why aren't you reverse engineering firearms anons? with free time and autism, you could be putting out open source technical data packages for firearms. hell you could even do it for cool stuff thats not available, like anything HOWA makes heres a quick roadmap to get you started: >reference picture collection start by collecting as many good pictures as you can. preferable are pictures with a high resolution, ones that give a good profile of the gun (normal to the side or other features in question), have items of known size in them (something measureable), or that show the internal components of the firearm. patent drawings are often an excellent (and usually accurately drawn) resource. >measurements next take your image editing software of choice and start taking pixel measurements. for each photo, put the measurements as a percentage of a common feature of the firearm, such as a proportion of the magazine, barrel length, or other known size feature. when you have enough measurement proportions (say, 5-10 per feature), input them in a spreadsheet and get the averages >modelling get acquainted with a 3d software of your choice. start modelling out your major features. if you come across something that seems contradictory, make a decision that makes the most sense as to which you should keep. dont be afraid to round up or down to convienient numbers (or standard stock sizes) if they're close. >part collection the next stage, if its possible. try to get 'critical parts' that can be used to infer the dimensions of other parts. think: bolt carriers, bolts, barrels, sight blocks/gas system components, trunnions etc.. the same goes for parts that you're unsure of the features because they couldn't be tracked down in pictures. use these to revise your 3d model >3d printing make a 3d print of your model so far. does it work with the parts you have? does it fit together at all? compare it to your pictures. does it look right? are there obvious differences (in proportions or missing features?). use this as an iterative process to get your model closer to reality. your eye is a precision instrument. >manufacturing this is where the cliff really comes in, but you'll find its very worth it if you make the jump. learn about metal working and making things in general. practice welding, machining, bending etc. buy tool and die books (you'll need them) and manufacturing process books to widen your knowledge. practice making things. get good at using a finger break. craft a plan of how to build the components of your firearm. make drawings of your custom tools, of your parts, and update them as you build them (make as built drawings). document EVERYTHING. when something works, record it for others. avoid making pressure bearing compnents (try to buy them) at first, but eventually with enough knowledge those will be game as well. >testing if you've made it this far, you'll have a good idea of how to safely test things. congratulations! even if you only make it part of the way through, your contributions can still be valuable. well, whats your excuse for not doing above? get at it!

Weird cartridges you remember people recommending during the ammo shortages in 2020-2022 /k/ommando 04/26/2025 (Sat) 05:51:08 No. 15018 [Reply]
I remember seeing some posts on 4chan of people saying they were going to buy a gun in a weird caliber so they didn't have to deal with the shortages that were going on at the time. I thought this idea was silly at the time (and I still do) but I still find it interesting. I like guns in weird calibers.

>>15118 i guess, but usually they says stock up on 22, not 32. Shoots basically the same i guess
>>15168 I worked loosely in the industry for a couple years and word was that after 2020 powder companies like hogdon were being major kikes cause they realized how much they can control the supply lines
>>15018 Kind of tangentially related. There is a Bass Pro Shops a couple of counties over that, during the panic over the riots plus the Rice Rabies, had not jack shit for centerfire rifle ammunition left on the shelves but rows and rows of faded boxes of Norma 7x61mm Sharpe & Hart. I think they keep them in a warehouse somewhere and during ammo panics, like just after the 2008 elections, the 2012 elections, 2020 elections, etc., etc., when Boomers who don't even own guns come in with the credit cards a-blazing and buy out everything on the shelves that goes "bang" because some Internet video cretin told them that in "WROL" they'll be able to trade bricks of .22 LR for food. Their basements are still full of it, and the next time there's an election where someone who promises to disarm Whitey wins, the next time there is widespread "social unrest," they'll go out and buy another ten pallet loads of 5.56mm, 12 gauge, 9mm, and .22, then, when those have all vanished, everything else, Half of them will never so much as open a carton and all that ammo will sit in their basements and hall closets until the estate sale. The other half will neckbeard it on Armslist for beer money. "Dontcha like muh capitalism, bwah? Are you some kinda RED, bwah?" You don't hate Boomers enough. You think you do, but you don't.. >weird cartridges Back before I gave up on gun shows completely, which was several years before the Wu Flu, I had a surreal conversation with some Boomer fudd who was trying to hard-sell me on the virtues of the .38 Super 1911 he was trying to sell. Sorry, Gramps. 38 Super is ballistically essentially identical and indistinguishable from 9mm, especially if we're talking about a 1911 that doesn't feed hollowpoints worth a damn. Nobody cares about 38 Super but Mexicans, Boomers from west of the Mississippi, and insufferable Zoomer gun hipsters. It is a cartridge that was obsolete one year after its introduction. John Moses Browning had his hits and his misses. This is one of his misses. All the Internet shills trying so hard to shill 30 Super Carry a couple of years back come to mind, too, but that was after the Kung Flu.

6.5 creedmoor vs 308 winchester /k/ommando 04/24/2025 (Thu) 00:18:18 No. 14503 [Reply]
Does the 308 Winchester beat the 6.5 creedmoor in any situation? Just looking on the stats the 6.5 seems to have a longer range, flatter trajectory, yet has the lethality of the 308.
3 posts omitted.
>>14503 Barrel life with 6.5cm is typically about half of .308 barrel life. Also, inside 500 yards, .308 is as good, or better, depending on the load. Hunting or fighting, past 500 yards and you want a larger payload than 6.5cm anyway. And I’ve never hunted past 300 yards. I know some do, and they always bring something like .300win mag or 7mm prc etc. Is 6.5cm a more efficient cartridge than .308? Yes absolutely. But its actual practical application is paper punching between 600 and 1200 yards.
>>14852 Pretty much this. .308 for some type of hunting or barrier penetration within 500 yards is probably better. I switched over to 6.5 because I want more precision all around, and wind with .308 really can fuck with it, even at three to four-hundred yards. 6.5 is still more than powerful enough for the most dangerous game at any range, and I've got a .308 hunting rifle for hunting anything in NA. So yeah hunting deer, moose, elk, bear up to 400 yards I would stick with .308.
Availability. Price per round. Energy. The 6.5 Creedmeme's sole advantage over the .308 is that, in the event that you have to make a Bob Lee Swagger shot at three quarters of a mile, it stays supersonic a little longer and shoots flatter by a single red cunt hair. There are no public ranges near me where you can shoot centerfire rifle further than 200 yards, and the closest 200 yard rifle range is over an hour's drive from where I live. I don't hate the Creedmeme but it's the answer to a question nobody asked, just like .300 Memeout. There's no reason for either one to exist, and there's nothing they do so much better than cartridges that existed already to constitute a compelling argument for making the switch. They will soon enough join 6.8mm SPC, the Winchester Short Action Ultra Mag cartridges, the Remington Ultra Mag cartridges, .30 Super Carry, the .21 Sharps, and all the .17 rimfires on the Island of Misfit Toys with the .41 Magnum, 9x25mm Dillon, .401 Herters Power Magnum, .25 ACP, .22 Short, .357 SIG, 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum, .30 Krag, .236 Lee Navy, .219 Zipper, .264 Winchester Magnum, 7-30 Waters, 7mm Valkyrie, 6.5mm CBJ, and many, many more "innovative" creations that nobody asked for and nobody wanted.

Can you faggots help a weaponlet out? I've never owned a gun before, have little experience shooting them, and have no idea what to buy. I have a budget of $1,000 and want at least a couple reliable guns out of that. I don't want bolt action, pump action, or an ak and definitely want a couple guns that are semi automatic. In case anyone asks it's mostly about home defense but being able to hunt deer with one of them would be a bonus.
3 posts omitted.
>>15281 I'm going to be the boring guy and suggest that you start out with a semiauto .22 rifle. Learn the fundamentals. Learn to shoot with the iron sights. Learn to shoot from positions. Learn trigger control. If there's an Appleseed or RWVA event in your area it's a very good way both to get some training and instruction by knowledgeable people and meet like-minded individuals. Some have suggested the Ruger 10/22. It's a good design, very popular, with excellent availability of spare parts and aftermarket stuff. There is also stuff like the Turkish .22 rifles imported by Rock Island Armory. i got to look at one this morning, from a local sporting goods chain that was blowing them out for $99.99. The $150 or so price difference would get you a lot of .22 ammo but the gun did not impress me as being well made. A beginner could do worse for something to use to learn, but the plastic scope mounting rail and plastic front sight base did not fill me with confidence. Also the front sight was injection molded plastic and crooked on top. Once you are competent with a rifle and iron sights, then you are likely to have enough experience to have formed opinions about what you want next. Do you have an interest in handguns or is it long guns only for you?
>>15332 I'm going to be the asshole and say if handling is what you want to practice, then just get a cheap .177 air rifle. Ammo is cheaper than a .22, however it has less utility if you actually want to kill something.

>>15281 $1000 is not enough for everything you want first - go to local gun range and take the intro class a few hours of classroom and several hours on the range trying different pistols revolvers etc second - more training see files third - home defense depends on your size handguns kick alot and 38/9m can hurt your hands if you practice alot maybe 32/22 revolvers are easier to maintain but harder to shoot than semi-automatics best of luck.........

Tombstone 9mm lever action Anonymous 01/04/2023 (Wed) 17:53:01 No. 1294 [Reply]
The Tombstone 9MM is POF-USA’s take on a lever-action rifle. Tombstone is a modern-lever-action chambered in a pistol caliber, initially offered in 9MM. The rifle comes with the same proven 20-round standard magazine, or optional 10-round, that accompanies the POF-USA Phoenix. The Tombstone’s compact overall length is just 36” and comes in at an ultra-lightweight 5.75lbs (unloaded weight). The trigger is a proprietary non-adjustable design, featuring a smooth pull and crisp break of 3.5lbs. The 16.5” free-floating 4150 steel barrel is complimented by POF’s 10.5” Modular Receiver Rail (M.R.R.), with M-Lok slots at the 3, 6, 9 and a 2” picatinny rail at the 12 position. The integrated XS Ghost Ring sights allow for quick target acquisition and POF’s removable dual port muzzle break is ideal for fast follow-up shots. Its total length is 16 and a half inches. So a little over a foot.

>>14166 My best guess is that there are hobbyists who think it looks like a prop from Firefly, and therefore it's neat. And, you know, it kind of DOES look like a prop from Firefly. In a marketplace oversaturated, overloaded, and completely clogged with polymer framed striker-fired 9mm service pistols and flattop AR15 derivatives with rails on every possible surface, do not discount the desire for novelty. Look at how many people whip out their wallets to buy Mateba revolvers, which are, objectively, a terrible design, which break their internals constantly and spray white-hot high-pressure propellant gasses out of a barrel-cylinder gap that's a fraction of an inch from the user's index finger. Look at Kel-Tec products and how much in demand they are. They always sell well above MSRP. It may have a mechanism made out of recycled beer cans put inside an old plastic super-soaker and screwed together with twenty allen screws, but at least it's not another black plastic Glawk clone, amirite? Chinese exposed-hammer coach guns made out of waste material from a nail factory bolted to a butter-soft chu wood stock, potmetal Single Action Army lookalikes in .22 LR, beat-all-to-shit old police revolvers. Have you priced AKs lately? People can't get enough of them. Because at least it's not black plastic with a STANAG magazine. At least it's not yet another striker fired 9mm with a plastic frame and stamped sheet metal internals. I am not the least bit surprised that the demand for objectively stupid, objectively pointless "space cowboy" guns outstrips supply. Because at the end of the day, for most of us, this is a hobby. I too am guilty of going to gun stores and searching for anything that's new and different and fun.

Technically they recieved it in January, but for training purposes in Germany.
>>15214 Like all things the various European countries that support the Holols have to figure out how to smuggle it there so Russia doesn't just immediately bomb the thing with a Shaheed drone once they figure out what it is. >>15227 >Technically they recieved it in January For all we know they already have a few, just not the bulk of the SPA's. I've long suspected Ukraine had a small quantity of HIMAR's and F16's long before they or their backers declared them officially.
