LynxChan 2.7 + Aleph Changelog: Love Letter Edition Codexx Root 02/20/2022 (Sun) 08:26:48 Id: 7c5adb No. 4917
Apologies for the late changelog, but 2.7 was a little unfinished and I wanted to see it polished off. This is a combined changelog for 2.7.0 through 2.7.5. Functionality Added Multiboard menu for users with JavaScript enabled. This will let you create, name, and manage Multiboards. This is a first iteration and we have a few ideas for how to improve it. Refactored a number of forms. Custom Thumbnails are now available. Let us know if you think any file formats should have their own thumbnail! You can now send multiple reports at once. Style & Markdown Dice now preserves each roll. These can be viewed by hovering over the roll. 10d6 = 45 Markdown FAQ has been updated. Fixes Fixed board message formatting regression. Fixed Loading text sticking around after a hover reply loads. Fixed some issues with filtering/hiding. Improved XSS security. Thanks to ipsec for bringing this issue to our attention. Fixed crash related to LaTeX input. Fixed APNG thumbnails animating in some circumstances. Fixed /last/ pages outliving their threads. Fixed Trashed posts showing on multiboards. Fixed a bug where deletion permissions could be ignored. Implemented stricter formatting for banners and flags. Referrer will now be hidden when opening external links. Coming Soon Multiboard manager improvements. Hotlink improvements. We're still looking at a mobile rework, but it's taking much longer than anticipated. As usual, please let us know if something is broken.

>>4917 >Fixed some issues with filtering/hiding. Hiding threads is still broken and they still return after a refresh-- >Fixed Loading text sticking around after a hover reply loads. You fixed this, but broke it even worse in another way. Now you can only hover a post link once for a preview. After that, it will not link to the post anymore unless you refresh (and then it will only work once again to give a preview, and break)--
>>4918 >vpn Trying to hide your crime, pussy?

>>4922 >(668.32 KB 1152×2048 1611673219049-448.jpg) I'm also getting this weird sizing text on my posts that lasts until I refresh. Not really an issue there, but strange and only started happening now--
>>4917 > As usual, please let us know if something is broken. Something is broken: normal people. Make sure you are unable to be taken down!! Make your website something like P2P!! MAKE SURE YOU NEVER GET TAKEN DOWN BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU! <3 Although there is no Democrat activism allowed, there is still a wholesome vibe in even this amount of freedom. You can call yourself angels of freedom. You are nor good nor evil angels, but you provide something that was pushed down so much, that it's a miracle we still have it - freedom.

>>4917 >Added Multiboard menu for users with JavaScript enabled. This will let you create, name, and manage Multiboards. This is a first iteration and we have a few ideas for how to improve it. What's a multiboard and how do I enable it? >Custom Thumbnails are now available. Let us know if you think any file formats should have their own thumbnail! All of them. Currently .txt, .zip, .swf, audio files, and any other non-image non-video format shares the same diskette thumbnail. It would be cool to open a thread/contest for that. >Fixed Loading text sticking around after a hover reply loads. I still can see it. >Implemented stricter formatting for banners and flags. Can you provide details on this? >As usual, please let us know if something is broken. In my case inline replies are totally broken. Clicking on a quoted post number doesn't open it inside the post quoting it (as inline replies should do), but it doesn't move the page to where the quoted post is located (the "classic" behavior). Opening the console returns multiple errors and warnings as seen in pic related. Another thing I noticed is a 4x4 px square at the bottom left corner of every reply, which according to the inspector belongs to the class "altBacklinks" but does nothing. Other users also have been reporting that the quick reply window gets stuck in the mobile layout and can't be closed, but since I never browse on my phone I can't confirm it. Regardless, thanks for all the effort put in maintaining this site.
not kazu related dont care loser
We're looking into fixes for reply hovers, post hiding, inline replies, etc. Please be patient. >>4926 What's a multiboard and how do I enable it? Click the Infinity icon to the right of the Overboards. You can generate your own Multiboards and name them for quick reference. >It would be cool to open a thread/contest for that. Not a bad idea. >I still can see it. Probably cache, although hovering twice no longer works and we're working on that. >Can you provide details on this? That's a fix from upstream; as far as I can tell it just makes sure it's a valid image. >all the rest We're looking into them now. Thank you!

>>4929 >Click the Infinity icon to the right of the Overboards. You can generate your own Multiboards and name them for quick reference. ayy lmao, this is neat Just one thing, every time I create a list I get a warning about how "some boards don't exist", so you may want to check the code for that feature and see if there's something wrong.
Mutli-board thing doesn't seem to work properly in TBB, but maybe it's on my end. Regardless the feature is kind of pointless since you could already achieve it with a simple bookmark. What we need is the ability to see all boards except ones that we want filtered out.
Some updates have been pushed which should alleviate the issues from last night's patch. Functionality Multiboard Manager has a few more refinements under the hood that didn't make it into the last patch. Hotlink blocking is now less aggressive when you have a bypass ID. Fixes Multiboard Manager should no longer complain that boards don't exist when they do. Reply Hovering should no longer break after the first time. Thread hiding should now properly hide threads and their latest posts on the board index. Inline Replies should behave a little better. Let us know if there's additional problems.

(27.18 KB 202x234 '.png)

Posting images with ' or × in the filename alters the filename after page refresh. The × and ' character strings are still appearing on "live update" posts and on the catalog.
>>4969 A fix has been in the work and I pushed it tonight. Give it some time to clear caches. There were some tweaks to both the backend and frontend to close some niche XSS attack vectors and it had some side effects for how HTML is rendered; please report any other places where this occurs and we'll fix it if we can. An issue with editing board rules was also patched.
(39.16 KB 252x294 03-01-2022_102203.png)

>>4979 Still seeing ' on catalog. Shows up as an actual apostrophe while refreshing the page, but changes to ' when refresh is completed. Cleared cookies, same behavior.
>>4996 Same in json https://8chan.moe/b/1.json >boardDescription: "It isn't "free" speech if it's only the speech you like." Its double escape or something... Shouldn't be that way.

>>4979 >An issue with editing board rules was also patched. There is also an issue with changing which file extensions are allowed. Putting in the list of extensions seems to work at first (the list is saved even on refresh), but closing the management window and reopening it after will only show the first extension in the list you added. Even that extension becomes blocked from posting though, even if it is shown, along with all other media-- Is it that board owners can't selectively choose which types are allowed on the board or not?
>>5012 I think the file type list can only produce a more restrictive list than the global version, so the purpose of that list is more to restrict to specific filetypes than to expand. If you want a filetype added to the global list of acceptable types, you can request it and I can look into enabling it. Also, I haven't tested it, but I think you need to pass file MIMEs and not just extensions to that list. Should probably verify that and clarify it on the management page.

>>5020 MIME didn't work for me either. I've tried both lists and all it does is "save" the first on the list, but all media is blocked when trying to make a list, including the first one despite it being saved-- >txt,jpeg,jpg,bmp,gif,png,ogg,webm,mp4,webp,mp3 >text/plain,image/jpeg,image/bmp,image/gif,image/png,audio/ogg,video/ogg,audio/webm,video/webm,video/mp4,image/webp,audio/mpeg > can only produce a more restrictive list than the global version That's fine. I just wanted to remove .zip and .pdf. I don't know what other weird extensions the site allows because the ones listed on the post page are not updated (for example, it doesn't show .zip on that list yet they can still be posted)--

The watched threads box can still go outside the viewport. The scrollbar for it only appears when you adjust the size of the box, but you can't adjust the size of the box if it's outside the viewport. The size of the watched threads list also doesn't persist through refreshes.

>>5122 I fixed this locally with CSS: .moeText { word-wrap: break-word; } .hljs-attribute{ word-wrap: break-word; } It works for the moe text which now seems to force a word-wrap, but it won't work with code text running off the edge? That's what I see when I inspect the code text "hljs-attribute" but I tried .codeText too. Not sure what's the right code to change the code text?
>>5184 I'll give it a test. Have to make sure it doesn't break any other combinations. If it works, I'll include it in 2.8.

Are you mining cryptocurrency or something?
>>5242 no a known pedophile (brandon robert kelly) is spamming /b/ with cp right now so validation automatically turned on
>>5242 The block bypass has a proof of work mode that is enabled in times of spam. Which is technically similar to how cryptocurrencies work. But the purpose is to prevent spammers and it's only enabled when the site is being attacked. So the high CPU usage is because of that.
>>5242 It works similarly, but doesn't actually generate a currency. There's no blockchain involved. All the code involved is open source, so you're free to check it out if you don't trust it. It's not always on, just when we expect spam.
Can't upload anything. Progress goes to 100%, stays there for a while, and then the site says "connection failed".
>>5342 Networking issues out of our control. There's some severe packet loss between the server and most users. May be related to war in Ukraine.

Is the preferred language option working? already put the spanish option but the language of my board still doesn't change.
>>5385 That primarily affects messages from the backend, so (most) error messages and post dates should be converted. We're working on adjustments to the frontend that will allow other text to be automatically translated. Hopefully that will be ready soon.
>>5246 >>5248 Can you explain why my performance will randomly tank for no good reason when I have a tab of this site open which miraculously disappears and never happens again the moment I open the task manager to see whats going on? Along with the fact there's been no effort to fund the site through donations or ads in the entire 2 years its been running leads me to believe money is being made from it some other way.
>>5395 Can't say I've ever experienced consistent performance issues while running the site. At least not these days. I used to have constant memory leak problems with imageboards but I fixed that by putting my swap file onto an SSD instead of an HDD. I'm pretty sure Acid runs (owns?) a firearm store and Codexx is a full time programmer. I doubt the money they could harvest from some shitty browser based crypto miner would even make a dent compared to their yearly salaries. I think the most logical conclusion is that between the two of them the cost of the site just isn't a significant financial hit.
