Gawker is rebranding itself as a politics site Leader 11/17/2015 (Tue) 21:27:13 Id: 0288fa No. 299295
Damage control intensifies - Gawker to Retool as Politics Site' https://archive.is/ecIGc >The change, which comes as part of a broad reorganization of the site’s parent company, Gawker Media, was announced in a memo to the staff on Tuesday. The site, wrote Gawker’s founder, Nick Denton, “will ride the circus of the 2016 campaign cycle, seizing the opportunity to reorient its editorial scope on political news, commentary and satire.” >The shift comes after a controversy over the publication and subsequent retraction of an article this summer that led to the resignations of two top editors. The company will now focus on its seven core sites, which include the technology site Gizmodo and the sports site Deadspin, and close smaller offshoots like Defamer, a Hollywood site.
amusing, but I find myself slightly disinterested in hunting the same rabbit twice. Not shilling, but if you still feel passion for Gawker's sorry state, motivation will be a hurdle in getting me to go after them again. I'm not expecting them to have a big presence with Hulk's trial going well for now.
>>299300 Also, Gawker/Kotaku has been oddly quiet the last couple of months regarding gamergate and shitting on gamers (from what I recall at least). It seems like Polygon took up the slack in that department.

A couple more articles on the rebranding. Gawker will become a politics site — and that means layoffs - uk.businessinsider.com https://archive.is/2xqOK Gawker Lays Off Staff as Site Pivots to Politics - observer.com https://archive.is/Ku60K

Bout damn time, does this means affiliate sites will probably die off? >kotaku has died in your lifetime.
>>299295 >and satire There, that's the sole thing they'll do. Horribly. Posing as if it's intelligent political commentary.

I noticed Moot's buddy is scheduled to leave within the year. I imagine before they get leg-dropped they will leave with healthy reverences with a future little kickback to Denton when Gawker Media is finally sunk. The funny thing to me with these layoffs is that they are so salty they are let go with so little compared to the last rats that will be 'scheduled' to leave. Who would of thought a sinking ship full of sociopaths would end so nastily? It is only going to get worse from here. Wait to the throwing under the bus starts from the ex-employees who suddenly get that they were the disposable pieces of shit that were let go early because they are getting what they are worth, little to none.

>>299375 I love this ride.
(184.52 KB 850x1275 1438839570750.jpg)

>>299375 I'm sure they got generous layoff packages from gawker to cushion the blow of getting the pink slip.
>>299300 I'm torn between wanting to give them a chance to move on from lashing out at gamers and try to be something better (as unlikely as that seems with Denton still in charge), and not wanting to let them have an opportunity to recoup lost finances and staff. I guess we'll wait and see whether the layoffs include Grayson and Hernandez? Maybe, God willing, all of Kotaku will be pruned?
>>299319 Gawker.com is an affiliate site. This is a decision made by Gawker Media.
Nice to see layoffs at Jezebel, Maddy Myers wasn't one which is too bad, considering she was just hired in this year.
(41.65 KB 498x798 layofftweets.png)

>>299367 I love this one from Jane Marie. Truly salty. Should we maybe reach out to the new Gawker editor-in-chief and introduce ourselves? "Hi, your predecessor shittalked us, so we cost him 8 figures in ad revenue. Would you like to have a point of contact with us and know what went wrong/how to communicate with us going forward? :^) "

>>299464 Twitter verification is such a strange process, how this feminist got it with only 7k followers is a mystery. She sure is mad though. My schadenfreude is in overdrive today & I haven't even seen her work before.
(2.80 MB 294x238 1447166500295.gif)

can't wait to see all these cocksuckers get their shit pushed in. fuck you Grayson
Gawker probably got a huge grant off one of Shillarys backers to do this. Im sure its not as much as the amount we cost them by getting them blacklisted from their advertisers, but its probably enough to fund the site even if nobody goes on it.
>>299528 even though Gawker burned, the IT infrastructure is there and the site itself is the equivalent of a "fixer-upper" if you compared it to real estate. The staff are furniture, replace it and you have a fully functioning network for any flavor of content you want. Not a bad investment for the right price, if you wanted to step into a pet project like this.
>>299316 Good gravy, but Feminism really s just a shield to these bastards isn't it?
>>299347 Kotaku is toxic and FUBAR by the Gamergate backlash and if they are moving towards politics and purging shit, Kotaku would be the first to go. Plus there is the angle of killing Kotaku and then bringing the website back under a new name in a year or two, if the politics angle flops or they think the heat has died down enough to try again and think that a brand new name might allow them cover
>>299412 Grayson will probably be amongst the last rats on the ship. Or worse, given a huge on the downlow, just for him golden parachute to make him go quietly, given the shit that Doctor Nerdlove has said about Grayson
(53.70 KB 300x470 serveimage.jpg)

This is it. Direct evidence Gawker is dying and we injected it with cancer. This business plan is SHIT. SHIIIIIT! This election cycle is being driven by conservatives. None of those people are going to want to read anything by these worthless hipster fucks about politics. Also NO ONE is going to read some bullshit ex-gossip site to hear about Shilary. No one fucking likes her, even her own base. THERE IS NO AUDIENCE FOR THIS CRAP. They're talking about the Daily Show, but the Daily Show's ratings are in the dumpster. Also if Jezebel is shifting away from whiny feminism, that underlines how much that shit is flopping with the general public after this last charge to shove it down everyone's throats. We're winning.
>>299681 >"we injected it with cancer." >implying they weren't already cancer >implying we aren't mercy killing them for humane reasons.
>>299707 This. I may add that nothing will save Denton's soul other than making him a pauper. SAVE NICK DENTON! captcha euedgy
Any news on Hogan's case?
So who are they going to compete with? Salon.com? Should we expect articles defending pedos, attributing collective guilt to all whites, muh #notallmuslims, Caitlyn Jenner is a brave stunning woman, etc.? They're probably rebranding themselves because dropping their journalistic pretentions means it'll be easier to use the we're-not-reporters defense, you know we're just an opinion website did you see that little disclaimer at the very bottom of our pages?
>>299528 >Gawker probably got a huge grant off one of Shillarys backers to do this. That wouldn't be surprising. They're probably already working on anti-Trump smear jobs. And maybe they'll start going after stand-up comedians who laugh at Clinton even though it will backfire. It wouldn't be the first time they shoot themselves in the foot. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2015/11/clinton-goes-after-laugh-factory-comedians-for-making-fun-of-her/ >Masada told Judicial Watch that, as soon as the video got posted on the Laugh Factory website, he received a phone call from a “prominent” person inside Clinton’s campaign. “He said the video was disgusting and asked who put me up to this,” Masada said. The Clinton staffer, who Masada did not want to identify, also demanded to know the names and phone numbers of the comedians that appear in the video. Masada refused and hung up.

>>299750 Hogans lawyers were still going over evidence looking to prove Gawker leaked the audio tape stuff of Hogan saying the word nigger. Hogan also got the judge to agree if they can prove Gawker was behind the leak that his lawyers can move for summary judgment, which means the judge can decide the case then and there; a horrible worst case scenario for Gawker since it means a 99.9% chance they will lose and be double fucked in terms of how much they will have to pay Hogan in damages, as well as killing all hope for an appeal to lessen the amount/get the loss overturned, in terms of their retaliation making it flat out impossible to get an appeals judge to give them a do over. As such, Denton and his lawyers are doing their DAMNEST to delay delay delay. They have moved the trial to next spring, which will probably be delayed again if they can help it.
>>300016 Have to buy enough time to move money over into private accounts. Embezzling isn't quick, you know?
>>299967 He's such a snake. I can't believe what a weasel he is.
>>299551 whats the chances of 8ch buying out gawker?
>>300144 More like stalling for the sake of stalling. In civil lawsuits, the general strategy is to stall stall stall and try and drag shit out so that one side eventually goes broke. Hogan lost a huge chunk of his income from the divorce and being blacklisted by the WWE. With the new changes being made to rebrand Gawker a politics site, I would not be shocked if Gawker's hoping the relaunch will bring in enough money to keep the lawyers asking for enough continuances until Hogan goes broke.
>>299300 Well, from the beginning the plan was to burn them to the ground for being such a useless shitrag. Operation DN could still use the occasional e-mail if you're up for it.
