I'm currently working on a Traveller campaign. I'm currently working on writing the fine details for the Beltstrike campaign book. Setting is Pre-FTL and not in the Traveller OTU setting.
My hope is that if my PCs like it, that for the next game I will roll the clock forward 50-100 years into the future and pick the setting up from there. Either that or I'll shift over and run Pirates of Drinax.
Anyway here are some of my notes and my current WIP intro for the campaign:
The year is 2231. It has been 30 years since the Calamity Wars and the consolidation of power by Asrofalk Murghen-Chaeseyn, GREAT LEADER and High Executor of the Sonares government. While the people of Sonares are still dusting themselves off and rebuilding from the last conflict. They see that a new era is dawned and the inhabitants of the Sonares system are eager to strike forth into a new tomorrow. Many powers exert their influence in the Sonares system and vie for control of this future, both old and new.
One such force are the newly risen Industrial houses. Giant conglomerations of many smaller corporations and entities under the leader ship of a newly landed psuedo-nobility. They hold vast sway over the Sonares economy and possess many holding of former nation states. Many are considered nations in and of themselves.
Of the Industrial Houses, Mass Industries stands strong. A leader in space mining and manufacturing. Hardly anything in space gets built without their involvement in some fashion. Nearly all of the active space ships flying in the Sonares system were built in a Mass shipyard.
Standing on the other side of the scale is The main legislative body of the Sonares system, The World Assembly. A hold over from the last era where nation states reigned supreme. It is now where the remaining National Powers debate with and against the newly risen industrial houses and set system policy to guide Sonares into the future.
Holding this tenuous alliance together by his Charisma and political guile alone is the High Executor, Asrofalk Murghen-Chaesyn, or GREAT LEADER as he is refered to by some in a more disparaging manner. He has final say on any policy the World Assembly places forth. Commander of the armed forces of Sonares and high enforcer of the law. It was he who is seen as having ended the Calamity Wars and brought the bickering Nation states and Corporate Houses to heel at the barrel of a gun and reformed the World Assembly to what it is today.
While the Sonares system may seem stable form the outside. The internal situation can be quite tense at times. With a great many waiting in the shadows, biding their time to seize power and the future of Sonares for themselves.
Turning to space, our game takes place out in the void. Specifically, out in the Ateroid belt of the Sonores system.
As a concequence of the actions of Mass during the Calamity Wars. Asrofalk heavily restricted the power of Mass Industries, by barring them from exploiting wide swathes of the belt and removing key assets from their control. He placed those assets under stewardship of the World Assembly. From this were created the Free Radicals, a wide swath of the Sonares belt that was given to the people and nations of Sonares exploit to find their fortunes.
For many stations and colonies out in the black, it was a simple change of management. With new bosses taken the seat of the old. For others it was a new dawn, free to strike out and forge their own path within the Sonares system.
Within this vaccume emerge our PCs!!! Working for one of the many entities that call the Free Radicals home, the Lothran Free Company, a new and up and coming corporation with humble beginnings as asteroid survayors and cargo hauling. Whether they know it or not their actions in the coming months will shape the future of their employer and the system of Sonares in ways they themselves cannot envision.
