Board Owner Support and Migration Requests Codexx Root 12/13/2020 (Sun) 05:27:09 Id: abfacc No. 1651
This thread is for Board Owners to get support for running their boards. How do I create a board? First, you should see if the board you want to create already exists. Some boards may be marked abandoned, in which case you can put in a board claim. If the board doesn't exist, you can create one yourself. Create an account or log-in by visiting the lightning bolt symbol next to the CSS dropdown at the top of the page. Once there, make sure you have a verified e-mail address. Then, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and find the board creation section. Enter the URI, name, and a description. After you fill out the captcha and submit, you'll have your very own board. How do I claim an existing board? A board will be marked abandoned if the Board Owner has not logged in for a few weeks. Sometimes, this indicates they've gone missing. If the BO cannot be reached then we will hand the board over to a willing replacement. We recommend sending an e-mail to the administration address of 8moeadmin@protonmail.com. Please include your username on the site and the board you are requesting. How do I create custom CSS? There is an upload field on the board settings page for custom CSS. Upload your file there. Custom board assets such as background images, mascots, icons, music, etc should be posted in the appropriate thread on >>>/res/. This board is for board assets only. This way, you don't need to clutter your board with a pinned asset, or worry an uploaded image will fall off the site. How do I create custom JavaScript? This feature is currently disabled. Soon, you'll be able to request custom JS be activated for your board. You can leave that request here. I am moving my board in from another website. How can I request a migration? We're happy to move or archive boards from other websites at the board owner's request. Please contact me directly at codexx@cock.li with the name of your board on this site, a link to the board on another site, and some kind of proof you are the board owner. Generally, a screenshot of your board management page or a capcoded post on the board to be imported is sufficient. Currently we offer imports for boards on Vichan and LynxChan websites. JSChan support will arrive in the near future. What rules do I need to enforce on my board? Just the global rules, which are minimal and mostly consist of deleting illegal content. If your board is marked as Safe for Work (SFW), you will need to spoiler any images that show genitalia, scat, guro, etc. Globals will only police global rules on your board. You're welcome to add more rules on top of this, but you and your volunteers are responsible for enforcing them. How do I label my board as "Safe For Work"? Leave a request in this thread for a board to be marked as such, or send us an e-mail from your verified address. Your board must be reasonably about SFW content, and NSFW content must be spoilered so it does not show on the front page or overboard. We may label boards SFW or NSFW at our own discretion based on the average content on the board. If you would like its designation changed specifically, then please notify us of your preference. Why was captcha enabled on my board? If you set an automated captcha threshold in board settings, then captchas will be enabled on your board once a set number of posts/threads per hour limit is hit. The setting will not undo itself; you need to manually turn the captcha back off again each time. Still, we recommend setting a PPH captcha limit a bit above your usual peak PPH; this helps limit spam attacks. What if my question wasn't answered here? Reply with your question and we will try to answer as quickly as possible.

The original BO lounge thread was merged with the banner thread because the topic devolved into banner ideas, so this thread will be the new BO and Volunteer lounge. Shitpost about your board and users here.
Can I still view Unlinked file? Chosing those options lead to different urls https://8chan.moe/unlinkSingle.js?boardUri= (board and threadID) =index=4 https://8chan.moe/unlinkSingle.js?boardUri= (board and threadID) =1&delete=1 so I assume these options is different. It is possible for BO to see an unlinked file?
>>2029 Unlinking a file just removes it from a post. However, if that is the only place on the site the file is hosted, it may be purged from the site entirely pretty soon after. I'm not 100% certain on unlink and delete. I believe that, globally, it can instantly remove an image, but I'm not sure if the behavior changes for BOs.
I'm BO of /ai/. It looks like 1 thread in my place is locked from bumping https://8chan.moe/ai/res/7.html#100 This is the post, I make sure sage is off. I don't use bump lock either. https://8chan.moe/ai/ index view, the thread is unbumped
>>2038 Playing around with it. It's not updating the thread's bump date in the database, despite everything working right. It's late, so I'll continue investigating tomorrow evening. Also, I tripped your PPH captcha. You'll need to manually disable it.
>>2039 Me again. I get it now I set the "non-cyclic thread bump limit" for 3 months that's why.
>>2039 > PPH captcha. You'll need to manually disable it. Just to be sure, you refer to Captcha mode, right?
>>2046 Oh, that makes sense. I forgot that was an option. Seems to be rarely used. >>2047 Yes. If either of the "Enable captcha for..." options (above tags, below thread limits) are set, and the number of posts/threads meets or exceeds the limit, then Captcha Mode will automatically be set to either Threads Only or All Posts depending on which one tripped. It will not unset itself, you must manually reset the captcha mode to None. When we update the settings layout, we'll add a warning. But it surprised a few BOs in the past when they hit a high PPH and expected it to unset itself after some time.
>>2048 > expected it to unset itself after some time I see the full picture now. Got it.

I got 2 stories related to this Smug /a/ was so infested with vtubers and people complaining about it that they went to their support Board to complain. So they make a vtuber board. Smug /a/ is fast in weird place, I don’t trust BO of this site vtuber board >>2056 >being slower than smug/a/? It was 2015/6 in 4chan/vg/. One morning (in 4chan timezone) a rogue mod delete all but 2 threads in /vg/. Dunno if he stop because a higher mod find out or it was on purpose. The 2 that doesn’t get deleted are the de facto meta thread filled with crossboarder and a dead game thread, both are my home threads.
>>2064 > I don’t trust BO of this site vtuber board Why not?
>>2064 I should've arranged my post better >>2055 I clicked when he only made 2 posts and I couldn't make a new thread. he's at 62 replies now. >>2056 I don't understand how you guess "Couldn't take being slower than smug/a/?" just from those 2 posts >>2066 Last month I check when it was newly created. The way the board is handled is like Smug, it is more like containment board. "here's your board, don't care what happen there as long as you don't post in /a/" as oppose to made by someone who care about it. That was 4 weeks ago. I check it now and nothing changes.
Is there a way to enable custom flags without location flags showing if one isn't selected?
>>2077 After talking to Stephen and playing around with it a bit, I think you do the following: >upload custom flag in Manage Flags page >set Location Flags to Disabled The behavior seems to be: >Disabled No location flags. >Enabled Location flags given by default, but custom flag will override. Users can select a checkbox to not show location, however. >Mandatory Users cannot opt out of location. Custom may override.

>>2078 Thanks, that worked.
How many posts do cycling threads hold and can the number be changed and when will it be possible to change the number.
>>2090 As far as I know, cyclic threads cap at the global bump limit. Currently, that's 600. It doesn't look like there's a way to change that. Boards with smaller bump limits do not have smaller cyclic threads. There's certainly no way to make it larger.
>>2092 how ridiculous, who wants to keep opening a thread with 600 posts in it.
>>2094 That's how cyclic has always worked. I can see about modifying it so you can reduce the number of posts in cyclics, but it will probably always be tied to the autosage limit.
What happened to my banners? Its like they all got resized to a forced, unreasonably small resolution.
>>2109 Add the following to your board's CSS: #bannerImage {height: unset !important} The new CSS prevents reflow, but you can set any height you want (or none).
How i can activate dice rolling in my board? Or The dice option isn't available for The moment?
>>2143 Also, how i can active the id system in my board?
>>2143 Dice rolling is global. Use the following syntax: /roll{1d6} 1d6 = 3 >>2144 Uncheck the "Disable Threadwise IDs" setting.

Posting a custom CSS I made based on a theme from a dead site.
>>2195 Fixed an error with selected posts.
>>2048 > Captcha Mode will automatically be set to either Threads Only or All Posts I say this is a great anti-spam filter for BO without any volunteer. Please consider keeping this behavior as option if dev team find how to fix it.
I just created a new board (>>>/c/) that is supposed to be SFW, however, i can't find a way on the management page to mark the board as SFW. Any help?
>>2287 I just took care of that for you. When you're logged in as BO, at the bottom of every page on your board (index, catalog or individual thread) you'll see a few options. The SFW tickbox is in Moderate Board instead of Board Management. I'll mention that to the guys.
>>2288 Thanks for that. Just one thing, the "Moderate Board" option seems to be only available for global staff. Clicking on it returns a 500 error even on my own boards.

How do I allow javascript upload in my board? I tried these but I still can't.
If you spoilered an image as BO, how do you 'un-spoiler' it again?
Question for the admins. What's your official stance on 3DCG loli/shota porn? Every porn board has a different rule about it: /loli/ and /tot/ only allow material with an anime/cartoon style (although currently there isn't a 3DCG thread), /delicious/ rules state the same but actually allow more realistic 3DCG porn of characters from games and mods, /sm/ has a strange rule where realistic works are allowed if they have an obvious fantasy element (like known fictional characters, monsters or weird physical bodies), and /ss/ changes the rule every day (yesterday it was no 3DCG at all, and today is the same as /sm/'s). Is there a global definition on "how realistic is too realistic for the site" regarding 3DCG works that all boards can follow? Here are each boards' respective 3DCG threads so you can see the kind of content allowed on each board: >>>/delicious/184 >>>/sm/4965 >>>/ss/147 >>2325 You can't as far I know. Save them as .txt instead and tell others to change the filename.
>>2332 >Save them as .txt Okay, I will wait 1 more week in case our site got sudden update. >Every porn board has a different rule about it >mfw my board rule on that is simply no het but even that is shaky if it enter gender bender territory
>>2331 I don't think you can. And there's certainly no option to spoiler files individually. Both are on my wishlist, though. To some extent, I think the engine assumes a spoilered file won't have a thumbnail. It might, but there's a chance it couldn't. >>2332 We want to allow as much content as possible. Once you get into 3DCG, it becomes a much dicier legal area. If it looks realistic such that it looks real at first glance then it can't stay and US law treats that are identical to child porn. If it's cartoony and obviously not real then it's safe. If it depicts a real child in a 3D medium, it's my understanding that this is also illegal. Where's the line in the middle? Really hard to say. If you stick to cartoons then expect to be safe. If you push the line further and further towards realism, there's going to be a point where globals will start responding to it. At the end of the day, none of us want to study CP to determine if it's a 3D render or not.
>>2341 Welp, this certainly doesn't solve my doubts about exactly what is considered "too realistic" for the admins. There's 3DCG porn of original characters that actually try to look realistic but fail due to the lack of ability of the modeler, extremely realistic and detailed porn of fictional characters (like Sarah from TLoU), and a mix of both (fictional characters with "underage" OC). It's a complex subject that needs clear limits.
>>2342 >It's a complex subject that needs clear limits. It's hard to place clear limits on a complex subject. Don't depict real people or use them as a basis for the model. Most other content will be fine. Very few artists can produce photorealistic renders. Anything that is cartoonish or fantastical will be fine.
>>2342 If you use common sense in what you post, we'll use common sense in cutting you slack with things that might be over that blurry line by deleting them without a ban. Like it or not, the law is subjective in this matter. So we have to be subjective as well. We just want to do it without being a pain in everyone's ass, if we can.

How would I make the text in my 'Board Message' act as a hyperlink to other boards, without the ugly >>>// visible? Similar to how >>>/sm/ does it, with text functioning as a hyperlink without a visible URL or >>>//
>>2747 Use the following markdown: [label](https://www.8chan.moe/) I'm not sure it's documented anywhere, so I'll get it added to the BO guide.
>>2747 Just don't add the //. Whatever you put inside [ ] will be part of the hyperlink, be it >>>/board/ or board. >>2751 ><a href="/board/">>>>/board/</a> Alright, I didn't expect to get the html code. It should say >>>/board/

how do i embed audio to autoplay on loop without a visible player? sankyu
>>2779 Also how do I add a custom font? Is there any documentation about this anywhere?
>>2779 You'd need custom JavaScript for that, and autoplay is... weird. What are the exact conditions for boards to become abandoned? Gahoole completely disavowed 8moe by unlinking it from tvch and banning people that disagree with him on that decision. /tv/ on here is completely dead, and yet it still seems like he owns it. Would it be possible for me to become its new owner?
>>2918 Is there any point to a /tv/ board? We already have >>>/vhs/ and that barely has traffic itself.
>>2919 I want to bring new life into it. I'd rather have /tv/ than /vhs/ because legacy boards will almost always attract more attention.
>>2919 Also, I'm sure I can steal at least a few posters from tvch. Gahoole is a shit owner so it shouldn't be too hard to get a least the ones that put in some effort rather than the absolute garbage shitposters.

>It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly sell, market, advertise, exchange, or distribute an animal crush video in, or using a means or facility of, interstate or foreign commerce. >the term “animal crush video” means any photograph, motion-picture film, video or digital recording, or electronic image that— >(A) depicts animal crushing; and >(B) is obscene; and
>>2964 >the term “animal crush video” means >>(A) depicts animal crushing lol, what does that even mean

>>2968 'member when /b/ posted guro, loli, br torture, snuff, niglets and everyone was fine, but the moment someone posted cat being kicked, thread went apeshit? I love those times
>>2979 >purposely So you can't distribute that but it's okay with humans? What kind of retarded logic is that?
>>2989 First reason that comes to mind is we don't really keep tabs on the lives of most animals. A wild squirrel or your own domestic cat, you can kill it pretty much any way you want and no one will ever look into it. With a human, people are going to look into what happened to them. So, that in mind, you could suppose gore will influenc emore people to want to do it. Animal abuse is something anyone with passing whimsy could try out, and do it a TON with no consequence. Since hurting humans is hard to get away with, whimsy is probably not going to make it happen. If it does happen, they aren't getting away with it nearly as easily. This is the only perspective that makes sense to me. It's a preventative measure, trying to stop would-be crime that is otherwise hard to find out about. Think of that what you will.
>>2989 As I understand it it only applies to commercial distribution and the only cases I can find are people who produced crush videos. It also has to be 'Obscene', but not sure whatever that exactly means.
If someone breaks global rules on my board, i.e. posting "media depicting the sexual abuse of real children", how should I deal with that? Should I just ban them from my board and delete the media, or globally report them and delete the media to make sure a global mod globally bans them? Is there any way to spoiler individual images instead of all images in a reply? Is there any way to move a reply to a thread to a different thread, similar to thread merging?
>>3072 I've always just done "delete post and media" and ban with reason "cp" or similar. It makes the most sense to me.
>>3072 >If someone breaks global rules on my board, i.e. posting "media depicting the sexual abuse of real children", how should I deal with that? >>3072 >Is there any way to move a reply to a thread to a different thread, This thread itself is a big example of no. >>3075 >submit both local and global reports if they appear to be posting on other boards I don't have this problem but shouldn't we global report on the first instance regardless?
>>3072 >>3075 >>3089 For now, just remove what you can as soon as you see it and hand out bans as appropriate. Once the 2.6 update lands, there will be a new recommended set of steps. No ability to move posts between threads at the moment, just to merge threads.

What does "Don't index on top boards" mean? Does that prevent my board from appearing on overboard? Since this option is glued to "board list" I suspect it could meant something else.
Can threads be moved between boards? For example, move a thread from /v/ to /b/, or merge it with a thread on another board. >>3136 By enabling that setting your board won't appear on the board list, overboard and top board navbar, leaving direct URLs and crosslinking as the only ways to access it.
>>3137 >won't appear on the overboard Oh I hadn't thought about that before. Now I'm really curious what's hidden out there. >Can threads be moved between boards? I think we've been told no, but you could try with merge /b/23456 instead of just a post number alone and tell us if anything happens, or whatever board you want. I'm going with probably not. There's likely some very silly shittery you can get up to with that power.
>>3137 Threads can be moved between boards, but the permission required is pretty high. Root/Admin can do it. I think Globals can't, but they might be able to.
>>3138 >I'm really curious what's hidden out there I only know about >>>/voxxe/ and >>>/2dblacked/ >>3139 Uh, I assumed any BO with two or more boards could do it.

(7.25 KB 300x100 loli captcha.jpg)

>>3144 You really can't. I think the best approach could be to add a badge on the board list to the boards with custom Javascript (similarly to how SFW boards are marked as such) and maybe an option in the settings panel to disable custom Javascript.
I want to learn CSS so that I can make my board look more unique, but it looks like there's a lot of specific things that you need to know the proper name of in order to edit imageboard specific with CSS, like greentext and the banner. Is there a list of these that I can see somewhere? I tried looking at examples, but the examples are always incomplete.
>>3148 You can set the default Yotsuba B theme on a thread and use the element inspector to check the name and attributes of every part you want to tweak.
What exactly is an ASN? The moderation manual never explains this. I thought it was some IP Address like identification number, but different posters seem to sometimes have the same ASN, and some posts don't have one at all. Also, it doesn't seem to ever disappear from a post like the IP does after a certain amount of time. Also, is there any way to give posts IDs while moderating on a board that doesn't have them for users. The original 8chan had this feature, but that was made with Infinity instead of lynxchan, so maybe it's not possible. >>3149 I didn't know the inspector let you see CSS names like that. Thanks.
>>3157 An ASN is basically a sub-number assigned to a block of IP addresses. A company can apply to get an ASN from the same groups that actually "hand out" IP addresses, then group a number of IP addresses under a single ASN to make organization of these users easier for the ISP/agency that requested it. If you have a look at https://www.whatismyip.com/asn/ you can see how many ASNs exist for each country, then drill even deeper and see what each ASN represents on a case-by-case basis. A Torposter will never have an ASN, and as far as moderation is concerned it's something that I would recommend you never use to base your judgments off of. With VPNs being as widespread as they are, the likelihood of an ASN being an accurate way to moderate your board is vanishingly slim.
>>3169 Thank you. So it sounds like ASN bans are basically just a way to ban the IPs of the organization the IP that made the post belongs to. That does sound pretty useless, and they probably aren't reliable for recognizing users either. But then, why are ASNs kept around on posts seemingly forever, while IP hashes appear to be deleted after about a week. That seems inconsistent.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/06/15/fact-sheet-national-strategy-for-countering-domestic-terrorism/ Soo since Incel is now terrorism, can I global report if I find someone in my board being incel?
>>3186 Is there a way to test a man to see if hes had sex? So whats to stop the incel from just saying he has a GF in canada?
>>3183 >they probably aren't reliable for recognizing users either. No more or less than a user's IP. Any dedicated spammer is doing their thing either via Tor/Redchanit or a VPN, so either of those is functionally useless for recognizing them. >But then, why are ASNs kept around on posts seemingly forever, while IP hashes appear to be deleted after about a week I suspect it has something to do with IP addresses potentially being dynamic, whereas the ASN will likely be static. That is purely speculation but it makes sense to me, even if its efficacy as a tool hinges entirely on the assumption that users will not often be using VPNs or Tor (which is why I don't recommend using or relying on it). With that said however, it may simply be a design decision to protect a poster's privacy. I'll do some digging and find a more satisfactory answer because now I'm curious too. Also, to clarify what I said in >>3169, >A Torposter will never have an ASN is not accurate. Torposters will have ASNs if they are using certain exit nodes that are run by companies or agencies. This is why you will occasionally see a poster with no IP address but an ASN. Not all exit nodes have ASNs. Finally, to answer your question I missed in >>3157, >is there any way to give post IDs while moderating on a board that doesn't have them for users? No, but you can kludge a workable solution pretty easily. When you're logged in as a volunteer/BO, you can hit "Moderate Thread" at the bottom of any thread, which will reload the thread with moderation tools enabled - which will display a poster's bypass ID underneath their posting name, date etc.
>>3189 >I'll do some digging and find a more satisfactory answer because now I'm curious too. I just had a chance to ask Stephen what the justification is for IPs to disappear but ASNs not to, and he confirmed it's a conscious design decision in order to maintain user privacy. IPs are specific, but ASNs are less so.

Is there a way to have custom text pages for your boards like you could with Infinity? I want to explain what my board's about and how it works, but I don't want to do that with a pinned and locked thread that clogs up the index.
>>3202 Not at the moment, but if you want to write a custom page I'd be happy to host it under the static directory for the time being.
What is this "Reset auto board lock" button? I didn't see this before.
>>3205 Would I be able to edit the page afterwords without having to bother you guys? I'll probably get the wording wrong for a little bit because I'm new to running a board, but I'd rather not have to be like "hey could you lemme change that page again I forgot to mention something".
What does it mean for a warning/ban to be "non-bypassable". I always check it because I course I don't want users to evade bans, but I don't know what leaving it unchecked does.
If a vol abuses their power by, for example, reading post histories and harassing users reddit-style, is there any way for a BO to identify which vol that is? As far as I know, there isn't. Even if they use their #rs to post in a way that proves they're abusing their power, there isn't a way to know which vol that is if they don't say which one they are?
>>3218 Leaving the non-bypassable box unchecked means that a banned user will simply need to get a new bypass to get around the ban. Leaving it checked will ban the bypass+IP combination, so if either of those try to post during the ban's timeframe they'll be stopped. >>3220 There are no tools to identify who's who when it comes to role signatures, and there are also no tools to see when a vol or BO checked someone's post history. That said, I have to ask: what is "harassing users reddit-style"?
>>3221 I guess stuff like bringing up what people post in other threads to discredit them, or similar dumb nonsense like that. Going to a thread of writing prompts and pointing out that one of the writers is also a furry anon in another thread, "doxing" things like finding a bunch of small real life references in unconnected contexts that they can only link together by knowing it's the same IP Things that normally can't be done unless people have usernames, like on reddit
>>3222 (checked) I understand. Unfortunately there's no mechanism at the BO (or even admin) level to find out who in fact is behind that sort of thing, outside of using some detective work of your own and stalking their post histories.
>>3221 So if I give a user a normal (bypassible) ban does it just prompt them to get a new bypass when they try to post? I don't see the use it making it so easy to get around a 5 day ban for example.
>>3224 What exactly does "bypass check" do on a post? Is it related?
>>3224 Bypassable Bans normally apply to range/ASN bans, which are tools provided to deal with botnets and spammers. Because we require a bypass to begin with, the option isn't very useful. You can safely ignore it. The ban is applied to the bypass as well as the IP by default. >>3243 That's for sites which make bypasses optional, to ensure you have one before posting. This is useful for other configurations of LynxChan. I've been debating removing the button, but I don't want to make our frontend unusable for other configurations.
What is the rule for Bestiality again? My board don't directly forbid it but last time I ask in other thread, someone reply that it is forbidden by usa law >>1892 there it is
>>3248 /loli/ BO? Acid is in >>>/zoo/ meta thread mentioning the status on bestiality
>>3249 Got it.
>>3248 >>3249 >>3250 That was my post. My initial interpretation was that it covered anything potentially harmful to animals being filmed and distributed. However, upon reading the law, it explicitly lists multiple forms of abuse but it silent on sexual acts involving them. Per Acid's post on /zoo/, it's fine as long as the animals are not being harmed, so no animals in pain, being tortured, or otherwise becoming injured as a result. To the best of our knowledge, distributing video of these acts is legal in the US everywhere but Oregon. Please stick a disclaimer on any threads warning off Oregonians. If the guidance changes, we'll be sure to notify everyone, but for now there appears to be few barriers to hosting this content.

If one of your board volunteers decides to sperg out and nuke the whole board or do some other damaging action, is there a way to undo that, or do you just gotta deal with the consequences and hope you pick a more trustworthy vol next time.
>>3259 The backup system exists for this reason, and was put to the test last April Fools when Tengu decided to nuke /v/ and /interracial/ as a joke.

>Obscene textual depictions involving sex acts with real children. >real children This is incorrect. A story posted on my board was globally deleted despite the first line stating it's a requested loli story and showing the prompt, and the contents of the story being a big stretch to be real. The way it's enforced, as well as this statement by Acid explicitly calling out fanfiction, means the rule is very misworded and will result in breaches of the rule from people with honest intentions that genuinely believe they are abiding the rules. This is all, of course, only relevant if the many very very strong arguments agianst the rule entirely such as >>3307 are rejected. Please word rules the way they are to be enforced. On a related note, while I'm at it, there's still people confused by the loli conflated with pedo note. >Legal, fictional 2D or 3DCG artwork is not prohibited and is not to be conflated with pedophilia or any content banned under this rule. And several have asked that, for clarity, it be shortened to <Legal, fictional 2D or 3DCG artwork is not prohibited and is not to be conflated with any content banned under this rule. I'm mostly just not wanting any more people getting in a tizzy that the site bans you from saying loli is pedo when it clearly doesn't.

>>3310 Codexx and I had a long discussion about this, and there may be a compromise on that rule coming soon. Or at least implementing it in a way that makes it easier for anons to understand and follow without misgivings. Please be patient.
>>3321 You've probably already seen them but I think you should read my posts in the other thread and examine the case this is based on before making any further clarifications to the rules: >>3307 >>3309 I honestly don't see how compromise is needed when the whole thing seems to be based on the same obscenity laws that this site justifiably ignores when it comes to loli and "offensive" pornography in general. As far as I can tell there's no law or reasonable interpretation of the law that bans text but not drawings (including the example of the 5 stories and 3 drawings that specific guy was charged for). For that matter the same laws can be and are used against subjectively offensive pornography featuring adults. Text is fundamentally safer legally than images, the only laws that can hit it are the generic obscenity laws that can also hit anything else, so making the rules more strict regarding text does not create additional legal security. One of the things that does create security is the fact these are entirely different kinds of sites, he was individually approving, posting, and selling the "obscene material" himself and this site is merely allowing user content posted by third-parties. And if they somehow decided to try going after site owners for obscene user content, which I don't think is legally viable, they would hit something like Asstr or Sadpanda long before this site. Asstr has been around since the 90s, is the biggest and best-known erotic story site by far, has allowed stories with minors this whole time, and if you google "asstr" one of the suggested subdomains is "Loliwood Studios: Child-erotica stories, series and novels by some of the best authors".
>>3321 >coming soon
>>3328 Clearly an attempt to try and make us bad actors more docile while they do absolutely nothing to address the issue. As they've already established amongst themselves these are only issues that bad actors like us with an ulterior motive of destroying the site have so why would they address them? I wish their latest discussion would leak as well so we can have some more examples of their utter disdain for us but I bet they were a lot more careful with the privacy of their conversation this time around.
>>3334 Since you supposedly care about this so much, make yourself useful by making a PACER account and buying some of the relevant legal documents with the RECAP browser extension so they're publicly archived. $0.10 per page, up to $3 per document, and they waive the fee if it's less than $30 in 3 months. https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/16474654/united-states-v-arthur/ https://free.law/recap/ https://pacer.uscourts.gov/register-account I think just the information we already have is enough to show why the case shouldn't actually result in a change in policy, but it might be nice to have some of the details as well.

>>3936 >>3937 You don't delete things from the bin. They delete themselves after a couple days, or admins will remove it if it's illegal. >>3948 >It's possible to maliciously proxy a website, so we disabled that. You'll have to use the site's API. This might be a dumb question but how do I do that?
Please consider making trashed post look different from regular ones on the board list (or appear in a separate list if possible). They look the same and is frustrating to see shit posts on the list, try to remove them and then realize that they already were trashed. Additionally consider reverting the behavior of the posts list to how it was before the update. opening the posts used to direct you to the regular thread, but now opening them directs you to the "mod" version of the thread, which is inferior since it displays live and trashed posts in the same way and has non-working index/catalog buttons (they direct to the front page).

>>4087 Good News: I cobbled together a workable scraping implementation for Yotsuba into ChannelChanger. It is available under the "yotsuba" development branch. Bad news: It looks like the thread you were requesting has expired from the site, and the archive doesn't appear to mirror the JSON, just the HTML and thumbnails. However, this means you can scrape other threads going forward, and once I refactor the importer it should be trivial to include Yotsuba data, since the API is similar to Vichan's, which will be supported explicitly. I probably won't pull this into master until I have a chance to refactor the scraper. It wasn't designed to handle multiple subdomains like how halfchan is configured, so I did some hacky things to bolt support on. Let me know if there are any bugs. I found some time tonight to knock this out because dev time this weekend will be non-existent, but I can make some tweaks afterwards.

Here are some options so far A) 2-3 threads based on production ex professional porn vs homemade (with high production value) vs amateur B) 2 threads based on race ex East Asian vs anything else C) the last plan is something between:.a JAV and a porn thread. JAV is easy to define (and search) since most of them have production code (normal jav industry, FC2, Caribbean). So the other thread can be Porn General which should cover anything that JAV thread doesn’t cover. But then if JAV thread is strictly for professional, where do Japanese amateur goes? Is it possible to have an 8kunt board migration if you don't own it, but its pretty much abandoned? More importantly, is there any way to back up the media if it seems to be all gone?

>>4932 >random faggot global mod comes and deletes 400 text posts who didn't do anything wrong Where? >if it breaks rule 2, should me as a board owner even have the power to restore them? Not really, but Lynxchan's trashcan is implemented in a retarded way. If an user or mod deletes a post with images without removing the files first (by pressing "Unlink Files") the images will continue to be available to be seen in the trashcan or by anyone who knows the exact URL of the media. The only way to completely purge a file from the servers is by going to the [Moderate Thread] page, and click on "Unlink and Delete Files" button. Clicking on "Unlink" only hides the files from everyone's views without removing them from the server (supposedly designed this way so reposting images becomes easier because the image is just "linked" in every post using it to save storage space).

I want to make survey to know when and where my users find out about my board. The purpose is to know how many users left from last year vs where my new one came from. I use google survey before but it record the email of voters. I use multiple Directpoll for the past 10days then I realize some fuckers only vote halfway. As for the poll type itself there 2 options: single-choice matrix and radio poll. If I use matrix, the poll would show year x place as options and voters are supposed to vote the one that fit them. The problem is matrix allow them to vote both years (and after that directpoll debacle above? them messing up vote is really possible). Hell I sent a test link to my friend with note inside poll to vote just 1. He vote all 4 years. So matrix is out. I need survey tool with option to direct to different poll depend on the answer (logic) Quizmaker show its result as aggregate which matter because I only want to know where the 2022 user came from. but some reasons make it off putting.

I was asking a decision by new poster(s) in that thread, I sus #7 might be an old poster who impersonate new one(s). the OP definitely a new poster and my old poster don’t like the way I run things I can think of 3 scenarios -both ASN A&C are new posters, they just happen to have Bypass Id -ASN C is an old poster impersonating new one, they just happen to have Bypass Id -both ASN A&C are same person. So I asked to be granted to upload a custom.js. It was primarily to automatically open [embed] videos for esthetic reasons. The problem is, invidious videos (not the youtube ones tho) autoplay. It's really bothering and unwanted behavior. A fellow BO share his custom.js with me : var embedButtons = document.getElementsByClassName('embedButton'); for (var i = 0; i < embedButtons.length; ++i) { embedButtons[i].click(); } var vid = document.getElementById("myVideo"); vid.autoplay = false; vid.load(); The three last lines are supposed to disallow autoplay but it's not working on some browsers that don't have the "block autoplay" setting implemented. So obviously something should be tweaked here. This is what anon tell me after investigating the issue : At home on Firefox ESR 91.10 (the latest), videos from Invidious/yewtu.be (and maybe others) launch automatically despite the trigger. The embedButtons and vid variables return undefined when evaluated. Searching the page code, it seems that the JS selectors are targeting identifiers that do not exist. Thanks if you can help.

Just a technical question as I was messing with my CSS to include a custom mouse pointer. >I have a CUR file with the correct hotspot >CUR file not allowed >convert to PNG >PNG automatically set the hotspot top-left (I want it top-center) So I tried as a personal challenge to host my cursor.cur file on a personal server then point to it in the CSS a, .embedButton, .divRefresh input, #postingForm button, #qrbutton, img, .hideFileButton, #dropzone, #dropzoneQr, #formButton, .glowOnHover, #newPostFieldset legend, #newPostFieldset label { cursor: url(https.myserver.lol/cursor.cur), pointer !important; } Shit not werked So I'm asking, is it technically feasible or maybe my code is wrong I'm learning. Codexx, do you have the original harmony.css? Mark said you did. I sort of need it. >>7274 Sorry, I can't seem to find my copy. However, I'm not sure how helpful it would be. Ron had the original files and was responsible for setting it up each year. Mark didn't keep a personal copy of the files. My copy was ripped from an archive I found that scraped the CSS, however I have been unable to find said archive again. It also was built for vichan, so it didn't port well anyways. It was decided we could get a better result with less work with "harmony lite". You can probably recreate it using the original image and setting the background to tile. That's all it was on halfchan originally, and that's what the old CSS was based on.
>>7276 Really all I'm looking for is the bit of code that made posts boxes have random colors in the original harmony. Do you know how to make that work? I've never had much luck randomizing things in CSS.
>>7277 I'm not sure randomizing the colors can be done with CSS alone, and I'm also not sure that CSS can differentiate between two different but equal post elements to provide different colors for each. But I'm not a CSS expert, so maybe there is a way to make it work. I'm not sure what the original CSS used, or if JS was involved. The person to ask would probably be Ron.
Can I allow upload of file type not allowed in global? like .docx
>Duration: The length of the ban. Use the code "d" for days, "h" for hours, "m" for minutes. So if I wanted to ban a user for 4 hours and 30 minutes, I could use the ban length "4h30m", or "270m". If this field is left empty, the ban will be permanent. >--IP/Bypass warning: This option functions essentially as a "temporary ban" that is only valid until the length (set by you) expires or the user sees it (Figure X), which is a popup that the user will see next time they try to post. Once they have clicked through that warning they will be able to post as normal. So if I were to use this "IP/Bypass warning" ban option, but leave the "Duration" field empty (which would normally make the ban permanent), does this mean the user will stay banned indefinitely until they see the warning? Then after they see the warning, they will be allowed to post again? Therefore, the ban is not actually permanent? I don't actually want to ban them permanently but I do want to make sure they see the message. For some reason the option is giving me a vibe that you have to set a period of time. On a side note, the "Figure X" hyperlink goes to a 404 error
>>7329 No, but you can petition for us to add additional file formats. Some more obscure ones might be missing by way of oversight. .docx isn't exactly "obscure" but it's also not commonly shared via imageboards. The only types we're not considering right now are archives (zip, rar, 7z, etc) due to security concerns. This unfortunately also affects CBZ/CBR files, because these are just archives with different extensions to indicate the contents are comic pages. If there's no security concern, we're generally open to allowing the files to be shared. Note that using the MIME list on the board settings page will automatically set your board to use a whitelist which ONLY allows MIMEs you list that are also on the global page. >>7340 Correct. A "warning" will automatically dismiss itself once the user views the message, so you can safely use a "permanent" warning without concern. We actually cycle permabans on VPN IPs out regularly, so you may see permanent bans get an expiration date.

I'm sure /t/, /fur/, /v/, /co/, /abdl, /a/ etc has *great* use for all of these spanish announcements flooding into their front page like spam. >If you would like a community event you participate in to be featured, then you can ask us to put it in the announcements. Umm? How about you do some actual work and relegate the spanish announcements to ONLY the spanish speaking boards? And leave the rest of us alone mby? k thnx.
>>7898 As far as I know Tor has been re-enabled for some time now. If you're still having issues, let me know so I can diagnose. I'd like to replace the event announcements with a calendar system. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment, but I will circle back to it.

>>7899 >As far as I know Tor has been re-enabled for some time now. Please see pic.
>>7904 Ah, I see. That's a LynxChan error. We have multiple routes to block Tor posting and we normally don't toggle this one. It should be fixed now.
>>7905 >we normally don't toggle this one. It should be fixed now. ...
>>7905 File posting is disabled. Please enable.
>>7905 >didn't even test it Bro I swear to god you fuckers are so brain dead holy fuck. Give the date where you thought it was turned back on so we can fume over it.
>>7905 nigga...
>>7905 I can't believe we waited over a month for this. Struggling with shitty vpns just to post anything at all, and this was the reason?
>>7905 This is unreasonable. You need to do better than this.
Turn image posting on tor back on. It has been a fucking month. You should have been able to figure out some solution by now even if it were simply hire 20 new janitors to tard wrangle silvia.
Had to disable it again due to spam. I've got a better solution I am working on.
>>7919 >I've got a better solution I am working on. but you said that a few weeks ago. back to the endless wait I guess.
>>7919 >didn't actually solve the problem >only took the sperg knowing Tor was back to get back at it God you are such absolute NIGGERS.

In order for tags to be searchable, you must space them like this: test1,test2,test3,test4,test5 And you cannot have more than 5
Please tick Non-bypassable by default. I keep checking the guide to remember what this thing supposed to do (well I know now)
>>8153 >guide Where? >Non-bypassable Wut?
>>8159 >Where? The guide or "Moderation Manual" is a special page that describes basic mod tools and board settings. I think you need to be registered to access it, but here's the link: https://8chan.moe/.static/pages/moderation.html >Wut? From the mod manual: <Non-bypassable: If this checkbox is un-ticked, the user can simply fill out a new bypass and continue posting. If it is ticked, it bans the IP from being able to bypass said ban until it expires.

Hello. I was wondering if it was possible for you guys to restore a hastily deleted board and for me to assume control of it. I created an account on the site, ticked the "Request confirmation e-mail" but I yet to receive it going for an hour or so. Thanks in advance.
>>8289 *have >Pending confirmation to be expired at Mon, 10 Jul 2023 13:09:08 GMT. What should I do in this case? I haven't received the confirmation e-mail
Unrelatable experience. Some fucker screenshot your board, then edit the screenshot to ask about .css My board is a small dying board, the kind that you only know by randomly see recent post. a BO see my css and purposely screenshot a spicy banner i make (mustve choose that banner to get reaction here) and for unknown reason, edited in part of my board you are not suppose to be able to see when the .css is on. I didnt want to make a fuss about it (I don't see it so either the post is in another thread or get cycled) but cmon you are ripping from small board. Worst thing about experience like this is that you are the only one knows it is edited.
>>3394 At this point clock symbol is more indicator of "board that doesnt have problem" rather than "BO who abandon their board" >2 years ago
I have question regarding the rules about sex with minors and animals in text form. One of my board users wants to retell a story about how he had sex with a cow back when he was 12yo. Its how he became a zoo. Would this be against the rules in anyway? Are real stories with minors acceptable in general? Or a strict no? Thnx for answer.
>>8347 Explain it carefully because I have no clue what's your issue. If English is not your mother tonge use the hispanic meta thread instead.
Why does it not work on Tor?
>>8556 Are you on the .onion, or one of the clearnet domains? And if on clearnet over Tor, which domain?
>>1651 say, if I want to create a new board(and a new css for it), but I do not have any experience with css, how do I do it? are there any free no-code tools/tutorials on how to create your own css?
>>1651 How do I hide my username in the last edited by messages? Can I hide my username in the public logs? this feature should be implemented, jschan has it too
>>4805 >flagging the board as SFW, Sending email to protonmail to request a status change for my board.
This sound stupid but I want to request a reverse warning option. I got a post who is either random passerby or potential user. If it is the later I don’t want to scare him but at the same time the sus post is the only thing they post. The reverse warning I propose won’t show warning if user do post within set time (I assume they are legit if they return soon) but will show warning if user doesn’t post soon (random shitter)
Uids are showing even though I have turned the option off. Please fix.
>>2092 Speaking about global limit, can BO have option to cap image limit in their board? >>2094 yeah I think loading 700 pics isn't doable for people viewing from potato device. I want to bring my board limit to half of it.

Do your posters have basic courtesy of asking if they allowed to post sensitive content before they post it? I know Warning sign disuade new posters but on other hand people like pic related exist
>>9290 >image limit This can be set per-post with the "Maximum number of files per post" option. You can reduce the number of posts in a thread by setting "bump limit". Additionally, there is the [Last] button on posts, which just loads the latest 50. This helps a lot for users on toasters trying to click extra-large threads.
>>4805 >Both are planned features for Lynxchan 2.8 ( Still not seeing it nor mentioned in >>5978 or >>9110 Deleting user's file, either via thread/Moderate Thread option or ban droplist only show deletion by IP/bypass. Now that I do it, it does delete post from that bypass, which date back to last week. I thought bypass only last for 1 day? whole board post deletion, not just from thread. Thankfully only from that bypass. And different poster can’t share same exact bypass right? I thought I accidentally deleted a regular user’s post but consider 1 week worth of post get deleted, he probably is the offender, just changing identity fuck this is getting interesting
Check the emails for 8moeadmin@protonmail.com if you would be so kind, lainfag.
>>9386 Learn to speak English, José.
>lainfag care about the road he step in to get to other side
How do i delete board? I click the "delete board" button, but it only says i am not allowed
>>9530 You can't, the function was removed after some niggers abuse it to break havoc. Ask Codexx directly either IRC, Matrix or Email, so he can delete your boards.
I think the system overestimate if I unlink multiple post at once. I click to mass unlink 5 posts and the notice tell me "successfully trash 98 something something"
>>1651 >If the BO cannot be reached then we will hand the board over to a willing replacement. How long is the grace period for the site administration to attempt to contact an AWOL BO after a board claim is made? I don't see a timeframe listed here or in the moderation manual where claims are mentioned. I sent an email claiming an abandoned board two weeks ago.
Please extend Trashbin retaining period to 2 days, things get removed too fast
Why does #rs stick with you in other threads after you post with it once? The only way I can get rid of it is clearing my browser. It's annoying going into the account page to check and uncheck your role signature, but it's even more annoying dealing with the side effects of using #rs even once, so #rs being the more quick and convenient way isn't really true and it's ultimately a pointless function.
>>9658 It's because of shitty browsers. Hopefully in the future there will just be a checkbox by the name field instead, especially for boards that have no name field.
Can a board volunteer ask to move a thread like a BO can?
Hi, sorry if I'm being too impatient but do the admins check their emails anymore? I sent an email a few days ago about how email verification seems to be broken but got nothing.
>>9327 >Last] button >50 I'm grateful it only display less than that. I don't know why i thought it only display 15. I wish it only display 15 or so. >>9670 I got impatient the first time i made a board because it was close to end year so last year i email them in advance.I got my response within 1 month
this no longer works: #dynamicAnnouncement { display: none; } plz help
>>9670 >>9716 The e-mail verification being a bit slower has been on me. I've been busier than usual and haven't been checking my inbox as often. I will rework the verification process over the holidays to help speed things up. >>9731 Can you explain what you expect it to do, and what it no longer does? >>9659 Got Stephen to implement this for the next LynxChan release. >>9657 It is two days, but I think it works by running in batches, so it's possible that posts get clipped sooner than that. I'll talk about extending it to three days. On larger boards, the trash bin can get excessive very quickly if it doesn't empty regularly, so I'd be hesitant to extend it any further than that. >>9554 Can you give me some steps to reproduce? You're trying to unlink images? >>9530 We stopped allowing deletions because 9/10 times it was only used maliciously. There are almost always users who want to keep the board going, so deletion just scatters people instead of allowing a clean hand-off. If you really want a board deleted, you can reach out to us, but at this point I think it's best for closed boards to simply be locked, which we can also provide.
