Souls Thread: I Can't Believe It's Not Bloodborne! Edtion Anonymous 04/05/2025 (Sat) 05:34:15 Id: a4c6d2 No. 1086303
Let's discuss Soulsborne games (Sekiro, Nightreign and Duskbloods included). Well Nintendo really stirred the pond by getting From to make a not Bloodborne 2 Multiplayer game. How many of you think the gameplay elements introduced in Nightreign and Duskbloods will shake up future souls gameplay? New content is coming to the Switch 2 version of Elden meme which will come to the other versions. Last thread >>999602
>>1413658 For whatever reason Miyazaki or Fromsoft as a whole hates the idea of rechallenging a boss. Especially when a reward is attached to it. They wouldn't even consider it the sake of fun or even challenge either.
are you guys buying the deluxe edition?
>>1413740 Should be fine with the Curved Great Club >>1414138 Don't think I'm even buying base version, I'm probably going to wait for the DLC at christmas to buy it on discount
>>1414086 I suppose technically you can also rechallenge (some) bosses in Bloodborne via the chalices. >For whatever reason Miyazaki or Fromsoft as a whole hates the idea of rechallenging a boss I'm assuming their reasoning is that's what NG+ is for. By conception the Souls format was one in which you could not do everything or get everything in a single playthrough cycle. They've softened on that as well as a lot of other things over time but it still holds reasonably firm.
>>1415621 >Should be fine with the Curved Great Club So not the ivory sickle then? >>1415871 Another thing I thought of. You can rechallenge bosses in Souls. Via co-op. That's probably what they're thinking. Why should they put something in that invalidates one of their core concepts. Problably that's why Sekiro lets you refight. No online. And in regards to the previous post probably why you can refight bosses in chalice dungeons. No boss soul weapons/magic. I feel there is a method to Footman's madness.
>>1392450 This is a terrible idea.
No one brought up the Bring Me to Life trailer for Nightreign?
>>1415892 > ivory sickle Ew, no.
Been having a real good time with Nightreign so far. Randoms have been a bit of a mixed bag though, many runs ending to overconfidence in being able to take on the super foes = wasted time because boss doesn't die = not strong enough for final boss. The Cerberus was really cool and split-jaw dragon is neat minus his fuck you AOE. Who is this doll loli the other player was using in pic 2 though? She seemed really neat with claw spell attacks. So far I've tried the Recluse and the Hawk. The Recluse is really fun with the spellcrafting and spell traces mechanic, but the Hawk is much sturdier and far better at saving runs and being a better contributor to the fight. Also, in case any other anons playing haven't realized yet, your weapon slots are like a Granblue grid system. The passive effects are always active even if not actively out, so load up on those motherfuckers even if you're not going to use them, just make sure the passives are actually relevant to you. Really don't get what people are having fits about and saying the game is bad for.
Successfully completed my first run after 3ish hours of attempts. Hadn't played the network tests. Initial impressions are thus: >not for newcomers to Souls game >it's pretty hard >you're significantly weaker than a normal Souls game character until the second day when you start getting decent upgrades >it's fun as fuck Game is everything I wanted: jolly cooperation in a Souls game with random players and random shit happening and random builds being used.
>>1417397 It's okay. I played a few expeditions and it's more or less what I expected: an 8/10 multiplayer experience that I'll probably sink a decent amount of hours into over time. >Really don't get what people are having fits about FromSoft's success has made them the object of outrage culture non-discourse. I can't even explain it in rational terms because there's no rationality behind it; and any and all legitimate criticism is drowned out by the seething mob. You basically cannot discuss FromSoft on any popular platform without some self-righteous retard shouldering the heavy burden of enlightening you poor, poor fools who don't have the objectively correct, dogmatic non-opinions. This is to say nothing of places like 4/v/ where bad faith actors conduct coordinated hate campaigns against games they personally dislike; in other words, games that were financially or critically successful: Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter Wilds, Expedition 33, and so on and so forth. (All of which also have flaws, of course.) tl;dr people are addicted to outrage and social media enables and even incentivizes its dissemination. If you want to have sincere discussions about media, your only recourse these days is discussing it with actual acquaintances, discussing it on small sites where bad faith actors have fewer incentives, or praying that it isn't popular so no one cares. Or you could be a content creator and just shit your opinions out on YouTube (which also incentivizes and rewards outrage). That said, there are a lot of legitimate criticisms of the game, although I haven't fully formed my own because I've only played it for ~3 hours. The performance on specific hardware, the rigidity of the 3-man structure, and the lack of communication features for solo queuing are all flaws. >>1417448 It really is surprising how hard it is. I like that aspect.
Has anyone figured out how to open the magic towers?
>>1417902 Yeah I did it once. You need to find a nearby Raya Lucaria seal and step on it to break it. The things must have some odd spawning conditions or be kind of hidden or something. Or be partway up the tower in some cases since I've seen some towers with little ledges on the outside. I've just been avoiding them for now until I figure out how the seal spawning works better.
I've heard it said the new Elden Ring spinoff is very "meh". Somebody I know said it feels like B-sides. Is this a Divine Divinity to Beyond Divinity situation, where it's "game, but more!" and not as interesting?
The movement in Nightreign is making me act unwise anons, it's everything I wanted in the base/DLC of Elden meme. This mixed things up as while it's DNA is the typical souls gameplay, it's Sekiro and BloodBorne addons really get me excited.
>>1418514 No. It's a case of people expecting Elden Ring 2 and getting Risk of Rain:Souls Editon. It's like a restaurant trying adding sushi to their menu. It's really good sushi, but customers order it and get very pissed they got raw fish that was clearly labeled and advertised as such instead of the grilled fish that makes up most of the menu. I guess Armored Core 6 would be the random steakburger on the menu in this context.
So how does it play in singleplayer mode? I typically plays these games offline and I don't have the most stable or consistent internet anyway.
>>1418958 Doable, but rough as hell. Single player is an afterthought here. Power rankings so far: >Duchess >the caster chick >Ironeye >Executor and Revenant >Raider >Wylder >Guardian Double dmg on Duchess is insane with a decent group, especially high burst classes like Wylder/Raider/caster. Had a good Duchess when I played caster: I'd pop my ult to signal I'd be bursting, I'd cast 5-6 spells and dump my mana bar, and the Duchess would just copy it. By the end we were synching really well, chunked the cerberus boss for over 30% of his health in under 5 seconds. On the flip side, Guardian is pretty much useless. He's a worse Raider. His whole shtick is tanking, but it's pretty much impossible to keep mobs on you in this game. You can't build enough stamina to guard poke, and even the relic that makes enemies focus you when you have guard up doesn't seem to help all that much. For Guardian to be good there needs to be threat relics for tanking and DPS, at the very least. Having a great time, I'll be sinking hundreds of hours into this game, at the very least.
Some thoughts from a mildly interested observer. It seems like Nightreign takes one aspect of the "Souls-game" and re-contextualizes it. That aspect is PvE Coop Combat. From what I've seen so far, it's basically Souls Game, Coop Combat Speedrun Edition. They've even recycled a bunch of bosses from the older games. There's no careful exploration of tightly crafted environments, no threat of player invasion, and no need to consider how you might build your stats and equipment over the course of one continuous adventure. Just pick a character and you're off to the races. Some questions for those who have played. Is there any meta progression? Is the game still capped at 60fps? Any randomization of map layouts?
>>1419110 Do you have to actually win an entire run to bring back artifacts or can you "fail your way to success" at the start?
>>1419231 You can fail your way to success. You need to reach the nightlord in the run to get the 3 buff artifacts and the pocketwatch, though. Which are the ones that actually matter. >>1419152 >Meta progression You get artefacts that provide various buffs that can be equipped to a system akin to Caryll runes. You also get alternate bases to put the runes in, each having different slots for different characters. Gestures, skins, some chalices, and some specific artifacts are tied to meta progression currency as well. >60FPS cap Yeah, also ultrawide gets you black bars. >Random map layouts Yes. It's not complete RNG generation but which caves show up, big events rocking the map, and what camps/churches/towers/etc go where are randomized. There's a central fort that remains mostly unchanged from what I've seen, though. >>1419110 I feel like you misunderstand Guardian's purpose, and defensive souls builds in general. You sacrifice DPS to be the lynchpin holding the team together and a wall to help with most of the basic mob fights. You can even make your team fully invincible and revive in a huge radius, plus having a great ability that contributes to posture breaks. Guardian is the immovable object to Raider's unstoppable force. He does need some buffs though, mainly his super guard needs to be easier to drop into and he needs a unique passive buff that reduces his elemental chip. Some bosses like Morgott will shit down his neck because he'll take way too much chip way too fast.
>>1419375 Is it possible to clear the entire game in one run on a fresh save?
>>1417397 At least it has some nice visuals isuppose
What's the point of Recluse? She's just Ironeye with less damage, worse tracking and mana restrictions
>>1419454 >One run Not that kind of game. Seven runs at minimum. One for each nightlord and then the finale one. If there's not more nightlords I'm unaware of. Could you do it without interacting with the meta progression systems and lore journals? Yeah you could. The buffs aren't that critical and don't stack that high. >>1419754 Spellcraft mechanic, better scaling off of buffs you can find, and infinite FP mixed with the more powerful spells and incants you can find make her stronger at burst than Ironeye. Her ult is good support and can revive two people in a wide radius, her spellcraft shit is also really strong with some combos making you invulnerable for a long duration or otherwise shitting out damage. She's also caters to a very different fantasy than Ironeye does. It's like asking why you'd play Bandit in Risk of Rain when that Sniper character exists.
I take back every bad thought and bad thing I said about Guardian. There's a relic that reflects damage when you use his super guard ability. It's fucking amazing. Maris nightlord is the worst boss Fromsoft has made. Surpassing even Fire Giant. Kill yourself Miyazaki.
New thread with Elden Bling Bitebrain on OP please.
Got a few more runs in and managed to clear another nightlord with randoms and get several close runs on Libra/Goatman and the twin bugs, both with randoms and with a premade group. Think it's going to take a while to beat this game. And honestly, I'm expecting nerfs across the board because of people pissing and shitting all over social media about "Game too hard". I think the challenge is perfectly acceptable as-is myself and these bosses are very doable, you just need a good understanding of them and for people to dump burst in phase 1 if they have it instead of saving it for phase 2 of these bosses. Since P2 is where you need most of the healing. Sadly, despite the best efforts of this player to whip the bird into shape, it wasn't enough to beat those damn bugs. The goatman can show up in the field too, not just in rememberances, to make deals or otherwise be a nusiance. >>1420839 It is a new game, so it is worth a new standalone thread if you really want to make it. Nobody has to make the thread for you and all that. Just remember to put enough substance in the OP. If you mean the next general souls thread that's not going to be for a bit. You don't just make a new thread the instant the old one hits bumplock here.
>>1420839 I'll make it give me a sec
New thread >>1423012
Is it true that nightreign is just an asset flip? Like more so than other from games? I saw a bunch of elden souls bosses in the few screenshots I saw
>>1423070 >just It's half asset flip, half roguelite boss rush with new bosses
>>1337093 >sit behind the boss and blow farts up his asshole? I beat the game.
>>1411586 It took me 30 tries to bear Godrick the Grafted and I thought I would help someone with the boss fights since now I knew all his moves. I get summoned, he charges it for some reason so I have to fight him from the back. I can't read him from the back, Godrick turns around mid attack and insta kills me. The host just looks at me. Sorry, man. I can't read him from behind. lmao
