80's Cartoons Anonymous 09/05/2020 (Sat) 03:43:30 No. 4807
What are you anons currently watching? I've been re-watching The Transformers, TMNT and The Real Ghostbusters.
>>30718 This is why it was a plot point in Beast Wars that Transformers went through an era where they all became smaller, to save energy. Because obviously a gorilla isn't the same size as a truck.
>>30717 It literally doesn't work in the Bayformers timeline so it was always a reboot to begin with.
>>30720 Nothing after Dark of the Moon works in the timeline. Age of Extinction introduces the dinobots and "Transformium" (The latter never seem again), establishing they're extremely important to Transformers existing, and that Transformers were made by a creator instead of the Allspark. Then The Last Knight throws things for an even bigger loop establishing that Transformers have been deliberately fapping about with Earth's history since the Fall of the Roman Empire (Which contradicts everything from the previous films), that there's a secret society of Templars working with the Transformers (That, at some point, initiated Sam despite him not knowing anything about his grandpas ramblings beyond being just that), and bringing Cybertron into Earth's orbit (Despite being destroyed in DotM, and managing to cause zero gravitational disturbances). I know the cartoons weren't exactly keeping things straight when it came to their time travel scenarios and origin stories, but at least there was some leeway where nothing directly contradicted itself.
>>30722 >It was a cartoon to sell toys <Its now movies to sell toys
>>30722 >I know the cartoons weren't exactly keeping things straight when it came to their time travel scenarios and origin stories, but at least there was some leeway where nothing directly contradicted itself. The original cartoon has tons of blatant contradictions, even if you discount things like animation errors. For example, the constructicons are given multiple different origin stories. There was no leeway, and it was a much more blatant contradiction than anything you described about the movies. The comics and Beast Wars were legit, though.
>>30724 >For example, the constructicons are given multiple different origin stories. Their origin, that I remember, was that they were original Autobots, until they experienced Megatron's brainwashing and became evil. But, that's only from watching G1, haven't progressed in Headmasters or later.
>>30722 Well yeah. They just made it up as they went along. It's why every movie the character designs changed & new characters were added with no explanation. Well bad on the fly writing AND the want to sell toys. Anyway, it's pretty blatant Bumblebee & TRoTB is doing it's own thing. I just hope they don't try to tie it into the Bayverse by saying the Maximals come from the future of that timeline where Unicron awakened.

>>30714 https://archive.ph/KzUnD >In terms of how the seventh installment will elevate the franchise, Ramos feels the new characters, especially with Black and Brown people in leading roles, will play a factor.
Transformers G1 is just loved by people that grew up in the 80s. Nerds of a certain age are obsessed with it
>>30798 Can't have just simple fun entertainment anymore.
(119.03 KB 1024x768 Optimus Crime.jpg)

>>30798 >calling Optimus Primal a nigger just because he's a gorilla
>>30798 Having a film with no human characters would greatly elevate franchise.
>>30824 >black and brown >no human characters Congrats. You're getting what you wanted.
>>30825 If I wanted to see a film about animals and advanced technology I'd watch Wakanda Fornever. But jokes and quips aside, the human-transformer relationship gets old fast. Which is why I can't bring myself to endure the first Bayfomer film. As the human characters start to make the whole thing campy.
>>30826 It's why Beast Wars is the best Transformers series. No humans. Those "Proto-Human" little monkey men were 1) funny little monkey men, and 2) only in a couple of episodes anyway.
Are there any GOOD /co/ related films coming out? I'm tired of talking about shitty ones.
>>30881 >sunglasses >no light up ear muffs IT'S SHIT
>>30883 They're not sunglasses. They're NERD glasses.

Jem has as much chance of coming back as /pol/ has of being right. Even Hasbro has conceded & moved on. >officially licensed product
>>38154 So you're saying Jem's coming back then?

Studio Trigger did an animated tribute video for Transformers 40th anniversary. Files too big so have a catbox link unless someone wants to post it smaller. It's just chocked full of detail. https://files.catbox.moe/c2stjv.mp4
>>38154 >Even Hasbro has conceded & moved on. Too little too late. Hasbro really dropped the ball when it came to gen4.

I grew up in the 80s and watched those cartoons as a kid. I tried watching some of them recently, and they are completely unwatchable. As a general rule, 80s kids cartoons suck utterly. Surprisingly, the girls' cartoons aged better, but even they were bad. Occasionally, there were some gems mixed into the slop. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has aged better than others, which is a bit surprising given how rooted in the 80s the characters were. It does the action anime thing better than The Transformers did. He-Man is campy enough to be good for a laugh, and the setting was unique if silly. The Smurfs had the occasional moment of genuine witty humor. Thundercats had a neat style to it. The original My Little Pony was surprisingly metal in the early-80s sense. It reminds me of another 80s cartoon--Heavy Metal. Speaking of which, the 80s cartoons for adults were often spectacular. Heavy Metal was dark, edgy, and brutal as befitting a film with that title. It also gave us Taarna. The Last Unicorn, The Secret of Nimh, and Watership Down were vicious and made no bones about trying to upset and disturb their audiences, which is strangely refreshing from the perspective of this boring-ass era. Oh shit, Watership Down was from the 70s. It sure felt 80s. >>38154 Jem could work as a modern kids show. It's practically already that idol shit that the Japs and Koreans love. It's no surprise that Hasbro has no idea how to use their own properties. >>41212 Hasbo loves to take unique worlds and radical ideas and just piss them down their legs. The whole company is run by the marketing department, and it shows.
>>41235 Hasbro is a toy company. They don't care about the stories and characters. They include them begrudgingly. They would much prefer to have a whole new cast of Transformers every year, or every episode, so that kids would have to buy more toys to get all the characters they like from the show. You're lucky that Jem didn't join the 27 club at the end of Season 2 and get replaced with a new singer. She probably would have if the backlash against the death of Optimus Prime wasn't so significant.
>>41238 >Hasbro is a toy company. They don't care about the stories and characters. Which is a crying shame, because they have had some gems lel dropped in their laps. They could have made bank on the intellectual properties if they had bothered to develop them instead of relying on the toy department for its profits.
>>41246 They make bank anyway. How many Transformers movies do we have now?
>>41253 And so they will never change. God, I wish that entertainment creators would be compensated according to how good the products that they create are instead of according to how they leverage intellectual properties for profit.
>>41254 That's what "good" means. It's the only objective means of measurement. If you want to reward people based on how good you personally think something is, then get rich and become a patron. That's how it used to work.
>>41255 Why should we need objectivity when determining the worth of entertainment, a thing which is inherently subjective?
In retrospect, I & the world were too harsh on Transformers One. It's actually a decent movie that's surprisingly serious. It's just Key B that's incredibly annoying through the whole thing in a not even funny way. Had he at least had a better younger voice then maybe he'd be more endearing instead. I also think the black guy voicing D-16 doesn't have a tough growly enough voice to do it. Especially when he truly becomes Megatron. The trailer's really didn't do this movie any favors by front loading them with the terrible comedy instead of the action with 80s rock music. It's kinda too late to save it at this point but with nothing else good to watch, fuck Wild Robot, maybe people should give it a chance.

It's kinda too late to save it at this point but with nothing else good to watch, fuck Wild Robot, maybe people should give it a chance. To be honest, I've just checked out of having any interest in Transformers (Like much of the rest of modern media) due to them shoving Queer theory into the comics and shows. If they legitmately did make a good movie, I don't care because of how they're doing everything possible to antagonize people over the past several years, and then wondering why companies cannot release a successful movie even if their future depends on it.

>>41485 That is also likely a factor to why people didn't care. Burnout from Bayformers then the reboot universe with Bumblebee dropping the ball just as bad in it's sequel. Plus like you said everything with IDW & Earthspark turning the series into a soapbox for gender identity bullshit. Paramount producer Lorenzo is also not helping by continuing to say contradictory shit about how Bumblebee first & now TF One were/are part of the Bayformers continuity. Even though it's impossible logically in every way. But that kind of thing just makes people confused & avoid it all further.
