I grew up in the 80s and watched those cartoons as a kid. I tried watching some of them recently, and they are completely unwatchable. As a general rule, 80s kids cartoons suck utterly. Surprisingly, the girls' cartoons aged better, but even they were bad. Occasionally, there were some gems mixed into the slop. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has aged better than others, which is a bit surprising given how rooted in the 80s the characters were. It does the action anime thing better than The Transformers did. He-Man is campy enough to be good for a laugh, and the setting was unique if silly. The Smurfs had the occasional moment of genuine witty humor. Thundercats had a neat style to it. The original My Little Pony was surprisingly metal in the early-80s sense. It reminds me of another 80s cartoon--Heavy Metal.
Speaking of which, the 80s cartoons for adults were often spectacular. Heavy Metal was dark, edgy, and brutal as befitting a film with that title. It also gave us Taarna. The Last Unicorn, The Secret of Nimh, and Watership Down were vicious and made no bones about trying to upset and disturb their audiences, which is strangely refreshing from the perspective of this boring-ass era.
Oh shit, Watership Down was from the 70s. It sure felt 80s.

Jem could work as a modern kids show. It's practically already that idol shit that the Japs and Koreans love. It's no surprise that Hasbro has no idea how to use their own properties.

Hasbo loves to take unique worlds and radical ideas and just piss them down their legs. The whole company is run by the marketing department, and it shows.
