Even if you would live in the third world US, have a 90s car, with bad breaks, driving as fast as 85 mph, on a fucking ice that has snow on top, a moose jumps front of you or that truck does unexpected U-turn and you would have only 2 seconds to react, the car would still stop 390 meters (1,300 feet? ≈ 0.24 miles?) away safely and other drivers would have even more time to react because how slow your shit car breaks. In US, cars just see other car doing illegal thing and instead of breaking, they honk and kill themselves into the other car.
