Also remember that 9/11 wasn't the first terrorist attack on the Twin Towers. They tried to collapse them before by blowing up trucks in the parking garage, which failed. Obviously it wasn't as impressive event as 9/11, but it did scare enough people to the point where we were forced to do terrorism emergency drills at my school for all of about one year and then they never bothered again. So it's not like there wasn't already this concept of terrorists attacking the Skyscrapers, the Twin Towers in particular, in the popular media well before the event. I also remember having to do Nuclear Strike drills in elementary, but it was just a basic tornado drill - and the teachers did not give a single fuck. They were just checking boxes mandated by the state. We were too far out in the country to be a realistic target, and even if we weren't, you're talking MIRVs on ICBMs - not assholes dropping bombs from a plane. You couldn't fool yourself into thinking you'd survive by ducking and covering. All you could do is duck down and kissing your ass goodbye, so there was hardly a point in any of it.
