Mecha Thread Anonymous 08/03/2024 (Sat) 23:18:11 Id: 6fe757 No. 997351
This month it will have been one year since the last thread. Any decent upcoming Mecha Geimus anon? Also, r8 my AC
We kinda already have a thread? >>969812 >>969812 >>969812 >>969812 >>969812 >>969812
Some mech vidya I tried/heard about of varying quality that either released this year or are coming out later: >Grit and Valor (not out yet but it has a demo) >Granvir (not out yet but it has a demo) >Kriegsfront (not out yet but it has a demo) >One-inch Tactics (out already and has a demo) >Sand Land (out already and has a demo) >EDF 6 (out already) >Mech Engineer (out already and has a demo) >Cavalry Girls (out already and has a demo) >Gundam Breaker 4 (not out yet) >MechWarrior 5 Clans (not out yet) >The Scramble Vice (not out yet) >Vulture -Unlimited Frontier (not out yet but has a demo) >MetalMercs (not out yet but has a demo) One bonus being an older game I enjoyed but only recently was made aware of: >HIGH-MACS simulator
>>997351 The TND bot should be scarier. Your frame should be wider. Your arms are small. >>997426 >Granvir (not out yet but it has a demo) It's good but has too many bugs and is poorly optimized. >Kriegsfront (not out yet but it has a demo) The gameplay is so good, but the translation is so bad. The dubbers didn't even try to fix it, so they must have been independent hires. I wish I knew how to mod its script.
>>997426 There's also Mecha Break (multiplayer). Seems there's currently an on-going closed beta for it
>>997430 >too many bugs and is poorly optimized Yeah a game that looks like it does should not be running so poorly. I hope he gets it in a better state since it is pretty fun. >>997431 Have you or anyone else tried it yet? If so how is it? I wrote that one off since I was never big on multiplayer focused games.
>>997430 >Arms too small Those are the ones with best tracking, that's why I use them.
>>997430 >>997549 It worked for T-Rex.
>>997575 TND-Rex
>>997431 Yeah, that one looks like a ton of fun
what was the judgement on project mikhail?
>>1000624 Mediocre
>>1000624 It should have been called "project Milkhail" and involve mechs and you know what.
>>997426 >>MechWarrior 5 Clans (not out yet) Even without playing it I can recommend MW5:C for pirating and nothing else, just like MW5; the only thing that stops MW5 from being console trash without reservation is mods on PC and even then barely so - umodded MW5 is inferior in almost every way to Mechwarrior 2, a game from 1995. A fucking Crysis mod released in 2009 is a better Mechwarrior game than MW5. That said, I actually DO recommend that anyone interested in mech games pirate and mod MW5 just to check it out because as far as first-person stompy-shooty mech action (as opposed to the slidey-shooty mech action of something like AC/Gundam/Gungriffon/etc. or something turn-based or an RTS) from a cockpit perspective goes MW5 is pretty much your only option released in the last 25 or so years - and to PGI's credit they managed to make that aspect of the game fairly enjoyable. It just starts to grate once that initial new game smell starts to fade and the problems come into focus and you realize that almost every fucking non-story mission in the game is literally just "walk to the waypoint(s) on the tiny procgen map, shred the braindead enemies and everything you see and walk back to the ship" with effectively zero subtlety or tactics and the sheer lack of love put into many aspects of the game become visible. No escort duty, no aircraft or tank gameplay, no LAMs, no combat drops, extremely limited stealth missions, pitiful EWAR and electronics options, lack of advanced functions for your mech, extremely similar cockpit designs, improperly synced sounds, an objectively inferior bitchin' betty, poorly handled salvage and customization, etc. Just walk up, shoot, walk out. There isn't even a map grid and your three (3) commands to your lancemates ("follow me", "go here" and "attack my current target") are all handled with buttons instead of KB+M because they had to be usable on a controller - hope you like exposing your rear armor to tell your lancemate to move to a new position lol. Mods can at least partially address some of these but it still amounts largely to polishing a turd because doing many of these things properly is well beyond the scope of mods.
>>997499 I got to play it a little bit. Not enough to try out all the mechs, I was drinking, and I don't have a lot of /m/ under my belt, so take my brief review with a grain of salt. I thought it seemed pretty fun, but I didn't see a lot of room for meaningful customization of mechs. It may have been due to it just being beta, as there seemed to be slots to swap weapons but nothing to swap them with. There seemed to be a decent variety of mechs/playstyles. I mostly played the light attacker, didn't notice it in the clip shown. Much faster, and I played pretty spazzy anyway, constantly boosting around, while other playstyles seemed to allow you to play much slower/tankier if you wanted. Seemed like it will be going the route of spamming dailies, collecting chests to unlock minor stat upgrade items, etc. I wouldn't say I'm excited for it, but I'll be keeping an eye out, it did seem like it has potential to be a nice time-killer for some quick multiplayer matches.
>>1001251 Is it PVP or PVE?
>>1001355 Pure pvp, was essentially an "objectives based" team shooter, mechs serve different roles like support, tank, attacker, etc.
>>997426 Another game I saw recently: >Project Landsword (not out yet but has a demo) >>1001198 I'm in agreement there. Without mods MW5 is not something I would ever bother with.
>>1002468 Absolutely hate mechs with wheels. The idea of them getting clogged up with debris really grinds my gears
>>997371 We have can multiple robot threads. Want to see another robot thread on our sister board? >>>/vb/4166 Very High Quality & great robot discussion >>1002488 What about mecha with treads?
>>1002488 (checked) Whenever I see them it reminds me of Ghost in the Shell and I don't mind that. >>1002818 >X1 alpha booty Not something I expected to see today.
>just a few more days till Gundam Breaker 4 Please don't be sucked.
>>1005183 All the fags I saw who got the early test plays of it said it seemed pretty good. >>1002818 >What about mecha with treads? So long as the treads are big and tanky looking I like them. The skinny ones like in >>997351 are the kind I can't stand though.
>>1005183 >>1005289 I really hope they don't fuck it up either.

>>1005295 GUNDAM IS FOR BANG NOT CLANG
>>997351 >No pilebunker What the fuck are you doing nigger >>997430 >The dubbers didn't even try to fix it, so they must have been independent hires. I wish I knew how to mod its script It's made by Indonesians making their first mech game and probably their first real 'success' despite being a demo So yeah i'll cut em some slack. Hopefully they'll add some community translation feedbacks though. >>1005183 Has Gundamn been good for like, the past 10 years?

Just noticed Mechwarrior 5 Clans came out. Anyone try it yet? I'm curious how good/bad it ended up being. >>1006757 >Gundam Breaker 4 I still need to try that one too.
>>1034372 I didn't care for Mechwarrior
>>1034388 >didn't So you care about it now?
>>1034372 It's a lot like MW 5 Mercs in some ways. The levels are hand made and planned out instead of procedurally generated, but they still have you fighting absurd hordes of enemies. You can end up fighting 30 to 50 enemies in some levels. Combat is fast and hectic, so if you liked the slower, more tactical fighting in MW 4, you're fucked. If you don't know any of the lore, don't expect this game to teach you. Go watch some of Tex talks battletech's videos on the overall history of the setting. It does portray the clanners well from their own point of view. It does let you play with superior clan omnimechs and weapons against hordes of freeborn barbarian scum with their inferior weapons, though. So if that kind of power fantasies are your jam, it's good stuff. Useful links if you want to know more: Lore about the history of Clan Smoke Jaguar, the protagonist clan in the game, from their point of view. Good primer, though he does cover some of the historical events the game covers, so there will be some story spoilers. It's a good introduction to the clan, and what sets it apart from other clans. https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=2gmNTW1TQ7A Tex Talks Battletech's primer on the clans. He is probably the best lore guy on the subject of battletech, but has a heavy anti clan bias that clouds much of the information. Part's 1 and 2. https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=CDR_Zpb05uk https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=3B165wbTnHs If you want the full battletech lore experience, go for his entire playlist. Each episode is mostly about a specific battle or mech, but delves heavily into the background and lore about the factions and universe. https://inv.nadeko.net/playlist?list=PLR5zhFCFVb9XC9FtMuHzgdcl0WvfsQdC0 If you prefer to read for yourself, start here: https://1d6chan.miraheze.org/wiki/Battletech Once you've read up on the introductions to the factions and universe, go to the Sarna Wiki: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page
I haven't played any MW games apart from the OG MW2 and its expansions. Am I missing out on anything?
>>1034478 MW 3 is about the story and operating what feels like a complex machine. Like Microsoft Flight Simulator, but for a giant robot. MW 4, and it's variants, are more streamlined and arcadey in their controls, but mechs still feel big and stompy. Combat is more focused on maneuvering, timing your weapons and thinking ahead in a fight. Helps that in spite of the arcadey feel, the games pace isn't massively quick. Think more soulsborn than fast twitchy action. MW 5, for what I've played, which isn't much, to be fair, is fast, chaotic and twitchy combat against large hordes of enemies.
>>1034389 I didn't like it. Felt a bit cumbersome to control, like I was controlling a realistic tool rather than a 10k ton pound mech.
Project Six
>>1034481 >MW 5, for what I've played, which isn't much, to be fair, is fast, chaotic and twitchy combat against large hordes of enemies. Kinda but not really; it's a bit more arcade-y than previous entries but I wouldn't call it "fast, chaotic and twitchy". The basic gameplay loop of MW5 is adequate if a bit bare-bones; the problem lies in three main areas - first, the AI being utterly atrocious on every level and second, the fact that basically every mission in the game can be described as "go to point X on the procgen map and destroy generic objective Y and then evac to your ship at point Z when you're done. The third problem boils down to how bland and low-effort everything else about the game is. Seriously, while everything more-or-less works that's about all you can say about it. Customization? Yeah, you can customize your mechs a little bit. Markets? Yeah, you can buy and sell stuff. Sim elements? I guess there are some, technically. - et cetera. Once that new game smell wears off, you start to realize how much is missing or poorly handled and this is exacerbated by the fact that modders have massively improved basically everything about the game. There are mods to completely overhaul customization and add new weapons and equipment and mechs, mods to dramatically improve the AI, mods to rebalance combat and make it more lore-accurate, mods that add literally dozens of new map types, mods that overhaul the GRAFIX, etc. MechWarrior: Living Legends is a better MechWarrior game than MW5 (and I'll add Clans in there without even playing it) and MWLL is a fucking Crysis mod that's probably older than some of the posters ITT. GOTT STRAFE PGI
>>1034424 Thanks for writeup+links anon. >>1037800 (checked) I like the option for the cockpit view. I always prefer it except when doing anything melee related. >>1037903 Definitely suggest modding for MW5. If anyone has an essential list of mods, I'm curious if I was missing any good ones. >Living Legends That was a great mod. Is the community still clinging to life? >playing Battletech 3062 mod for the first time >having fun and slowly filling out my lances even if I made it slightly more difficult by not paying attention to/reading up on the new game settings I've been enjoying it apart from the awful load times that comes with a heavily modded unity game. On another sour note, I feel bad for the transport pilot who keeps spawning stuck on buildings/mountains/etc. The man and my Battle Armors inside have spawned stuck for 4 missions in a row now. I need to swap him with an air transport that allows BA to fire from inside. Pic related is my last deployment which thankfully was a defense mission where he also managed to get a kill up there with his very limited firing area somehow.

>>1074167 That too, but also I want to care for them, and to be able to convince myself they love me. Cozy in their cockpit, alone from the world, with a trusted friend and nobody else. I have face blindness so a faceless mech would be a reprieve from the frustration and stress of struggling through interactions with people who all look the fucking same yet get pissy if you don't recognize them immediately. Robot wouldn't get mad, I could put some stickers on it to be even more recognizable. Things would be ok.
>>1005432 You don't. Gundams are for gentle loving.
>>1005432 I think there was one series where the operators wore special suits that connected their nerves to the mechs controls, and their movement reflected onto it. Go from there.
I wish there were more mecha series than just AC and Battletech/MechWarrior. >>1005298 >Has Gundamn been good for like, the past 10 years? When it comes to UC, Hathaway is good but won't be completed before Tomino dies. Increasing funding for Hathaway would demand that Sunrise dedicate too many resources to it instead of animating AUs and funding fanbait like the G photonovel. I read that late-UC is supposed to be animated after Hathaway, but I can't remember where. I doubt it'll happen. Other than these, Gundam, especially UC, lives in manga and novels that tend to be good. >>1005300 Despair Memory is still introducing its characters, even after multiple volumes. Code Fairy is fine. I wish the GBO2 engine would be used for more side games. A VS game that isn't arcadeshit and combines the elements of VS Zeta and the entries before it would be great. >>1086845 To be carried around by a giant robot. To be loved by a giant robot.
Does Daemon X Machina 2 still count as a mech game even if it seems to focus more on Power Armors now?
>>1144233 At this point I'm just happy if I get mechanical themes and the right gameplay, so boosters and multipod missiles and beam guns and whatever. Maybe on paper it's not but it's not like we get cool power armor games all the time either. It's moved from niche mechanical genre to other niche mechanical genre. Image translation for the AC4 artbook seems to suggest that power armor styled aesthetics were considered by the artist at one point, like wearing a suit on top of an AC, or perhaps even being open to interpreting it in game as just power armor, but that's where the translation gets spotty. It's all connected really.
>>1144233 Strictly speaking, by definition, no, because you do not pilot a mech. I'd give it a pass though since it's a sequel to one and if it has sufficiently customizable modular parts. >>1144406 I feel you, but it's also slightly disappointing to see the change to power armor. It's still cool but nothing beats a big robot.
I don't know where /gerg/ went so I'm assuming someone here cares. MWO Legendaries and some other mechs are 60% off. $6 for a mech and a buncha battlepass goodies seems like a very good deal. Thinking of getting >Scaleshot - best Clan SRM skirmisher >Argent - I don't have a KGC and the paintjob looks cool But KGCs are really bad >Executioner Legend 48kph, 95 tons, also kind of a meme like the KGC but it looks cool.
>>1144233 >>1144487 It counts. /m/ also includes power armor trope, especially if Japanese. Like Bubblegum Crisis.
>>1144487 I guess they're trying to find their own identity as a franchise now that AC6 exists.
>>1149055 To be fair if my games entire identity was "it's better than nothing!" and then the original fucking came back, and it was even popular, changing gears would be a very reasonable action.
>>1153579 AC6 doesn't feel like much more of an AC game than DXM does, so the hole is still left unfilled. Titanic Scion looks pretty decent in its own right though.
>>1154090 >AC6 doesn't feel like much more of an AC game than DXM does what nonsense are you blabbering about?
>>1154345 He's right, AC6 is made by newcomers to FROM, emulating what they think is Armored Core. It's essentially a remixed modded Soulslike, inputs wise. No sense of piloting of older games. No momentum of PS3 era games. AC6 is AC for people that only checked it out because they're FROM secondaries.
>>1154345 >weightless arcade-style movement with no turn speed >simplified customization >1 million lines of mostly superfluous dialogue per mission I could probably go on. DXM actually does have some stuff that 6 is missing though, like different-sized lockboxes, weapon arms, etc.
>>1154457 >>1154523 So you're complaining that it isn't an AC game because it doesn't move like the previous AC gens? Despite AC also had a different movements from 1 to 2, 3 to 4, and 4 to 5? Despite it also had an AC that inherits the design from previous gens? Despite it also had customization with same variant of legs and arena? Despite also having an inertia in its movement like its previous installment? I mean, what is your argument here that makes it not an AC games (despite to be an AC games you just need it to have an AC in it)? Even the mobile game that just come out, the top down view kind of game is still an AC game because it had AC in it (and its customization surprisingly) yet AC6 is not AC game because...?
>>1154457 >AC for people that only checked it out because they're FROM secondaries. why would you say something so controversial yet so true? i will be patiently waiting for DxM2 though, already beaten dark souls 1 decades ago and have no interest in replaying it with a new skin, i can just replay DS1 instead.
>>1154579 > Despite AC also had a different movements from 1 to 2, 3 Fake narrative from emulatorbabbies. Go watch another Youtube slop about AC lore or something lmao >I mean, what is your argument here that makes it not an AC games The control scheme is casualized and simplified. It's an action game. Not a mecha pilot game. If I wanted that I would've played Gundam Extreme Versus some more.
(191.71 KB 1920x1080 Last Raven Final.jpg)

AC is hard sure but it's not impossible to get used to the controls and beat it. I don't see the point of making it seems like the old AC game is this super hard to beat game and "only me and the old players is the true ACfans while newfags is not an actual AC players" mentality therefore old is good new is bad. It's so stupid. >>1154887 I'm using default controls from 1 through Last Raven. Nice projecting. I don't believe you actually play the game yourself. >The control scheme is casualized and simplified. Even the old controls isn't some super complicated sim like your nostalgia goggle said. 6 wasn't even that different with 4. Again you don't even played any game yourself.
>>1155037 >emulatorbab secondary >y-you fucking nostalgi- Knew it lol. You will never get it, sorry. Your brain is too fried.
>>1155084 >not denying what I said >no proof you played the game >no argument Always the same kind of people. You don't know shit about AC game.
>>1155101 You're an emulatorbab bro. Secondaries speedrunning these games with IGN guides and watching bandwagonning cucktube e-celebs suddenly be experts on this franchise are not relevant.
>>1155153 >needing guides instead doing trial and error yourself Nice one, you seem to speak from experience. It just occurred to me that maybe you saying AC6 isn't an AC game also because you don't actually know how to play that game too? Did you also look up guides to beat it like you just said?
(132.69 KB 512x433 1695312633040467.png)

I have 15000 hours in this series, with 6000 in ACVD alone, and I think AC6 isn't an Armored Core game. It's a fucking Souls game with an Ace Combat plotline. Why bother with guns when raw melee works just as good, just like in Souls?

>Sperg faggots need to call AC6 anything but an AC game Holy shit shit the fuck up, especially if you're just going to pretend no AC games exist before the PS3 era. >>1155037 Honestly when I bought and played Nexus in 2022 the twin stick scheme made playing impossible, I don't get why people say it better than default. Closest I've came to liking it was using the ps Vita version, but the small size cause hand cramps.
>>997499 >Have you or anyone else tried it yet? If so how is it? I wrote that one off since I was never big on multiplayer focused games. I played some of the betas, but not this most recent one which might have been an open beta. It's basically a "hero shooter" but with slightly customizable (with incredibly minor stat changes) mechs. You have the standard modes like deathmatch, team deathmatch, a sort of capture the flag, 3v3, and there's even a mode that's kinda like Fortnite where it's a zone that shrinks and then moves, and it's still PvP in this mode, but there is also PvE during this mode kind of like a LoL thing going on. I hate that game mode, but the others are pretty fun.
>>1037800 >cockpit view Nice >UI doesn't change and the cockpit is just a frame window instead of actually displaying cockpit UI Ah almost. Though everything else look good. Would try. >>1155354 >Honestly when I bought and played Nexus in 2022 the twin stick scheme made playing impossible, I don't get why people say it better than default. Pretty much my same exact reaction when I started the Nexus. Though it's more that I'm not used for the boost to be in L2. And now AC4 use new control again with L2 as boost...
>>1155447 Speaking of L2 I've been playing DMC3 with the intention of doing a gunslinger only hard run. Mapping L2 for firing fast didn't seem like a good idea until I actually tried it. I have less worry about learning AC4's boost mechanics because of that.
>>1154579 >Despite AC also had a different movements from 1 to 2, 3 to 4, and 4 to 5? Generations 1-5 are different yes, but 6 is barely in the same genre anymore. See pic related. The series always had certain fundamental gameplay elements that did not change between generations until 6. Turn speed is a huge part of AC's gameplay identity, and when removed it becomes basically unrecognizable. >Despite it also had an AC that inherits the design from previous gens? I assume you're talking about visual designs which is irrelevant to gameplay, which is what I'm talking about. >Despite it also had customization with same variant of legs and arena? 6 has 7 million bipeds and the bare minimum of other leg types. It doesn't really matter how many leg parts you have when the actual tangible differences between legs in the same category are minimal, since there is no turning speed. Biped 1 feels the same as Biped 2. All 3 of the quad legs feel the same. It's like playing a racing game where all the cars have the same handling and only the top speeds and acceleration are different. There are a million other problems with the customization in 6 that I'm not gonna get into here. The arena in 6 frankly sucks, because AC VS AC combat in 6 sucks, because the gameplay is primarily designed around the boss fights, because big Souls boss fights is what From does now. >Despite also having an inertia in its movement like its previous installment? Dunno what you're talking about. 6 has little to no inertia on movement. You start, stop and turn on a dime. You fall extremely slowly even with boosters turned off, as if your 2000 ton giant robot is made of paper. Not even gonna get into the lackluster animations and movement sounds, I don't want to type all day. >(despite to be an AC games you just need it to have an AC in it)? This is the key difference between me and you: I wanted AC6 to play like Armored Core. You just want a mech game with customization that says Armored Core on the box. If you think 6's gameplay has more than a passing resemblance to the previous titles then you do not understand anything about the mechanics beyond the surface level.

>oh cool, a bunch of posts in the mecha general? >people are just Fromwhining again Anyone who dismisses 6 as "not real AC" but isn't spittle-flecking mad over the changes made in 4 or 5 is just a poser occupying the current step of the "well the last game was good, it was the last one with soul when you think about it, it's the new one that sucks!" contrarian process. They will ALWAYS say 4 and 5 are okay, it's just 6 that's too far. They will do it with 7.

>>1155645 >You start, stop, and turn on a dime. There is a slight delay. It’s subtle, but it’s there. It’s part of the animation. If you listen closely, you can literally hear the piston moving before you jump. >I wanted AC6 to play like Armored Core. No, you wanted AC6 to play like old-gen Armored Core. Like I said before: you're stuck in the mindset of "old = good, new = bad." Ever since AC4, the games became more fast-paced. Turn speed became irrelevant. And now with AC6, it's even faster, so they removed it. (Well, it technically still exists, but you don’t control it directly, and the differences are minimal depending on leg types.) And what the hell do you mean by "Turn Speed is a huge part of AC gameplay?" Any real AC player knows you boost and strafe, not spin in place. You don’t rely on turn speed when you actually know how to play. You only ever noticed it because you wanted it to be faster, not because you wanted to build around a slower turn speed. That's just dumb. FromSoft removed the option because they already made it fast, exactly like what players wanted in the old gens. You're not asking for the gameplay, you're asking for another oldgen
>>1155913 4 was anemic but a take on "next-gen" direction with potential. FA went off the rails but it was fun for what it is. V was once again a misdirection, sabotaged with multiplayer focus. VD was a solid "I'm sorry" edition. AC died here and when people talk about it fondly they talk about the PS2 era. When you have to go "B-BUT FA WAS DOGSHITE TOO" just to defend 6, you know you already lost the ground. Still 4/FA/V/VD were still mecha games that rewarded piloting and their had their own quirks that elevated them from other mecha games. 6 has nothing. It's a braindead arcadey action game. A lock-on strafe slop. A single player mode for Gundam Versus. It's not a shit game. It's just a shit Armored Core game. And that's always tragic when it happens to a niche series because it invites secondary rapefugees trying to squeeze in their dogshit opinions as if they know what they're talking about or think they matter.
>>1155645 and to add >6 has 7 million bipeds and the bare minimum of other leg types. It doesn't really matter how many leg parts you have when the actual tangible differences between legs in the same category are minimal, since there is no turning speed. Biped 1 feels the same as Biped 2. All 3 of the quad legs feel the same. 2 through Last Raven had the same problem. They even have more legs that feels even samey than 6. >>1156008 So my post in this >>1155037 is right after all. You're no different than people who refuse to play AC1 because they can't stand the control and dismissed the game altoghether, such as you did with 6.
I want to play AC6. How fucked will my experience be post all the nerf-patches? I've seen people complain about the updates.
>>1156191 >I've seen people complain about the updates. mostly because of the weapon adjustment for pvp, I think. You can play the campaign just fine.
>>1156178 >You're no different than people who refuse to play AC1 lil secondary bro now schizoposting Grim. This is why you shouldn't be acknowledged.

>>1156294 >schizo Who's the schizo?
>>1155928 Turn speed is not irrelevant in 4th gen. Anyone who says this does not understand how the game works. I'm not saying this just to be rude, I'm simply trying to teach. >And what the hell do you mean by "Turn Speed is a huge part of AC gameplay?" If you need to ask this you really don't know anything at all. Are you sure you've played these games? Turn speed basically determines what range you can fight at. Higher turn speed = better at CQC. Lighter legs have higher turn speed. Lighter legs can't carry heavier parts, so your defensive stats are low. This means you need to avoid as much damage as possible, and the best way to do this is by getting close and flanking your opponent so they can't even shoot you. If your turn speed is higher than your opponent's you'll obviously have an easier time flanking them. >You only ever noticed it because you wanted it to be faster, not because you wanted to build around a slower turn speed. I do personally prefer playing lightweight CQC builds (in pre-6 games anyway) but slow-turning heavy builds are absolutely viable. Heavies are better at long-range combat - to put it in fighting game terms they're kind of like zoners whereas lightweights are rushdown characters. All of this stuff is missing in 6 so now the gameplay just boils down to ABing towards the opponent and using cheap 4-weapon combos to kill in as few staggers as possible (if you're in singleplayer you also have to worry about memorizing Dark Souls boss movesets). It's cool if you think that's fun but that's not what I waited 10 years for. I'm open to changing the formula (I like pretty much all the games before 6) but 6 just tosses out the formula entirely to better appeal to a larger audience. >>1156008 Basically agree with this but I do like the PS3 era games. The singleplayer experience mostly got worse as the series went on though. I had hoped 6 would improve on that regard but all we got was FA-style target practice enemies and soulsslop. >>1156191 If you want the launch day 6 experience I'm pretty sure there's mods for that.
>>1005350 I don't think I could take playing a game where Robin Williams' arms are on-screen at all times.

>>1156008 I love FA, I'm just saying that every single person with an axe to grind over 6 places "they went too far in a few places..." squarely at the latest game and have mountains of excuses for every other game that did half the same shit or worse than it. The latest game is always the worst and the one to have finally ruined the entire franchise forever. And they're rarely just a little disappointed, it's always ruined forever and dead, but now it's also this histrionic ranting about SOULSHIT INFECTING THE FRANCHISE like From doesn't constantly and always put parts of their games into each other like a mountain family. They're gonna do something even weirder with the next game and the process will continue anyway. >>1156191 The patches changed way less than people say they did. It's mostly just "you didn't beat the game!" posting.
Has anyone played Lost Planet? I touched it briefly 12 year ago in a GameStop and recently played it back in 2024. Hard mode feels like like I'm supposed to spreed run the game to same T-energy, and oddly enough the starter SMG is the best weapon. I love the the VS designs, especially the Drio. I'm still stuck on Tencale. Fuck that giant moth
>>1157434 I only gotten through chapter 2 on AC4 but that's what I'm getting so far. I haven't tried melee since I haven't adjusted to the controls yet. >Higher turn speed = better at CQC. Yeah and it turned to dps race of bunny hopping everytime. I understand the turn speed mechanics, the optional parts were made for it to make it faster and you need to use it for some of the mission. But it was never mandatory of a core mechanics of the game. You said you like CQC build, but there's a lot others who played with different build. In fact 6 made it so you get your build without thinkering/buying/or equipping optional parts. The turn speed is never a problem unless you're focusing on some of your build like your CQC, some just compensate by boosting out and shoot, literally learning from enemy AC AI. I'm bothered more by the heating shit in Nexus, and how some of the ACs in Last Raven are blatanly cheating with their stats. You somehow make the turn speed a dealbreaker but it's more like your own preference than what AC game is about. You just pick one part and make it all about AC instead of looking at the whole package and then tell others that they're not playing an AC game. There's a term for that, I'll try searching it later.
>>1168809 I'm this >>1155928 if you're wondering.
>>1159195 I recently replayed it myself and it makes me feel bad. The experience of playing the first game feels like a big unsatisfying teaser for playing the second game, and you can't easily play that now. And then the whole franchise ended smothered at the altar of appealing to the western market. It's a pretty fun game for what could've been a great series but it's all just tears in the rain now.

>>1155913 >Anyone who dismisses 6 as "not real AC" but isn't spittle-flecking mad over the changes made in 4 or 5 is just a poser I played at least one entry in entry but 2; the jump in speed and being able to really feel like you're flying around the skies of the stage, was fun. I had fun with 5 even though it changed the speed again but added skidding down buildings which I hoped they did something more with, and a spike in difficulty from newer weapons being harder to get or whatever, forcing me to resort to guerilla warfare and instilling a strong sense in accomplishment when taking out multiple ACs with the lackluster equipment, made me happy (until I found out the shop was always online, which made me beyond pissed off). 6 on the other hand, pisses me off; they even gave it big ass open areas and instead of putting in broken equipment to find like old games, it's just the usual souls lore notes, the mechs are an afterthought for the giant machines that were peppered in the old games that felt like a change of pace so things wouldn't run together, they butchered the laser blade and put the machine gun on the same arm as it which obliterated my go to, and it makes me feel uninterested in changing parts of my AC. Its lack of an opening CG mecha fight should've been the biggest warning of all. DaemonXMachina has its issues like the giant enemies feeling overused too, feeling tiny, the shop just being weapons you built in the factory, and the pilot stuff feeling tacked on but it's the closest thing I know of to an honest Armored Core.

>>1155241 I have 50,000 hours in this series, extensively dabbled in romhacking of the PS2 Ac games to enable joystick usage in early gens, and even bought the limited time PSP portable ports. Armored Core 6 has every right to be called an AC game. It's a hell of a lot better than the trash that was the fourth gen or the fifth gen. >bro muh gotta go fast lightning speed mechs that destroy online latency >muh tacticool fat midget robots that can't even fly upward and need to kick buildings just to ascend vertically
I don't play mechs games and armored core 6 is a video game.
I played all of the PS1 and PS2 armored core games on emulators a couple years ago and I did not purchase Armored Core VI(tm): Fires of Rubicon.
My only real complaint with AC6 is that there's no real music. If there were songs playing for bgm like in the older games, I wouldn't mind it as much. Can't wait for the expansion that'll smooth out of the kinks like in the previous gens.

Part of me wishes we could get another proper Custom Robo/Medabots or possibly even a Phantom Crash and Steel Lancer Arena game, as much of a pipe dream as that would be. I know robo-battlers like CR and Medabots aren't technically mecha games, but they're still within the same ballpark and deserve more love, especially with the resurgence of interest in mecha/robot games that AC6 and a number of indie mecha games brought along.
>>1527243 There was a rumor from the Chinese of a Custom Robo game being made by the ARMS team, although in said rumors that was a bunch of stuff that turned out not to be true sadly.

So far I've watched/read TTGL, Code Geass, OG Macross/Robotech, Robotech, Evangelion, Getter Robo (haven't gotten to the later stuff though), Gunbuster, Diebuster, Bokurano, Aldnoah Zero, and Back Arrow (lmao). In terms of continuity it’s closer to Heavy Gear I and Storyline Book 2. The story of the game will fill in some of the gaps that were left due to the sudden transition from the Interpolar War to an interstellar plotline <Will the CEF/Black Talons/Caprice/Eden/House Kurita/My great-aunt be in the game? >Heavy Gear III is deliberately focusing on the original setup for Heavy Gear: the Confederated Northern City-States fighting the Allied Southern Territories for control of the Badlands.
