MONSTER HUNTER THREAD: (Breath of the) Wilds Edition. Anonymous 10/29/2024 (Tue) 06:51:04 Id: 6c0959 No. 1032729 >>1032798 >>1032814 >>1032925
So the beta for MonHun Wilds is out and I've played it. It's OK. I'm not a hardcore Monster Hunter fan, I only played World and Rise up to the end of the story and didn't go for any post-game content, but this is way more casual-friendly than the previous entries. The camera now locks on to the monster instead of just centering on them for a split second. I could spam attacks with dual blades and interrupt at a moment's notice with the dodge roll, so I didn't have to pace my button presses. The wound feature is pretty cool. Basically you just attack one body part over and over until it glows red, then enter focus mode with L2 and press R1, and you do a super move on it. Focus mode lets you basically strafe and finely aim your attacks like it's a third-person shooter. The new support creature, the seikret, is cool. It automatically follows the monster's scent once you're on it so tracking the monster is now piss-easy. I only did the first hunt against the giant toad, I turned it off after that. There is another hunt you can do afterwards but I wanted to get back to the Romancing Saga 2 remake. Overall, I think I would play it. I expect hardcore MonHun fans will be pissed at how baby-mode it is now though. I'm nowhere near a seasoned veteran and I played it just like Dark Souls and that worked fine for me. YMMV.

>I only played World and Rise >but this is way more casual-friendly than the previous entries What a great sign this is :^). Enjoy your new fanbase because I am never touching anything Capcom related ever again.
>>1032746 You say that every thread, crapcom guy
>>1032747 I was deluded loser thinking Capcom had a change until DD2 came out, if you got your own bogeyman, that's your problem.
>>1032746 I did play some on PSP, 3DS, and Wii, but never to the point where I completed the story mode, which I did with World and Rise. I forgot to mention that.
>I could spam attacks with dual blades and interrupt at a moment's notice with the dodge roll >Focus mode lets you basically strafe and finely aim your attacks like it's a third-person shooter This is no longer Monster Hunter.
(7.84 MB 1280x720 Is that wojak.mp4)

>>1032729 (OP) >way more casual-friendly than the previous entries How? I played the MMO version and you literally had a big ball of green spite hand holding you to your destination.
>>1032748 >falling for dd2 after REmake3
I'm still annoyed they reduced the armor types down to two thanks to fags wanting to crossdress with their PC. That aside, there are a lot of QoL changes I'm hearing about that I wish old games had. So there is my one positive comment about the topic. >>1032729 (OP) >I only played World and Rise >still says the game is too easy compared to them That sounds awful. >It automatically follows the monster's scent once you're on it so tracking the monster is now piss-easy World already had the bugs that tracked for you, I take it this is similar in function? Aka find some tracks then the bugs tell you where to go? Or do you not even need the tracks anymore. On this topic, I just watched a video that showed it auto dodging attacks, and even picking up the player right after they took a bad hit to run away. I mean it looks cool, but this seems to be taking away any amount of difficulty. Then again, I can say that about a lot of what I am hearing about it.
>Monster Hunter is irrevocably fucked from constant pandering to casuals, and publishers would rather go bankrupt than reverse course on this >God Eater is dead since the devs no longer work with Bamco >Freedom Wars was an unfinished mess with horrific balancing problems and free to play, pay to win MMO elements in the crafting (though the upcoming remaster supposedly removes those elements) >every other attempt at a hunting game has been been a dumpster fire The hunting genre is in a pretty bad state at the moment when I think about it.
>>1032876 I thought MH Rise was alright, and Relink was pretty good but at the same time I'm not looking forward to wilds because it's just world 2 electric boogaloo for half the weapons in the worst ways. >Greatsword is quintupling down on TCS spam and the fast combo from rise is gone, thus killing elemental GS >Lance lost cool shit from Rise like shield bash combo and shield charge, seems to be going for a clunkier approach. >Charge Blade is doubling down on SAED spam and shitting on any kind of preference for blade+shield mode. >Insect glaive is losing the airborne part of the kit and going back to being a grounded twinblade. >Longsword is going to be even more of a nigger weapon with how they have to hoard weakpoints for optimal DPS, as if Longsword wasn't bad enough already. On the other hand there's a ton of cool changes too, like hunting horn keeping older gen song play but taking some from the rise toolkit, or gunlance being made into a completely new thing while keeping the fun of the old two playstyles but encouraging you to mix them more based on combo routing. Or LBG and HBG getting general all-rounder improvements. It almost feels like there's two teams working on the weapon balancing in the strangest way. I just hope this game doesn't devolve into siege fight spam because the siege fight gear invalidates all gear that came before it.

>>1032729 (OP) >Monster Hunter is irreparably fucked to the point that World and Rise babies are stating it's too easy Just put a kelbi stingshot in my mouth already. How has nobody made a proper legally distinct retread of classic monhun after the years of autistic shitflinging? AAA retards are one thing, but monhun autism is steeled by time and fury. Surely someone is out there making a proper hunting game. Like an indie studio or something. Right?
Oh, I forgot to mention that you now carry two sets of weapons at a time and can switch them when mounted on your baby bird. >>1032814 >World already had the bugs that tracked for you, I take it this is similar in function? You still get the tracking green fireflies, and they highlight interactive elements in the environment because the new muh realism makes everything blend in to the background, but the seikret will automatically follow the target monster unless you steer it away. >I just watched a video that showed it auto dodging attacks, and even picking up the player right after they took a bad hit to run away I never took a hit big enough for it to save me, even after going back and doing the optional harder hunt.
Be sure to fill out the beta survey and tell them >Denuvo makes it run like crap >complain about tranny shit in character creation
>>1032925 Best we got is Dauntless, but that got bought out by Epic games ages ago and became shit as they cranked up the jewery regarding the F2P crap. Most other monhun-likes are actually God-eater-likes.
I haven’t played the beta yet, but from what I’ve seen I really fear that the focus mode is going to ruin this game. The fact you can adjust your facing even mid-TCS and spin around to hit the monster is beyond retarded. I’ve also seen that you can turn 180 degrees when doing the spirit roundslash (you don’t even need focus mode for this, the move just lets you go wherever you aim with the left stick). I know that the ability to turn around on the spot was given to quite a few weapons in World and Rise, but being able to do this with ANY weapon during ANY move without having to activate a parry or enter a stance or anything just fundamentally removes the preemptive aiming and positioning aspect from the combat. On another note, they completely ruined the bow. The homing tracer is so fucking broken there is no way they keep it like that on launch (right?). If you manage the tracer correctly, for 90% of the hunt it literally aims itself and critical distance is disabled so you don’t need to worry about positioning at all. It also seems like the dragonpiercer shot automatically goes down the length of the monster after it hits regardless of which direction you were aiming but I’m not entirely sure about that. The tracer round has no cooldown either so if you hit it on a shitty spot, just fire it again and try hit the head. There is literally no penalty for missing. A lot of weapons seem to have been given style over substance changes, but the bow is by far the most egregious.
>>1032934 If you fill out the beta survey and tell them Denuvo makes it run like crap and complain about tranny shit in character creation they may ignore your complaint about tranny shit in character creation because "Denuvo makes it run like crap" makes you sound like a pirate. So fill out the beta survey twice if you tell them both.
>>1032943 toukiden 2 is actually really good, and capcom copied a bunch of shit from it to put in world.

>game boots >shader compilation werks >hope.tiff <in-game shaders are shidding and farding themselves with garbled aritfacts and missing ground textures Any luck on your ends, fellow linuxfags?
>fight a few of the first low rank monsters >claim it's too easy Not sure what you're expecting here, go play FU and hunt a kut ku, that'll be easy too.
>>1034053 Anon, there's easy and then there's MH World longsword iai counter attack spam. The level of dumbing down is very apparent with each release, don't be a retard.
Just tried the intro. Unfortunately, I had some cyberpunk level visual issues going on. The initial boss enemy was just a pile of twisted up polygons that looked like a really low quality LOD. No amount of playing with settings seems to fix it either. Kills any enthusiasm for playing when all the monsters are strange polygonal blobs.
>>1033122 Now that I've played the beta, I can say that the inclusion of focus mode might be a little bit worse than i thought. A lot of weapons got additional combos that are pretty lengthy and it's pretty hard to hit the whole thing unless you use it because the monster moves out the way too quickly. The lance seemed especially bad with this, but gunlance and charge blade also suffer a bit. Some weapons like the longsword can zip around and spin without using focus mode though so it's sort of a case by case basis. I was planning on just ignoring the focus mode as much as I can because I still think it's a retarded inclusion. I will correct myself and say that the bow isn't as retarded as I initially thought it was, because the tracer does actually use up part of your new meter which you also use to apply coatings, but still, your reward for getting consistent damage and building the meter is letting the game play itself for you. It's like beating a game to unlock easy mode. It just seems very misguided. Performance was terrible, everybody's been saying that and it was quite evident from the requirements for the game so I won't dwell on it. I have an i7-7820x and a 1080ti and i was getting sub 20fps in certain areas of the map regardless of graphics settings, significantly worse than DD2 even and we all know how shit that game ran. I have a sliver of hope that maybe they will actually fix things for PC before release and that this demo build in particular is a few months old. I mean, it would be insane if the latest entry in their flagship series just barely worked on pc on launch right? (right?) Everything else about the combat seems promising though. The new offset attacks were quite hard to time and pretty satisfying. I could only land the switch axe's one cause I couldn't really get a grip of the delay with the hammer's upswing. The wounding mechanic is much better than the clutch claw but it does seem ridiculously broken with some weapons. For example, greatsword can go from the wounding attack straight into TCS and longsword essentially gets 2 whole levels of the spirit gauge filled from it. I liked the map quite a lot too. The terrain had a decent amount of variety in terms of elevation without being a ledge-filled clusterfuck like some World and 4U maps are. Obviously it's just one map but the desert will be cool at least. All the monsters that were in the demo were really fun to fight and ray dau in particular has an awesome theme and it's pretty satisfying trying to get an offset attack against him. My only other gripe was the disappointing sound effects and lack of hitstop. The part of the monster you hit kind of jiggles/reacts a bit when you hit it so with some extra effects I think landing a hit could be very satisfying. It seems to be a pretty common complaint online so maybe they will actually fix it before launch if they listen to feedback? Again, we'll just have to wait and see. Given that they actually do fix the performance on PC, I could see myself enjoying this game more than World and Rise. The focus mode is still very disappointing but at the very least you can challenge yourself to not use it. >>1034146 Supposedly this happens if you don't have enough vram
>>1033934 Alright, what I figured out in the mean time: >current build of Proton Experimental (bleeding edge) >surface detail = lowest setting no more missing/glitching ground textures >ambient occlusion = off no flickering
>does nothing >just fucking dies What's the point of this thing? The only I'd ever notice taking damage without looking at my HP is the extremely telegraphed jumping slam. This punching bag is an INSULT to *cabra kind. Even G.Jaggi looks like a juiced-up giga event mon next to this fucker.
>>1034420 >Supposedly this happens if you don't have enough vram I read some fags with top of the line shit having it happen as well. Shit was just fucked in general. >>1034760 I guess to be a shitty monster for new and far more casual players to learn the basics with.
>>1034420 The slide problem with hammer from World and Rise feels like they made some bare minimum amount of effort to try and make you not slide all over the place, but not much. Apparently the IG got super screwed by focus mode, but I don't care about the frog stick. >>1034760 Great Jagras was also an embarrassing punching bag, this is par for the course.
>>1034053 Kut ku has more than 5 attacks though
>>1035578 At least Great Jagras became a threat when he ate something and almost all his moves would stagger you. The stupid frog can't stagger you with most of his moveset and only one move does real damage. Also stole this video from Twitter some guy made pointing out the hitstop differences. The demo really did feel lacking with some weapons. I thought they pulled a DD2 and gave everything reverse hitstop for a while until I used hammer.
So, is this shit out already?
>>1035696 Nah, they just did a test run for consoles and pc.
>>1035709 I see, I thought I was going to see this game pass by the same way DD2 did.
Eh, might as well post a Wilds Gunlance breakdown I made for some friends. ====== I like it a lot, like, a whole damn lot. The combo routing is changed significantly, but not in a bad way. Old fullburst route has one more input to do the wyrmstake, as it shares a wide sweep ender with double lateral thrust. Instead, your optimal damage route for slaplancing seems to be rising>falling>wide sweep>wyrmstake full blast>multi wyrmstake full blast>(optional wyvernfire)>(optional wyvernfire). Old fullburst is used as a middle-ground between that and regular shelling or shell>thrust>shell>thrust. You can also transition into the multi-wyrmstake combo off of any wide sweep, or just do a plain wyrmstake off of wide sweep if you don't feel like you can commit to the full funny combo. Each wyrmstake full blast also has a guard point in it while readying the wyrmstake, though these are very hard to use. You can hold a movement direction while shelling to hop that direction while shelling, giving gunlance the ability to attack and reposition at the same time. You can even shell hop forward, so the issue of getting pushed out of combat while shell spamming is much less of a thing. I do hope the hop distance changes by shelling type though, as it's going to suck if wide lances only get 2 hops before having to reload. It's nowhere near as cool as blast dash (RIP, you will be missed), but it is more practical I suppose. Charged shelling has also been reworked, it now loads multiple shells into the same shot, letting you release them all at once for fat damage, if you so choose. Same use cases as charged shelling in older monhuns VS going for your longer combos. Guard reload is now baked into quick reload, so that's a nice change that was kept from Rise. You also get a guard point while manual reloading. In exchange, wyvernfire no longer has a guard point (which is dumb since you're literally taking a defensive position to fire it in every single wyvernfire animation). Speaking of guard, like every other weapon with a shield, gunlance has perfect guard mechanics awfully similar to Relink's perfect guard (no stamina depletion if you time block just before a hit lands perfectly, also you take no chip), instead of building up to a stun or inflicting more stun like lance, though, perfect guards instead build up to power clashes. I really like power clashes, really adds that extra feeling of being a frontliner to lance and gunlance. Other weapons get it too, but due to the nature of these weapons preferring guard to dodge most of the time, they'll experience it the most in multiplayer. I do not like how much focus mode trivializes the multi wyrmstake combo route. It's supposed to be a high-risk-high-reward route all about good positining, but due to how focus mode lets you freeaim so easily, you can spam it far more easily than you should be able to. Either the turning you can do mid-move in focus needs to be nerfed, or something else needs to be changed about it to better incentivize using the full moveset. The drill move in focus mode is cool, though. Flashy and powerful. Not sure where to put this, but wyvernfire is MASSIVE now (The length of Rey Dau from tip of tail to skull, roughly), seems to go double the distance it did before in a big line, and it can break multiple wounds on a monster if you aim it right with focus mode. A nice buff, I think. TL;DR It's a significant improvement from both rise and world, base moveset wise, but I miss blast dash and I feel like wyvernfire should get guard points back. ======== Anyone else have any interesting takes on the weapon changes? I do think I'm the most worried about focus mode being too strong overall, though. It removes any thought that goes into horizontal positioning so the only positioning that matters is relative distance to the monster, which is made irrelevant since the fuckers practically sit on top of you when fighting now. The only monster that made an effort to dodge attacks was Rey Dau with his flying wing slices.
I wasn't able to play as my potato laptop can't handle the game and I don't want pixelated shit, but one thing that really, really would make me play in the future is the way they handled the switch axe. They have finally made it so that if you hit with the axe, your sword gauge increases! I hate the fact that in the past it was about optimizing your sword gauge so much that you sometimes never get out of it (generations was fucking busted mode 24/7 sword mode). I kinda like that: Keep hitting with the axe and then switch to sword whenever you can. Again, I have only played it once but that was what I noticed. Definitely the sword gauge increased with axe hits.
>>1036496 Following up with this. I have just checked a video and indeed, the sword gauge no longer refills with time (unless you sheathe). Rather, you do need to hit with the axe to replenish it.
>>1036496 >>1036499 That doesn't really sound like a big deal. If you're not doing damage you should keep your weapon sheathed anyway. Reloads still exist, right?
(19.39 MB 2560x1440 wyvernfire.webm)

>>1036466 Wyvernfire does have a guard point though? Maybe this guy is only able to guard this attack because it doesn't need guard up? I completely agree on the focus mode though. The best way to play now seems to be to just spam your biggest damage combo on the monster's head without having to really consider where you're standing. As for the weapons, I really like how the hunting horn seems to want you to play songs to deal damage now instead of just playing buffs and then spamming some swings over and over. I think the echo wave style songs that do a damaging explosion when played will actually be pretty useful in this game. >>1036496 It's a great change for sure, but they also got rid of a change made in Rise where axe mode puts down phial explosions too. It actually made axe mode part of your main damage output. As it stands, it seems that you use the axe mode just a little bit to fill up the sword, and then spam it's big charge up move (I think it's called Release Slash or something like that). At least the axe has an offset attack which is much easier to time than the sword mode's parry but I'm pretty disappointed they reverted that change. >>1036827 They do, but doing the axe's basic combo fills up the bar almost just as much anyway so you might as well just do damage too.
>>1036881 That guard point is from a reload, not the wyvernfire. All reloads now have guard points on them as that was borrowed from guard reload in Rise. Notice how she gets all her shells back. Second one wasn't a block either, it was hyperarmor, notice the HP damage. And on focus, yeah I hope they nerf how much you can turn between moves during it, at least, or do SOMETHING to make it less overcentralizing compared to not being in focus mode.
So, what have you all been hunting lately? Any cool builds you working on or just finished? Any good fashion you've thrown together? Personally, I've been getting really into rise and made a hunting horn build and refined several of my old builds now that I figured out how to get negative skills to function properly with the Qurious cheating mod.
>>1040160 Just started a new MHW run going full HBG with shield. My goal is killing fatalis with it, because i could never kill fatty with a HBG. Aside from, been playing MH4U story for the first time too, it's nice, But i'm not really feeling CB in there, it's absurdly ppwerful (or maybe the monsters are just that weak in the offline) but it's too boring. Might actually go full HBG there too.
>>1040160 I've been playing 3U with some friends. We're now HR7 so almost at Dire Miralis. I know Goldbeard Ceadeus has some of the best armour you can get in G-rank, so I thought it would be a good idea to get Nibelsnarf armour for pierce up and Green Narga's HBG for pierce 3 so we can fuck up Ceadeus or whatever other annoying monster we might need to kill underwater. idk if that's the best HBG you could get but it seemed easy enough to make because you can make it directly without having to upgrade into it. >>1040247 Charge blade, greatsword and insect glaive are all really fucked up in that game, but the village quests are pretty easy, at least up until high rank. Honestly, not the worst thing in the world as you are pretty much required to beat the entire village to get through the hub as well (which I think is appropriately difficult, if you feel like soloing).
>>1040160 Mostly just flopping about endgame Sunbreak with a friend who wants to see most of the sights before Wilds, and bouncing between MHTri and MHP3rd. >>1040247 MH4U CB is the reason CB gets hit with the nerf bat every other game.
How's Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin?
The game comes out in a month. Does anybody care?
>>1062794 monster hunter games only actually matter after the expansion is released to be honest.
With the latest behaviour from capcom and Itsuno leaving I really don't have any desire to buy/play anything from them ever again.
>>1062852 I'll probably keep an eye on the new Onimusha and Okami games, but your feelings are understandable.
>>1062794 I care, I guess, since I was given the PC version as a Christmas gift. As long as it's better than World and Capcom keeps to their word about optimizing it should be okay at least. Then again it's very easy to make a better hunter game than MH World. It's not going to top GU or Rise for me, though. Especially with the fiercely retarded remarks regarding why they left out Basarios and how that reflects on design as a whole. Means some of my favorite monsters are being left out of this one because they're not "serious business" enough for this super serious game. At least Bazelgeuse has a chance though. The only thing that could fuck it up worse than World is if we got a "Borderlands 3" tier story or if we get something as shitty as the Clutch Claw was stapled on later in the story or in G rank.

>>1065491 It's not. You're literally not looking forward. It also makes no sense for crawling unless at very specific opening angles but they're not doing that.
>>1065592 Nigger, the Wilds hunter is looking forward as said hunter crawls through a tunnel. Did you even watch the video you posted? Just go the fuck back wherever you came from with your shitty low-effort ragebait. That's also the slinger camera position, and your garbage cuckchan video doesn't have the bitrate necessary for me to see a cursor or not, so for all I know some chucklefuck took the lazy way out and faked some bullshit to generate controversy instead of doing some actual sleuthing like trying to upskirt characters or similar "sex-full" behavior older games let you do.
>>1065656 Your (merited) disdain for cuckchannuru aside, what kinda wackytobaccy have you been smoking to give Shartcom the benefit of the doubt?
>>1065656 The camera isn't, retard.
>>1065685 The fact that the beta very much did not make the game "sexless" as characters and the character creator are a massive upgrade from world when it comes to letting you make beautiful characters, once again being able to have a feminine walk cycle on a female character, and the old undergarment designs still being in there too. I still have a ton of doubts regarding performance, gameplay being shit for several weapons, concerns about hammer becoming a blunt TCS spammer with the new charge, removal of monhun language and partial removal of palico meows hinting toward too much mainstreamification, questionable developer philosophies regarding monster selection, some of the new armor designs feeling more like dauntless armor than MH armor, worries about putting too much focus on the story, etc. Capcom clearly are altering course on the sex appeal front, or at least maintaining their old course as outside of some arguments about Sunbreak armor having too many spats and world having fugly characters due to artsyle changes (something wilds is explicitly avoiding), these games have always had sex appeal to some degree. Also, Gemma is right there. And while I don't like her wack-ass haircut and think she looks like she has a minor case of fetal alcohol syndrome, the internet is cumming buckets over her for one reason or another. Your handler buddy is also quite cute looking. Short version. My complaint is this is calling the sky falling and full on grand censorship over... a changed camera angle that's probably caused by pressing the slinger button in tight spaces? And otherwise could've easily been done to see better as you can easily get upskirt views and similar things otherwise during hunts and there are no other indicators of "sexless" approaches to things? All while there's at least a dozen other LEGITIMATE things to complain about and worry over that aren't this. Just for this cuckchan retard though, I'll do the investigating his nigger ass is too lazy to do and check this myself alongside a ton of other things during the next beta. >>1062852 Also this, if I wasn't getting it as a gift as I mentioned already (don't know why my ID swapped >>1063046) I wouldn't have bothered with this entry unless there was massive non-shill post release praise. Too many red flags and too many doubts to have about too many things. I'd also prefer not to melt my rig trying to run the game without all the bullshit fake frame garbage enabled.

You can really see those soylent gen'd frames POP. Quite literally.
>>1068280 Would it kill you to type like a normal human being and not a terminally online zoomer?
>>1068280 The game test they did before looked and ran like dogshit. This is pretty much what I expected.
>>1068325 Ironic!
>>1068280 Contrary to what you might believe, the "soylent" in this post of mine is in fact not some attempt at the (sadly) all too common parlance of our times, but instead it is an exceedingly high-brow witticism I spontaneously coined. You see, in the eponymous movie, starring Charlton Heston, something called "soylent green" is fed to the starving masses of Average Joes. The big twist here is that this newfangled peasant chow is not, as purported by the manufacturers, made from plankton, but PEOPLE. Now, if you've been reading this carefully you just might be on the cusp of understanding where I am going with this truly MENSA-tier endeavour. You see, just like the Soylent Corporation in the movies, Nvidia (aka Njudea, Jewvidea and TEAM GREEN) has foisted upon the hapless consumers a ploy most wicked and foul. THE FRAMES! The frames, BY JOVE, they are FAKE. Generated out of thin air! Nothing but the gay fever dream of a machine. As the astute observer might notice by the first image in my post they are indeed so fake, that even the abbreviated FPS is smeared across the screen like so much fecal matter across the bathroom mirror in a Bangladeshi Callcenter. Do you get it? Soylent green - Soylent Gen(erated)? Should I bring out the sockpuppets? Maybe jangle some keys during the intermission, hm? Now go sit in the dumdum corner and reflect on the irony of your usage of "*oomer", you cuckchan-addled fag.
>>1068365 The joke doesn't work because soylent green wasn't fake. They just lied about what it was made of. Whereas the frames generated are artificial. It's more akin to plant made "meat".

>>1068365 Fiiine, here's your (you) for making me laugh. The benchmark is a pretty shit tool though, if you ask me, if not misleading. It doesn't show much of the actually intense parts that actually matter, such as actually fighting monsters. Unless it's doing a lot more than it says it is doing, which I doubt. As for fake frames/framegen tech. I hope this bullshit dies out sometime soon and gets rightfully mocked out of popular use. Probably when Nvidia rightfully crashes and burns for putting all their eggs in the AI generation basket.
Why are the Japanese so shit at optimizing games on PC? A lot of devs are bad at this now but the Japanese especially so. Is there a particular reason for this? Do they fall for a lot of graphics technology memes? >>1068619 The word is new but the concept has existed in some form for about three thousand years. You can read descriptions of diets that can interpreted today as veganism from ancient Northern China.
>>1068669 They haven't had much experience with developing for PC since the 80s/90s, excluding the devs who only make PC games to begin with.
>>1068669 Back in the late 90s and early 2000s we always just accepted that the Japanese had great hardware design but shitty software, the programming ethos of Japan has always been get it done by a deadline and make sure there aren't any show stopping bugs. Optimization was usually never even thought about because as long as the software ran decently enough on the hardware spec at the time why would you worry about optimizing? And who would care after a year? since Japanese people don't give a s*** about preserving anything that's a corporate product. They lose the source code and assets the time and never back anything up because muh piracy! Or some shit.
>>1068685 Why are you censoring yourself?
>>1068688 My good man, this is a Swear = Forbidden Word (SFW) board, it's only natural for him to do so.
>>1068643 The benchmark is absolutely misleading, since all it says is "average fps". >200 fps during cutscenes (at least half of the entire test) <sub 50 drops during gameplay sequences That's the opposite of "Excellent". It's dogshit.
>>1068669 The last time PC was genuinely a popular platform in for gaming in Japan was probably 1987. By 1990 developers had fully moved onto the Famicom, PC Engine and Mega Drive. PCs have only been regaining their popularity for gaming starting in 2018, and taking off in 2021. That's over 30 years of technological atrophy to overcome in a few years, game development practices in Japan aren't designed with PCs in mind and as such, studios are facing a lot of growing pains as they try to get back in PC development.
For anyone playing beta go to options, controls, page 1: Button configurations, select type 2. You can now cycle your quick bar with the D pad and move your camera at the same time.

>>1068669 PC ports of Japanese console games have generally gone better compared to how they used to be in the late 2000's up to the mid 2010's, but you need to bear in mind (and this could be a tough pill to swallow for some) that PC users will always be treated as second-class citizens regardless and with most often the bare minimum of effort. Like how Earth Defense Force 6 had the Epic Online Service API on the console release to allow cross-platform online between the PS4 and PS5 in Japan while it was poorly implemented on the PC port for the first few months after release. Or Freedom Wars not allowing an option to switch for Japanese voice-acting right at the start because it's a straight port of the console release simply taking account of the system language upon launch, just like on consoles. That being said, my observations of Monster Hunter Wilds is that it's not a well optimized title regardless of the platform, not even on PS5. It makes the B-team behind MH Rise look like tech wizards with the customized RE Engine on a smaller machine with lesser specs, and I only recall the stampede tower defense sections as the parts where performance could take a significant hit.
I said I'd do some investigating, so here it is. THE SEXNESS REPORT= Before we begin, I am alternating between two outfits for these screenshots as they weren't taken in chronological order, both outfits can be upskirted and the angle works for some other outfits, but only the hope greaves ♀ actually have a skirt and panties to them. The Doshugama greaves ♀, which I will post in the second post as I have more than 5 pics to share here, are a straight up subligar and can be used for similarly lewd outfits just with the eight basic armor sets we have now. I did investigate the crawling, first off, and discovered it is, in fact, like that. However, unlike older gen crawling it's a direct on-rails cutscene, interesting enough. There are underwater sections that function much closer to the old-gen crawling, though, and you can upskirt in those. There are two undergarments that are the female ones, and two male ones, male armor 2 is revealing and female 2 is near identical to old gen. There's also breast physics more defined than world and rise's when you are wearing clothing, though none of the armor so far has this physics due to being of rigid construction or being loose. There is an undershirt and tights option, too, but such can be freely toggled off if you so desire and IIRC it's off by default. Characters in this this character creator are also an improvment over World by a notable margin, but suffer from the exaggerated facial animation problem that World did where your character can look quite fucked up during certain actions. Rise does not have this problem, of course, but it's much more stylized so it's poor for a direct comparison. As far as looks between the three games I'd say it goes World<Wilds<Rise but Wilds does bring back true female animations instead of a shared rig for all characters. It's also incredibly easy to upskirt your character in idling and will happen frequently naturally during combat depending on your weapon. None of the usual transparency bullshit is in play, but the camera does not like being near the floor, just like DD2 in such regard. Probably an RE Engine thing.
>>1069302 It's pretty easy to make a revealing outfit even in this beta, too. And older-gen armor designs like chainmail and alloy are also faithful to those old designs, or even lewder like with chainmail having exposed arms and armpits now. There's only a handful of armor sets we can see so far, of course, so it could just be an elaborate bait and switch, but why put these on NPCs if such is the case and not make them player accessible in demo if it's bait? Overall, I'd say it's in line with older monster hunter games. >>1069297 Yeah Rise was really good about optimization. It staggers me that DD2 and this game chug so hard. They don't seem to be doing super-complex environment simulation either, so I wonder if it's just bad model construction instead of putting more effort into quality texturework domino-ing into a ton of other issues.
>>1069305 > It staggers me that DD2 and this game chug so hard. The REengine was never designed to do open world stuff hence why DD2 and this run like absolute shit but Capcom just keep pushing the engine when it clearly can not do what they require. You would think Capcom would optimize the hell out of Wilds to get as many people to play it but clearly they do not care and why should they when you will have fuckwits running 4 grand PC's using DLSS and frame gen just to brute force a "playable" framerate telling you you "just need to upgrade, bro" for a game that looks barely better than World.

Tempered glass is fragile and can't withstand sudden heat changes, so obviously it's a good idea to put it beside devices that can go from room temperature to 80 degrees centigrade in 20 minutes.
>>1069411 Blame PC manufacturers tbh. Every new high end PC has glass for no reason other than gimmick despite this issue continuing to happen.

BREAKING NEWS >local anon decidedly NOT feeling it >nearby residents encouraged to ignore glass posting and talk about the vidya at hand! Just gave Archakaveldingus(??) a couple of tries. The flagship monster with the floppy whips on his wings. Is it just this fucker that feels like he's mounted on skates or does the entire game feel floaty? >>1069443 Pyrex using tempered soda lime glass, a material that does not handle heat changes, for applications that will be facing high heat changes, was certainly a move. >>1069302 >>1069305 The skimpy outfits remain, the real problem is they now let you use either gender's armor set, meaning you're going to see subhumans with male characters wearing female armor.
>>1069361 Height, no. But you can make your character thinner/bulkier and it has the stupid DD2 muscle definition slider that looks like lines drawn on your character. Bulkier female chars have larger breasts but you look fat. >>1069443 Part of the floatiness is the complete lack of hitstop. Your moves feel like they glide right through enemies and do nothing, an issue DD2 also had for some stupid reason. Makes me think there's some retard exec pushing it but I can't be sure. Same exec is also probably the same guy pushing for the FMV food bullshit. Arkveld is also a chump if you can stick behind him, as he doesn't have any good moves for reaching back there except for the tail stab. He's very scary if you fight him from the front though or end up being the one holding his aggro so everyone else can attack him from the rear. Wonder why they used elk/deer noises for the white dragon's roars, though.

>>1069422 Have you considered building your own keyboard?
>>1069687 >Have you considered building your own keyboard? Yeah, actually. The main problem is that I want backlighting but ONLY through the legends of the keycaps, which means either buying some old proprietary boards (IIRC there have only ever been like three or four switches made by anyone with translucent stems) to rip the switches out of because MX switches don't play nice with that kind of lighting and then going from there or trying to have some kind of custom skirt fabricated. Finding double-shot SA (my preference) keycaps is also basically a chore in its own right. Eventually I just gave up and got a Boston and it's great even if I was 2poor for the aluminum one.
>>1069648 So they got "one guy'd" into it? I don't think I've ever seen someone complain about hitstop in action games, ever. Western or otherwise. The other bullshit about removing hitstun or nerfing it I can at least because there's always retards whining about mechanics that add charm to games or make you actually have to think about positioning, regardless of genre. Still think it's stupid to remove and just gives me yet another reason to hate longsword users. Doesn't explain it's removal from DD2, separate teams and all, nor the weird fmv-looking food thing that's, again, consistent across multiple IPs. Food's always been a big thing in Monster Hunter, I know, but it's this specific camera work and the attempt at almost photorealism (when the rendering doesn't shit the bed) that makes it an eerie mirror of how DD2 does the camp food BS.

>>1069988 I don't think the problem is "just one guy". The usual pipeline for Japanese games getting worse the more popular they grow in the West is something like: >nipdev make cool game >barely advertised outside of Japan >cool game garners passionate fans all over the world >suits start smelling shekels >pump bajillion Yen in big ad campaign <in comes Takeda-san from the Powerpoint department <he made a chart that says "number go UP" <start watering down gameplay, listening to focus groups, looking at popular AAAA shit, etc. >new game is shit, but significantly more popular than any preceding title And then the elevens attribute the success to their catering to normalniggers, instead of the unprecedented amounts of advertising. Take a look at MHWorld. Keep the scope of the game, the production value, everything. Maybe even make a couple of concessions in the QoL department. Now fix all the remaining faults. Make it your personal nearly-perfect Monster Hunter game. Would the game have sold significantly less? I don't believe so.

I don't know anything about Monster Hunter. I tried the one for the Wii like 10 years ago and it just didn't seem to click for me. And now I feel like I've missed my chance because I keep hearing about how it's changed for the worst. I still want to play Peace Walker just for the MH parts though. >>1069399 >>1069411 Here's your case, bros.
In case any anons here haven't seen, the open betas and the benchmark have been extensively datamined and a lot of things are known about the game now, including the full monster roster, a large part of the story, the game's progression, etc. A summary of everything can be found on /r/monsterhunterleaks, just check the pinned thread. One interesting thing about the game on the RPG side is that effort has been placed in increasing the variety of builds. The main raw damage boosting skills (Attack Up, Critical Eye, Weakness Exploit and Crit Boost) have all been nerfed and element attack up is easier to get, only requiring 3 points to max out. The people responsible for the datamines seem to be in the process of compiling all the weapon stats that were left in the beta and it looks pretty well balanced from what has been posted so far. It looks like element might actually be viable on every weapon type, as weapons like the greatsword apparently have much higher element values to compensate for their slower attack speed. Also, the hunting horn now has echo wave songs for each element and status which is pretty cool. All weapons have basically the same number of slots when fully upgraded as well (Most weapons have 3 2 1 slots, with some having 3 3 1). All this, combined with the fact that weapons have skills on them now like armour, hopefully means the weapon you pick isn't just going to be the thing with the highest raw or affinity or whatever which invalidates 90% of the other choices. Here's the list of monsters for those who don't want to search through plebbit (Some story spoilers included if you care): Chatacabra, Quematrice, Lala Barina, Congalala, Balahara, Doshaguma, Uth Duna, Rompopolo, Rey Dau, Nerscylla, Hirabami, Ajarakan, Nu Udra, Ice Apex Leviathan, Shiiwuu/Xie Wu (spelling isn't known but it's something like that), Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, Rathian, Rathalos, Seregios, Gravios, Blangonga, Gore Magala, Lagiacrus, Guardian Arkveld, Guardian Doshaguma, Guardian Rathalos, Guardian Ebony Odogaron, Guardian Fulgur Anjanath, Zotia, Flying Wyvern Arkveld Title updates: Mizutsune, Zinogre, Gogmazios and a brand new monster You can look through plebbit if you want the full story summary (which was found through cutscene audio being left in the files not just some crackpot theories from vague item descriptions or NPC dialogue or something) but the Guardian monsters are artificial monsters created by an ancient civilization. Arkveld is supposed to have blue blood, but this was changed in the beta to be red so as to not give away anything suspicious. Ice Apex Leviathan is the guy in the Iceshard Cliffs trailer that's breathing ice on the group of Hirabami Zotia is the final boss of low rank Guardian Arkveld is labeled as "Chained Arkveld" in open beta 2 and is fought in low rank. Flying Wyvern Arkveld is the final boss of high rank and is presumably the "unchained" version. Mizutsune, Zinogre, Gogmazios and the brand new monster are all possible title updates and don't have an overwhelming amount of evidence in the files, but I imagine Gog is definitely coming back with the Oilwell Basin fitting him perfectly ~31 monsters on launch which is not that bad considering there aren't like 4 version of Jaggi and recolours of the existing ones (there is reason to believe the Guardian versions of some of the monsters will be a bit more distinct than variants in previous games but we'll have to see) but I was certainly expecting a few more considering they can pull stuff from both World and Rise now. An interesting note about the progression is that most of the returning monsters are high rank exclusive. Yian Kut-Ku is now the introductory monster to high rank, a nod to his Japanese nickname of "sensei" and was also hinted at by one of the devs. Can't remember the exact quote but he said something along the lines of Yian Kut-Ku's placement in the game being something to look out for while mentioning the sensei thing. >>1070002 >Would the game have sold significantly less? I don't believe so. This is what really annoys me about focus mode, and really a lot of the other dumb changes they've made (like the new longsword making Rise look like fighting a dude in the fucking Elder Scrolls). They neutered the combat in World and it's Capcom's best-selling game. Therefore, what the game needs is another stupid mechanic that basically destroys one of the main things that makes the game unique among all action games. It's totally not like the game was going to break sales records regardless of if they dumbed it down or not.
>>1070008 I can't tell if this is a mutated laptop fan/dock combo or a mutilated case
>>1070052 If you look closely at it you can see it has a slot for a motherboard io shield and has multiple pcie brackets, so it is just a really bizarre case.

>>1070023 gotta say it was really weird running fucking crit on greatsword in world. Thanks for the info anon.
>>1070008 >And now I feel like I've missed my chance because I keep hearing about how it's changed for the worst. Older MonHun (pre-World) was archaic, both intentionally and incidentally. The pace of gameplay was slower, there was often a considerable amount of jank and a lack of QoL features and this kept it in its niche despite the popularity of the games. This was very much a mixed bag, as there were some parts of the old game that were basically a CBT simulator and every game has at least a couple fights that are major vibe checks. Also worth mentioning: there is nothing stopping you from pirating and/or emulating ANY MonHun game (except the MMO for obvious reasons) so go nuts if you want to try it. The recommended pre-World games to get your feet wet with are MH Generations Unite and MH3 Unite as they're the most accessible and generally the most polished; some games are harder to emulate (MH Dos) and there are a couple that are notoriously hard as balls, like Freedom Unite. >>1070023 REEEEE GODDAMN IT CAPCOM WHERE ARE MY FUCKING CRABS HOW DO YOU HAVE LIKE FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS OF SPIDER BUT NO CRABS
>>1070002 Doing this doesn't always result in more success for a series in the long term though. Normalfaggots are forgetful creatures and will dump an IP if the product doesn't at least retain a notable chunk of the original fanbase or keeps their goodwill. As bad as World was, at least it was still a monster hunter game at the core gameplay level even if it was missing a ton of the sillier elements and taking itself way too seriously. We also got Rise right after and that was much more similar to old-gen. I just hope that Wilds isn't retarded levels of "super serious business" like world was where the faggot fivers are bitching about Magnamalo in Rise being "too over the top" when shit like Ahtal-Ka the mech pilot, Duramboros the looney tunes mon, even Brachydios the magic slime monster, etc etc are all right fucking there. >>1070023 Nice to hear that they're trying to keep things more balanced like Rise was trying to do. Though Rise did it through alternate moves and better motion values and all that. Raw still pulled ahead but elemental wasn't actively griefing at endgame. Shame they're being bumblefucks in the moveset department and turned half the roster into "one move go brr" weapons like Greatsword was in World.

Those had better be some pretty fucking important skills on the weapon given how many more you get from armor and that weapons generally have better slots now. I'm not about to lose 10% of my raw and/or affinity for points in earplugs or speed eating or some shit. Something like a GS with low raw, high affinity and a point each of WEx and Crit Boost, though... Good potential so long as they don't excise novelty in the name of balance.

What's better, P3rd or FU? I want to try the series out and those are the two I want to pick between.
>>1072261 P3rd doesn't have g-rank so it's basically a incomplete version of 3ultimate, it's a nice experience and it doesn't have the jank that freedom unite have, but it's way shorter than almost every other mon hun game out there. FU is the second biggest game in the series but it's janky as all hell, expect frustration and a bunch of bullshit. If you don't mind emulation i would recommend 4U, it has a lot of content and don't have the jank from FU
>>1072261 >What's better, P3rd or FU? I want to try the series out and those are the two I want to pick between. Horrible choices. P3rd has basically half of the content that it should and FU is janky and hard as balls. That said, FU is a certified hood classic and is much, MUCH better emulated as opposed to playing it on native hardware simply because trying to play MonHun on PSP is basically torture. The way old MonHun works is basically that every generation from the original to GU you have one or two smaller games and then a bigger game that brings everything together; for gen 2 this is FU, for gen 3 it's 3U and then for gen 4 it's 4U and GU. Those are the most accessible points and have the most content. World is also worth playing. It has some questionable design decisions but with the various title update and Iceborne monsters it has a strong roster and is very fun.

He also shits on guard builds due to doing way too much chip even with guard 5 and guard up. >Nargacuga Garbage fight in world, he doesn't even use his tail spikes anymore and gets walked over where he is in progression. >Yian Garuga Nerfed him too much, he's not nearly as annoying as his original incarnation and the new roar is awful. Theme is also a shit rendition >Zinogre Theme is a 0/10 and they ruined his roar. Savage Jho is alright I guess, he gets a pass. But one monster does not a game make. And most of that shit is at endgame after slogging through the awful story and the sea of shitty brute wyverns, enshittified old monsters, terrible theme renditions, clagger, and clutch claw bullshit you have to interact with.

Most of the area we got to play was somewhere was simultaneously visually boring and cluttered, the map (as in the map screen, not the playable area) is worse than before and absolutely filled with crap, I don't like the emphasis on mounts and - most importantly - the roster seems very slim for the third "modern" MonHun. I'm not expecting a GU-tier roster at launch and as far as I'm concerned some of them (jobbers like -dromes mostly) are welcome to stay gone but barring some massive surprises when the game releases there are some truly glaring absences (where are my fucking crabs, Crapcom?) as well as just a smaller roster in general and that does not bode well. I've just finished the game and beat the final high rank Arkveld quest. I didn't use the Seikret during combat and I benched the Palico from the start and so did my friend who I played most of high rank with. I also only used focus mode to attack the wounds although I think my friend was using it to spin around on the spot but I doubt that really made a huge difference to the difficulty. As you can see it took me ~31 hours while skipping all the cutscenes that I could and I expect the hardest quests in the game (tempered apexes and tempered Arkveld) would only take a few more hours to beat. My friend also got a cool end screen of me being shot at by Gravios. The pacing in low rank is terrible but thankfully the game gives you some more agency in high rank. You basically just pick a monster on the map that's spawned and go fight it with your only goal to progress the story being to raise your HR. There are a few story moments but not a lot of Sony walky-talky bits (maybe 2 or 3 I don't remember) so you can skip everything if you want to just fight stuff. I would say the difficulty with all the concessions I mentioned is about on par with World and Rise and the tempered monsters can be pretty tough a bit later on but again that's only if you make those concessions. The Seikret recovery just destroys the difficulty because none of the monsters are aggressive enough to try and catch you getting away. The only tempered apex I've tried so far is Nu Udra and he fucked my friend and I up but we've yet to make Arkveld's armour for some extra defense so I guess we'll see how hard the proper endgame quests are after that. Of course, nothing in these newer games can be truly difficult now that you can restock unless everything kills you in one shot or you have a really strict time limit. As far as mindlessly slapping the monster with a friend goes I definitely enjoyed it more than base World cause you could skip all the cutscenes and dialogue (walky-talky bits unaffected of course) and there is definitely way more spectacle here. Rise was easy as well but at least it was still balanced around using all the mechanics so you could still make use of all them without it being completely trivial and the game's story was out of the way so you could just enjoy the game without being interrupted every 5 seconds. I think I would've been bored to tears had I not limited what I could use in Wilds. It's really annoying seeing everyone online praise how this game has the best combat in the series despite the fact they've stripped away everything that made the combat unique. World may have let you restock your items and roll backwards but at least you couldn't spin around on the spot and ignore the core of the combat. That's not even considering the fact that the other mechanics in the game are just really poorly implemented. Perfect guard has such generous timing and you can do it with basically no penalty even with a greatsword. You can miss a swing and then cancel the recovery into a block, spinning to face the monster, and just take the hit even if it's some big fuck off nuke move and then get rewarded with a true charge slash. The offset attacks are active for the entire duration of the move. Again using the greatsword as an example, if you hit a monster with the upswing, the hitstop will naturally delay the animation finishing, which means you smack the monster in the face, let the hitstop pause the animation, and the monster's upcoming attack will STILL be offset. You can also offset LITERALLY every attack in the game that isn't a projectile. You know Yian Kut-Ku's little dance thing he does when he's mad where he jumps up and down on the spot? You can fucking offset that like what the fuck lol. I mean it doesn't really help to complain here of all places but I'm so tired of action games being praised to hell and back despite being as deep as a puddle. Of course when everyone's standard for good combat is "omg it has a parry" or "omg you can juggle the enemy" and nothing else of actual substance it's not really surprising but yeah. I do have to give credit to this game's fantastic music though. The Iceshard Cliffs theme is maybe one of my favourite area themes they've made and Nu Udra and Arkveld's story theme (yeah he has his own theme for the fight in the low rank story that's like a million times better than his actual theme and never plays again???) are some of my favourite monster themes. They even gave Rathalos a redone version of the Forest and Hills theme which was a nice surprise.
What is all the fuzz about normalfags complaining about the game's performance?

I finished the high rank plot. I feel pretty disappointed and unsatisfied. Killing great jaggis felt more satisfying than anything in this game, shits dies in ~5 minutes, there's no risk of me failing what so ever, and I get the full armor set and weapon in like 2-3 hunts. Anyone want to play with me when I finish village quests? Or should I just move on to dos after that?
Playing Wilds some more, basically reached the endgame. This game feels empty, like I'm playing with nothing but bots. It's not just the fights being lacking in challenge, even for high rank, it's this weird silence and lack of interactivity other players have. In Rise, GU, and even World you'd have banter with the randoms you hunt with and they'd actually respond back, sometimes even have small conversations and build or fashion advice to give, jokes about events in the hunts, if not that you'd have some back and forth emoting and similar voice-less interaction. This game? Nothing. Everyone feels strangely antisocial. Most people haven't even modified their auto-shoutouts either, and not one person has talked to me. I can count on one hand the times I've had emote-based interactions with randoms too. This feels awful and I miss Rise gathering hubs and how friendly they were. Why the fuck did they remove the gathering hub from the game only to patch it in later? Already got two builds I wanted to made, well, made too, so now I'm just farming money for upgrades and parts for random fashion. I keep playing out of some vain hope I'll find the magic, y'know, but it just ain't there. I'm also suffering from how badly they mangled Heavy Bowgun. No multiple ammo levels, no shrapnel ammo, guns are super limited with their secondary ammos, no recoil difference between bowguns, no recoil or deviation mod control (I don't even think there's a deviation stat at all?), new secondary ammo types are worthless and you're still better off going with Wyvernheart and the totally-not-wyverfine-ammo shitty offset attack, no crouching fire or charged fire. It all combines to make it feel like a massive downgrade even from GU, a HUGE downgrade from Rise, and even a notable downgrade from world. I'd take crafting and fast menuing any day over this dumbed-down over-simplified bullshit reminiscent of FF14's butcheries in recent years. Gunlance is still an improvement, at least... people are also saying it's meta now? That's hard to believe, gunlance the constantly shit on weapon now being near the top? Feels like bizarro world. At least we're still getting cool monster girl art. Much better than that annoying handler and that blacksmith the internet cums over for some reason. >>1080314 Never played the original. Sorry man. How is it, by the way?

>>1080335 >In Rise, GU, and even World you'd have banter with the randoms you hunt with and they'd actually respond back I have almost 3k hours in both rise and world and i've seen people talk maybe 4 times in all those hours. Wilds already have problems, you don't need to create new ones, it just makes you look like a schizo trying to fit in.
>>1080359 You didn't join many gathering hubs then, in Rise at least. People talk all the time in those. I also had tons of conversation with people in random SOS hunts and anomaly hunts in Rise. Same with a ton of convos in grinding lands in World. I don't know why people on this board fucking insist on saying people are posers or "fake" or "frauds" or "all one guy" or "are just people from some random discord" just because their takes or experiences differ from each other. It's one of the things that really pisses me off about this place. Did you play on PC or console? People have actual keyboards on PC so are more likely to talk to each other because, y'know, can type much faster than using an interface keyboard. You're also discounting interaction through emotes, which is my other big complaint. Most hunts in wilds just end and don't have any interaction throughout the hunt either. If the countdown doesn't get skipped people just ignore each other, no celebrations or emotes like such or anything. I hate it.
>>1080335 >How is it, by the way? I've had more trouble with bullfango than any other monster by far. If I wasn't using hammer maybe that would be a bit different but as I am they're insane.
>>1080362 >You're also discounting interaction through emotes, which is my other big complaint. Most hunts in wilds just end and don't have any interaction throughout the hunt either. If the countdown doesn't get skipped people just ignore each other, no celebrations or emotes like such or anything. I hate it. again, you're fabricating shit, people use stickers and emote at the end of the hunt almost all hunts i had, throwing fireworks, sending "good work" stickers, doing poses on top of monsters, only thing that people don't do anymore is trying to make people fly because of that shitty "shockproof" skill capcom added in Rise, some still use the time to train combos tho. also the platform doesn't matter since the game is crossplay now, so you get people from all platforms at all times.
>>1080381 Well my experience ain't the same as your experience. Maybe I'm just getting all the console players, flavor-of-the-monthers, and new guys. I just hope bringing back the gathering hub will remedy this somewhat for me. I'm not making shit up. It's your choice whether to believe me or not, but as far as I'm concerned and as far as I've experienced the friendliness and banter and such in-game is near dead compared to my experience in prior entries. >>1080371 Bullfango? Not Bulldrome, the little boars? That's pretty funny. Fuckers were a menace from day 1 I see.
I never played these games, but I heard they were hard. So I suppose they’re easy then?
>>1080434 Depends on how good you are and which one you're playing and what weapon you're using and what monster you're fighting.
>>1080434 It's a matter of each entry streamlining things for new players and the cumulative result is the newer games being braindead-easy to experienced fans. I played Freedom Unite as my first game, and my interest in the series peaked with Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, so I lost interest when I heard how much easier the next subsequent entry was, because they streamlined it for the new fans who complained about the difficulty and don't have the attention span for the finer details that made the games interesting to me.
>>1080434 The difficulty of the games comes from the monsters your up against and the fact you don't have a lot of tools other action games give you like dodge cancels and such. Older games also had more prepwork and monsters designed around specific mechanics that you could build around or bring weapons geared around, like tremors, weather or elemental weaknesses. Newer games remove a lot of these or significantly reduce their presence, but increase the challenge of fights to compensate. Wilds however goes way too far in the player's favor and doesn't increase the monster difficulty to compensate. Thus, Wilds being such an sharp drop in difficulty compared to prior ones. The roster also seems custom tailored to have as little "bullshit" as possible, even going so far as to get rid of all but one of Congalala's tremor moves, simplifying Blagonga's moveset, and not having a single roar-spammer monster.
>>1080314 If you do move on to Dos I wouldn't mind helping you out anon. I've tried to play a bit of the online quests but the few people who were online were all high rank. Also would be a lot easier to connect to a private server than going through the hassle of setting up a VPN thing over an imageboard to play on PPSSPP.
>>1080434 >I never played these games, but I heard they were hard. They are, but the advancement is 100% gear-based so skill rules everything. At first you die repeatedly in stupid and embarrassing ways, then you git gud and improve your gear and then once you're skilled enough to reliably beat down tough monsters your competence scales linearly with time invested until you can clown on everything. >So I suppose they’re easy then? Lolno, at least until World. The games are generally split up into low-rank quests, high-rank quests and G-rank quests and there are two lists - one that's designed to be played solo and another (Guild quests) where the monsters are tuned for multiplayer. The first few ranks of LR quests are just gathering materials, doing training fights and dunking on shitters and obviously aren't hard but every older game (GU and before) has at least three or four major vibe checks in both Low Rank and High Rank solo quests if you're not a veteran who already has the skills. The difficulty is also compounded by the fact that the nicest upgrades generally requires breaking specific parts of a monster's body and/or items that drop at a very low rate so fights aren't just a one-and-done - even if you barely survived your first Rathalos fight you'd better be ready to do it at least half a dozen more times if you need that ruby but didn't get it :^) Guild quests are harder still because of how the monsters are tuned for multiplayer and G-rank is masochism. To give some context for the difficulty scaling, the first proper large monster you fight in MHFU has 720 health and the final solo quest is an arena boss rush of FOUR monsters with a combined health pool of ~17,260 HP and your damage output is decreased to 75%. To 100% even the single-player quests in one of the older games is a hell of an accomplishment.
>>1080434 monster hunter (from freedom unite forwards at least) was never truly hard, at least not if you play it the way the devs intended the game to be played. even the endgame monsters in FU weren't really hard if you played in a 4-player team, if you try to solo the hub quests tho things change significantly. and yeah, the games have been getting easier and easier, tho aside from the wound system being absolutely overtuned in wilds, i don't think it's easier than world. if they fix just how easy it is to create wounds, how much damage it does and how long the monster gets stunned after you hit one things will get way better gameplay wise, since in end game monsters need only 2 to 4 hits to kill you. hell, gravios laser still takes 80% of your life still, the problem is that you stunlock it by abusing wounds. watch as wounds get very hard to come by in g-rank and people start crying that the game is too hard. i also hope these artian weapons grind doesn't come back in g-rank because this shit mechanic sucks ass, feels like i'm playing path of exile.
>>1080695 I don't see them making wounds less common. Instead I see CAPCOM changing wounds to work how they do for arch-tempered monsters, where only rare wounds of a specific color do the full stagger and/or knockdown. Even then most of the roster don't do big damage if you actually upgrade your armor, or don't have a crippling weakness to a specific element. I'm going to hate it if they pull a world 2.0 and just add a linear progression of harder monsters instead of adding a varied roster of challenging monsters. If they do take the World 2.0 approach I have no fucking clue how they're going to make Mizutsune harder than Gore Magala unless they're getting rid of his head breaks like they did to Rathalos and Rathian. As well as giving him the Soulseer moveset mixed with his Rise G-rank moveset.
>>1080702 Tempered, not arch-tempered. I'm fucking tired man. And another unrelated thing. While I mentioned it earlier in the thread, I'm thinking about it more. Why the hell did they dumb down Heavy Bowgun instead of giving it more tools to bring it on par with Light Bowgun when it comes to depth. They got rid of crouching fire again for some reason, didn't keep charge fire either, the customizations are completely imbalanced so you're just gimping yourself if you don't run the wyvernheart+wyvernfire combo, etc etc. The thing feels bland and the extra recoil on spread ammo feels too extreme and makes the shield near useless for the ammo type it'd normally benefit the most. It's frustrating.
>>1080702 >I'm going to hate it if they pull a world 2.0 and just add a linear progression of harder monsters instead of adding a varied roster of challenging monsters. World at launch had the (poor) excuse of being a new direction for the series and Rice at launch had the (poor) excuse of being the first MH in RE Engine but the fact that Wilds not only didn't ship with 50+ mons in the base roster but less than THIRTY, with a full half-dozen being either LR punching bags or guardian variants of monsters already in the roster, is just disgusting to me.
>>1080727 yeah, but that FIDELITY, anon, takes time and resources, pls understand. If vidya keeps going down this path we with reach the point where "videogames" are just still portraits, with the ongoing downhill slide in quantity, quality, and framerates.
>>1081660 I thought most of the dev time got eaten up by the Soyny style movie game that is Low Rank? Not fidelity. Said thing is why they didn't do Monhun Language as a VA option, so it stands to reason it also ate up the monster budget.
Any performance updates yet?

>>1082671 No. Don't expect them either. CAPCOM couldn't be assed to do it for DD2 what makes you think they'll do it for this game?
the update isn't doing anything about the retard proof difficulty is it?
>>1082704 They did one didn't they?
>>1082707 Doubt it. Look forward to Mizu and Lagi being chainstunned to death. >>1082721 Nope. Showcase today didn't mention anything either. The most we got was lip service about reading the surveys. I'm gonna just go indie dev a classic mh-like. Tired of the battered wife syndrome

>>1082756 I should have refunded this trashfire, I don't even want to bother with any new monsters.

>>1082763 It's getting to the point where piracy to act as a form of game demo is almost guaranteed needed to prevent buyers remorse like this.
