Perfect Games Anonymous 06/25/2024 (Tue) 05:54:37 Id: 60379a No. 983419
Are there any games which you consider to be perfect vidya? Just pure distilled quality. Here are two games I consider to be near-perfect (they have their glitches and exploits like any other piece of software).
>>1026074 I replied to the wrong post, fixed. The item balance and game mechanics are great in ALttP. Your 20-item inventory, and the fact the Fighter's Sword is weak, encourages strategies beyond just spamming slash. Your arrows are twice as powerful, with long range, but limited to straight lines, with start-up lag. Bombs have medium range and can be thrown but have a bigger hit radius than arrows, and can hit multiple enemies. Your boomerang is weak, but stuns enemies long, comes out fast, and goes in numerous directions. The hammer is very strong, but with the least range, and keeps you in place longer. The ice rod immobilizes enemies and makes them throwable weapons. Bees fight for you but are weak. The Fire Rod is super powerful, but limited by magic. Throwing rocks, jars, and skulls trade time off course for Fire Rod attack power. The magic cape lets you escape battles for a limited time. The medallions have the biggest areas of effect but cost the most magic. Mario & Luigi has great game mechanics too, but you're comparing apples and oranges.
>>1026105 >fighter's sword is weak only at certain points.
>>1026109 The Fighter's Sword is always weak. The Master Sword's better, but you don't get the Master Sword until you beat Hyrule Castle part 1, the Secret Passage, the Eastern Palace, the Desert Palace, and the Tower of Hera. The mechanics of ALttP's swordplay are good too. The slash covers an arc, and can parry many attacks, even strong attacks like the spiked balls of the Ball-and-Chain Troopers. You can do spin attacks for a 360-degree attack radius, or hold your sword in front of you, which lets you defend and counter-attack oncoming enemies, but it immobilizes your direction, and does less to no damage. That's very useful against some enemies and bosses, like Moldorm in the Tower of Hera, who can't hit you off the battle platform when you do it. Poking walls in this state lets you know what is bombable, and this state has other benefits, like bringing the boomerang out faster.
>>1026114 You don't think the tempered and golden swords are strong? And the regular sword can largely carry you through until you get the master sword. The master sword is weak when you first go to the Dark World, but once you get the tempered sword (and later the golden sword) which doesn't take too long to get, its generally pretty smooth sailing from there.
>>1026117 Those are forms of the Master Sword. They're strong, but optional, and easy to miss, and people beat Ganon without them. I watch normal people play ALttP blind, who usually get neither, especially the Golden Sword, hidden well without walkthrough use. Gilding my sword was the last thing I got, on my 3rd or 4th run, back when ALttP came out, and only after I got the internet, and saw it mentioned online. Besides speed runners, sequence breakers, and ALttP veterans, people who do get them, don't get them until they're mostly done the game, so issues with them are endgame issues, and while ALttP's endgame is less balanced, you still upgrade some items through the game, like the boomerang to the magic boomerang, and the arrows to the silver arrows, and your magic meter, and the magic meter upgrade indirectly upgrades all items that consume magic. ALBW did do endgame better than ALttP, because of the Maiamais, which upgraded most of your weapons.
>>984677 Not a single person ever bought an Expansion Pak. Everyone got it from DK64
>>1024435 >I remember when a thread was made for the launch That was me >And it was absolutely ruined by some schizo proxyfagging and accusing everybody of being a samefag shill Pretty sure that was Luciano, I just didn't know it was the Brazilian faggot yet. Made the thread on /vg/ and some fun was had.
>>1026178 Luciano is so extreme he makes his own positions look retarded.
>>1026176 I didn't own DK64 and bought an Expansion Pak for MM. Maybe I'm in the minority though.
>>1026176 I didn't buy one either. Nor an n64.
>>983535 I beat these except Omori. Undertale, Mother 3, and EarthBound are similar, so if someone plays all three, and likes one, they usually like the rest. Celeste gets attacked since Matt Thorson, who became trans, turned Madeline trans too, but that's only at the end of difficult DLC, and the game mechanics are 10/10.
>>1026200 I just emulated, didn't need one.

>>1026074 This anon >>1026107 alr owned ur ass, but here's my version: >muh sword spaming Let's assume thats true (that it isn't). Ull be basically saying that alttp has no combat, but here's what u dont get dummy: Alttp ain't a combat game. Is a puzzle + exploration game. The two major parts of the gameplay are: 1. Work arround the puzzles on the mazzes to finsh them. 2. Explore the overwold. These 2 complent each other, since progressing on the mazzes is the only way to unlock more world to explore. Exploring in alttp is fun and rewarding, cz it gives you secret items like gold master sword, heart pieces, fire wand, bigger magic meter, etc. On top of that, the ambientation and narrative are in brillant. If you pay close attention, this is actually the darkest zelda second to mm, specially with all the plot surrounding the "golden power".
>>1026250 >LttP isn't a combat game Who invited the retards? Progression is literally gated by combat. Yes, it's gated by puzzles too, but nearly every single screen of LttP has enemies on it.
>>1026250 It's not just a combat game but combat's a part of the game.
>>1026256 >>1026364 >Progression is literally gated by combat 98% of the combat can be evaded. OR decived by playing more the puzzle-exploration side of the game, (that will grand you more health). Bosses are easy mostly too.
>>1026488 >just avoid most of the game's content and it's not a combat game Are you some kind of speedrunning tranny or something? Might as well just say LttP only has 2 minutes of gameplay because you can glitch the game to skip it.

>>1024430 Definitely a great contender. Go play it if you haven't, if you have some nostalgia for Majora's Mask fags.

>>1026496 I don't follow recent runs but when I did, LttP's top runner was a based white man preaching his self-improvement grind of healthy diet and exercise who hated trannies and exposed their cheating in games to the point he got swatted.
>>1026496 Nobody kills all enemies when playing alttp, they literally despawn when you get to the next screen
>>1027176 Killing enemies is fun, I did that when I played it as a kid. Only times where I didn't was after I got fast-travel and was going past places I already conquered.
>>1027180 The game accommodates both choices. I go offroad to kill enemies in my games when it's fun, even when they don't drop loot, but loot makes killing enemies better.
mass effect 1
>>1027356 As far as aesthetics go, especially the audio design, I agree. The retro-futurism and synth was fan-fucking-tastic.
>>1027384 As far as aesthetics go, what's your favorite store on the Citadel?
Portal Does one thing, does it well
>>983419 There are a lot more than many might think. I also think some games in retrospective are deserving of being seen as perfect now that we have modern consoles with big budget games that are so broken on launch day. Many of these games are making 90's and even early 00's games look like they aged like fine wine in comparison.

>>983419 +R is a pretty neat game even if you are total shitter at it, and even then its fun to learn. It's got my favorite character too. But it also has it's glaring flaws with it's balancing like: making a boss character known for being strong as shit and not really nerfing her in the newer "updates", as she can just rape your shit with fireballs that have fuckhuge hitboxes, that also explode, are invincible, and that she ALSO has no limit to how many she can have on screen. Other than that, i consider the game a true "anime" fighter. F.E.A.R. is also real damn great, with it only getting a "real" sequel: trepang 2. Textures look a little shit but even then the shader tech still holds up even today, but what sucks is that you obviously have to download some shit to get it running, with the upside you have to crack the game to apply a patch, meaning you can share it between friends so they can also play the game. The gameplay itself is pretty neat, with the most of the guns being equal in power and utility. A.I. is alright, with fettel's boys getting me good a few times.
>>1027525 Maybe, but after Portal 2 I never looked back.
>>1026105 How would you compare A Link Between Worlds to A Link to the Past in terms of game design?
>>983419 >Woman protagonist >Perfect game. How?
>>1030207 You wouldn't be staring at a dude for 10 hours.
>>1030207 >How? Silent protagonist with T&A for speedrunning the game.
>>1030207 >over 6 feet tall, blonde and sexy <not perfect I think you missed a turn, the fag thread is down the hall and to the left.
>>983419 Little Big Planet While it's not the best game ever made and the sequel is arguably a better game, this one is just the perfect amount of fun without having anything super annoying about it. Even the hardest levels in the game are reasonable. The only inherently bad thing about LBP is the amount of microtransactions.
>>983419 Subjectively the perfect games for myself were ones that hooked into me like an addiction which allowed for an immersive and invested experience. The handful that did this were: Arcade: Mr. Do!, Bubble Bobble, Gyruss were the most captivating and fun, but Galaga is the perfect arcade game I think. NES: Dragon Warrior/Quest 1 SNES: Chronotrigger PS1: RE1, Parasite Eve1, SaGa Frontier 1, Kings Field 2(1N.A.), PC: Diablo1, Morrowind, GTA Vice City PS2: King's Field AC, Unlimited Saga(!) PS3: Demons Souls Nothing since the above... I guess the main thing that draws me in is the sense of exploration, ambience, and having little clue of how to win or even play the game properly. There are lots of games I liked but these were the ones that were miles above the others. The PS1 era is still my favorite. >>1027356 ME1 came close but the dialogue and characters were largely turn off and this dread of rpgs being a substitute for lack of friends and not the journey and adventure itself. Having options to explore your sexuality before saving the universe was just really opening the door for something awful.
