2024 in reflection Anonymous 01/01/2025 (Wed) 03:03:36 Id: 8e8ded No. 1056236 >>1056275 >>1056278 >>1056342
Well /v/ it's the last day of 2024 and for others it's 2025 already. I thought it be nice to reflect on what might've been a turning point in history, not only for gaming but the world in general. In 2024 we had notable games and DLC (for better or for worse) >Balatro coming out of nowhere and wowing people >Granblue Fantasy Relink finally coming out and being a good ARPG >Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth continuing the Yakuza series surprisingly great shift into turn based RPGs >Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a total failure and might've been the death warrant of Rocksteady >Unicorn Overlord which many consider to be Vanillaware's Magnum opus but mired with controversy over it's flowerily localisation which in turn brought back the heated discourse over localisation >Dragon's Dogma 2 finally came out to a mess of micro transactions, horrid optimisation issues, DEI and questionable design choices >Helldivers winning hearts by being a fun team TPS and breaking hearts with Sony and Arrowhead fucking things up Elden meme's DLC comes out to universal acclaim and sparks the conservation of how DLC should be made from now on >Earth Defense Force 6 need I even say more /v/? >Black Myth: Wukong despite the games media trying everything to shill against it breaks every record for player count on steam and beyond >Concord becomes the biggest disaster in gaming's history >Star Wars Outlaws is a total flop for Ubisoft and adds to the company's woes > Astro Bot a decent platformer that Sony paid to win the shill awards 2024 >40k Space Marines 2 won the hearts of 40k tards and gamers alike with the game just being an unapologetic 7th gen action TPS that kept to the lore of the series >FF 16 PC finally comes out of the Nogame5's prison but with mixed attention >Frostpunk 2 comes out and autism ensures >The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom >Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP comes out much to everyone's pleasure >The Forever Winter an early access grimdark survival horror TPS that surprisingly has potential to perhaps be a big grimdark franchise >Mouthwashing an indie game that awed people with it's real depiction of a narcissist who ruins the lives of anyone he interacts with >Starfield: Shattered Space comes out and no one gives an iota of a fuck >Silent Hill 2's (((remake))) >Metaphor: ReFantazio (one of the weirdest on this list) a game that went under the radar despite being Atlus game it has a lackluster localisation and feels rushed but most notably the game's nuanced approach to politics caused spergs on the right, left and centre to meltdown >Slay the Princess's The Pristine Cut DLC expanded the game to large degree >Dragon Age: The Failguard a game that is so hard into sjw gender politics and dumbed down the RPGs aspects of the game so hard that normalfags simply couldn't stomach it >Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered a pleasant surprise for Suda51 fans >Slitterhead a game that took gameplay elements from Gravity Rush/Daze and siren >S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl for better or for worse came out >Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which despite being an Indiana Jones game has gone under the radar with low player counts >Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered >MiSide a yandere indie game that unlike Yandere Sim actually came out and We had an interesting year for games /v/ but lets get to the fall of AAA studios and defeat/weakening of the left's hold on entertainment >Ubisoft's attack on the Japanese with AssCreed Shadows has utterly destroyed the company along with other bad choices due to incompetency or DEI brain rot Tencent will most likely buy them up >Sony's near billion dollar lost with Concord along with DEI/SJW or plan bad business choices ravaging it's studios has left it in fucking shambles to the point they bribed Doritos Pope to give their one non sjw game the award >Rocksteady is effectively a support studio due to Suicide Squad and WB might kill it off anytime >M$ pretty much gave up on the Xbox brand and their attempts to rebrand 343 into Halo studios failed due to still having the Halo hating sjws in charge >Bungie is falling apart and Marty O'Donnell is having a fucking blast watching it happen >ND's latest "masterpiece" by (((Cuckmann))) plot was leaked and it's even worse then expected >Suckerpunch killed the goodwill they built over the years by hiring a Japanese American whore brainwashed by retarded sjw gender politics as lead for the next Ghost game < Interestingly Jin's VA had a total sperg out over Orange man so bad that even normalfags mocked him >It has become mainstream to mock Sjweeb localisers to the point normalfags are pushing for AI to replace the cocksuckers >GW is trying to play both sjws and 40ktards with the female custodies >BioWare's failure with Failguard has shattered moral and lead to employees leaking shit out of spite >Rockstar has been infested with sjws which leads to GTA 6's future being uncertain >Journalists still are getting BTFO'd daily >Orange man winning again has caused every sjw in gaming and entertainment to not even get angry but just become genuinely depressed
[Expand Post] This was a year where normalfags simply couldn't fucking take it anymore and it shows /v/. They rejected the AAA trash, sjws and even elected Trump again all in 10 anniversary of Gamergate.
>>1056247 They'll never admit openly, but you can tell in how they've acted lately they know this for fact. >>1056253 2024 was the straw that broke the camel's back more then ever before, I also genuinely believe Trump's win is allowing more people to voice how they actually feel now. Because even PC gamer and more left leaning Jewtubers, admit they didn't like sjw games like Failguard.

The only nugame I played in 2024 and enjoyed was unicorn overlord. Gayming is so awful I don't even bother keeping up anymore

>>1056241 Why, can't wait to get your fucking ass kicked?
>>1056268 There's good stuff, but most of itis barely marketed
>>1056237 >>1056242 >>1056247 >>1056259 I don't think they care about being hated, but instead it's about losing power. Bullies losing any position from which they could abuse others upsets them. >>1056236 (OP) The only game I can even remember playing this year was Abiotic Factor.
(116.09 KB 920x430 yiikes.jpg)

In a surprise turn of events, the YIIK devs released a brand new rework of the game as a free update earlier this December on all platforms. It's actually good, far better than what I expected to be honest. All the crap bits like the combat, boring monologues, etc. have been swapped out. Game of the YIIK for sure. It's on GOG as well, so anons always whinging about Steam being DRM can pirate play it too.
>>1056236 (OP) >>Suckerpunch killed the goodwill they built over the years by hiring a Japanese American whore brainwashed by retarded sjw gender politics as lead for the next Ghost game From what I understand, SP has nothing to do with GoY. The game was developed by a completely different company, and even they were surprised by the announcement. >>1056277 >It's on GOG as well Okay, and? CD Projekt is still a pozzed company.
>>1056278 Anon Ghost of Yōtei is being made by SP and has the same directors as GoT.
>>1056282 > and has the same directors as GoT Then I stand corrected.
The only "2024 release" game I played this year was DOOM + DOOM II
>>1056287 Modern games can never reach this level of comfy

>only release I had fun with this year is Atlyss >otherwise I just played old games, especially the Half-life series >Only release I'm excited for this year is the hypothetical full release of Onirism Happy new year, fellas.

>>1056287 Same settis tbh
>>1056277 Yiik is the only 2024 release I played this year, though I haven't had much time for vidya this December. A lot of my favorite series are becoming niggercattle fodder, with many of them hemorrhaging talent and getting hit with the Monkey's Paw, but weirdly enough, Yiik being a densely woven unapproachable niche cheered me up a little.

>>1056236 (OP) I really liked FF16 and Space Marine 2, both of which were probably tied for my GOTY. DD2 was also a lot of fun, but fell off after the first playthrough due to some questionable design decisions and terrible performance. I still think Itsuno is the GOAT, and we'll probably have to wait and see what he does with his new studio before judging if Dragon's Dogma 2 was a fluke or not. Crimson Desert also looks pretty solid as it looks like Dragon's Dogma but without the pawn system. That being said I am NOT looking forward to GTAVI dominating online discourse this year, as I think there will be a lot of shilling for that game around summer and fall 2025. Other than that there were a number of solid games released this year, mainly around September, although there were some outliers like Touhou ADiA, Slave Zero X, and Devil Blade Reboot which I also really enjoyed.
Unicorn overlord is still my GOTY.
>>1056363 It was most certainly up there, although it really needed a PC port. Seriously what the fuck is up Vanillaware's ass in regards to the platform?
>>1056365 They would've sold a million on steam alone.
>>1056363 The localisation is not good.
>>1056375 It's not, and it's crazy since SEGA doesn't seem to give a shit.
>>1056376 Unicorn overlord is amazing but fuck 8-4.
>>1056377 I thought Atlus translated it? They published it.
>>1056386 No 8-4 translated it.
(3.75 KB 256x240 8-4.png)

>>1056377 It's kind of tricky but I don't think it's that bad once you get the hang of it.
(52.15 KB 450x690 Haha de vinci.jpg)

>>1056394 Ok you got me pretty good.
>>1056377 Seriously, I hate that they're still getting work.
>>1056365 >Seriously what the fuck is up Vanillaware's ass in regards to the platform? Could be some weird Japanese pride thing where consoles are considered premium and PC is dumping ground for indies and porn games.
>>1056417 And yet it's on Xbox?
I thought 2024 was alright in terms of videogames if you didn't focus on whatever the western journalism community at large was trying to advertise >Unicorn Overlord >Earth Defense Force World Brothers 2 >Earth Defense Force 6 >Super Shaking Girl >Switch ports of Kingdom Come Deliverance, Ace Combat 7 and Yakuza Kiwami which were all previously thought to be impossible (technical matters for the first two, and Masayoshi Yokoyama originally against porting the RGG games on Nintendo) On games I have yet to play (only did the demos for some of them) but found promising >DoDonpachi Saidai Oujou >Romancing Saga 2 remake >Metal Slug Tactics >Bar Stella >Iwakura Aria >Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance (apparently it makes the OG release look like a beta release, with all the extra contents, from what I've heard) >Stray Children >Famicom Detective Club Emio The one game I've entirely dropped any interest was the Dragon Quest 3 remake because of script changes also present in Japanese (compared to the OG script), but there were red flags that gave enough warnings beforehand.
(20.20 MB 1440x1080 Felvidek.webm)

>>1056425 >>1056270 I want to start a thread on overlooked, self-published games, because something I noticed this year is with the death of share threads and Volafile and the lack of literacy in piracy from newer posters, more and more cool shit that deserves more discussion gets overtaken by publisher-backed titles in the imageboard zeitgeist. Example: Felvidek which I found on a deal aggregation website. Steam Next Fest can't consolidate everything and I miss when shit like Vagante and a Powerslave mod for GZDoom were being brought up here. >>1056417 >>1056371 >>1056365 Consoles were gravitated to because of piracy concerns, it's why CN and KR games are always-online. Some execs are stubborn to see that consoles are dying andv the PC-98 and MSX days are coming back.
>>1056417 The thing is PC gaming is big in Japan now and when I was there you had a lot of places advertising the Steamdeck and PC parts. >>1056420 That's the part that blows my mind is they wasted resources on a system that most people don't own just to avoid PC.
>>1056397 >I hate that they're still getting work. You know the reason at this point: translators who care cost too much. Leftists do it for pennies. Japs are apathetic to the gaijin plight.
>>1056569 So basically the same trajectory as western animation.
