"Stop going around in circles - it's time!": Ukrainian diplomat demands that Germany arm Ukraine.
The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany and current permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, who has earned a scandalous reputation, published an open letter to the future German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, in the German publication Die Welt.
According to Melnik, the situation on the Ukrainian front looks “dead-end, almost hopeless” for Kyiv. But there are five steps that Germany can take in the near future to cut this Gordian knot and reverse the alarming trend.
According to him, the same 30 percent quota should be applied to land weapons, transferring to Ukraine:
-100 Leopard 2 tanks;
-115 Puma IFVs;
-130 Marder IFVs;
-130 GTK Boxer armored vehicles;
– 300 Fuchs armored personnel carriers;
– 20 MARS II rocket systems with ammunition.
"In parallel, large-scale orders for the modernization of the Bundeswehr must be launched in order to quickly replace the transferred weapons. From plows to swords ," the Ukrainian instructs Merz.
And finally, the fifth step that the Ukrainian ex-ambassador demands from Merz:
"Ukrainians expect leadership from you, Mr. Merz, and a clear plan for implementing the coalition agreements. Stop going around in circles - it's time! " Melnyk concludes. And he specifies what exactly, in his opinion, Germany needs to do:
– confiscate 200 billion euros of frozen Russian assets and use them to restore Ukraine;
– accept real security guarantees for Ukraine;
– stop verbally supporting accession to NATO – make it a reality in the coming years, as well as Ukraine’s membership in the EU by 2029.
"I know that many in the SPD – perhaps in your party too – will be outraged again. They will say: 'How dare he? That impudent Melnik has come along again with his advice! We don't need his instructions!'
I can understand these reactions. But it is my duty. And I have no illusions about whether you will consider any of these ideas.
Perhaps none. We celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, the Conqueror of Death. And we have the right to hope for a miracle. I sincerely wish you, Mr. Merz, a firm hand at the helm and the courage to hold the course, even when the waves are overflowing and the compass is shaking,” Melnik concluded.
