>>17930 And crucially, the target market has changed. The current crop of subcompacts/city cars are designed for an entirely different audience than the likes of the Mini, Metro or Panda. Cars like those 3 were made as the most basic form of automotive transportation for a fully grown family who need to get from A to B. They were built as fullsize cars but for a smaller frame. You had legroom in exchange for little in the way of safety. Cars like the 108, Up etc. are aimed for students/graduates who want to buy their first new car, and so are typically lesser equipped and have far less room in the back.
The Datsun 120Y was the mightiest car ever produced - ever! Fight me.
>>17930 >Those three cars are all built in the same Czech plant, at least for the first gen. >quotes 6 cars >talks only about 3 bro you're confusing Well if I remove the badge engeneering, theres: PSA's 108/C1 Opel's Adam (PSA now, but not at all the same car as those above) Renault's twingo Smart's Fortwo VW's trio Fiat 500 Kia Piccanto Hyundai i10 So that's way more than 3 differents cars. And I deliberately took off the Audi A1 and the Suzuki Ignis from the list. I'm pretty sure some other small cars are sold here but I don't have them in mind.

The Civic EP3. There was nothing really wrong with it, it was apparently a good driving car, and it was cheap. I very rarely see them anymore. I honestly think I'm going to get one for my wife as a first car.

>>17896 from Wikipedia > At the time of release, the base price was $64,000 (1981) (or $167,530 in 2015 dollars.) I think anon is wondering about a mass-produced affordable Ferrari. Fighter jets car equivalents 03/12/2019 (Tue) 21:08:29 Id: 6641f1 No. 17867 [Reply]
/ok/ here Fighter jets are pretty cool, but even the oldest ones millions of dollars in 2018. So what would be the automotive equivalents to these jets? F-14 Tomcat: Long-range, very powerful and fast hangar queen with active variable geometry (kinda like active aero). F/A-18: Can do pretty much anything, light and maneuverable. Pretty reliable, but frankly terrible range and limited speed are some of it's issues. F-4: Quite old (60s and 70s) but good for it's time. Reliable and quick, with a few peculiarities specific to it's airframe.
is that the latest ace combat I see? If I consider fighter jets are expensive compared to other planes, only hyper cars would fit in this list. So I'd go for: <Pagani Huayra <Porsche 918 <Ferrari GTO
>>17867 Running a steam tank on burning 1$ bills would be cheaper than to fly a jet equal distance
>Long-range, very powerful and fast hangar queen with active variable geometry (kinda like active aero). Porsche 959? >Can do pretty much anything, light and maneuverable. Junichi Tanaka, founder of JUN Auto Mechanics, passes away at age 76 Driver 03/11/2019 (Mon) 09:32:24 Id: 66ff66 No. 17863 [Reply]
Can't believe there's no tribute thread for this guy yet, especially when there was one for that sleazebag Marchionne. Without him, tuner culture would just about not exist, or at least exist in a far reduced capacity. >One of the powerhouses of Japan’s tuning world has passed. It was announced yesterday that Junichi Tanaka, founder of Jun Auto Mechanic, died the morning of March 5, 2019 due to complications from cancer. He was 76 years old. The firm was one of Japan’s most prolific tuning houses, the proof of which were the numerous world speed records held by the bright yellow cars that emerged from its walls.
>>17863 Yes it would exist. And it would not be filled with that many lowering and plastic bodypart kits.

>>17807 Thanks mate
Firstly, it depends on how car-literate you are. I'm presuming you at least know how to drive and do an oil change. If you're not confident with working on your own car for the time being, you should try disassembling and reassembling something much less complex and integral to your daily life (i.e. a computer or a lawnmower) until you get the hang of things. Any country where Toyota operates its own subsidiary (Japan ofc, US, Australia) is a country where their reliability and dependability is doubly ensured, so you should definitely opt for them if you want something from during the Aussie malaise period (approx. Falcon XD - XH) that won't give you much trouble.
(98.34 KB 1150x1150 THERMOQUAAAAD.jpg)

>>17796 I have no idea what things are like in your neck of the woods, but if you're just starting out, I'd recommend some sad old piece of shit with as few computers as possible. Electronic engine control can seem like black magic if you don't know what you're doing, and an older electronic system would invite the possibility of shit like obscure sensor XYZ breaking and giving you headaches trying to track it down. A carbureted engine has a lot less shit to break and really only needs one wire to run. Plus, when you go to tune it, you're actually swapping out and adjusting physical parts rather than typing in values on a table, which makes it much easier to conceptualize the changes you're making and understand how your adjustments are affecting how it runs. You can't really get more FOSS than a mechanical system, but as for an actual electronic system, there's one that I know of and that's Megasquirt.

>>17859 Gotcha, glad you got so many miles out of yours. Mine has around 200k kilometers and already burns a ton of oil, so a swap isn't too far away for me either. Those frm liners are killer. Getting a black plastic lip and refreshing the side plastic so it matches better is another option I've considered myself
>>17861 yes it is quite triggering it's only black on the sideskirts. mine got to the point that if I drove for 5 minutes it would smoke like shit and I'd burn a quart every 100 miles. Those engines are kinda expensive too it was almost 3000 dollars for the swap and over 4000 to rebuild

Automatic faggotry Driver 01/17/2019 (Thu) 07:51:38 Id: d37e2d No. 17608 [Reply] [Last]
Not gearboxes, because physical disability should not necessarily be an obstacle to driving. Pointless to anyone with the normal amount of functional limbs though… And rain-sensing wipers are good. If they could also automatically turn off the foglights they'd be great. *hits blunt* if wipers on every car could turn off the foglights automatically, that would be awesome. Automatic headlights? Can you not see how dark it is, or can you not see? f you need assistance that much, why not just get the bus? Shit like 'lane assist' or 'self parking' is only necessary if you have fuck all, or close to fuck all hand - eye coordination, spacial awareness and overall ability, in which case you should be on the variety club minibus sharing window spit. We're becoming too reliant on technology imo, and that will make us lazy and inattentive. When facing oncoming vehicle on a 60mph country road, I want that driver to be as awake and aware and in control as I am.

The biggest problem with automatic is that retards have less things to keep them busy on the road, and that most automatics aren't fun to drive.

Okay so I have this personal problem. Normally, each car has a set of colors that fit on it right? For example silver Mercedes' or a blue Impreza among the most obvious ones. But I can't for the life of me visualize the colors that fit the most on american cars. They all just look out of place, idk. Even colors like black or white, cause the old ones especially are huge barges where there's a lot of surface for the color to cover and it ends up looking like "too much color" (I know this sounds stupid). Dunno if this is just because I'm european or what but I would hope if american car enthusiasts would show me burgerbarges with good looking and fitting paintjobs.

>>17717 It looks mostly okay but I have a hard time thinking "Yeah, this color fits this car". It's just that this car is white. Mostly cause many other colors could look exactly as good on it as white, but never as good as something like white on a Mitsubishi.
>>17719 That looks pretty good. Any flat colour plus chrome looks ok.
>>17711 Deep/dark blues and reds always look the best on them in my opinion. Any color looks good on them though. Chrysler could get away with neon green, pink, purple, and orange. >you will never cruise across the country in 1970 in your late 60's big block Chevelle >drag racing at every light someone else pulls up to you >qt co-pilot to keep you company and congratulate your every win Why even live

Best Cars of Gran Turismo 6? Driver 02/21/2018 (Wed) 00:44:32 Id: 628e6b No. 15221 [Reply]
I'm trying to compile the best 40 cars of Gran Turismo 6 (roughly in order of performance) before the servers for the game go down in March. The 40 cars will be arranged in such a way that you can beat the entire game using just those, because they're at various PP categories. Rules for the list: >No prize cars >No dirty DLC cars or their equivalents >No General Motors cars >Avoid Autosport cars >Extra points if they were available in original GT1/GT2 games >Extra points if they're affordable (for when log-in bonuses and seasonals die) The list so far: >01. Honda Beat '92 >02. Mini Cooper '98 >03. Triumph Spitfire '74 >04. Mazda MX-5 '89 >05. Toyota 86 Racing '13 >06. Audi TT 1.8T Quattro '00
