Bought a 2001 Subaru Forester for $500 with a blown head gasket, probably will pull the engine out before changing the headgasket and timing belt, pulleys, etc. I'll probably get the heads resurfaced just for that extra piece of mind, anything else that I need to take into consideration? This is going to be my first serious project and I want to take the time to do the proper preparation and check my p's and q's before starting.

I have a 95 Dodge Dakota with a 318 magnum and a 5-spd. Since its my only rig, it has to double as my daily and weekend wheeler. After realizing buying another used vehicle would be a gamble (also there's no way in hell I can afford full coverage on a new rig), I figure I'm better off fixing the truck I have. Current problems: 3.21 axle gears 27 spline 8.25" rear and 7.25" IFS Hotspots on flywheel Input shaft bearing needs replaced Plenum gasket compromised, burning oil with the fuel and causing spark knock Fixing the transmission seems pretty straight forward as there are only OEM replacement parts but what about the rest of it? Do I buy a bare 360 block and build it for low-end? Do I use the 318 block I have? If I'm going to swap to an aftermarket intake manifold to eliminate the plenum issue, won't I have to replace piston rings? I can't keep it like it is and I can't get a different vehicle. But with the amount of work and money I would have to put into it in order to get it where I want it to be, there's no way I can come out of this on top financially.

>>18208 Gaskets are a simple fix even if you have to make yourself a gasket with RTV gasket maker if they no longer (or ever) had a replacement. Something that makes it a lot easier is having a tube squeezer since you can better control the application. >won't I have to replace piston rings? Why would you have to replace piston rings by adding a new intake manifold? If you were changing the head to one that provides higher compression or adding a super/turbo charger I could see the point in asking this, but otherwise it seems like a non-sequitur. Also why do you need to replace the engine? So far you've only listed transmission problems and a bad intake gasket, even if you had bad piston rings (which is the possible implication I'm getting from you saying you'd need to replace them for a manifold) that still shouldn't mean the engine needs replacing. Now if you just want 25+ HP and dogshit gas mileage in exchange the 360 will certainly give you that.

Mycarly odb to tweak for better mpg? Driver 05/10/2019 (Fri) 18:26:09 Id: c6d562 No. 18184 [Reply]
Mechanic was telling me that with Mycarly odb programming, he (or I) can change the Adaptation and/or modify the air to fuel ratio to get much more mpg out of the car. He said that on 2019 lexus nx300h it can be simply programmed and done (no parts and work needed) and undone when warranty service is needed (or smog). Is this true?
3 posts and 1 image omitted.
Yeah, you can lean out your air fuel mixture. You'll get better mpg, but also worse performance, worse cold starts, worse reliability due to high temps and knocking, etc. You really want better mpg you're better off shedding weight. An actual remap will give you negligible mpg improvements.
>>18187 Remember the shitstorm VW caused by them cheating on the environut test so they could get better fuel economy since the environut standards would result in WORSE fuel economy if they went along with it?
It is NOT true. That's not how obd devices work. You'll be able to read dtc and live data as well as configure settings and code for options, but engine mapping is not something you can change on a whim.

Headlight fluid Driver 03/14/2019 (Thu) 01:12:44 Id: 35246c No. 17870 [Reply]
Why is it so hard to buy headlight fluid at auto parts stores? Every time I go in and ask the guys behind the counter for headlight fluid they just laugh and insist it doesn't exist. It doesn't seem to matter where I go, the reaction is always the same. I just want to be able to use the antique motorcycle headlight I got from an estate sale. It looks like pic related. Has anyone else had problems finding specialty parts or fluids. I think there was a car from the 50s that required bottle of blue milk to run. I'm sure that's next to impossible to find these days, and any leftovers from back then are probably spoiled.

> I think there was a car from the 50s that required bottle of blue milk to run. Are you thinking of Oldsmobile's "Turbo Rocket Fuel" which was 50:50 methanol and water mix, used in the 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire (with turbocharged engine)?

…and at what age did you realize you will never own it? Pics very much related. NFS3 on the PS1 was my first game ever. It might have single-handedly made me into a car guy. And of course that yellow Diablo SV was always on my mind for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately with car prices skyrocketing <and the fact that I am a total fucking loser I realized that I'll never get the chance to have my very own SV. At this point I'm lucky na MR2s are relatively cheap, for now.

Faggots and cars Driver 12/06/2018 (Thu) 08:26:34 Id: 16e3fd No. 17395 [Reply]
Me and my sister regularly go to car shows during the months of March - November for the purpose of amateur photography, which we then sort and post to Flickr. The first two pics are a couple examples from last Summer. Other than us and toddlers/babies brought along for the ride, the next youngest person at these shows are typically in their early 40s, with most attending being Boomers. These are people who, aside from their determination at keeping a classic on the road, live their lives as conservatively as possible. Last week I was followed by someone called "Anita Desitter". I checked out their page and it's a literal tranny that takes photos of firetrucks and classic cars. This week a handful of my photos have been favorited by someone called Grady Cofer, Jr. and another who calls himself "Cricri Nikon Photography". Both of them clearly have a vested interest in cars, and most of their other faves are of beautiful women. The latter even has a fair share of tit and pussy pics. Yet I kept looking, and found out they have a thing for transfags too. Both of them have favorited 3rd pic related. Who honestly thinks this horsefaced freak is any way physically attractive? Hell, I even looked at /cuteboys/ catalog once to see what it was all about, and one of the biggest threads there is about cars. No doubt some of you post there too. So please, pray tell, why are fags and fag-enablers so interested in cars or at least, car photography?

Photography is basic bitch hobby and also the most pretentious-bastard-enabling. "Oh, I like what I'm seeing right now, better capture it with a camera that costed 8k because I'm extra like that." Nice Skyline btw

Buy a hardtop or a 4th gen convertible. Roll bars will stick out nevertheless cause the exterior line is straight.

>>17949 Oh I hope convertibles aren't your thing if you got the RF! Though that deal you got plus the package is telling you've had a bargain. I believe you're in the US and as such there isn't anything else you could have gotten for that price and these specs.
>>17951 Shit, not a bad deal then. I'm waiting til the first '19s come off their 2 year leases and snatch one for hopefully sub $15k, assuming the engines prove to be as reliable as the old 1.8s do long term. I'm maybe a week from rolling over 150k on my '96 and she runs like a top.
>>17952 >>17954 Never been a massive fan of convertibles, so the RF is just what I was after. I'm sure every now and then I'll retract the roof for shits and giggles, but it's definitely not going to be a common occurrence. From my understanding, there are only 110 Limited Edition (LE) models that were released here, so it really was a steal. It's basically the RF GT model with 17-inch BBS alloy wheels, the Brembo brake pack, Bilstein shocks with revised springs, a more aerodynamic body styling kit (which is quite modest but looks really aesthetic), a strut tower brace and Recaro seats. I'm pretty sure our LE is the RS version that Japan got.
