Despite going my own way from online communities I still take part in them from time to time in an attempt to share ideas and just generally communicate with other people. The internet for a long time now has been a commercial enterprise. It's about what engages people and what makes money. Before that, there was a much higher chance for genuine discussions, although people online still ruined that with their behavior.
