/co/ Christmas card 2022 Anonymous 12/11/2022 (Sun) 19:59:08 No. 30868
It is once again time for our oldest /co/ tradition, spanning back over half a decade! We're making a Christmas card! Submit (preferably) backgroundless images of /co/ characters referencing big comic and/or cartoon events of the past year. We mash 'em all up in a big collage and send out the result to boards we like on Christmas Day. Suggestions for characters and boards to send to are welcome!

>>30868 Well Kevin Conroy in memoriam is a given. Don't have a transparent png on hand but Spear's daughter should be there. Although I did find this one for Wednesday. It'd be her appropriate reaction to so much mirth & whimsical cheer.

>>30868 God, you could have a giant trash skip off to the side for what's been bad this year. Raaya, Turning Red, Lightyear. All flops. Dragon Prince was also pretty bad, so much so I gave up on it. There's a few RIP threads you can picture frame and light a candle for. Wolfwalkers, F is for Family and Villanos were all last year. The Adult swim movies will probably be next year. Who could I include though? The books for Villainous did come out this year, they might make a decent present under the tree if you put a bow on them. The manual for instance would be a great present. What about the tiger mom from Turning Red though? She was made out to be the villain and instead she just wanted to protect her kid from grooming. Hah. I was looking for a decent picture of her as a giant panda but found this southpark like picture, she is Canadian afterall.
>>30868 I say we have a latino theme card to celebrate the coming of our cousin board /ac/.
>>30874 Raaya was last year & Wolfwalkers was 2020. Turning Red & Lightyear in the trash pile discount bin would be a good idea though.
>>30868 Someone needs to make a master list of all those who died this year. Shits too many to count.
>>30875 >>30877 Found a couple contenders for the background.
>>30877 Quick scan on the threads for head shots. Derrick J. Wyatt (This was technically 27/12/2021 but he isn't in the 2021 card and it's close enough that'd I'd put it in). >>21583 George Perez >>25861 Peter Robbins >>22565 Neal Adams >>25608 Kevin Conroy >>30372 Jason David Frank >>30556 Cartoon Network Studios >>29699 Carlos Pacheco >>30363 Jules Bass >> 30030
>>30878 I like the first one for striking a nice balance between "Mexico" and Christmas elements, but unless we wanna put a lot of people on cacti, I worry there won't be enough room to stand. The second pic by contrast doesn't appear Christmassy enough to me, but it does have a lot of open space. All these pics are also somewhat small to work on, something wallpaper-sized would work better during production. >>30879 Damn, that's a lot of people dead in their sixties. Why do they all go so young?
>>30886 I mean you could always add more decorations/trees to it.
Suggestions for shows and animated movies to add characters from to the card: Cuphead Smiling Friends The Bad Guys? Chip 'n Dale Pinocchio (Del Toro's) Knuckles from the Sonic 2 movie? Or is that too /v/? Hotel Transylvania 4? the Beavis and Butthead movie The Simpsons from that anime-style Death Note parody As well as Turning Red and Lightyear mentioned here >>30874 ...Boy, it's really been a crap year for western animation. Anybody got suggestions for the comic book side of things? I'll be looking for pics of characters from the above to add, but feel free to offer your own if you find any.
(62.48 KB 720x1356 image82543.png)

have a fucking christmas card.
I completely forgot! We gotta put Morbius there somewhere. Maybe as a jar of ashes labeled "Jared Leto's Career".
>>30878 >>30886 Found some more, hopefully these are big enough.
>>30916 I like the crowd pick, especially when there's so many dead this year.
>>30879 Should we also count all the shows that got canceled too, especially after the Discovery merge massacre?
>>30918 I see why not.
>>30918 Shows? Pretty sure all the shows removed already finished their stories. Infinity Train is debatable. Now the cancelled movies like Batgirl, Wondy 3, & Man of Steel 2 are fair game. Put em in the literal dead on arrival pile.
>>30922 Okay how about the tax write off shows instead, like Mao Mao. Or just photoshop in a dumpster labeled "abortions" that's filled with all the shows that never saw the light of day.
>>30923 Something like Mao Mao, if it didn't get put back up on another streaming site or another, would go in the tax vault. Or the freezer.
>>30924 And forgotten by the network megas xlr style.
>>30932 No Megas was a tax writeoff too.
>>30933 So is mao mao.
>>30934 Y-yeah... That's the point of the tax freezer.
Sorry for the silence, last weekend before Christmas is always a little hectic. I was able to find decent-ish renders for eveything mentioned in >>30901 except My Father's Dragon. There's a couple where I have to remove the background first, however. >>30916 The last pic with the cacti is probably best. It's big enough and has tons of open space so we can easily adjust the composition if it's necessary. All in favor for using that? And if someone could look for good shots of our departed in >>30879 that'd help too.
(40.10 KB 417x598 Mei_Lee.png)

>>30966 >>30967 Buzz & Mei Mei should go in the coal pile. Also Yes the cactus image at the end would be best if anyone would wanna do the Mexico theme.
>>30875 >>30886 They are also making a card over there, you can come and give them some suggestions >>13498
Sorry I'm dumb as fuck I forgot how to crosspost >>>/ac/13498
>>30969 Lets stick to our side first.
>>30972 So far no one's even made the effort to make a wip card.
>>30975 Not the OP, but I've been cutting out images of the people who died this year. I'll have them ready tonight or tomorrow. I wish I was more involved but my main computer with PS is on the fritz so im on a laptop running GIMP.
>>30976 Hey as long as someone's making the effort. More power to you. I don't really know much about making good pngs beyond the magic wand tool in paint dot net.
>>30977 Im the guy that typically makes those batshit autistic cards with everything in it. But this year the PC isnt up to speed so Im stuck with GIMP a program I barely know how to use.
>>30978 Can it run Krita? That's supposed to be the best free digital art program.

>>30982 If we're going with the cactus image, I'd litter the sky with stars and make the deceased transparent kinda like this. Also add Homer in the background looking up too.
(431.72 KB 1100x1664 il_fullxfull.1805291548_2dvx.jpg)

>>30984 It's sort of like the Chuck Jones tribute painting.
Can someone make a complete list of all the shows that should be included.
I watched the new Scrooge movie on Netflix & actually really liked it. So if anyone would be kind enough to make a cutout png of the characters here for the card, I'd really really appreciate it.

(121.11 KB 567x860 Charlie.png)

(116.38 KB 804x978 Glep.png)

>>30994 Smiling friends should be included. Here is Pim, Charlie, and Glep. I could not find transparent Alan nor a good image to crop him out of yet. I've been meaning to watch Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 but I don't think I will be able to before Christmas. There could be something good there too. Were Kid Cosmic and Young Justice any good? I have also heard good things about Vox Machina cartoon from my normalfag coworkers but it is tied to critical role...
>>30994 >>30997 This post is a good starting point >>30901
>>30997 Kid Cosmic's pretty great. Seriously underrated. Young Justice REALLLY dropped the ball in season 3 then doubled down on season 4. Beast Boy's severely depressed, Zod is now black, Aqualad is gay, Lagoon Boy is in a bisexual polyamorous relationship, nonbinary martians, & making of a mockery of The Killing Joke by making Barbara a cripple on accident. Vox Machina is pretty much tumblr the fantasy show.
plz put him in
>>31002 Who?
>>31002 How is this on-topic?
>>31009 Because it hasn't pissed off Frank. Give it a minute. It will.
Here >>>/ac/14428 I made a /co/rnad using a SP character creator, you might find it useful.
>>31014 It's weird South Park hasn't done anything since July.
>>31014 Wrong color, we're green not blue.
(64.13 KB 800x800 SP-Studio (6).png)

>>31017 You right, there you go, fixed colors.
(191.66 KB 800x800 Alan_800p.png)

>>30997 A quick crop of Alan. Just on the off change that we need more characters >>31000 Good to hear about Kid Cosmic but shame about the others
>>31026 It comes with the territory.
>>31012 Its a joke bro. Merry Christmas.
It's almost Christmas eve. So is anyone actually making the card?
>>30976 Are you still around anon? >>30978 >>30981 Have you tried paint.net?
>>31050 Yeah, im still here. Been waiting if the other anon was going to put together the card considering my handicap. If not im going to pull an all nighter and finish it by the 24th.
Work kept me busy due to being understaffed (not unusual for the holidays), but I have today off. We got today and tomorrow, and a background and the assets are gathered, so it should just be a matter of putting them together now. We'll get there. I'll have a mockup later today. Many thanks to all the other anons who gathered up characters to use, particularly This Guy >>30981 >>30982 for digging up all the dead guys to remember.
Last two days, if you have anything you want to see on the card, post them now.
>>31060 I'd say add a pile of coal for all the shitty stuff like Lightyear, Turning Red, Wendell & Wild, & Morbius. Could just put their posters there for the last two as it's not exactly easy to find good pngs for either. The new Puss in Boots sequel also just came out but I'm not seeing it till later today so I have no idea if it's as good as reviews are saying.
Okay, I have a mockup ready, but first let me dump some more cutouts in case anyone else wants to try their hand at it.
>>30984 To this anon: on the one hand, screw you for suggesting this, it took a lot of time to make this work. On the other hand, thanks for the suggestion, great idea, because holy shit this looks gorgeous.
And finally, the promised mockup. Biggest issue are obviously the ghosts, I can't figure out how to make them uniformly the same color and transparency despite the doing the exact same thing with all of them. I would really appreciate help with this from someone more experience in shooping. Aside from that we just need a Feliz Navidad 2022 to slap on the upper right, and maybe give the people some Christmas hats. That will be doable for tomorrow.
>>31073 Things could be made smaller and spaced out, plus you forgot the board tans too. For the dead in the sky feather the edges so it blends a little better.
>>31073 Yeah you didn't take advantage of the space & placement at all & forgot the board tans.
>>31082 Mao Mao & Infinity Train weren't like killed off mid way. Just taken off HBO Max.
>>31083 And nearly all forms of regular distribution.
>>31073 Needs more 9/11 references.
>>31084 I don't know if they even had blu-rays.
>>31073 Throw a Red Anon somewhere in there.
>>31073 To represent /ac/ throw in Hilda and put in a Vivian for good measure. Here's a burning dumpster png if someone wants to get creative with it, and some more hats.
(221.98 KB 512x512 Feliz-Navidad-PNG-Clipart.png)

>>31098 I also think this would be appropriate for this year. Just don't forget the "2022" and "from /co/" part.
>>31098 >>31099 Maybe /ac/ should just have their own card instead of poorly having to fit it's aesthetics to our own. OP's original picture choice was good already.
>>31100 Alright just add Hilda then, because its a cute picture.
>>31101 Shouldn't because Hilda's last thing was the movie that came out in 2021. Nothing for this year.
>>31102 She's essentially /ac/'s quasi board-tan
>>31105 Again, they can do their own thing. Our card should be our card.
I shrunk everyone down, but hopefully not so much that legibility would be an issue, and added some characters as well as the Feliz Navidad. Still gotta feather the ghosts, add the rest of the text, and add some decorations to the cactus (and hats) but that can wait until we're agreed on the composition. >>31080 >>31081 I put in the little South Park /co/nrad from >>31023 , figured it would save space and we wouldn't be reusing one of our two stock images again. But if you guys prefer the whole gang I can oblige. >>31098 I'm siding with the naysayers on this one. Using a Mexico theme is enough. No Vivian or anon either, let's keep it /co/. There's an empty spot between Lisa and Knuckles/Alan where I could still add someone I move Drac and Johnny a bit, if someone has a suggestion left. Remember they should reference something /co/-related of the past year.
>>31111 But OP, we're all Anons.
>>31111 The negative filter you added to the dead is a bit much, just give them a darken overlay and reduce the opacity.
>>31111 It's still kind of a mess that has no reason to not be uniquely it's own instead of doubling as an /ac/ card.
>>31116 The past Christmas cards (at least from the other editfag) always reflected some current events regarding the site as a whole. After all /co/ is one of the few remaining original boards still around, after all that's happened.
>>31117 That's just an excuse to make really cluttered cards.
>>31118 They got soul and tells a story.
>>31120 We're not weaving an ancient tapestry. Still one anon's made his card. I say if another makes one then it should be more strictly for this board rather than the site.
>>31121 >We're not weaving an ancient tapestry You say that now.
Now we wait for the final card.
Hi all. Quick update: I unfortunately fell asleep yesterday in front of my computer and by the time I woke up it was time for festivities with the family, so I wasn't able to work on the card much more and now we're gonna be running late. I fucked it up, my bad. Anyway, there's still a couple hours left and we've all eaten so everyone's just kinda doing their thing until dinner, meaning I got a bit of time to add the balls and hats finally. I'll submit it once it's done and we'll be able to send it out before day's end so it still counts. Sorry again. On that note, best start working on a list of boards to send it to. So far I got /v/, /b/, /tg/, /toy/, /ac/, /christian/ and /christmas/.
>>31155 Okay, I think it can get sent out.
>>31158 Looks good.
>>31158 It looks neat, thanks for putting it together.
The card was sent out. >>>/b/433961 >>>/christian/212 >>>/ac/13498 I noticed someone else also uploaded it to /v/ twice before I could get around to it. >>>/v/757953 >>>/v/757954 And some addresses out on the wider webring: https://smuglo.li/tg/res/52142.html#53973 https://smuglo.li/monster/res/165306.html#166572 https://anon.cafe/toy/res/582.html#860 https://anon.cafe/christmas/res/2421.html#2923 https://zzzchan.xyz/v/thread/179899.html#181536 It was close, but we had another successful year. Thanks to everyone who contributed! I'll try to remember to start earlier next year... and to learn how to blur.
>>31158 Best we got then.
merry christmas all!!
