Shelby Charger/GLHS, Daytona, Turismo, and L bodies Driver 06/12/2017 (Mon) 23:53:04 Id: 7501ec No. 13439 [Reply]
Friend just got back from overseas. Wants to buy an older car as a daily driver and as a hobby and he asked for my help not so much because of my mechanical expertise but because he's a babby and had a car thats not his mom's 2008 impala or a humvee. He asked me what I thought about the "shelby charger". Apparently thats an 80s subcompact…dodge charger that was built with the direct consultation of…Carroll Shelby. So I'm pretty fucking confused. Anybody know anything about these cars? I haven't been able to find much? I tried talking him into something similar but more common like a datsun or a foxbody but he seems really set on it.

Are the European standards what's making them all ugly, electronics-filled, and all but getting rid of the traditional regular cab? >>14148 I already have a truck, am not in the market nor living condition apartment complex for getting another one, just discussing. Luckily I live in idaho so old vehicles are in great shape unless the owner actively breaks it. Mine looks practically brand new despite being 14 years old and used by the previous owner as a work truck at a gravel pit.
>>14161 Look at the fucking Citroën C4 Cactus. Or the Opel Adam. Or even the Renault Captur. These shits are the regular rides in Europe and are electronic-filled hatchback pseudo-crossover trash. When a European thinks about a pickup truck, he thinks big, wide and useless flatbed. When a European buys a pickup truck, he never uses the cargo bay, he just drives it. So yeah, he cannot comprehend why there's no space for their children/coworkers in the back in a double cabin. And as the American brands are the top sellers in pickup trucks, they come to the European and foreign markets with their smaller trucks saying >hey we have them like you want them! And they don't make the regular single cab, small engine pickup truck because cost productions.

Carshopping and regrets Driver 06/07/2017 (Wed) 17:46:21 Id: 866569 No. 13388 [Reply]
Well after 3 months my new car is officially totaled. honestly that thing was getting on my nerves and I was starting to hate it, but still it was my first car that I actually bought with my own money and got a loan for and shit. Also I can't go anywhere now and can't work so that kinda sucks. 6k I'm on the hook for and might still have to pay a good chunk depending how bad the insurance tries to jew me on the "value" of the car. I didn't even want that car though. 6k is more than I've ever spent on anything in my life, granted it was really the bank's 6k but with 6k I could take care of pretty much other problem in my life for the foreseeable future and move forward from this shitkicking paycheck to paycheck hell I live in now. If I was gonna spend 6k on anything else, my standards would be impeccably high/ I guess I'm just bitter. For 6k I could have bought my dream car in running project condition. The short time I had this car I was constantly irritated by all the inconveniences and problems caused by owning a "new" car (it was a 2007, much newer than anything I've ever owned). Everything being tied to electrical and computer systems. Battery draining, annoying beeper when I wasn't buckled, auto safety locks. Some of the things were just poor design cuz it was a goddamn saturn (the battery is in the trunk, which is opened remotely by the keys which is useless with a dead battery, but can be opened manually with the keys, except the keys lock in the ignition upon trying to turn over the engine with a dead battery. You can fold down the rear seats to access the trunk, but to do so you must pull two pins, located inside the trunk.) I'm sick of cars that might as well run on magic with arbitrary designs and intentionally user-unfriendly. I'm not handy but I want to be but I can't do shit if everything in a car has to do with electronics or computers. Why shouldn't I buy an oldass car with a good frame and low mileage?

>>13622 You think my garbage can has it easy? I often drive on dirt roads, winter lasts from october to march, and wheel arches often get hit with storms of sand/rock from driving on those dirt roads at 100km/h. Baltics have to learn rallydriving not in schools, but on the road. Such is life here. So i just assume Burgerland manufacturers just gave up rust protection after 95'? Btw, the secret to rust prevention is adding some acid to paint. So the metal reacts to the acid, thus forming strong and stable chamical bonds, rather than air, which just makes some weak-ass oxide known as rust. I know there are paint shops here that offer such a thing and it actualy works. Can easily give any car +10 years of life.
>>13626 The paint on my 94 Grand Prix is still in amazing shape. They used metallic paint and it aged well. I wish I could say the same for the shit hard plastics inside. The bumpers have a little sun rot, but it's only on the folds. I'd take a photo, but my cars in the shop. Some prick rear ended me a few weeks ago. I was shocked that my car was hardly dented at all. It moved the trunk up half an inch. The bumper was fine, the lights were fine and trunk shuts. The rental I have is a real bitch. I knew the pillars of modern cars were bad, but I had no idea how bad it really was. So many blind spots. I fucking hate it.
>>13388 A round of applause for making a bad decision in the first place.

Back just in time to be ruined by disgusting high belt lines and have all the HP soaked up by feature bloat. I wonder how long before the Mustang, Camaro, and Charger/Challenger are reduced to a shit choice between FWD and "AWD" consisting of a rear drive tacked onto the FWD model. And how long before the Camaro's windshield/windows disappear entirely into the body.

Just bought a 1983 Camaro Z28, previous owner swapped out the stock 305 V8 with a 350 SBC bored out 0.020. With an Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley DP 750 CFM carb, and short pipe headers coupled with an Eaton 3.73 posi in the rear end, she goes. I think the third gen cars are really underrated as far as cheap platforms go for "pony cars". Looking at the new Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro, and Ford Mustang, its hard to imagine how much HP they're able to put out nowadays from factory cars.

You may have seen the old one floating around. It's pretty wrong in many places and is missing a lot of good cars. This thread is for making a new one with input from everyone. Pic related is the old one. I'd like to use similar categories for describing each car, but have a full set of options for each category from each continent. There might be too many to fit in one graph with that setup, so maybe we could do a separate graph for each continent. A better template could also be had. Maybe I'll get that done in the next couple weeks. I don't know about much else. For now lets just discuss what cars to put into each category (I would like to modify those slightly as well). Suggested categories (three from each continent, if possible; in no particular order): compact econoboxes (example: honda civic) mid-size econoboxes (example: toyota camry) hot hatches (example: ford focus svt) sport coupes (example: honda prelude) station wagons/estates (example: volvo v70) compact/mid size luxury sedan (example: lexus ES) full size luxury sedan (example: lexus LS) poorfag (example: toyota echo) japanese trucks (because the only big ones they made are too new. example: nissan hardbody) american trucks (example: F-150)

>>13579 Well if you drive a car A the same way as you drive car B, they are very damn likely to have the same gas consumption. Also Civic is supposed to be a econobox student hatch, unlike the Accord.

>>13577 Plates are state by states. Most states down south care about freedom more and let you not dill holes in your car. It's not the case where I am since my state is communist. I said I'd just not put the plate on, but I'm told I'll get pulled over daily for it. It's fucking stupid. You spend 26k+ on a car and ruin the front with an ugly tin plate and before a few years ago they would drill fucking holes in the bumper. I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I plan on saving like crazy. I have loans to pay off, but I can manage that and get a car. It's why I'm going to wait till next summer. By then I should know what I want…I hope. Its fun, till now I didn't have a real job so I could never think about getting a car.
>>13578 Can't it just be zip tied in the grille? It's not like a rear plate that has lights and shit, as long as it's securely fastened and not obscured shouldn't that get a pass? I went and got my front plate rack, as we still get them, but they're in a little bag in the trunk, and it's a monstrosity, like, as wide as an euro plate and seems to mount in the fucking PAINTED PART of the bumper with HUGE half-inch wide well-nuts. If I had to have one, I'd definitely go with an aftermarket solution that mounts in the tow hook threads. Like http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/grimmspeed-plate-relocation-199.html#.WVw-YHXythE But if you're buying used the damage will already be done.
>>13580 I see that one a lot on those cars. Some get unlucky and they drill holes on that plastic part of the BRZ. I see very few FRS and 86 around here for some reason so I can't say for sure I could zip tie it on. We just have a very ugly plate that stands out like crazy
