wow, gamergate in 2024. this is pathetic
>>20035 It’s not over ‘til WE say it’s over.
>>20035 Not as pathetic as the faggots who still treat it as their Holocaust and the (Hello, I just arrived from Cuckchan, please bully me)s who still believe at journos's obvious, debunked lies about Gamergate
Not complaining, I'm just curious why this thread was moved here? I thought you guys mostly discuss the political side of gaming?
From the other board: Seeing the backlash against their plans, leftist as usual are just doing the same thing with a different name, "Real diversity has never been tried", "Right wingers ruined everything" A few notable example: - University: https://archive.ph/Sfin2 https://www.oudaily(Please use archive.today)/news/ou-diversity-equity-inclusion-change-name-access-opportunity/article_b2cd53e0-d030-11ee-bb8f-2705fc3d88a8.html - Business policy: https://archive.is/KtGX6 https://jedicollaborative(Please use archive.today)/ - Industry policy: https://archive.ph/h06A1 https://www.mattinglysolutions(Please use archive.today)/post/re-naming-dei-focus-on-the-work-not-what-it-s-called Just to name a few. There's probably something similar in the work for gaming companies, but at the same time "AAA" companies can for the most part die and no value will be lost. One of the new names they're trying is "Bridge" (Belonging, representation, inclusion, diversity and equity, “the g is the gap in all those things”): https://archive.ph/TDXXh Also, copying from the Kadokawa thread: >>>/v/934592 (934315) >The big two is that ESG is being replaced with "Stakehold metrics" and DEI is being repalced with "Equity and Restorative Justice". However, they are attempting all manner of replacement terms: https://archive.ph/tjkpS >This is but a small list of some of them: <Accountable commitments/business/investing <Adverse impacts <All/marginalized/under represented/undocumented businesses/citizens/communities/companies/demographics/groups/human beings/people/values <Challenges facing humanity/our planet <Changing climates <Climate accounting/belonging <Collective actions <Cultural/institutional/systemic changes/economics/priorities <Decarbonization <Degrowth <Ecological accounting <Energy transition <Environmental work <Evolving markets <Fair business/investing/economics/outcomes <Global imbalances/prosperity <(Corporate) Governance (Just added this one) <Green economy <Harmful/hateful actions <Holistic contribution/environments/management/marketing <Inclusive/Reformed/Stakeholder Capitalism <Infrastructure development <Integral human development/well-being <Inviting businesses/communities/companies/cultures <Limited growth <Measurable actions <Moral imperatives <More inclusive <Ongoing commitments <Organization challenges/culture/belonging <Performance outcomes <Polarized environments/communities <Positive impacts/discrimination

Particularly I heard about this happening to air traffic controllers.
>>22366 >Particularly I heard about this happening to air traffic controllers. The funny thing is that air traffic is actually one of the things that do need to go, at least in it's current format. Every other country has reduced much of the headroom needed for those positions thanks to advancements with cameras and other forms of detection. However the U.S. is still effectively stuck in the stone age because of unions and government regulations.
>>22367 Oh, lmao. So it was justified and my lefty family was just giving me the liberal version of the story as usual. I've also heard about air traffic control being scheduled for an overhaul anyways from them, so it all lines up.
In meta news, since this isn't /v/ and I can say this here, Mark and Coyote constantly, and rather pointlessly, editing of posts to make (Deleted) posts totally unviewable is causing a memory leak, and I have to regularly close and reopen the GG thread before my browser locks up.

To post some "recent" news from the last bread: An Anon may get the chance to ask Yuji Hori some question, provide him with suggestions on what to ask:>>>/v/1073976 In case you're wondering why this is important, Yuji is considered a rock star in Japan and his name is almost synonymous with vidya over there. >End of an era: Microsoft to shut down Skype, shifting users to Teams, 14 years after $8.5B deal https://archive.is/Faa7g <Microsoft confirmed Friday that it is officially retiring Skype in May and consolidating its consumer communication services into Microsoft Teams. Skype users will be able to migrate to Teams by logging into Teams with their Skype credentials to access their chats and contacts. Those who do not migrate can export their Skype data, according to a blog post from Microsoft. >What Elon Musk's war on federal workers owes to Gamergate https://archive.is/rKC8A <The first lesson of Gamergate was the propaganda value of bad faith, reinforced by endless repetition. Gamergaters were motivated primarily by two grievances: that feminists were criticizing sexism in video games and, crucially, that these same feminists seemed to have more sex than the Gamergaters. This is no exaggeration. The whole campaign first started as targeted harassment of a female (now non-binary) video game developer whose bitter ex-boyfriend riled up a mob against her by telling them she had sex with lots of men. It soon spread to target other outspoken feminists, especially those who criticized video games, but the underpinning of sexual jealousy was always present. <Gamergaters realized quickly that outsiders would not be sympathetic to their real complaint, which was, "How dare women who have sex more than me make me feel bad about my sexist video games?" Instead, they invented a claim that female game developers were exchanging sex with male journalists for good reviews. It wasn't true, but "ethics in journalism" was credible-sounding enough to trick gullible journalists into writing stories that cast Gamergate in a more sympathetic light than the misogynist witch hunt deserved. <... <The recruitment strategy to build this crowd of haters comes straight from Gamergate: Appeal to people by enticing them to take their insecurities out on your chosen scapegoat. With Gamergate, young men were encouraged to redirect their sexual frustrations and social anxieties away from useful projects like self-improvement and toward bellowing hate non-stop at a group of women who were turned into symbols of everything the Gamergaters feared they would never have: fulfilling jobs, active sex lives and cool haircuts. And that's everything I can find that vidya and goober related.

After being considered "too sexy" for Steam Western releases on the Switch, Tokyo Clanpool was allowed to released on GoG however in a censored format. The publisher is currently looking to release an "uncensored" patch, but it will have to be distributed offsite.
>>22380 Hunie Pop had the best solution: to uncensor the game place an empty file with a certain name in a certain directory and off you go. That way there is nothing to distribute and nothing needs to be modified.
Here's an interesting article that came across my feed. Here’s Why There Is A Disconnect Between The Games Industry And Gamers https://archive.ph/C9dUC >Gaming Isn’t Really Paid For By Gamers <To explain, game budgets are important for two reasons: the first is how much is spent, and the second, and the often overlooked reason, is where that investment comes from. <Most gamers assume that their money goes into a game publisher’s vault filled with money, where execs dive into mountains of gold coins and then use that money to develop new games. <The reality is that as of a decade or so ago, publishers have looked more and more for outside investment. That means the investors for new games aren’t gamers but external and often invisible organizations, and sometimes wealthy individuals, who are paying the bill. <These external investors act as the money layer for publishers and often have close to zero public visibility or accountability. A good example of this is what happened to Embracer Group when a major investor pulled out, causing mass layoffs. <This kind of thing has been happening globally, too, with Japan and Asia being equally affected. The main difference is that in Asia, these layoffs have been kept mostly secret, except for a few instances, as games industry analyst Serkan Toto explains. <“Contrary to popular belief, the wave has spilled over to Asia, too. The layoff data regularly mentioned in media in the West only reflects a small portion of people affected in places like Japan, Korea, and China. In Japan, where labor laws strongly protect employees, some studios try to push staff out via driving people to retirement or straight-up bullying them, taking on fewer college graduates or silently conducting hiring freezes.” <This is also where the size of the budget becomes an issue. During the PlayStation 2 era, most game publishers tended to be more self-financed, with a more direct relationship to their customers regarding where the money came from as the budgets were lower. Once the madness of AAA started in the following Xbox 360 era, the budgets ballooned, and the disconnect with customers began. <Much of the stored capital from the previous PlayStation 2 era paid for this AAA folly, but it still resulted in the closure of hundreds of game studios. <When I started writing about this problem a decade ago, I hoped publishers would return to being more financially sensible and realize that AAA was not viable long-term. Instead, they doubled down on AAA games but had spent most of their stored capital by that point, resulting in having to look for more outside investment. >Layoffs, Layoffs, And Even More Layoffs <Now that these big, decade-long game development bets have not paid off, these external investors understandably want their money back. As a result, publishers have used money that would normally go to pay developers making their games to pay off these investors. <The result is that development studios either go bankrupt or lay off many people to survive, while publishers hoard the remaining cash and try to downsize, although to a much more limited degree. <This is why, to date, we’ve seen around 25,000 layoffs between 2023 and 2024, and the situation is likely to get much worse. Moreover, those are the only layoffs we know about, and the number is likely much higher. In Japan, this kind of thing has been handled far more quietly, but it is also happening on a similarly large scale. <To give that 25,000 figure some context, the Xbox 360-era studio closures measured in the hundreds. Most decent-sized studios back then were about 100-150 people strong. That means these new layoffs are equivalent to thousands of studios going under. What we are now seeing is an order of magnitude greater than what happened the last time AAA games failed, and that’s where the real danger lies in the long term. <The other major issue is that many of these layoffs have not been carefully planned. Instead, those with the highest salaries have tended to be cut first. These salaries are high because those people are the most capable and experienced. As Swen Vincke, the head of Larian Studios, pointed out, this loss of institutional knowledge is not a trivial matter, especially as it is now industry-wide. >Indie Games Aren’t Even Indie <Some have argued that indie games are a self-sustainable fallback from the aftermath of AAA, but unfortunately, that’s not really the case. <A lot of modern indie games are not independently funded, which means they still need outside investment. As external investors are widely withdrawing from gaming worldwide, it again falls to publishers to fund these games. <These being the same publishers that got us into this AAA mess in the first place and are now trying to survive by hoarding what cash they have left. <Yes, there are games made by one or two people and then get self-published. These do exist, but there aren’t enough of them to sustain gaming on their own. <Our current situation has also been fallaciously equated to the massive games industry crash of the 80s, and gaming back then rebounded just fine. The difference at that time was that most games cost very little to make, so a rebound was possible. <Gaming is a far more complex landscape now, and a “small” game still often costs an awful lot more to make, so the rebound isn’t quite so straightforward this time around. >Gaming Needs More Diversity, Just Not In The Way You Think <With all these layoffs and the hollowing out of game development teams across the world, the future of gaming looks bleak. <... <The games industry is in a similar state. In broader economic terms, it’s a relatively small system, and its structure lacks many built-in redundancies. <Massive developer layoffs are the first pathway to fail, and now publishers are feeling the strain and hoarding resources to survive whatever comes next. However, without developers making games to generate revenue for said publishers, this pathway will also fail in due course. <Put simply, instead of spending $100 million on one game, we need to go back to spending $10 million on 10 games. That way, you have a better chance of making your money back. You also learn 10 times the amount about the market that way, so it’s not all about straight profit, either. <Demand and revenue generation are still huge in gaming, but publishers need to be more diverse in the size and numbers of bets they place. <Gaming will always be a hit business, so instead of relying on one over-stressed pathway, diversify and build more. That way, when one or more pathways fail, the others can take up the slack. <This setup worked during the PlayStation 2 era and can work again, especially since the Switch is driving much of the mid-tier game development now. <This also ties into my theory that games are a kind of cognitive firmware. There’s no such thing as a game for everyone, only for each and every one. This was exemplified by the variety of the PlayStation 2’s software library, and that your collection of games is likely entirely different from mine. <In short, spending less individually on games and making more cheaper functionally diverse games is the way out of this mess. >A Changing Of The Guard <One of the other reasons for the disconnect with the gaming audience at the publisher level, apart from where the investment comes from, is that a lot of execs at big publishers just don’t play or like games. <That means they don’t understand what they are selling, which is equivalent to someone who can’t read working in a literary publisher. <Publishers really need to be reorganized and restructured. What’s required are smaller, leaner, and more agile publishers that focus on the mid-tier budgets that were the mainstay of the PlayStation 2 era, before the AAA nightmare derailed everything. <Not to mention that one of the main reasons for cost overruns in the current publishing model is that executives at publishers ask for top-down changes to games they haven’t played, which upends the production process and creates costly delays and ballooning budgets. <Smaller publishers staffed by people who actually play games and who are focused more on distribution and backend submission support, such as certification testing and localization, would negate many of these costly top-down decisions. <The good news is that we are beginning to see more of these types of publishers pop up. However, what happens next is really up to the current publishers causing all these layoffs in development. <If they finally abandon this clearly unsustainable AAA madness and return to something that has already been proven to work, we may have a chance at salvaging gaming. Otherwise, the future of the medium is most certainly a precarious one.

>‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Director Says Japanese Devs “Now Create With A Global Audience Mind From The Very Start”, Confirms Games Subjected To “Thorough Ethical Reviews Tailored To Different Regions” https://archive.is/vNzuv <Hamaguchi, who was promoted from his role as the co-director of Remake to the director of the trilogy’s remaining entries following original Final Fantasy VII co-creator Tetsuya Nomura’s decision to take a more relaxed position in the series’ production, provided this insight into his home nation’s current approach to game development while speaking to the official Sony blog following Rebirth‘s recent Grand Award win at the 2024 Japan Asia PlayStation Partner Awards. <Asked by his hosts as to “What factors do you consider when designing a game for a wide global audience?”, the Square Enix veteran opined, “There are so many elements that go into game development. From the story to every little detail in the game’s presentation, we conduct thorough ethical reviews tailored to different regions. Taking the time and resources to ensure our work doesn’t become a source of negativity for anyone is essential in today’s world.” <“Back when the original Final Fantasy VII was released, it was primarily created for the Japanese market, and its global reach expanded as it gained recognition,” explained the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy lead programmer. “But today, rather than first prioritizing the Japanese market and letting the game’s reach grow organically, we now create with a global audience in mind from the very start. In that sense, we are in a completely different era.” <“As Japanese creators, we naturally develop the game in Japanese first before translating it into other languages,” he added. “During localization, we sometimes adjust phrasing to better fit different cultural contexts. However, this is a delicate process — players who have a deep respect and strong feelings for the original work often notice even the slightest differences between the Japanese and translated versions and ask why certain changes were made. It’s a challenge we constantly navigate in game creation.” <To this end, when later asked if he had advice for fledgling video game designers, Hamaguchi asserted, “I strongly encourage them to step out into the world and continue generating new ideas. It’s important not to limit your perspective to the values or market of your own country.” <“Maintaining a broad perspective will become even more crucial for creativity in the generations to come,” he added. “While it’s ideal to travel and experience the world firsthand, we are fortunate to live in an era where content and entertainment are easily accessible. There are countless opportunities to broaden your perspective and absorb new ideas. Always set your sights on competing on a global stage, and I hope that together, we can contribute to the growth and expansion of Japan’s entertainment worldwide.” Post pics because they're related to the subject of the article.

>GOP Texas bill could jail you for owning or watching Goblin Slayer and more https://archive.is/dRmkf <The new bill would purportedly make it a crime to own a multitude of popular Japanese manga – including Goblin Slayer, Fruits Basket, and many others. The office of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick posted in support of the bill right after it passed the Senate, and will soon head to the governor’s office to be signed. <The bill in question is Senate Bill 20. Sponsored by GOP senator Pete Flores, the bill, in its own words, “creates a new state offense for the possession or promotion of obscene material that appears to depict a child younger than 18 years old, regardless of whether the depiction is of an actual child, cartoon or animation, or an image created using an artificial intelligence application or other computer software.” <Furthermore, subparagraph c of the bill states: “An offense under this section is a state jail felony,” directing first-time offenders convicted under this law to a minimum of five years in prison, simply for owning or viewing such material. <As many responses have pointed out, many popular manga would be banned in Texas if this law is signed into law, which certainly seems like it will at this point. Goblin Slayer is the example many are pointing to, due to the infamous assault scenes of characters by goblins in the early issues. <But even tamer manga’s like Fruits Basket could be criminalized under this law, depending on how broad a judge or state prosecutor wishes to interpret “sexual acts” in a court of law. Only children’s manga’s such as Pokémon and Sailor Moon seem to be safe under a literal reading of the law. Reminder that The Miller Tests, the "official rule" that determines what is considered "obscene" in the U.S., is in the same position as Roe v. Wade. As it is not a law in any capacity whatsoever. It's just a legistlative act that was developed out of thin air. And ever created by the very same SCOTUS justice who established RvW in the first fucking place.

>>22433 All things considered, the law would not survive a federal legal challenge. Undoubtedly, the Circuits may surely try to legislate by their gavel - which is a problem in itself; but I doubt that Roberts or the majority of his colleagues would allow Texas to continue to enforce such a law. It is very clearly a 1st Amendment violation.

>>22432 MASSIVE update on this: >>>/site/10103 >Beginning on January 1st, several countries and US States had laws go into effect concerning AI generated porn. Think like the law currently being debated in Texas, except there's already 12 States that passed it, and many, many countries. This snuck up on us, as it wasn't widely reported in any free-speech channels and we never saw much protest or other dust kicked up that would draw attention to it. Most of these laws are surface aimed at Deepfake images used for harassment purposes, but several, like the one in Texas, also pose a serious threat to the existence of *any and all* fictional content that so much as resembles a minor. The retardation that we saw years ago in Australia went International, and nobody was the wiser until it was already in effect all over.

>30 Years Ago, The Grandfather Of Game Journalism Told 2D Fighting Game Fans To "Get A Life" https://archive.ph/R6kWH Attached image is the full thing, but here's just a sliver of the rant: <My point is that you pathetic individuals who spent years of your life mastering these goofy commands on fighting games need to Get A Life. <It's time to kick this genre in the head. Admit it; you spent years learning a skill that serves absolutely no use whatsoever in the real world. In the old days, players who mastered Space Invaders and Pac-Man at least learned pattern recognition. What have you idiots learned? A bunch of non-standard fatalities and babalities and clayalities, and you're all no better off than you were when you started. Move on. <Move out of your momma's home. Learn to try other types of games. At least move into three dimensions with Virtua Fighter or Toshinden. Try sims, sports games, RPGs; just try something other than an interconnected series of spastic twitches, signifying nothing (Street Fighter Alpha is not an option). <Grow the hell up. In the future, try doing things like reading the works of Chinese philosophers or viewing the cinematic ontput of John Woo. Simply understand that you were seduced by an over-hyped, two-dimensional genre and move beyond this point.
The news about AssCreed Shadows is such a fiasco that even regular news sources are picking up on it: https://archive.ph/qLAmk >Europe games industry on edge as 'Assassin's Creed' hits shelves <Thursday's release of action-adventure epic "Assassin's Creed Shadows" marks a make-or-break moment not just for struggling French games heavyweight Ubisoft, but for the entire European gaming ecosystem. <With its almost 18,000 employees and global footprint, Ubisoft has nevertheless suffered one setback after another in recent years with disappointing releases, a dwindling stock price, harassment allegations against former bosses and repeated strikes. <The company is falling back on its longtime major money-spinner "Assassin's Creed" to pull it from the doldrums, this time with an episode set in medieval Japan. <"I've never seen things this way" as the whole European industry looks to Ubisoft, Midcap Partners analyst Charles-Louis Planade told AFP ahead of the launch. <More than 17 Ubisoft studios employing hundreds have poured five years of work into "Shadows", with an estimated budget running into hundreds of millions of euros. <... <He said a poor sales showing could provoke a knock-on effect across the entire industry, noting that in France alone, Ubisoft accounts for almost one-third of the country's 15,000 jobs in games development <Many budding creators pass through Ubisoft after completing their training, while former employees have founded new studios in France and around the world. <... <Ubisoft shares had fallen almost 5.6% on Wednesday to trade at 12.60 euros by the time markets closed, despite the good early reviews for "Shadows". <Even before release of the hoped-for blockbuster, Ubisoft said it was "actively exploring various strategic and capitalistic options" for its future. <Early rumours suggested that could involve going private with help from Chinese tech giant Tencent, a major investor that holds 10% of Ubisoft. <More recently, multiple outlets have reported the group could sell off much of its games catalogue to focus on its core titles. <"Every option is on the table" for Ubisoft's future, Planade said, with commercial success for "Shadows" likely to strengthen Ubisoft's hand in the negotiations.

>Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii says political correctness has made western games ‘terrible’ https://archive.ph/Di9UI <Oshii: Political correctness started from the idea of giving legitimacy to the socially weak. There is nothing wrong with that. In a mature society, it is a natural responsibility. However, the problem is that it has taken that as its starting point and made the socially weak into the strong. <Oshii: They were given priority in getting into school, and priority in finding a job. What’s more, the companies that advised them charged them ridiculous amounts in consulting fees. Game companies ask for hundreds of millions of yen from them. <Oshii: Basically, it’s based on admiration! If you deny admiration, entertainment loses its reason for existence as entertainment. In the past, even if you said “beautiful” people would say it was discriminatory. Western games are really terrible, political correctness

The actual reason for the mod being banned immediately was because the creator put a lot of political messaging in the comments and that obviously triggered people in the hugbox. Probably caused an ave of reports right away, like how if you go on Reddit and post something aggressive right-wing, you’re going to be immediately identified as a Nazi and the hugbox ill move instantly to smash the fash etc. Being “inflammatory” is exactly the reason why the mod took it down, that’s not a lie at all. >>39842 Why is this thread not on /v/?
>>39969 It’s not a matter of belief. Most people who go to church don’t believe in God, they go because that’s what decent high-status people do. No one actually believes in the woke stuff except a small subset of true believers, but that’s not the point. The point is, wokeism is a part of ruling / prevailing power axis in society — leftism / liberalism. When you argue against woke stuff you aren’t dealing with wokeism you’re dealing with the entire “team” or “side” of leftism in general. You actually know this, but the dance requires you do pretend otherwise. Everyone who lives in Nazi Germany were Nazis, everyone who lived in the USSR were Communists. It’s just the way power dynamics work in society. In reality the “right” is almost completely pushed out of the mainstream; you would NOT be proclaiming your anti-woke stance in public, you can only do that anonymously. Again, you know this already. Please think about it a little more.

Nolonger gender changes anything but instead the ORIGIN you choose has those differences of what you had before. >Well the thing is if you choose the FIRST origin the game thinks you are male and if you choose the SECOND one it thinks you are female. So it treats your gender depending on the origin you choose. >ORIGIN = Your gender choice for how the game treats your character.

Posting here because this applies to a much wider scope than 3D design. The following documentary explores how for-profit creative tools have become a barrier to artists in areas of both development of skills and production. Perhaps the part of "means of production" people don't want to talk about is that if you want community owned tools then the community needs to develop and maintain those tools. Whether you are a developer, an artist, or a consoomer, you need to support open projects where you can. Developers need to contribute to open projects. Otherwise everybody loses. Especially in the age of AI slop and websites that are using subscription models for absolute garbage "services". You fags probably don't need to hear it but the message needs to be echoed so people are shamed and guilted into supporting open, free projects that enable entire industries to thrive. Gamergate Wins: Leftist Video Game Journalists Face Buyouts And Mass Layoffs archive.ph/fBYwJ >Beyond those conservatives and libertarians in the alternative media that were warning about the invasion of woke ideology for many years, the very first group of "(Hello, I just arrived from Cuckchan, please bully me)s" to recognize the progressive threat to their subculture was gamers. And, to their credit, they brought attention to the issue in a more effective way than the alternative media ever did. The conservative sphere has always dismissed video games, movies, and the hobby game world as "stuff for kids" and this was a fatal error. Instead of standing guard and keeping leftists away from the kids, the cultural Marxists were allowed to run rampant throughout the media industry. They effectively blitzed the space and within a five year period they took over almost everything the west sees and hears from movies to games to comics and commercials. >They did have extensive help, though. Through ESG programs, government agencies,NGOs and international conglomerates used vast amounts of cash to manipulate every aspect of media and incentivize the spread of woke ideology. The meaning of ESG (Economic, Social, Governance) is meaningless and doesn't explain at all what it actually does. At bottom, ESG was about progressive dominance of the cultural conversation. Their strategy was to saturate media with leftist talking point to create the perception of false consensus. To make the majority of people believe that most people are in support of far-left politics, and that there's something wrong with you if you're not also onboard. Even some feminists called out the campaign as malicious. redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=YMw39meKmzY >In terms of video gaming, the industry is far larger and far more pervasive than movies and television. It's not surprising that leftists sought to target games first with feminist propaganda, anti-masculinity propaganda, anti-west propaganda, DEI, CRT, etc. Gamers were not enthusiastic and they took to social media to expose the takeover. First and foremost, Gamergate called out gaming journalists and their extreme bias in favor of woke ideology, not to mention their open disdain for young men and the male-centric foundation of gaming in general. Gaming journalists lorded over a tiny niche market of news and commentary but they exploited associations with the wider corporate media to spread disinformation. They used this influence in tandem with leftist activists to attack any game company that was not conforming to the woke message. This was the beginning of "cancel culture" - It largely started within the games business. Gamers also called out the ideological hijacking of games in general, including forced diversity standards, the "uglyfication" of female characters and the addition of obesity activism, the incessant use of gay and trans propaganda and the injection of leftist messaging within storylines often aimed at young children, etc. >Gamergate was attacked relentlessly for simply telling the truth: That gaming was being colonized by progressive activists who hate games, who hate gamers, and who only wanted to use gaming as a vehicle to deliver DEI brainwashing to the masses. At first, the media claimed that this was a conspiracy theory and there was no leftist agenda. Then, when they were fully exposed, they admitted there was an agenda but claimed it's a "good agenda" and anyone who opposes it is a sexist, racist fascist. Most of the culture war simply involved making the public aware of the leftist intrusion and the money behind it. Once that became widely known fact, the activists were fighting a losing battle. Today, Gamergate has officially won the culture war as gaming journalists face mass layoffs in the midst of industry buyouts. >Polygon, a media company founded in 2012 that is notorious for its leftist crusades against gamers, has been sold to Valnet, owner of Game Rant and a host of other publication. The company has subsequently been gutted. Most of the journalists involved along with the editor-in-chief are departing or they are being fired. This follows a series of layoffs within the industry of some of the most vile feminist journalists ever to pretend to play games. Many have taken to social media to e-beg for cash from followers, beg for work from other outlets, and complain about how they will now have to get real jobs in retail and service. It's hard to imagine a more fitting end for a group that tried to ruin the lives of so many for the sake of political supremacy. >It should be noted that the surge in media layoffs in recent months follows the shutdown of funds flowing from government agencies like USAID. It's hard to say if there's a connection, but if DOGE delivered the finishing death blow it's only because these organizations already lost millions of readers through through their own arrogance. And yet, to this day most of the activists involved in the bloodletting still refuse to acknowledge the real reasons why they are so despised. They blame the economic climate, though, there are numerous gaming advocates on YouTube and elsewhere that are wildly successful. The market is there, it just doesn't want Polygon and its peers. Other activist journalists blame a climate of "racism and sexism" for the death of their platforms. They still haven't learned; this is the attitude of zealotry that put them in the crosshairs of gamers to begin with. At bottom, leftists in the gaming world tried to fight and defeat the free market, and they lost. The culture war is now nearing an end. The death of woke is ringing like funeral bells. Gamers should be applauded for enduring years of slander and playing a key role in winning the fight.

And in case you think companies are just brushing this off: >Bandai Namco is making its executives’ salaries more dependent on how they perform archive.ph/Wy4ML <The fixed, base salary of Bandai’s executives will be capped at around $4.14 million per year in total, and a portion of it will go into a shareholding plan to purchase company stock. On the other hand, bonuses will depend on how well Bandai Namco meets targets related to profits, EPS (earnings per share), and sustainability. If performance goals aren’t met, executives may get no bonus at all. The total amount of bonus payments will be capped at either $4.14 million or 1.5% of net income attributable to shareholders for the year (whichever is lower). Basically, Bamco is going to force executives and manages to meet certain "sustainability" goals or they don't receive their bonus payments.

Figured this is worth posting here because it is a MAJOR issue that people are not aware of, meaning you can bet your ass that people will be using this as an attempt to push their ideologies: >System of Emperor as Symbol of the State: Place Highest Priority on Maintaining Imperial Lineage / Don’t Rule out Women, Female-line Emperors archive.ph/nsoYq The rest of the article is really not worth reading, in case you're wondering. Much of it just comes across as bitching about "Muh soggy kneews" more than anything else. <It is the wish of many people that the Imperial family, which has preserved and passed on Japanese traditions and culture and has always reached out to the people, should continue to exist. <However, the decrease in the number of Imperial family members is serious. If this situation continues, there are fears of the Imperial family system itself coming to a standstill. <... <The Emperor not only performs his duties, including traditional rituals and acts in matters of state, but also plays a major role in international goodwill. <The Emperor has frequently visited the battlefields of the Pacific War to mourn the war dead. He has also continued activities such as visiting the affected areas and listening to the voices of the victims whenever a major disaster occurs in Japan. <Many of the people must have derived courage and peace of mind from how the Emperor has prayed for peace and order in society. <In light of the situation in which the current Imperial family is deeply loved and respected, the proposals call for a review of the Imperial family system based on the premise of maintaining the system that positions the Emperor as the symbol of the state. <The Imperial family system is currently at a crossroads. The number of Imperial family members, which stood at 26 three decades ago, is now down to 16. <Moreover, five unmarried female members of the Imperial family, including Princess Aiko, 23, the daughter of the Emperor and Empress, and Princess Kako, 30, the second daughter of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, will be required to leave the Imperial family in accordance with the current Imperial House Law if they marry a man outside the Imperial family. <The official duties of the Imperial family range from entertaining overseas guests and invitees at Imperial banquets and garden parties, to attending sports and cultural events. If the decrease in the number of Imperial family members is left unattended, it will become difficult to continue these activities. <... <Under the current Imperial House Law, the Imperial succession is limited to male offspring in the family’s paternal line. Currently, only three members are eligible to succeed to the throne: Crown Prince Akishino, 59; Prince Hisahito, 18, the eldest son of Crown Prince Akishino; and Prince Hitachi, 89, the younger brother of the Emperor Emeritus. <On the premise of the current system, if Prince Hisahito has no male child after marriage, there would be no one to succeed to the Imperial throne. <... <If the Imperial family continues to stick to male offspring in the family’s paternal line, the continued existence of the system that recognizes the Emperor as the symbol of the state will be in jeopardy. The possibility of a female emperor, or an emperor in the family’s maternal line, should not be ruled out. <There have been eight female emperors in history. In addition, the current Constitution only stipulates hereditary Imperial succession. The government also has the interpretation that it is “constitutionally possible” for there to be a female emperor, or an emperor in the family’s maternal line. <In the discussions between the ruling and opposition parties under the chairmanship of the speaker of the House of Representatives and the president of the House of Councillors, there is general agreement among the parties on the creation of female Imperial branches. However, they differ over whether the husbands and children of female members should be members of the Imperial family. <The Liberal Democratic Party, which attaches importance to succession to the throne by male offspring in the family’s paternal line, is cautious about including spouses and others as Imperial family members. This is because there is a possibility that the children of female members will become maternal-line emperors in the future. In contrast, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan argues that it would be natural to treat those spouses and children in the same way as female members are treated now. <If those spouses and others were to be treated as ordinary citizens rather than Imperial family members, they would be able to freely express their opinions and engage in political and religious activities. As a result, concerns may arise that the Imperial family would be used for political purposes or that the dignity of the Imperial family would be damaged. <... <The LDP has also proposed returning paternal-line male offspring of the 11 branches that left Imperial status after the end of World War II to the Imperial family as the adopted children of current Imperial family members, as a means of ensuring the number of successors to the throne. <However, these people in the former branches have long lived as ordinary citizens since the end of the war. Will it be possible to obtain public understanding for suddenly making them eligible to succeed to the throne? The Constitution stipulates that the position of the Emperor is based on “the will of the people.” <Within the LDP, some have suggested that paternal-line male offspring of the former branches who would return to the Imperial family could be marriage partners for the female members of the Imperial family. <However, if the will of the female members of the Imperial family is not respected and their potential marriage partners are institutionally limited, human rights issues will arise.

archive.ph/USQo3 archive.ph/y18yP >Jason Schreier has released a scathing article regarding what went wrong during Dragon Age The Veilguard’s development Here are the highlights: >BioWare was under immense pressure to succeed after the failure of Anthem and Andromeda with The Veilguard to stay afloat. >Original concept (codename: Joplin) was a smaller, single-player experience. >EA forced a pivot to a multiplayer live-service format (codename: Morrison) in 2017. >Creative director Mike Laidlaw resigned over the shift. >Matt Goldman replaced him and aimed for a lighter, “pulpy” tone fitting for online gameplay. >Anthem’s failure in 2019 raised internal doubts about repeating mistakes. >Pandemic disruptions and leadership resignations further complicated development. >In 2020, the project was abruptly pivoted back to a single-player game, without proper pre-production. >Team was given just 18 months to overhaul structure and rewrite the story. >Tight timelines led to rushed decisions and a lack of meaningful choice in gameplay. >Multiple delays didn’t allow redesigns “just extensions of flawed structures.” >Feedback from alpha testing in 2022 pointed to a lack of impactful narrative decisions. >Last-minute attempts to reintroduce meaningful choices were shallow and constrained. >BioWare brought in a second team (from the Mass Effect project) in 2023 to help finish the game. >Cultural clashes arose: Dragon Age team was laid-back; Mass Effect team was top-down and structured. >Mass Effect leaders rewrote and added new scenes, including the game’s emotional finale. >Dragon Age leads were frustrated, denied similar resources, and excluded from key meetings. >Long-standing resentment emerged over EA favoring Mass Effect internally. >Original multiplayer version’s snarky tone felt outdated. >Concerns it would resemble Forspoken led to last-minute dialogue rewrites. >Voice actor strike and overtime demands hindered these changes. >Initial trailer looked like Fortnite, alienating the RPG fanbase. >Marketing failed to properly convey the game’s actual tone and genre. >BioWare’s Future: BioWare contributes around 5% of EA’s annual revenue. EA primarily profits from sports and shooter games. >Analysts say EA may continue supporting BioWare due to the potential payoff of hit RPGs However, its long decline raises real questions about whether EA will ultimately shut it down. >Analyst Doug Creutz: “If they shuttered the doors tomorrow I wouldn’t be totally surprised.”

It's official, Nintendo is forcing third party developers to censor their games on Nintendo platforms Yesterday, IGN published an article asking Nintendo representatives about how the company plans to deal with the so-called "growing epidemic of 'slop' games" on the eShop, and the representative got a little too informative on what exactly the company's new policies are, informing the interviewer: archive.ph/1feBU <Many of the new guidelines discuss “sensitive content,” and include specific rules for what qualifies as sensitive content in the first place. Listed criteria that “would be considered damaging to the Nintendo brand” include sexualization of children, overly sexual content, discrimination and hate, exploitation of social issues (“Content that clearly exploits a topical and controversial social issue, tragedy, or catastrophic event”), instructing criminal activity, and political statements (“Content that overtly supports or criticizes real-life countries, organizations, or ideologies”). Nintendo states in the guidelines that it reserves the right not to distribute a game, but claims it offers the guidelines to help developers understand its reasoning in certain situations. “We encourage you to take this information into consideration when developing content for potential release on our platforms and before submitting such content to Nintendo,” the guidelines state. It also disclaims that the guidelines are not an exhaustive list, and that sometimes “determinations may be made on a regional basis.” This only further solidifies theories people have been having about how Nintendo is presently going down the same path Sony did back in 2018 with their censorship guidelines. As just like how Shuhei Yoshida stated that the company wants games for "all kinds of people" during that time: archive.ph/X2wGz Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser made the following statement back in April: archive.ph/nrYHD <We always want to attract the best talent we can and retain that talent. We also believe it’s important for that talent to be diverse in terms of their backgrounds, their experiences, and their understandings because our players are diverse. So we strive to have diversity that reflects our players in our organization. This is on top of unconfirmed reports that Nintendo of Japan is demanding for games to be censored, if not cancelled, on the Switch: archive.is/ApYH8#post-1477584 Reports that games on the eShop are being shadowbanned: archive.ph/04lJ4 And other strange policies going into place such the obscure software region-locking of the Switch 2: archive.ph/I9KmI Keep in mind that this is a complete reversal of the company's policies from six years ago. Back in 2019, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa made the following declaration in response to a question about restricting content: archive.ph/RkxJm >Q11: Regarding restrictions on expression. Some other platforms have their own restrictions other than third-party organizations such as CERO. How about Nintendo? <A11: Nintendo entrusts a third-party organization with the task of providing objective ratings for its own products and third-party software prior to its release. If the platform operator arbitrarily chooses to do so, it would seriously impede the diversity and fairness of game software. The parental control function also allows for restrictions to be put in place. And, while I say "six years", it appears that this policy has traces from as far back 2022/2023, given the Switch games that have been censored, cancelled, or are entirely missing without explanation: >2022 <Hot Tentacles Shooter (Canceled) archive.ph/rAxny <Duel Princess (Pulled after release) <Massage Freaks (Canceled) archive.ph/akc2e This year is considered to be an "outlier", with some arguing that these releases should not be considered a part of Nintendo’s actions given the large span of time between them and later events. Ubishit and ALL western companies have an EULA in effect for over 10 years demanding you to destroy your physical copies of their games once they stop supporting those games. archive.ph/cn3ZK archive.ph/s6pDW
>>45593 I know you're being sarcastic, but it gets really tiresome about how people repeat that unironically. Especially when I can find games released in the past few years that don't have such a provision in their EULA. >archive.ph/cn3ZK <As highlighted by Amon274 on Reddit, the same clause can be found in the EULAs for various games on Steam, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Oblivion Remastered. A Phasmophobia dev also pointed to a similar clause in multiple agreements when the game was called out for the exact same thing two years ago. Good thing I haven't bought/played a single one of those games. >archive.ph/s6pDW <The legal language here is often something similar to this: “Upon any termination, you must destroy or return the physical copy of Software to the Licensor, as well as permanently destroy all copies of the Software…” via Rockstar’s EULA I decided to check my PC copy of GTAIV (Which released in 2008 for reference), and this provision is there: >This Agreement will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with its terms and conditions. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the Software and all of its component parts. You can also end this Agreement by destroying the Software and all copies and reproductions of the Software and deleting and permanently purging the Software from any client server or computer on which it has been installed. Also the EULA has this little nugget right smack dab at the top of the EULA as the very SECOND line you read: >This document may be updated from time to time and the current version will be posted at www.rockstargames.com/eula. Your continued use of this Software 30 days after a revised version has been posted constitutes acceptance by you of its terms.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a new title in a few days, and many are pumped for that, while others are eagerly awaiting a certain PS5 exclusive that’ll arrive in a few months. <And yet, there are just as many gamers, and sometimes even organizations, that seem obsessed with the games of old, and want to “experience them again” in one form or another. The games of the 90s and 2000, and even the 80s to some extent, are still beloved by most, and it makes you wonder…why is that the case? Why is there a “Retro Gaming Revival” going on right now? We’ll express it through three key points.

I figured out what's going on with all the payment processors, the Epstein files, etc.! It's their attempt to bring about their Global Communist Dictatorship by using the so-called "New Right" that's been taking over everything as the "most Conservative" generation: archive.ph/7me1j From being the sole "cause" behind the returning of religious values: archive.ph/qIQcU To desiring to being more off the grid: archive.ph/CBLX1 You see, after the "Political Left" effectively lost all legitmacy over the past several years thanks to everything having to do with the lockdowns, Brandon, the constant wars, the immigrations crisises, inflation, etc.; the elites realized that they are not going to be able to achieve plans like Agenda 2030 by appealing to their classic tactics that "traditionally won" them in various places across the 20th century. So as a result of this, last year during the election, "everyone" who didn't have anything to lose shacked up with Cheetoh-Man to help boost him into office, including innumerable people who were previously and literally calling him Hitler up until last year (Like Vance). And it was a glorious success. However the past several months have been the rubber hitting the road as these people starting to go full mask off. It explains everything from why nobodies like Andrew Tate is being given massive news coverage, to states like Texas passing anti-anime laws, to now payment processors coming down hard on Japanese entertainment (Including PayPal of all places, started by...). The purpose behind it is to force through some sort of "New Right" agenda across the country. If not through the laws, at least through the technosphere with people like Elon: archive.ph/jzfH8 It also explains why Trump cannot get a break on anything. From MIGA, to the tariffs are going to crash the global economy, to bombing Iran is going to start WW3, to now all the controversy surrounding the Epstein files. It's an attempt to delegitmize the guy (Who, let's be honest, what were you expecting given his first term?) if he doesn't play along (Or even proves to be "obtrusive"), and show that "neither side" can be "trusted" and that we need to start a new "America Party", (((coincidentally))) another idea proposed by Elon: archive.ph/FKXe4 And in case anyone says anything, I AM NOT the "first" person to make this claim: archive.ph/s8R0l I'm just pointing out that I finally "understand" how all the pieces are coming together. We're fighting the same people, who intend to do the same things, but now they're donned the mask of being the "good guys". Like does anyone remember how anti-anime Steam has been for the last several years? But instead of dropping Steam and using another platform (Like DLsite or JAST or Zoom-Platform), the "real" solution to the problem is to beg the government to get payment processors "under control" (When the problem is exclusive to Visa and Mastercard, nothing have to do with other processors like Discover or Amex, or even proposing using cryptocurrencies instead which was their ENTIRE point) by introducing even MORE regulation.

Itch.io has started to shadowban adult content from their site: archive.ph/BOmy8 With some games getting outright takendown: archive.ph/slN9j The ones still available can still be accessible through search engines like Exa and Bing, but no one knows why this is occuring. Some people are speculating that it's another request by Visa/MC after what happened with Steam, but others are pointing out that the entire action seems rather premature in it's execution.
>>45684 Itch.io finally came out with a definitive statement: archive.is/WjH38 <We have “deindexed” all adult NSFW content from our browse and search pages. We understand this action is sudden and disruptive, and we are truly sorry for the frustration and confusion caused by this change. <Recently, we came under scrutiny from our payment processors regarding the nature of some content hosted on itch.io. Due to a game titled No Mercy, which was temporarily available on itch.io before being banned back in April, the organization Collective Shout launched a campaign against Steam and itch.io, directing concerns to our payment processors about the nature of certain content found on both platforms. <Our ability to process payments is critical for every creator on our platform. To ensure that we can continue to operate and provide a marketplace for all developers, we must prioritize our relationship with our payment partners and take immediate steps towards compliance. <This is a time critical moment for itch.io. The situation developed rapidly, and we had to act urgently to protect the platform’s core payment infrastructure. Unfortunately, this meant it was not realistic to provide creators with advance notice before making this change. We know this is not ideal, and we apologize for the abruptness of this change.

GTA, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row are the "true" targets of this current wave of censorship archive.ph/NXzo6 <DRM-free games storefront ZOOM Platform, which specialises in older PC games, released a statement titled “Preserving and Protecting Artistic Freedom” on 2 August 2025, claiming that one of their payment processors reached out to notify the site of concerns similar to those affecting itch.io and Steam: <“One of our payment processors made us aware that a ‘fellow member of the industry’ was concerned about our content. After we heard from the payment processor, we immediately engaged in lengthy discussions with both PayPal and Stripe.” <ZOOM Platform went on to say that they began working with these processors to “develop a tripartite solution” to their concerns. This solution includes the implementation of opt-in Two-Factor Authentication for customers, alternate payment processors and options, and a “wallet system” that allows users to add funds directly to their ZOOM Platform account and spend on the site’s products. <ZOOM Platform said this solution was developed to “ensure the right to free speech and freedom of expression as well as protect the safety of our valued customers and partners,” and later in the statement maintained that they “have no plans to remove any titles, and will do absolutely everything in our power to prevent such de-listings. We are fervent supporters of artistic freedom and always will be.” <A few days after ZOOM Platform posted its statement, a representative told GamingOnLinux that they expected delistings to grow, and that, in discussions at ZOOM Platform, titles like “Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row were described as potentially at risk.” <ZOOM Platform does not currently offer GTA or Saints Row games, though it does appear to be the only online marketplace that offers Duke Nukem 1, Duke Nukem 2, Duke Nukem 3D, and Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project – all four games make up the platform’s best-sellers. <Update, 6 August 2025: A spokesperson for ZOOM Platform provided the following clarification to This Week in Videogames: <“In the course of our discussions with the payment processors, going over the content contained within games on our store, including the Duke Nukem franchise, we were made aware of loosely defined language, rules from credit card companies, that could include Duke Nukem’s portrayal of women.” <“When we pressed for more details, given that such language cast a wide net, we were told that Grand Theft Auto, and similar titles such as Saints Row, could very well fit this description.” <Regarding its initial published statement, ZOOM Platform said that “with the advent of the UK’s Online Safety Act, the potentiality for censorship is vastly increasing. We simply wanted to share this information, so that the public would be informed.” Every fucking time, they want to go after the same fucking games >Visa & Mastercard Overwhelmed by Gamer Backlash After Censoring Adult Games archive.ph/u6jTW <What started as a quiet “moral cleanup” targeting extreme adult games has escalated into a full-scale revolt. Following pressure from “activist” group Collective Shout, payment processors like Visa and Mastercard reportedly pressured digital storefronts such as Steam and Itch.io to delist or hide adult content—including games with BidenBTQ+ themes, which is ironic as the people who support such “efforts” are known to push censorship towards games with traditional feminine sex appeal. <But now the companies are being flooded with coordinated complaints from those looking to oppose this censorship. According to a report from Polygon, gamers are using call-in scripts and mass email templates to jam up Visa and Mastercard’s customer support systems, demanding they stop acting as moral gatekeepers for legal, digital entertainment. It’s gotten so bad that reps are reportedly “overwhelmed” by the volume of messages. Oh, sure, people go after these groups NOW, but not when it doesn't effect the games and media they don't like. >If you don't like Nintendo's controversial game key-cards, you can now let the company know directly archive.ph/gS77g <UPDATE: Survey has been deactivated. >Western audiences growing tired of “formulaic” Disney titles is what paved the way for Japanese anime, Toei Animation veterans say archive.ph/UGvOl <Speaking to President Online, Tatsuya Nagamine, a veteran anime director at Toei Animation (who directed Dragon Ball Super: Broly and much of the One Piece anime) says that the reason why Japanese anime has become so big on a worldwide level is because it offers “eccentric” works. “Right now, only Japanese animation offers bizarre stories where you truly can’t predict what will happen next.” <Nagamine compares the position of Japan in animation to that of France in haute couture. “Japanese anime creators are like French designers. You could say the whole world is anxiously waiting to see what kind of strange creations they’ll put out next.” On a more practical note, he also mentions the importance of Japanese anime predominantly being produced for television. As airing shows rotate every three months, there is a constant turnover of new titles that satisfy a wide range of tastes. <As an antithesis to Japanese animated works, Nagamine cites the works of Disney and similar Western studios, which he considers to be formulaic. “I think overseas fans of animation are already tired of predictable Disney-style works.” Ironically, Toei has at occasions been referred to as “The Disney of Asia” for how it pioneered animation production in the region. <Toei Animation’s producer and adviser Shinji Shimizu doubles down on this perspective, commenting, “Japanese anime comes from comics. There is great care put into the characters. Disney, on the other hand, has predetermined storylines, and there is always a happy ending. In Japanese anime, you may see a protagonist die halfway through, or a villain turn out to be a hero – it’s made to be satisfying even for adults.” Although anime is a large-scale commercial export, its roots lie in the niche realm of manga, which has been relatively free of restrictions. Shimizu suggests that this is what compelled “US audiences, who grew tired of Disney” to turn to anime. <But despite how global it has become, Toei’s veterans consider that the appeal of anime lies precisely in its Japaneseness. Shimizu comments, “What the world is paying attention to in anime is Japanese culture, but not things like kabuki or sumo. It’s everyday life.” Citing examples such as Western viewers’ fascinations with the school and campus life of students in Japan, he concludes that Japanese anime has found success by visually presenting aspects of Japanese life that don’t exist overseas. <On the other hand, an aspect of anime that has changed with the medium’s expansion into the global market is undoubtedly the production scale and costs. Although competition between domestic studios is also a factor, Nagamine says that audience expectations are why anime has become so much more detailed with time. “If the quality isn’t high, you can’t win, and when you consider [the demands of] the overseas market, you have to keep raising the quality.” Kadokawa, another big player in Japan’s anime industry, has similarly shared plans to shift to higher budget production, which it considers a necessary condition for achieving global commercial success.

These standards also demand confirmation of age and consent from anyone in content published on these sites. France, once opposed, is now in favor, Korben said, citing Patrick Breyer, a former member of the European Parliament for Germany and the European Pirate Party. <Belgium, Hungary, Sweden, Italy and Spain are also in favor, while Germany remains undecided. However, if Berlin joins the majority, a qualified council vote could push the plan through by mid-October, Korben said. <A qualified majority in the EU Council is achieved when two conditions are met. First, at least 55 percent of member states, meaning 15 out of 27, must vote in favor. Second, those countries must represent at least 65% of the EU’s total population. >IMPROVING OVERSIGHT OF FEDERAL GRANTMAKING archive.ph/PzdjI <By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and to improve the process of Federal grantmaking while ending offensive waste of tax dollars, it is hereby ordered: <Section 1. Mind you, the day I learned that an ex-banker was taking control of it I knew it was just a question of time for the usual pozz to hit the entire structure and kill the spirit. It's amusing to imagine how a bold company could make its way under such a climate of total control: make games that work on day one, limit the number of allowed updates, don't require an obligatory connection, don't push OS updates constantly, let people save their games and run their own servers, prevent the third world and shitty devs from flooding the store, sell games at a decent price for both customers and publishers (I guess the increased price is to cover AI dev now)......

PPs should never have the right to curtail the liberties of individual and companies which operative businesses directly depend on their payment systems. The government should step in and tell them that unless customers violate the law, they can pretty much roll up their ToS and shove them where the sun never shines. Just like for the obtained rights to gather in large mall centers, anything that became a defacto critical element of private or public life should never infringe on liberties granted by the law. This bullshit about ToS and EULAs has been going on for way too long. These private companies are not judges, they are not law makers, they are not politcians, they are not leaders. They should be subservient to the law and public interest.

I give you the reason why companies would rather kill and destroy products rather than preserve them for future generations: https://archive.today/https://infogalactic.com/info/Thor_Power_Tool_Co._v._Commissioner https://archive.today/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor_Power_Tool_Co._v._Commissioner >Thor Power Tool Company v. Commissioner, 439 U.S. 522 (1979), was a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court upheld IRS regulations limiting how taxpayers could write down inventory value. >Thor manufactured equipment using multiple parts that it produced. It capitalized the costs of these parts when produced. When it had inventories of parts in excess of production needs, the company's accounting practice was to write down those inventories, taking a loss based on management judgment. >However, IRS regulations accepted this "lower of cost or market" method for tax purposes only if the taxpayer could demonstrate a reduced market price, or the goods were defective or "subnormal". It did not permit companies to write down goods simply because they were not selling them. >In court, the company argued that its deduction for loss should be allowed for tax purposes because it was permitted for accounting purposes. But the Court upheld the IRS regulations, saying, "There is no presumption that an inventory practice conformable to 'generally accepted accounting principles' is valid for tax purposes. Such a presumption is insupportable in light of the statute, this Court's past decisions, and the differing objectives of tax and financial accounting." What does this have to do with video games and preservation? Well... >The Thor decision caused publishers and booksellers to be much quicker to destroy stocks of poorly-selling books in order to realize a taxable loss. These books would previously have been kept in stock but written down to reflect the fact that not all of them were expected to sell. For a more detailed explanation: archive.ph/QYC5c <Finally, in early 1979, the Supreme Court announced its decision on Thor Power Tool Company vs. Commissioner, essentially rewriting the tax code covering inventories. This made the extensive backlists held in publishers' warehouses a liability. Almost overnight, the publishers pulped thousands of titles, effectively killing off the backlists including a large number of older titles. SFWA and many writers see this as the act that caused the divorce between science fiction and its past. You can give your thanks to the SCOTUS and the IRS
>>46167 I don't understand what this has to do with digital media which doesn't need to be inventoried.
>>46169 Because it still takes up space on hard drives. Doesn't matter "how much" space, it's space regardless. Then there is also the fact that this digital media still has to function on a device, which requires parts, which do have to be inventoried. On top of all that, because of the digital nature of games, the current climate and laws incentivizes companies to push for digital distribution because the less overhead that would exist compared to traditional physical media.

Cuckchan actually does something good for once: >4chan and Kiwi Farms Sue the UK Over its Age Verification Law archive.ph/T8ovQ <4chan and Kiwi Farms sued the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) over its age verification law in U.S. federal court Wednesday, fulfilling a promise it announced on August 23. In the lawsuit, 4chan and Kiwi Farms claim that threats and fines they have received from Ofcom “constitute foreign judgments that would restrict speech under U.S. law.” <Both entities say in the lawsuit that they are wholly based in the U.S. and that they do not have any operations in the United Kingdom and are therefore not subject to local laws. Ofcom’s attempts to fine and block 4chan and Kiwi Farms, and the lawsuit against Ofcom, highlight the messiness involved with trying to restrict access to specific websites or to force companies to comply with age verification laws. <The lawsuit calls Ofcom an “industry-funded global censorship bureau.” <“Ofcom’s ambitions are to regulate Internet communications for the entire world, regardless of where these websites are based or whether they have any connection to the UK,” the lawsuit states. “On its website, Ofcom states that ‘over 100,000 online services are likely to be in scope of the Online Safety Act—from the largest social media platforms to the smallest community forum.’”

>"Legality Is Not The Defining Factor": Steam Censorship Campaign Details It Seeks Removal Of Games Whether Legal Or Not archive.vn/NU4c8 <In a new interview, Caitlin Roper, campaigns manager at Collective Shout, revealed that "legality is not the defining factor" in the games it targets, stating that men who are defending the games "perpetrate crimes of violence against women." <Speaking in an interview with TweakTown, Roper states that the group's objection "is to content that glorifies sexualised violence against women and children," adding, "it is clear many of the men defending their r*pe games perpetrate crimes of violence against women, because they are doing it to us right now." <Roper states that while many of the games the company initially targeted would "be illegal in Australia," the organization doesn't view legality as the "defining factor". <"Our work focuses on combating the sexual objectification and exploitation of women and girls, so we focus our energy there," says Roper. "That said, we call out this objectification and abusive depictions of women and girls even where they are not illegal. Legality is not the defining factor; it is about documented evidence of harm to women and girls." <When asked about the damage Collective Shout was causing to developers who had released their games within the confines of the law, Roper stated, "If Steam and itch.io had been moderating their platforms as they should have, there would have been no need to temporarily delist games to ensure they were not in violation of their policies. Our objection has always been clearly stated - r*pe, inc*st, and posting on /leftypol/ual abuse." >Development Troubles & Internal Drama Allegedly Hurt Reputation Of Lost Soul Aside In China Ahead Of Release archive.vn/8md52 <After nearly a decade in development, Lost Soul Aside was released on August 29, 2025, and the game’s reputation within its home country of China has been overshadowed by controversy stemming from both development challenges and damaging internal drama. <The controversy arose earlier this year when leaked private chat logs from a former developer (thanks, Reset Era forums member Ceerious) began to spread online. These logs contained troubling comments that quickly went viral in Chinese gaming circles. In one exchange, the former developer boasted, “This project can only be completed thanks to Yang Bing [Lost Soul Aside director/producer] and me,” dismissing the contributions of others. Far more serious was the use of a slur and the claim that “when you lose one unit of sale from yellow people, you will receive ten units of sale from black people.” Another message accused Sony of forcing political correctness during a studio visit. <The authenticity of these leaks was not disputed by Lost Soul Aside director/producer Yang Bing, who promptly issued a public apology. He admitted his own failings in leadership, acknowledged that the remarks had caused harm, and stressed that the employee in question had already been dismissed last year.
