>>41123 >Samurai Sonic Is there any hope for a Storybook game set in ye olde Japan one day? Would Sonic Team or Kishimoto be interested in that?
>>41137 That would be awesome
>>41136 YEAH!!!!
>>41137 Samurai Sonic sounds like a cool enough concept to where it will eventually happen one day, but I don't have the most confidence in it being good. It would need to be written by someone of Maekawa's caliber (or at least just one of the other senior game designers) for the story to be as good as the originals.
>>41137 What story would it be based on? I don't know Japanese literature, or literature in general
>>41134 Big would hate her because her incessant blabbering would scare the fish, he would eventually get tired of her shit and she would call him a government agent.
>>41137 No, I don't think so, they've been generally going in the opposite direction and even if they try to make one and actually succeed they'd probably be criticized because it'd be too niche. I remember there being a cool Sonic pic where he was drawn like a Samurai but I can't find it so have these instead. The instashield was such a good idea, it's probably the best ability in the whole franchise, it's so intuitive to use and it feels so good to nail it. I hate that it was so short lived.
If it’s called shipping, then where is the water? Time to get wet and make a splash, but Sonic can’t even swim. By the way, neither can Shadow. You’ll murder him if you bring him to water... or leave him almost dead

Some of the input parameters in Sonic 2006 are called "mario64". I suppose this means the controls are inspired by Super Mario 64, but I don't see how that would be the case

Speaking for both rivals 1 and 2, it kinda annoys me that a ton of people these days only know rivals through like 2 webms they jack off to where Silver or something acts like a retard, and then they all pretend as if they've played it. The actual game is really not interesting in any aspect imo. Also yeah it's a fucking psp game of course it emulates well, play it on your phone if you can be bothered to

Tails' gameplay in the 3D games is fun! People often say it's impossible for him to control well in 3D because of his flight ability, but the games have done it well multiple times. The main issue is that he doesn't get enough stages I love flying around in SA1 especially after getting the upgrade that lets you fly for longer. Unfortunately Tails doesn't have many stages, and the only stage that's properly designed around his flight is Speed Highway, but it is a great stage because it actually makes you platform across long distances, so you have to consider how far you can go. The continuous spinning tails attack is also fun to mess around with, even if it's kinda useless. I like how you can get Rings by cutting the grass in the Mystic Ruins. The Cyloop in Frontiers reminded me of that, so I think they should give Tails that attack again in Frontiers 2 In SA2 he has Gamma's gameplay but with worse controls unfortunately. However he has longer and more in-depth stages to make up for it In Sonic 2006 he's kinda slow when walking, but when flying he has a nicer speed. Throwing Dummy Ring Bombs at a standstill sucks, but they're fun to throw when flying, or to open those gates. I like that Tails (like all the other characters) can grind rails in this game too. Like most other characters in this game the controls aren't as good as I would like them to be, but the level design is usually great. Tails' section in Sonic's Wave Ocean is his less interesting stage right next to Tails' Wave Ocean. Lame that they gave him his own stage (in the base game) just for it to be Wave Ocean again which they also already gave to Blaze anyway. They should have picked a different stage. Regardless Tails' section in the DLC version of Sonic's Wave Ocean is better than both. Tails' Crisis City is also great, it takes place in Sonic and Shadow's first section except Tails goes backwards, so you go uphill by both flying and grinding rails. Sonic's Aquatic Base is one of my favorite stages. Part of the reason why is how it uses Tails' moveset. It makes you fly up to tall platforms or above large gaps/obstacles and it makes you throw Dummy Ring Bombs at the enemies or the magnetic poles. People often criticize the inclusion of the Amigo characters in the game because they don't do much in the story, but I appreciate it. I think their inclusion was mainly for gameplay reasons and to still give something to the fans of the characters so I'm glad my favorite character is there (and has good gameplay unlike Amy or even Shadow) The Final Horizon seems to have good level design and unlike the other games he has way more content to actually play. Unfortunately it is also the weakest implementation so far. Even though the level design seems to be good the game doesn't encourage you to replay it it doesn't track your time or score, and there is no arcade mode for those open zone platforming challenges in general which is a big issue with the entire game. Tails also has it worse than other characters because not only can he easily gain infinite flight everywhere across the map but the game also makes it preferable to skip Tails' gameplay entirely due to technical issues. The objects pop in is a technical problem that significantly harms the entire game, but it is much worse in The Final Horizon. And because Tails' platforming is mostly out in the open away from the land it is very hard to tell where the path of a challenge starts, ends, or even how it continues. You likely stumble upon a path or even the goal and you won't know if you're going in the right direction or how you were even supposed to access it normally and this makes you want to ignore the challenge entirely and fly to the end. I will have to play the game more if I want to further comment on specific parts of the level design as I haven't completed everything yet In conclusion Speed Highway, Crisis City and Aquatic Base are great examples of how Tails's stages should be designed in 3D
>>41218 I'm going to reply when I finish reading, give me a second okay?
>>41219 No rush :)
>>41218 Yeah, I think P-06's moveset is probably my favorite in terms of controlling Tails, it's a mix of SA1 and 06. Giving him his ring bombs and tail attacks. But the absolute best part is something that I love that usually Amy has and that's a pogo/Scourge Mcduck cane bounce type attack. If you time pressing B right when tails lands on an enemy, instead of getting hurt Tails will damage the enemy and bounce lightly off of them. You can do this over and over until the enemy dies and then fly to the next. It's tricky and needs precise timing and precision but it's super fun.
>>41221 That sounds awesome. I haven't played P-06 yet so I only vaguely know the mechanics from the videos I've watched, but the controls look much more enjoyable. Legacy of Solaris looks interesting too

>>41230 Thanks anon. Right off the bat i found an interesting couple posts about a Sonic Team game (with mainline Sonic) that was supposed to release sometime in 2015. I wonder what became of it and what the writing would've been like. The image didn't save, but given the replies it's likely that the image was of a banner at the Sonic Boom event mentioning a Sonic Team game due to release on PS4, Xbone and Wii U.

>>41233 The sign in the toy convention must be what I'm thinking of then.
>>41235 I hope some details about the cancelled game leak out some day, it would be neat to see what Sonic Team wanted to follow up Lost World with before the failure of Boom forced them to course correct to Forces. Sega posted today a non-announcement for Rumble. I remember when they used to do announcements of future announcements, this is on another level kek.
>>41257 >Oh fuck, we killed all the hype for this game by delaying its launch indefinitely <What do we do? >How about we make an announcement to generate new hype? <But what would we announce? >Simple, we announce nothing!

>>41259 Has Rumble even had any updates lately?
>>41260 I don't keep up with it unless someone talks about it in the threads, so last I heard it was when they added City Escape and Sweet Mountain months ago
You probably have been missing the eternal collabs so here's a new one, it even has a bootleg gondola so that you feel more at home. Some scenes in this are so nicely animated, they look prettier than Sega's own animations.
>>41262 >The Battle Cats I didn't know that game was still around. I'm almost tempted to give this collab a try, but I remember Battle Cats getting really unfair after the first few levels.
>>41262 I don't care about this at all but the animation does look nice, thanks for posting it
Writing that post made me want to play Sonic 2006 again. So I S ranked Sonic's Aquatic Base, Radical Train, Flame Core and Tropical Jungle. Aquatic Base is the hardest and most demanding of those which makes sense given that it's the final stage in Sonic's story Also I just bought the Sky Gem and it's fun to mess around with. I think I have two more gems left to buy
Nine enters a cobbling competition with Alberto Robert. Who wins, the expert or the young prodigy?

People who say Sonic is too slow in 2006 don't know how to use the Anti-Gravity and the Blue Gem I just noticed that Aquatic Base has some obstacles that only make sense if you use the Blue Gem, the developers definitely intended for you to use it to get better times

I had 100% forgotten Marza did a mini sequel of Night of the Werehog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW3eBWQ1IyQ
one aspect of my dream last night was going around a house collecting bump and sage figures
>>41309 What were they for? Did you unlock new shitposting strategies with them?
>>41310 I was collecting them in the irl way not the videogame way, so their purpose was to sit around and take up desk space why I was allowed to take them (or if I was allowed to take them, now that I think about it) wasn't part of it what i can tell you is that downstairs there was a bump that for some reason I decided I would come back for, and upstairs there were 3 sages, one of which was pretty vivid she was sitting on her knees and holding her sunhat to keep it from blowing in the wind
Marathon recompilation is playable on PC now, it still needs work though
News on CrossWorlds feels very slow lately.
>>41315 I bet they've shown us nearly all the important content by this point, so there's no news left to give.
>>41315 they're saving the announcement of the next guest character, gaz from invader zim
>>41316 Yeah I'd rather see the next game already
>>41315 They'll delay it again
>>41319 No that's Rumble, and they preemptively delayed it again without even giving the date
>>41314 Any videos of it running? How bad is it?
>>41321 There are a couple on YouTube. It seems to run well, but there is (mostly) no audio besides sound effects, and some graphics are glitched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Hr5XSg4zSU
Another video, this one has music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnOhOJPJLl8 >Although this looks pretty complete, we're a long way from release (and no ETA), so please be patient while we make this game the best it can be.
>>41322 >The only voiceline to play is the shopkeeper saying "Hey" Amazing how 06 always manages to be funny. >>41323 Kingdom Valley looks really good, almost thought it was a Shadow Gens mod for a second. Since this is technically playable, that means that the first two 360 games to get recomped into a playable state were both Sonic games. Interesting how no other fanbase has managed to do something like this and yet Sonic fans have done it twice. Now all we need is a Free Riders recomp and all the "games of questionable quality stuck on hard to emulate platforms" will be freed from their shackles.
>>41324 I didn't even consider that, plus it should be possible to combine it with the recent controller mod
>>41319 Sega's entire business from here on out is merch for games they will never actually release, they're going to have 14 games on delay and keep announcing new ones while putting more and more on the back burner showing new game play and updates for games never to see the public.
>>41326 that would be awesome because it would be marginally funny
>>41326 If only the merch was worth giving a damn for. I've spent thousands of dollars on Sonic merch and it was all second hand from years past, and as a result Sega has not seen a single dime from it. >they're going to have 14 games on delay and keep announcing new ones while putting more and more on the back burner Except maybe mobile and Sega Arcade shit, those seem to still be getting updated just fine.
>>41328 >Sonic Racing for Apple Arcade is getting Extreme Gears Looks like Crossworlds won't be getting an Apple Arcade port after all.
>>41329 Yeah that's what I was expecting given the game is called just "Sonic Racing"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaFdyn-Vp-4 >How Many Levels Can a Human Beat in Sonic ‘06?
>>41330 >Sonic Racing gets its own versions of all the tracks from TSR and will likely be updated to include tracks from Crossworlds >Meanwhile, Crossworlds won't have any of the tracks from TSR, despite adding them being as simple as just adding the assets into the game Applechads win again.

>>41339 I think the question really is how similar should Modern Sonic be to Classic Sonic. I love the instashield but I'm not sure how much I'd like it to replace the homing attack, even though the homing attack is a painful feature to create interactive and engaging gameplay like the nigger in the tweet mentions. Probably the right approach would be to improve the homing attack somehow rather than remove it.

>>41344 Doesn't 3D Blast have the Homing Attack as a power up?
>>41343 I feel like Crossworlds gets slower in every clip of it I see
>>41347 yeah, and it just feels better to play like that, only makes it more obvious how wonky it is to attack with just regular jumps.
>>41339 It feels like the complaint is coming from someone who actually hasn't played the pre-boost 3D games at anything close to a high level. Especially when he doesn't mention all the other gameplay mechanics like the Light Dash and the Bounce Jump. Sonic actually has a wide array of abilities that can be used to navigate environments, but you have idiots that keep trying to "fix" the Sonic games like they were somehow "broken" in the first place, and introducing new problems that never originally existed. In some ways, I sort of want to say that the actual gameplay evolution of the series died when they fired half the staff after Sonic '06.
>>41350 They dropped so many aspects of the series to mainly build off of Rush instead.
The Bounce was the best move in SA2. They need to bring it back in 3D

One of the first illustrations Ohshima drew for Sonic was the Sonic emblem, which said "His name is Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog" In the Sonic Adventure Tokyo International Forum presentation Sonic introduces himself by saying "My name is Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog da!" In the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 recaps, Sonic introduces himself by saying "Ore wa Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!" At the beginning of Sonic 2006, he introduces himself with "Ore wa Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog da!" And in Blade of Courage, he says "Ore wa Sonic! Onsoku no harinezumi da!" I think the phrase was based on Ohshima's 1990 artwork and evolved from there
>>41354 I like that the franchise has these phrases that they keep using. Even stuff like "long time no see", even if not that cool. >"Ore wa Sonic! Onsoku no harinezumi da!" I feel it strayed off too far from the original.
>>41355 Maybe, but compared to the western stuff which completely ignores that line it's still recognizable. The word onsoku (speed of sound) is also just fitting since it basically means "sonic" anyway >these phrases that they keep using There are also the "Too easy! Piece of cake!" variations, which are used in Adventure 2, 2006 (I think) and Forces I wish we had a list of these, they would have to be based off the Japanese originals though since they're not always translated in the same way
Sonic Adventure 2 (Japanese): "Too easy! 楽勝だぜ!" Sonic Adventure 2 (English): "Too easy! Piece of cake!" Sonic 2006 (Japanese): "Piece of cake! 楽勝だぜ" Sonic 2006 (English): "Too easy! No sweat!" Sonic Forces (Japanese): "Too easy! 楽勝だったぜ!" English version (English): "That was a cakewalk."
>>41357 >search a piece of cake (楽勝だぜ) >get Sonic, Falco, and this anime guy in most of the results
>>41343 How did they manage to make the water look worse in Crossworlds than Secret Rings? Why did they make the racing game slower than an autorunner?
>>41362 >How did they manage to make the water look worse in Crossworlds than Secret Rings? Laziness, and probably a huge number of other reasons. >Why did they make the racing game slower than an autorunner? >>41372 >idk why people get angry at them existing Oh they do? I thought I was the only one, I don't know why it's like this

>>41371 Only bits and pieces when it's placed in front of me like now. I don't consume much Sonic stuff on youtube or twitter unless it's fan art
>>41343 Perhaps the slowness is a selling point for normalfags. They see that Sonic is slower and in a kart and they think "this'll be fun now that there's less risk of flying off the edge". This isn't unprecedented either, part of why they abandoned the boost formula for Lost World and Boom is because focus groups felt that Sonic was too fast to control and it was too easy to fall off the edges of platforms.

Whenever I hear people clamor for Sonic Adventure 3 I can't help but think that what they really want is SA2 2 instead of a fully new Adventure game. Since Sonic Team really liked trying new things in the Adventure Era, SA3 would've been a departure from SA2's gameplay as much as SA2 was a departure from SA1's gameplay.
>>41383 I imagine 99% of people asking for SA3 are the same kind of people that were asking for a new classic Sonic game and then didn't buy Mania
>>41383 I agree with you. Except, as someone who asked for SA3 plenty of time, I wanted SA1 2 more than SA2 2 Also, I think 2006 and Frontiers already feel like SA1 2. Although 2006 also takes many aspects from SA2 as well. Apparently Unleashed actually started development as SA3 for real, and it is a departure. I guess we already got many flavors of SA3. I guess what I want now is a new game in the style of 2006 but with controls closer to SA2
>>41383 This is an interesting point that I hadn't considered before. I wonder how Sonic Team would think SA 3 should be probably a mobile game with microtransactions kek. Probably everyone means a different thing by it.
>>41386 >I wonder how Sonic Team would think SA 3 should be i think that's why they haven't done it either desu, they are scared their idea of SA3 won't be what the fanbase wants.

This video is an example of what that system would've looked like, featuring a more dynamic camera and character animations. >Every NPC in the game has a decent number of animations made specifically for this system, (this video doesn't even show all the ones for Sonic and Amy) so there's a fair bit to work with if you wanna mod it. >NOTE: It's possible to create around a dozen unique camera angles for use in conversations and dynamically swap between them during conversation, but for some reason editing that RFL causes the game's default camera to break, so I was only able to show one angle here. I just realized that I think every game for the past 15 years introduced at least a new character.
>>41517 That's always been a thing with Sonic games, introducing at least one new character is part of their formula. All the complaints about "Sonic's friends" were always stupid The character focus is a huge part of the series' appeal from its early days, with Sonic himself being designed to be appealing and memorable in both design and personality
Bun!

>>41549 The games finally got some voice direction, unfortunately it iwas in the worst way possible. They just told Roger to keep making it deeper to fit the """""""mature"""""" tone of Frontiers, by which they mean "weirdly sombre and melancholic in a way that is completely at odds with the characters". Now I'm a Roger defender but this just didn't work at all and I am praying they don't pull the same shit in the next game. CrossWorlds sounds somewhat back to normal at least.
>>41562 wife
>>41563 I think that tone was only ever meant for Frontiers
>>41565 Which makes it even weirder. What bright spark thought "let's change Sonic's entire demeanor for this one game"? The more I think about Frontiers the more I hate it.
>>41561 I want it because of Eggman. It would be both an opportunity to explore more of his family and offer a different kind of opponent for Eggman: one less physical like Sonic and more mental, like Eggman Nega. I want a game where Eggman, a character who is normally a villain, has the role of hero against a more dramatic threat: a lost member of his own family, gone mad after she was imprisoned in the darkness for over 50 years and forgotten in some abandoned military base. She would come back not only as a threat to humanity, but as a beast born from their mistakes. The despair and tragedy of it all would make for a delectable show while giving good character growth for Eggman. Shadow is an afterthought in all of this. It would be a battle of Robotnik vs Robotnik.
>>41567 I don't think this would be IC for Maria. It sounds like what they already did with Gerald and Shadow in SA2, with Shadow being mentally manipulated to act as Gerald's return after 50 years

>>41612 I thought the recent stuff gave her more personality. Although I've also seen people say it's technically OOC since she was more moody in SA2 or something >Tails could be Eggman's mental opponent True. They kinda tried to do this in Forces, but of course that was very limited

>>41613 > Although I've also seen people say it's technically OOC since she was more moody in SA2 or something Wasn't it just because of Shadow's messed-up memories? At any rate, I wouldn't want a proper resurrection. I want something on this level: >It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries, Maria Robotnik has sat immobile on the G.U.N. Throne of the ARK. She is the master of mankind by the will of the Emeralds and ruler of a million worlds by the might of her inexhaustible armies. She is a rotting carcass, writhing invisibly with power from the Ancient Age of Technology. She is the Carrion Empress of the vast Imperium of Mobian, for whom a thousand guardians are sacrificed every day so that she may never truly die. >Yet even in her deathless state, Maria continues her eternal vigilance. Mighty Egg Fleets cross the phantom-infested miasma of the Null Space, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Jeweled Beacon, the psychic manifestation of Maria's will. Vast armies give battle in her name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst her soldiers are the Adeptus Umbrae, the Shadow Marines, bio-engineered ultimate lifeforms infused with the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Sol Guard, the Freedom Fighters, the ever-vigilant Echidnas, and the Egg-priests of the Adeptus Ovi, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from zeti, black arms, time travelers -- and far, far worse. >To be a hedgehog in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the uncoolest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and speed, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of friendship and understanding, for in the grim dark future, there is only war. There is no chili dogs amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of extinguished gods. You have to go this far, you know.

>Rumble's not releasing this year >Blast is likely several years away from releasing >No news about Crossworlds >Nothing else releasing this year Why's Sonic news been so quiet right now?
>>41738 Wait what is Blast
>>41739 Fuck, I mean Blitz. The game's so bland and shitty I forgot its name.
>>41740 Fair lol I was hoping we would get something more substantial this year too. The series was so active recently, I thought we were back to at least one main game release a year. But I guess they consider CrossWorlds an important project, even if it isn't for me
>>41741 Yeah, it weird too because the Crossworlds likely uses up the same amount of resources as a new 3D platformer would, but I guess they somehow came to the conclusion that making a sequel to TSR would be a better use of those resources.
>>41738 >Rumble's not releasing this year Supposedly during the last investors' meeting they were asked about it and they still said it's releasing this year (apparently FY2026/3 is the last 3 months of 2025.) I've been trying to find the original document but haven't been able to find it yet. >Why's Sonic news been so quiet right now? It's kinda eerie. >>41741 >I guess they consider CrossWorlds an important project It sure feels like they do for some reason. >>41742 >I guess they somehow came to the conclusion that making a sequel to TSR would be a better use of those resources It feels like there's been a lot of changes of plan this year for Sonic Team. I wonder if they were for the best.
>>41743 >Rovio told them to delay the launch That explains why this is all so stupid, their designated stupid department is making decisions.
>>41743 Do you think they had another big game planned for this year? >>41744 kek
>>41747 Maybe, or maybe there were some changes to the plans for next year that means they now have to make changes to this year's games
>>41747 Given how early they announced Crossworlds and how the beta was back in February, they might've been planning an earlier release before deciding to push it back.

Apparently there are French novelizations of Prime. I doubt they're better than the actual show
>>41757 I never understood why companies do this. That said I'm surprised Sega hasn't done it more and that (to my knowledge) there aren't a lot of longer Sonic reads. Actually, are there any, even?
>>41757 There are French Novelizations of Boom too. I'd almost be tempted to buy one just to see what it's like, but I doubt there's anything there that's not in the show.
>>41758 >Actually, are there any, even? Excluding picture books and adaptations of TV show episodes, the only Sonic books to release in the past decade were the Movie Novelizations and a book I never heard of before today called Sonic the Hedgehog 5 minute stories (which is a compilation of two slightly older books). https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog:_5-Minute_Stories There were also some books from the 90s as well.
>>41759 That kinda makes sense, the production company was French too. I wonder if some of the original staff of the show worked on them.
>>41753 No, be happy you get to score.
>>41762 Look mate I'm not trying to score for the other team

cold steele the hedgehog was sick as hell, acktually
>>41767 Never, I think Rush's music is in copyrights hell. Also I wonder how much patience today's kids would have to the Advance games.
>>41771 Children can summon the willpower to do anything if they care about it, and what autistic children (sonic fans) care about is beating the game. Videogames have gotten easier over the decades to better appeal to normalfag adults that want to have their slop fed to them mindlessly.
>>41772 Well said.
I watched the Silver analysis video the other day. I have more appreciation for his story in 2006 now, and I also understand his character more, as well as how it connects to the rest of the game. Unfortunately of the three stories I think it's the least exciting, and these plot points and their meanings weren't communicated well (at least to me) while simply playing the game. So it's the least exciting of the three stories to me. Of course it goes without saying at this point, but I wish it had more work put into it There are also the problems with whether time is erased or not and whether Blaze's dimension already existed, which is a big issue. He makes a good point at the end of the video when he says that it would be lame to take away all of Silver's character development from his debut game in his later appearances, but that's what I understand the ending of the game to be, and it matches with Sonic Team making ESP Silver a separate character in Runners. As far as I can tell there are (at least) two Silvers, and one is from a deleted timeline
>>41772 I feel like kids at this point probably have gotten used to less interactive shit like watching letsplayers or playing more casual games with relaxed goals and less punishment for fucking up. I think if you gave a modern kid something like Advance 2 they'll deem it unfair and move on to something else.
They showed a new track for CrossWorlds days ago and none of us cared at all https://x.com/RaceCrossWorlds/status/1953230072414122253

>>41778 That's cool, I don't use Twitter.
>>41780 Me neither, since I don't have an account. I kinda want to make one sometimes though. I actually found it from YouTube
Someone on 4chan posted some small screenshot that apparently shows a track based on Soleanna, I'm looking forward to seeing that

>>41783 Yeah I agree, Castle Town is the best hub of the game

These promotions are so bad. On the other hand the trivia is interesting >Roulette Road is back in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, making it the only track to be in every console racing title since Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing! I think I hated the zone in Heroes, not sure what they see in it.
>>41798 I remember hating it too. I recall there was this one annoying part with a 50/50 chance your controls would stop responding and you'd fall off the map, at least on the Xbox version. I like the visuals and the music though.
(5.58 MB 853x480 lego.webm)

They're putting Lego Sonic in Speed Simulator. Has anyone played this game? Is it any good? It always looked like some glorified meme game to me. Also, what are the odds they'll put Lego stuff in Crossworlds now that they seem to be collaborating more? Maybe the Lego figure will be a racer?
>>41798 That track just looks like a generic "casino" zone. You could mix it up with Casino Park, Casino Night Zone, or even Casino Street.
>>41798 Sammy probably mandates that every Sonic game have a casino level or casino elements, so the assets get reused each game. I guess all the bright colors and surreal atmosphere (and some amount of nostalgia) also make the level good for marketing.
>>41801 >Maybe the Lego figure will be a racer? That's a real possibility. I wonder how pissed the fanbase will be if it happens
>>41798 I like the music
>>41801 I wouldn't be surprised
>>41803 >Sammy probably mandates that every Sonic game have a casino level or casino elements kek >>41806 Why would anyone be pissed?

>>41831 >>Shadow Gens had a vocal theme that wasn't in the game Technically it is, but only in the PlayStation version, since that includes Dark Beginnings
>>41832 ps quadruple wins again
Lucas, Denise, and Aida (not sure about the last one, but she has similar hair and a pointy nose) have made their return to the Sonic series after 17 years There are probably more characters that I haven't recognized yet
>>41834 Isn't the manga supposed to take place in Japan? What are all these Spagonians doing there?
There is an old man NPC in Spagonia called Gigi, which is both an Italian name for males and a Japanese word (jiji) that means old man
>>41835 They go to Spagonia in the third chapter

>>41842 Do Eggpawns actually come in smaller sizes?
Will Silver ever recover from this?
It's now illegal to kiss Silver
Silver has no good reason to keep showing up in the series and they should cut him.
>>41846 Same with blaze, they should only show up in stories that actually revolve around them, and knuckles too. Some people get upset by this because they seem to interpret that as meaning characters will be cut as if Sonic Team can't just make story have the master emerald, or stakes high enough to force knuckles off his island or else he will have no island to protect.
>>41846 >>41847 Yep, that’s all true. Let those characters take a break, ya know?
>>41848 Yeah, that's what I hate about the characterfags who insist that their character must be in everything, some characters are better off being used sparingly and a lot of stories are better when they don't have to accomodate a bunch of characters who have their own baggage.
>>41849 Some of us are more privileged
>>41847 Agreed. Character usage always invites a pancakes vs waffles thing because Sonic Team sucks at doing things right. >>41849 Consistent character rotation would alleviate the fears of characters not getting enough screen time. Won't stop the ones that want a specific character in everything but it would be an easy way to please the rest of the fan base
>>41851 They should also make them playable, just being in a game isn't enough (see Colors DS, Generations, Forces)
>>41852 How should they be playable given that they've tried a bunch of different methods of doing this? >The Adventure games gave everyone their own campaign >Heroes made everyone playable, but all controlled at once >Shadow only made everyone (except flight types) playable in co-op >06 gave the extra characters portions of levels >Black Knight made everyone playable, but only in multiplayer
>>41853 I don't mind the variety. My favorite format is SA1, but I understand that's a lot of work the more characters they have. Only Sonic and Knuckles have a good amount of unique stages
>>41854 06's formula sounds good on paper, but I haven't played it so I don't know if the other characters hurt the games pacing. Since I have no experience with 06, I'd have to agree with the adventure formula being the best. Lost World is the only stage in SA1 visited by only two characters (Knuckles and Sonic) when every other stage is visited by three. I can't help but wonder if there was meant to be a third character (presumably Big due to all the water) in Lost World.
>>41855 I played it recently and I like the way it handles it. It also helps that the characters movement types and basic jump feel closer to one another compared to previous games. However I see it as a compromise on SA1's, ideally everyone would have a full story like Sonic in SA1 Also that's interesting, I never noticed that
(340.93 KB 1114x1200 Sonic Battle 2 fan box art.jpg)

I just noticed what it says on Surge's shirt. >>41855 Having just replayed Shadow's Kingdom Valley in Project 06, they're inoffensive but I'd rather have individual campaigns and levels for them since in the remake's case, they're so fun to play as, you're left wanting levels that will allow you to play with their movesets more, see : Amy. The original funnily enough has the opposite problem where they played so terribly they further detract and dissuade players from wanting to progress further in the game-it's little wonder why the shitty friends meme became a thing and led to Sonic Team cutting back on them heavily for years after that game sullied their reputation.
>>41857 >The original funnily enough has the opposite problem where they played so terribly I think it heavily depends on the character and the stage. Shadow and especially Amy are awful, but I think Sonic (with the upgrades), Tails, Omega, and Blaze are alright
Wow, they made official art where Sonic characters are taking blows to the face. I don't remember when was the last time I've seen something like this.

Best Sonic group?: https://xcancel.com/Randomguy9991/status/1955405093001711800 >>41858 Tails' flight has this odd vertical height limit, felt slow, and his dummy ring bombs had animation based delay on the ground, mediocre range, and looked too similar to the actual ones, which became a pain if you're trying to collect or recollect rings after getting hit. Omega's close up spray blast attack also had awful range and wasn't very useful compared to his charged shots. His gliding was slow and would descend rather quickly unless you spammed the button to make him hover indefinitely at the cost of speed and looking like a moron. Blaze felt the best to control in the original, aside from her homing attack occasionally missing and her ground tornado spin stopping after a certain period of time.
>>41864 Never said they're perfect. I like throwing the Dummy Ring Bombs while flying, but it's not as fun from a standstill. I think there are some ways to have a higher height limit but I don't really know how it works. Sonic Team also made Tails faster in TAA, which tells me they were still interested in improving the game and controls after its release. Blaze feels the best to control which is why I put her among the best characters to play as, but she also has two major issues. Her moveset feels like a more limited version of Sonic, and her level design (from what I've played, I haven't completed all the DLCs yet) is too combat focused. Omega is also limited, but I remember enjoying his level design more
>>41865 >I like throwing the Dummy Ring Bombs while flying, but it's not as fun from a standstill. Why did they use dummy rings anyway? Couldn't they have just used ordinary bombs? Having fake rings you can't pick up is such a stupid decision.

>>41907 My biggest complaint with OCremix is that they almost sound nothing like their original song. Like might as well be a different song. That Green Hill sounds nothing like Green Hill except for around the 2 minute mark. The Twinkle Circuit mix and Power Puppet is pretty good though.
>>41906 >What the fuck are they doing? Desecrating beloved melodies
>>41909 Fair enough. The Green Hill remix gives me nostalgic memories of that very old Sonic fangame: Neo Sonic Universe's multiplayer mode. Speaking of >>41905 Radical Highway trying to take Green Hill's throne eh?

>>41910 https://youtu.be/W4WYwSKPk5o They did this with Green Light Ride as well.
>>41874 That can't be the case because Rouge does use proper bombs, while in Heroes both Tails and Rouge use Dummy Ring Bombs.
>>41921 Why can't we have Sonic that looks like this?
>>41921 Looks okay. Interesting that the robot design got reused in Superstars. I guess Superstars really is Mania 2, or what remains of it.
>>41921 Oh I would DRILL her That is a really crisp art style.

I haven't, it looks pretty boring.
>>41936 I know Evening Star as a whole didn't, but I think some of the Mania developers work on Origins and Superstars, right?
>>41936 I scantly recall Stealth expressing his exhaustion towards the end of Origins's development. And after being tasked by Sega to finish and update the remaining ports for Origins as was originally intended in lieu of Mania being its own game, I can see the team yearning to hone their kills on an original 3D project that they can call their own instead of just sticking to Sonic. Even Naka left Sega shortly after 1 released and when he was convinced to rejoin Sega but in America's division, he agreed to do so under the condition that he would not have to work on a sequel to Sonic. https://archive.ph/Ebn9V#selection-3697.1-3729.263 I sort of see Penny as Evening Star's NiGHTS. I suspect some part of them simply wanted to do something besides Sonic to recharge and prove themselves as professionals in their own right. They did, the 30th anniversary also had a bunch of ugly looking colorized coins as well (that sold so poorly that they're still in stock to this day). >Maybe they delayed this year's game for next year to make something more substantial since otherwise whatever they could make for next year would have been very short on dev time. That sounds like a reasonable theory. Though given that TSR and Transformed were both the main releases for their respective years, it may have always been their plan to have Crossworlds be this year's main game.

>>41987 Wait, did it get delayed from the 25th of September? Up to last week they were still posting tweets with that date. Or did you mean Rumble?
Also, looking at the twitter they posted some gameplay of the Cyber Space track and another track named Gold Temple that I don't remember seeing before or hearing before. That track music seems pretty awesome! I think it's the first one to catch my attention so far.

>>42063 Cute! It was funny when Tails did the Omega impression Tails seems great to me here. I don't see him as younger at all. Well, he's supposed to be young anyways, even if mature for his age. He doesn't seem younger or less mature to me here, just more expressive and upbeat than we're used to seeing in the games. I don't think that's necessarily a problem >>42065 Yeah I agree with this too. I remember some time ago I saw someone say Tails is supposed to be a serious character who doesn't joke much, and I guess it's true, that's how he's usually portrayed. I think it's very easy to see in Unleashed, where Chip jokes around and Tails is serious. But these (and TailsTube) are just Sonic and Tails having fun and playing around, I don't think it's bad if he's more relaxed and humorous. The important thing is that he can get serious when things are serious
>>42086 >Tune in August 29th at 11am PT on the Sonic Twitch and YouTube channels for a special livestream to kick off the weekend! Rumor has it we may be sharing our full animation there... Special livestream? Does that mean they'll show other things besides the animation?

>>42105 They always seem to add some major feature to new games that the game revolves around even if they rehash things. They rehashed Generations twice now, focusing on the OC and Shadow, and for Crossworlds they added the portals to other stages. I wonder what they'll come up with for Frontiers 2. They'll suffocate and die if they have to make it any more ambitious. >>42106 The fuck is that.
>Crossworlds is reusing Shadow Gens assets (White Space) >Shadow Gens reused Frontiers assets (Chaos Island) >Frontiers reused Forces assets (Green Hill, Chemical Plant and some of the Eggman structures in the Open World.) >Forces reused Gens assets (Green Hill, Chemical Plant and the Egg Dragoon) Will Sonic Team ever give us a game that doesn't reuse any levels or bosses from the prior game?
>>42109 Kishimoto was surprised when people told him they're tired of returning locations while he was asking for feedback, so hopefully Frontiers 2 is fully original
(96.54 KB 1280x720 IMG_6789.jpeg)

>>42110 I'm surprised that he was surprised, you'd think he'd realize that people tend to catch on to how lazy copypasting things in every game is. Though I guess Kishimoto doesn't think like a rational person.
>>42111 Maybe they thought of it like Mario or Kirby.
>>42109 I wonder what are the chances there's some copypasted code snippet from Sonic 1 in the current games.
>>42115 Zero. Mega Drive games were programmed in its processor's assembly language, which only works for that processor. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still recycling some (likely heavily updated) version of parts of Sonic Adventure's code though, that's not uncommon among video game developers, and Sonic Adventure's programmer is still active at Sonic Team
(78.85 KB 340x500 IMG_7825.jpeg)

>>42116 There's a direct line of recycling through all the Hedgehog Engine games: >Shadow Gens recycles code from Frontiers >Frontiers recycles code from Forces >Forces Recycles code from Lost World >Lost World recycles code from Gens >Gens Recycles code from Unleashed The water becomes a bit muddier before the Hedgehog engine, but there is still a lineage. >Sonic 06 used the same physics engine as Unleashed and Gens, so parts of it were likely recycled in those games. >Sonic 06 likely recycles code from Sonic Team's 2005 Astro Boy game since it also used the Havok Physics Engine. And then the trail is lost, but it seems really likely that they're still reusing code from even earlier. And even if they aren't, they're definitely reusing tons of code from 2008 and very likely reusing stuff from 2005.
>>42117 >And even if they aren't, they're definitely reusing tons of code from 2008 and very likely reusing stuff from 2005. That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen since the 3D games preceding 06 was Shadow and Heroes, both of which ran on EA's Renderware engine. Unless they were re-using content from Riders, which is speculated to be running a modified version of the GX engine: https://archive.ph/Nghvo Which itself is a modified version of the SMB engine.
(248.53 KB 1917x1414 Sonic Movie.png)

Isn't the Sonic Jam hubworld built in the same engine as NiGHTS and built using the scraps of the Saturn port of SA1? I wonder if the Dreamcast version of SA1's engine was built off of NiGHTS' or if they made a new engine for that version. >>42120 The only game from 2005 I suggested they were reusing content from is Astro Boy, which doesn't run on Renderware and uses the same engine as 06. Given that Astro Boy began development under UGA before they were absorbed into Sonic Team, Astro Boy may be built off of Space Channel 5 to some extent. I've heard that Billy Hatcher uses the same engine as the Adventure games, so there's also a chance that code from it (and thus code from the Adventure games) was reused in 06. They both shared Nakamura as director after all, so there's a bit more of a link between those games than meets the eye. >Riders, which is speculated to be running a modified version of the GX engine Interesting, if true that gives Riders a bit more pedigree as a racing game.
Does anyone know why the Lore Team/Sega see certain games as non-canon? What practical reason is there to disavow games in the Sonic timeline?

>>42179 So how does it play anon?
Why does the Switch version of this game want you to have a paid Nintendo Online membership when its multiplayer is crossplatform and doesn't use Nintendo's servers? This is stupid.
>>42181 It's about what I expected really
Played a bit of the Open Network Test and I was underwhelmed, the graphics were shitty (though that's to be expected on Switch), the animations looked cheap and the course layouts just didn't seem very interesting. The bots in Singleplayer were also pretty easy. I wasn't able to play any online due to Nintenjew wanting me to pay, but the singleplayer content looked sparse enough that I don't think I'll be picking up the game until it reaches the bargain bin. Seriously TSR was literal shovelware and managed to include a decent singleplayer campaign while this has nothing beyond beating all the races against bots. >>42182 Because Nintendo's greed knows no bounds. Didn't the Open Network Test website say you didn't need Switch Online to participate in the Test?
>>42182 because JEWtenJEW knows theyll pay for it anyway
>>42184 >Didn't the Open Network Test website say you didn't need Switch Online to participate in the Test? I would like to see a screenshot of that. Fuck Nintendo.
>>42186 https://asia.sega.com/SonicRacingCrossWorlds/en/news/open-network-test.html Damn it, they updated the website. You can play singleplayer without a membership, but need to buy one for multiplayer. Apparently Switch is the only platform that requires you pay to participate in the test, which makes me think this must be some kind of Nintendo policy.
(28.02 KB 369x361 fast2.webp)

>>42184 >open network test >has single player huh >>42187 So how much is that worth? Wasn't the game already like $70 or $80? >fast is the only option kek
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ocBa8jTXUA >Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - The Animation
>>42189 Maybe they want to see if there are any singleplayer bugs and guage how many people would be playing offline. >So how much is that worth? Wasn't the game already like $70 or $80? The game is only $60 on Switch due to its performance being so bad ($80 with all the DLC). The Switch Online requirement adds another $20 per year, so to get the full experience at launch on the Shitch, you'll have to pony up $100.
Cool! It's not goofy and jokey like the TSR animation or Mania Adventures. Also I like the music
>>42191 I think this was made by some rather artistically talented people but it was rather boring, it was just effects and crazy camera work and fast scenes with little actual content. The music started promising but quickly ditched the melodic aspects and it feels like it doesn't know what it wants to be, which is a shame because they were allowed to use actual instruments and not just synths.
There is no reason the character creator from Forces and Sonic Channel shouldn't be in CrossWorlds. The characters it can make even appear as NPCs in the tracks. Let people play with their characters
>>42197 If they give you the ability to create any Sonic character you want, they won't be able to sell you the more obscure characters people would be creating as DLC. Knowing how greedy they've been with this game they'll probably sell the character creator separately after all the other DLC has already released.
>>42197 I imagine they may want to rework some of the game to make it fit in. But the game is already all over the place so it'd fit better in this than in a mainline game like what they tried to do with Forces. >The characters it can make even appear as NPCs in the tracks I noticed that too, they stick out so much because of how bland they look, lol. I wonder if those are dynamically generated or if there are just some static models in the game.
>>42198 The existing OC creator is very limited though >they won't be able to sell you the more obscure characters people would be creating as DLC They're not doing that regardless >>42199 In Forces the background characters were static, they only had a few default ones that they repeated several times. Now that I think about it, they could have used characters made by other players if you were connected to the Internet, that would have been cool even if only for one cutscene
>>42184 The online multiplayer isn't any more fun than the singleplayer, it's almost exactly the same except it feels like you're playing against harder bots.

Damn, I think this might be one of the most expensive Sonic items I've ever seen (outside of second hand collectibles).
I played the ONT online a lot today. It's okay I guess
>>42202 >$1000 for plastic I get that it's high quality, but I bet it costs less than half that to make.
>>42206 Was there a good amount of players?
Did the previous racing games have Red Star Rings or other similar collectibles?
>>42208 Yeah, there's a ton of players. Matchmaking takes like 5 to 30 seconds (I'm guessing, I didn't actually keep track of the time)
(128.42 KB 500x583 iizuka's face when.jpg)

>>42212 Oh nice.
>>42211 Sonic R had Medallions and Riders had the 100 Ring capsules, but beyond that I don't think anything since then has had collectibles.
Got all the Red Star Rings and A ranks in the three tracks the Open Network Test lets you play in single player. I beat my personal bests a few times, I couldn't even get close to S ranks though. I also completed the crossover event. I wanted to get the highest world rank, but while the event is running the game locks you out of getting points for that. The event is over now and I think the game can still be played for a while, but I don't feel like it now. The event its own mechanics, so I don't mind having played it like that
>>42219 >Got all the Red Star Rings So in the mainline games the idea of the red star rings is exploration but I don't imagine there's that much to explore in a racing game, are there lots of hidden shortcuts or are the rings just randomly littered on the track? >I beat my personal bests a few times, I couldn't even get close to S ranks though too slow Maybe there's some stuff you can unlock in the full game to make it easier. Or maybe they'll use the feedback to make the game easier in general.
>>42220 Most of them are just out in the open, so the challenge is more so getting them rather than finding them. This is sometimes the case in the main series too, not all of them are hidden. However, I think every track, or at least many of the ones I played, have an extra path that only appears or unlocks on the third lap, so some of the Red Star Rings are hidden in those. You can't find them in multiplayer, so idk beyond those three tracks, but Luminous Forest has a regular path/shortcut that I didn't notice the first few times I played it, I assume a Red Star Ring is hidden there too The game lets you upload A and S ranks and you can watch other people's replays. S ranks can definitely be gotten in the ONT, I just wasn't able to get them myself. I just need to get better, and maybe understand how the vehicle stats work. I noticed most of the fastest times were using Knuckles, so I assume there's a way to go faster while playing as him, somehow

>>42225 >The game lets you upload A and S ranks and you can watch other people's replays Wait so the game always records you and other people can watch you? Kinda cool but creepy. >>42230 Oh wow, even the animations work.. They should have put Ezio or someone else Roger voices.
>>42232 As far as I know it only records your replays in Time Trial mode, and other players can only watch them if you decide to upload your times to the online leaderboards. Some of the later Dimps games work like this too, I wish these were standard features in regular Sonic games
If you could pick a location from any Sonic media to be made into a track in CrossWorlds, what would you choose?
>>42234 Driving through Black Comet would be interesting.
>>42234 The answer is always Lava Reef. And it'd better be a good remix too.

>>42240 Definitely getting the demo, mastering a couple free tracks can be fun. >It's nice that they're allowing people to try the game as much as they are. They're desperate to not have this not get outshone by MKW, having a free demo makes the game more accessible than Mario Kart and means that they can report a higher number of "players" in their business reports by lumping in demo players with people who bought the game.

>>42239 Interesting >All tracks will be featured in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! I wonder how they'll be used in-game. Are they exclusive to the Japanese version?
>>42243 Me too, that test was great, Crossworlds felt special to me just like Transformed back in the day, I was underwhelmed by Mario Kart 8 but had to play it because Transformed died immediately as a result of its horrible netcode and other circumstances. I was also very annoyed by how underwhelming Team Racing was, Mario Kart World is shit and now Crossworlds is all gone until 22, which sucks. I won't touch the demo because I don't want to burn myself out on some offline modes, it's not the experience I want and expect.
>>42242 I thought that people started hating MKW after Nintendo overpriced it and then repeatedly made multiplayer worse, how could it outshine anything
>>42251 Brand recognition
>>42251 You're correct, current consensus about World is pretty negative and going worse every day, basically. Nobody likes the intermission tracks and the devs do all in their power to force you to play them. I personally don't even like their regular tracks all that much and think something about World is broken at its core. I was not having much fun playing it no matter how many times I tried, and I think some people scapegoat the intermission tracks too much because they don't know why they're not having fun, and it's merely the most annoying and most obvious thing. Either way, it's all a big boon for SEGA because they accidentally timed their release just right to capitalise on the World sentiment.

IDW 81 releases today right?
>>42263 >It's kinda funny that you fags went into this not expecting much or outright dismissing the game and now you seem to like it. It would be nice to not have to immediately dismiss or be indifferent to every upcoming title due to the history of the quality of the franchise As for the demo, I enjoyed it. Game still needs some tweaking and I hope they add more Sonic characters down the line other than the ones already planned
Its gameplay was top notch, so the only problem with Crossworlds I foresee is the paid shop and a possible shitstorm if they "overtune" it. It's going to have one, when I was checking menus in ONT I saw what seemingly was a greyed out, inaccessible shop and a mention of "standard credits" as opposed to "premium credits", I assume, and there will be skins. SEGA has shown a white+blue Sage as playable, but they've also shown the black+red one in one of the pictures before, so the black one must be a skin, likely a free one. Pacman's Ghosts are also apparently going to be accessible as skins. I don't care much if it's just cosmetics in the shop, but it's something to consider.
>>42270 I wouldn't mind this sort of thing if they made the base game cheap or free.

There's a Crossworlds track focused on Eggman called Eggman Expo. Sounds like a cool concept.
>>42291 Is that a remix of Eggman's theme from SA1?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiYfo0Wy2NA New TailsTube. This one is out of schedule, it's basically just advertising CrossWorlds. I'm surprised they made a model for Jet in this style. If they left out the references to previous TailsTube episodes this could have easily been a CrossTalk episode instead
>>42293 Holy shit, Sonic whispering over Jet is the funniest thing I remember coming out of this franchise since Sonic Boom.
>>42282 Holy shit that guy is really annoying, he rambles as if he were high. Anyway, I've always gotten the feeling that a lot of people loved Metal Harbor for some reason and I never got why. It never stood out to me.
>>42293 Nice. I love all the attention Jet is getting with this new game, crosstalk jetstream and now this.
>>42293 You can see some vehicles like a Nights-inspired board and an AiAi banana kart behind Sonic's thick ears around 2:50. I wonder if they will be playable characters at some point. I personally would rather get Sonic characters like Mephiles, Tikal, Sticks or whatever. Maybe even GUN Commander over them, but I realistically know nobody, nobody at all, would be playing that guy except for a few jokes in a video on youtube, which I guess is the same as AiAi and Nights based on my Transformed experience
>>42297 I agree with you, but also I would play the GUN Commander a few times just to celebrate that he's there lol
>>42297 >>42298 I would love to play as Tikal, Maria, Gerald, Black Doom, Mephiles, or the Gun Commander. I get that they aren't as popular but it would be fun just to have them racing with the other characters. Guess I'll have to wait for mods
>>42298 I can already envision what the GUN Commander videos would be like. Probably full of old memes like "BIDEN BLAST" because he sort of looks like him. Week after the release of those videos would be the only time you can realistically see more than 1 GUN Commander once every 30 matches >>42299 You're underrating Mephiles and Maria, they're considerably more popular than the other four and more than quite a few Sonic characters already in the game. I'd even give Mephiles a fair chance of appearing in Crossworlds, but Maria is probably a never-ever
>>42297 >Maybe even GUN Commander over them, but I realistically know nobody, nobody at all, would be playing that guy except for a few jokes in a video on youtube I wonder if there's someone out there that has hyperfixated on him like some do with the other characters. >>42297 >I personally would rather get Sonic characters like Mephiles, Tikal, Sticks or whatever. Tails is alone, trapped in a weird, scary, desolate place. A ghostly figure starts bullying him, calling him a failure. Tails feels sad and demotivated by this. This is just like that time with Infinite! Luckily, Sonic shows up to help. He starts to free Tails, but Tails is more concerned with his emotional state. His biggest desire is to be cool and confident like Sonic, and to be a good partner that Sonic can rely on. He expresses his fears to Sonic. How does he respond? >OPTION A "You're just a kid Tails, it's okay that you shit yourself lmao, now I'm taking care of this, okay?" Tails concludes that he is fundamentally flawed and needs to take some alone time to go on an off-screen life-changing adventure in which he becomes a completely unrecognizable character >OPTION B "I don't like to admit it, but I rely on you a lot. You are capable and have many achievements. Your help is always valuable to me. I admire you." Tails concludes that he shouldn't let these thoughts take over him, he is reminded of his strength and feels encouraged to work hard. He confidently promises that he will continue to do his best like he has in the past Which one is better?

This multi level design they used in Rooftop Run Market Street looks pretty fun and feels pretty Sonic considering the whole thing about having different routes, it'd be interesting if they elaborated on it some more and made the upper routes faster but more difficult.
>>42333 Oh, cool. They should do that more
>>42323 What is there to even talk about in terms of Sonic? I can rant about how Lost World 3DS is the worst Sonic game again, but beyond that everything worth discussing right now has already been discussed.

>>42341 >Secret Rings' platfroming was enjoyable, but kind of held back by the controls >Forces was 90% 2D Mario Maker style spammed platforms without any real reason I assume you must be referring to the platforming in Colors or Frontiers. The one problem with it was how automated it was.
>>42345 I've played Colors, Forces, and Frontiers. Colors is my favorite, Forces (Modern/Avatar 2D) to me feels like a worse Colors. Frontiers has a lot of bad 2D, but the 3D is alright, and even great in The Final Horizon. I think all three of these games have a very similar feel in their level design I'm curious to see how similar they are to Secret Rings and Black Knight when I get to play those. I assume it's not quite the same, but they're made by the same team, so there should be some similarities

>>42358 This plot twist is really funny to me. What makes it so fun? It looks like just about any other racing game.
>>42359 I'm not a game designed so I couldn't tell you for sure, since you aren't COMPLETELY wrong, it looks just like any kart racer. But something about the way the game is designed just makes it feel so good and fun to play. Being able to choose between a car and extreme gear makes a real difference in how the game feels, and the license plate mechanic adds to that too, so it lets you play around w customization a ton aside from customizing your vehicle in general. And all the characters and interactions just add a lot of flair, which is a breath of fresh air in a franchise as sterilized as this. I don't really consider any kart racing game 70$ fun but if it were more around 40$ or maybe even 50$, I would've definitely gotten it. (Also I say this but if it had Mina mongoose, I would've paid 70$ twice if I had to). I'll get it once it goes on discount, if that doesn't happen too late.

Switch around the order in which the songs play in the Perfect Chaos fight. I've seen more Waves for sure, and I think I've seen more FUCKING STORMS as well. Barafags are everywhere nowadays I guess. Back to Amy, it felt like she was around Zazz and Eggman in usage, at the very bottom. My experience is of just one man tho.
>>42442 >just remember Knuckles was in the beta Fuck, he may be together with Zazz, Amy and Eggman at the bottom

We've had nearly 1 million downloads! 🏅 >And nearly 10 million races played! >\ >Let's get excited together for the release of the demo next week and the full version the week after! 👍 Against all odds it seems this may actually end up a pretty big success. >>42433 >3) Jet Oh wow, I can't believe they actually managed to make him that popular, lol >>42441 That would be cool. >>42442 >Barafags are everywhere nowadays I guess kek
>>42444 >video What is that >nearly 1 million downloads How many copies do you think the game will sell?
>>42445 >What is that A delivery robot painted with a Crossworlds ad in LA. >How many copies do you think the game will sell? In what time span? It looks like it's gonna be significant, I'd guess around 1.5-2 million in a reasonable amount of time after launch. Which I think is probably comparable to TSR and other games, but cumulative sales after launch may go beyond that, specially after it gets a discount.
Another track I think is new, Blizzard Valley. I have to say I really like the different arrangements I've been seen they're doing with rings and stage props, they remind me of Runners.
Some more stats https://nitter.poast.org/RaceCrossWorlds/status/1966577558272737388 The most selected main courses were... >1) Apotos >2) Metal Harbor >3) E-Stadium >4) Mystic Jungle >5) Colorful Mall Do you think the list reflects which stages were the best? What was (You)r favorite?
>>42450 I mostly didn't care because all the tracks were very good and there were none I actively disliked, but I was the least likely to pick Rainbow Garden by the end. At first I was picking Apotos whenever I saw it because I figured out the shortcut very quickly and others didn't and with double boost starter it was guaranteed, and then I was picking it for the chaos at the start and some parts of the track, but then I got just as likely to pick anything but it. What stage I voted for mostly depended on my mood at that point
Just got all 120 Red Star Rings in Forces Fourth one in Chemical Plant was hard to find since it was on a path all of its own. And for the last one in Park Avenue I had to switch to a Lightning Wispon. I don't know if there was another way to get it I'm surprised there's another Extra stage. I thought I played all of them already
>>42452 What's the last extra stage like? I always wanted ti try it out, but I'm not in the mood to devote that much time to Forces.
>>42453 Just S ranked it. It's fun, but it's just another short Plasma Cannon stage. It doesn't feel like a reward for getting all the Red Star Rings, it's in the same style as the other Extra stages
>>42450 I didn't like Apotos because the start was too confusing. I liked Metal Harbor, E-Stadium, Rainbow Garden. Although I don't know how much of that is the layout, I was probably choosing more so based on the music and aesthetics. I think I felt somewhat confident in Water Palace, so that's another one I picked. I didn't get to play Mystic Jungle much, but I think the start was kind of replicating the layout of the start of Aqua Road in Forces, I kinda liked that
I think we should be getting a new Blade of Courage chapter today. I don't remember which exact day it comes out
>>42456 I thought it was more towards mid month and then it may take a few days for it to get scanlated. Either way I'd welcome it sooner, I could really use something like it right now.
>>42450 I think I enjoyed playing Colorful Mall the most. That stage has a lot of routes to take and plenty of space to maneuver around players/hazards without losing momentum. Metal Harbor and Apotos are pretty simple in comparison but I only got tired of them because they were picked the most. I like Rainbow Garden but it was my least favorite.
>>42435 Extreme gear meta. She has amazing handling and was the best at snaking for that.
What are some zones where you got really fucking frustrated and annoyed and had to retry a lot? Am I the only retard to have experienced something like this? I feel like anons don't talk about their negative experiences enough. No, the barrel doesn't count.
>>42460 But is that really the reason people picked her so much? I doubt most knew this (I played for several hours and I don't even know what that means)
>>42461 I think most people struggled with the Knuckles and especially Rouge stage os in SA2. Or did you mean only in 2D?
>>42457 Wait a second, it's already out and translated
>>42463 >the Knuckles and especially Rouge stage os in SA2 Oh fuck I had forgotten about that completely, I also did struggle a lot with that. >Or did you mean only in 2D? No, in general.
>>42461 Chaos Angel is my least favorite zone the entire franchise and it sucked that it was the final zone of Advance 3. Every act felt like a chore that led up to annoying boss. The Gmerl fight before the boss along with the extra boss was fun though. >>42462 You would start seeing a lot more Jet and Cream as you climbed higher up on the leaderboard. The sweaty/competitive players picked them. Overall though I think people just missed Cream being playable in anything along with Jet so that's why they were popular in the ONT.
>>42457 >>42464 Just read it. Actual spoilers Not what I expected. I thought it was going to have Yuta meet Knuckles or some other game character, but instead it's just a fun little one off and probably self-contained adventure. I like it. Also I was surprised to see dinosaurs. Kinda disappointed that Tails didn't go with them, but I still enjoyed it. I would like to see more adventures like these, as long as they don't always focus on just Sonic and Yuta, and they don't become formulaic.
>>42466 I think one of the acts was a boring autoscroller, but I always liked the music and aesthetics.
>>42468 Yeah that was Act 3. The zone itself does a good job at setting the tone for the finale, but I hate the level layout across every act and the mechanics in them. I would use Knuckles w/Tails to try and get around in Act 3 so I would have more to do than stay on the gondolas.
>>42469 I haven't played Advance 3 in a long time, but that's understandable. I hope I'm not disappointed by the level design when I replay it, it was one of my first games and I liked it a lot. At least I know for sure that the music and art don't disappoint
>>42467 Now storytime it.

>>42474 After watching that I feel like I have no idea what the fuck that is about.
I was listening to the Rhythm Thief's OST recently and I noticed it sounded a lot like the music in Lost World, and then I noticed it was made by Ohtani. https://youtu.be/EoWPHgn0jNo Interesting how he's gone through phases of the different types of music he's made, in the early 2010s, he made soundtracks that sounded like this, while from Forces onwards he's been more focused on EDM type music.
>>42476 Rhythm Thief is also directed by Shun Nakamura, and the story was written by Makoto Goya (who later wrote Forces). It's almost a Sonic Team game
I think it would be cool if they made a Sonic game without high stakes and a major threat. Just Sonic and Tails exploring a new location and helping the locals who live there. Something like Unleashed, but more focused on that aspect
>>42478 I feel people would hate it. Personally I would like something that deviates from the usual formula, specially something that involved more character interactions and played a bit different, like an RPG or something involving combat.
>>42479 You're probably right, I didn't consider public perception. I guess it's never happening then
>>42476 >Interesting how he's gone through phases of the different types of music he's made, in the early 2010s, he made soundtracks that sounded like this Yeah, and in between you have stuff like Runners. I've also found it interesting, the transitions are pretty well defined. >while from Forces onwards he's been more focused on EDM type music I really hope this phase ends soon though, I can't stand it. His compositions in the other styles felt like much better music. >>42477 lol
>>42481 What do you think his next phase will be?
(205.12 KB 392x443 suicide.png)

>>42483 Dubstep, I have no doubt.
>>42485 Why did they think that was a good choice of Music? I get that Boom feels very unSonic-y to begin with, but dubstep neither fits normal Sonic nor Boomnic.
>>42485 Oh yeah, I remember that, but that wasn't by Ohtani and I don't think there was any in the game. I wonder if people would lose their shit like they did back then if Sega released a trailer like this again. I get the feeling fans would be a lot more indifferent.
>>42486 This was the era where SoA didn't allow Sonic Team to make vocal tracks while they kept choosing these unfitting songs for the trailers. Generations and Lost World had the same issues. It wasn't until Lost World and Boom failed that things got back to normal. Then Forces failed too and we got a drought. >>42487 I know, I just thought it was funny that Sonic already got associated with dubstep once.
>>42486 >Why did they think that was a good choice of Music? It was popular I guess. It's not like they made any good decisions around that time.
Should Sally Acorn be reintroduced into the games? How would you feel if she did?
>>42496 I don't think she fits the main canon, so I don't want to see that. They should put her in side games like CrossWorlds and Speed Simulator to make her fans happy though.
>>42496 As long as the game is good I don't mind, I kinda miss the Archie cast and would like more stories with them, though it could be its own thing and not necessarily in the main games space. Personally I'd like a game that is sort of inspired in the medieval aspects of Archie like castles and kingdoms and stuff, but without getting to bullshit levels like it sometimes did there. >>42498 >They should put her in side games like CrossWorlds and Speed Simulator to make her fans happy though. Probably a good approach. >I don't think she fits the main canon, so I don't want to see that Not even in minor roles?
>>42499 She always seems kinda out of place to me for whatever reason, even after the redesigns. Maybe I'm just biased, I don't know.
>>42496 I'm not a Sally fan, but I would be open to seeing her officially canonized if it were done in a tasteful manner. Obviously, she cannot have a common backstory with Sonic. >>42500 >She always seems kinda out of place to me for whatever reason Didn't stop the Zeti.
>>42504 I don't like the Zeti either.
>>42477 Given that it has cameos from other Sonic Team franchises (Samba de Amigo, Feel the Magic and Space Channel 5), it probably was made by Sonic Team and just doesn't use the Sonic Team branding. Sakura Wars and the new Samba de Amigo were like this too.
>>42508 That makes sense. Samba de Amigo was the only one I recognized, and that was also directed by Shun Nakamura, so I thought it was more so because of him
>>42504 >Obviously, she cannot have a common backstory with Sonic So what, basically like a new character? One that looks like her and has a similar characterization but no story?
More Crossworlds stats! The most equipped gadgets were... 1) Air Trick Expert 2) Lv2 Quick Charge 3) Lv1 Quick Charge 4) Boost Tuner 1 5) Air Trick Bounty The most selected CrossWorlds were... 1) Dragon Road 2) Holoska 3) Roulette Road 4) Dinosaur Jungle 5) Sky Road
>>42514 I'm not sure what to make of the crossworlds stats. I don't think I ever saw a 2nd lap choice that wasn't a crossworld track vs random track. I really don't like random track always being one of the options, it makes the choice a lot less interesting.
>>42514 I'll be honest, most of the times I was picking the track I was so preocuppied on click the button to periodically look behind my back to see if I should do something to avoid a potential hit that I rarely paid any attention to which ring I will go through, but I agree, Dragon Road is awesome. I wonder about Kraken Bay though because I think was coded to be rare? I barely saw it appear, it was an option like 3 times in over 20 hours and it was chosen all those times. I barely touched it compared to the others. Maybe that's just randomness at play, but then I think I prefer the other CrossWorlds anyway, even if I barely got to play on the Bay
>>42517 SEGA's marketing has been impeccable this time around.

Sega please gives us another Segata styled ad, your game is gonna fail if you don't do this.
>>42523 The only Sonic game that got a Segata ad was Sonic R, so making one for another racing game would be fitting.
We really need some positive, major Sonic news now.
The offline demo is releasing tomorrow, right?
(194.27 KB 421x472 magical realm.png)

>>42525 Maybe the last special character reveal will be major Sonic news. Could be positive. Or not. >>42526 Well, technically Wednesday.
>>42527 It will most likely just be more crossover trash, unfortunately.
Oh yeah Sonic Rumble exists.
>>42529 >Sonic Rumble Legit forgot about that, but I'm still enthusiastically waiting for Blitz even if it's just a card game with 3D renders
>>42530 I wish they'd use the characters in something more substantial.
Do you guys think Victoria will be a major character in the next game, or are they going to keep her as a character for side media stuff with at most vague references in the games?
>>42531 I know and I hate how much I'm willing to accept crumbs over nothing
>>42533 I don't play phone games, so it doesn't affect me. At most I'll see it as a small source of hope that it makes SEGA realize people care about the characters.
>>42379 >Project ONSOKU - Vol. 4! >Title: TREASURE GARDEN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIpHyjsv_84 The illustrations are cool I guess, but man, my ears.
>>42542 This one sounds kinda nice to me lol
>>42532 How good is Ian at foreshadowing? If this is his attempt at creating some kind of franchise mystery, then I really don’t know what to make of it. On one hand, some people are saying that she might be Maria's sister or relative, but so what? Seriously, why would it even matter if another member of Robotnik's family shows up now? Characters like Gerard, Maria, and our Eggboy matter because of their circumstances and roles in the franchise. Just being a Robotnik doesn’t mean anything. Nobody cares about Eggman Nega because he’s basically a huge fat nothingburger in the series. The character being teased doesn’t matter right now. What really matters is the act of teasing AND THE FINAL RESULTS. If they’re going to do something with this Victoria stuff, they better not mess it up. I WANT THE BEST SONIC GAME EVER OUT OF THIS. I will settle for nothing less.
>>42542 Also I heard a part that reminded me of Escape from the City, but from the comments it seems it's intentional
>>42544 That's a good point. Was this Ian's work? I was under the impression Evan was involved. I think this, as well as Frontiers, did a good job setting up mysteries and getting people to talk about them and speculate. It's just that the conclusions aren't very satisfying so far.
I think a part of the song sounds like the Chao races theme too... There's probably more I haven't noticed
Another Crossworlds level, Crystal Mine. The music seems nice.
>>42549 Surprised they made an original level theme when they could've easily remade Quartz Quadrant with most of the same assets. This is so unlike them (and it's a good thing).
(4.22 MB 1280x720 Coral Town.webm)

>>42550 There's been so many new tracks that I've lost track (lol) of what's entirely new or based on a previous zone and I'm just assuming they made a ton of new tracks, which is indeed weird. They always skimp out on the main content.
>>42551 >Coral Town I wonder if this is based on Coral Cave or is the theming just a coincidence?
>>42552 Blaze mentions Marine in Japanese, and in English she says that it reminds her of home. They chose Blaze specifically to show those lines. I think it's supposed to be reminiscent of Coral Cave. Why didn't they just use Coral Cave, though?
>>42549 >The music seems nice. That was my first impression as well. And seeing all those excavators and dump trucks really tickles my autism.
>>42557 I don't miss the Advanced series but rush was fine, it felt like a well rounded game. Except the fucking special stages and last boss, fuck that.
>>42557 Same, I wish Dimps kept making good Sonic games.
52% of the people that played crossworlds didn't even try
>>42564 This is for the online ranking, right? I wanted to try to get the top ranking there, but I mostly played during the day that forced you into a crossover event, so I ended up maxing the points in that instead.
>>42565 It's the "online rank distribution from World Match", so I guess yes.

>>42558 I feel the opposite >>42559 I'm happy that Dimps moved on to even bigger and better things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRMNAAXlnFI

You can play the three tracks from the offline version of the ONT in Gran Prix and Time Trial. You can only play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, and you can't use Extreme Gear. It looks like you can't get titles besides the default one. If you've played the ONT, there's nothing here that you haven't done already. You can access the Race Park menu, which wasn't possible in the ONT, but you can't use it. It seems to be for local multiplayer only? The modes here are: >Triple Team Grab - 3 teams, 1 mission: Get those Rings! >Double Team Shoot-out - Take aim and attack the opposing team! >Quick Match - A ?? (12?) player race to the finish! >Triple Team Tap Boost - Run ??? your allies for a kick of speed! >Double Team Dash Panel - Dash off to victory! >Extreme Match - Race with only the heavy hitter items! >Custom Match - Pick your own rules and hit the tracks!
>>42574 I agree, that's why I specified "good".
>>42573 Didn't they already make Dragon Ball games while they were making Sonic? Or are you saying those games weren't as good?
What if Sonic had fall damage?
>>42577 It was a joke. I never expected them to do a dating sim esque questline for Xenoverse 2 (or continue to support that game to this day after its initial release for that matter) >>42578 They sort of did that in Unleashed already and I didn't like it
>>42582 Holy shit, so many games, and so many cool looking ones. Despite each game only having a few seconds of time, they still managed to stitch up a 20 minute video. Imagine how long this must have taken to make. Also that Free remix is amazing.
You know, it's be easier to post to this website if it'd stop breaking all the time. Also if it didn't have that really gay disclaimer.
>>42584 Did it break today? I haven't noticed anything
>>42585 hasn't broken in a while for me.

Crossworlds releases in just 1 week! Are you fags excited?
>>42591 I'll give the demo a try, but I'm not going to buy it until it's on sale for $30-40, so I'm not really hyped for it right now. Also the lack of a mission mode is really annoying for me to say the least. >>42575 How many Crossworlds are in the demo?
>>42592 I don't know, sorry.

>>42591 Didn't care at all when it was announced, started to see what they were cooking with the gadgets trailer, and the open network test got me hooked. Thought it might wear off after a few weeks, but now that it's a week away, yeah, I'm hyped.
There's gonna be a Crossworlds IDW one shot comic >Drift into the many worlds of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in this crossover with SEGA's newest game! >When the eccentric noble Dodon Pa needs help testing out his travel rings, Sonic and his friends are the first to try their luck racing across dimensions! With a bang, the competitors are off in the scramble for first place… but when unknown glitches get into this high-speed race, Tails and Tangle get separated in an all-new world! Now the pair are forced to drive their way out, while their friends must overcome the competition to help them!
Also here's the IDW Sonic #84 solicit >Metal Sonic has gone missing! In his desperation, Dr. Eggman promises Belle the Tinkerer that he'll remove her connection to the ruthless robot if she uses it one last time to find him. Not trusting the mad scientist, Belle agrees only as long as Sonic comes as protection. Backed into a corner, Dr. Eggman concedes with a condition of his own. As Belle and Sonic set out on their quest, they must be accompanied by one of his greatest creations—the artificial intelligence Sage! How will the robotic "family" react to this unexpected reunion? Don't miss Sage's official IDW debut as the next arc on the road to #100 starts here!
>>42599 So is there going to be a timeskip at the beginning of this to accomodate Frontiers or are they just going to give Sage a different origin story for the comics?

>>42610 They showed a few new tracks in that video, I couldn't tell what a couple of them were, but I did see that Hidden World, the final level from Lost World is a track. Who asked for this?
>>42610 This is definitely the tackiest vocal theme in terms of the lyrics just describing the gameplay and repeating the game's title, but I really like the melody. People said it sounds like an Anime OP and it really does now that I'm hearing the full version and I kind of like that. >The song actually says "Steal their Souls" Why? What does this even mean in the context of the game?
>>42616 >Who asked for this? I don't know, man. I think they had too much budget and ran out of ideas or something.
>>42617 This again? It could just mean "steel your soul", like so: https://genius.com/Shawn-mcpherson-and-david-baker-devils-never-cry-lyrics >>42616 Looks cool, at least it looks better than whatever the fuck the last Hidden World level looked like.
>>42620 He's saying that because they released an official lyrics video that says "steal". I'm confused too
>>42615 Dread uses a remix of Unknown from ME (version 1). I don't recognize the music for Rusty and Nine. Are those original?
Does anyone know what this is?
>>42624 Maybe that's what you get if you play against Sonic as Supersonic.
Seems like the final special character was leaked to be Mega Man after all. Nights is in the game's box too.
>>42627 >spoiler It's crazy that the first bit of playable Megaman content in half a decade is a DLC for a Sonic game, really goes to show how little Capcom cares about their own IP. >NiGHTS is on the box It would be weirder if NiGHTS weren't on the box given that he's been in every other Sonic game that's had crossover characters. Shame they're still using the JoD model though.
Are you gonna be a brand slut anon?
>>42629 Do you think having any of these ads on your car will increase the amount of XP you earn? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hMXlW6_MCI This guy is (slowly) playing through the 3D Sonic games for the first time. I don't know how honest he is, he gives me the impression that he lies sometimes. He got to Sonic 2006 and he claims that he is surprised and that he likes it. Which is strange if true given that he hated SA2, or so he claimed after playing Final Rush, earlier in the game he was calling it peak. He got a lot of hate over his take on SA2, so maybe he only says these things for attention. I don't like to assume that people are lying though.

It's so weird to me that modern games don't invert horizontal camera movement by default. When I played Frontiers that was the first setting I changed. I didn't even realize I was used to it being inverted until I played a game that had it like that.
>>42665 It is a Sonic game which means it will be something to talk about even if it is just a kart racer
>>42668 I thought I always used it non inverted, and I remember poking fun at a friend years ago about him using it inverted, but when I played SxSG it just felt weird no matter how I had it set up for some reason.
>>42670 I don't know which one feels more natural to an inexperienced player, but all the old games were inverted with no option to change it. I don't want to or even care to get used to non inverted.
So are people playing CrossWorlds now?
>>42672 Maybe the demo. The early unlock is in like 12 hours or something.
>>42673 Oh, I assumed it was unlocked by now.
