwheels handed off the site to Jim Watkins, an expat pig farmer who had provided some support to the site in the past. Hotwheels became a born-again Christian for a little while and last I heard is a fat homosexual furry fetish artist but that's neither here nor there. Following an incredibly shitty attempt to "update" the site by Jim's son (who went by the name "Codemonkey") activity declined at a faster pace and finally the whole site went down in 2019 when Jim panicked following a spate of shootings connected to the board, most notably Christchurch. After a while (about 9 months IIRC) it was brought back as a pale imitation of its former self under the name 8kun, with no politics board (this changed a bit later, when it was brought back and rebranded as /pnd/ before apparently going back to /pol/ at some point) with virtually all of the activity on the site limited to the /qresearch/ board which is somehow even worse than the den of schizo boomers that you're probably imagining.
8chan.moe (<- you are here) was a site that a few board owners from 8prime started when 8kun was eating shit for an extended period and it has endured ever since. To give you an idea of the state of 8kun, before two days ago the most recent news I'd heard regarding that place was Jim had re-registered the original 8prime address to shill his own personal memecoin and every time I've checked on it in the last five years or so the activity on /pol/ was <1 post per month.
I might have gotten a few details wrong in that so don't quote me chapter and verse but the overall outline is correct as best I can recall. 8kun /pol/ currently looks a lot like halfchan /pol/, but given what a fucking cesspit that place is I'm happy to continue never going there and praying that they never come here.
