Luanti thread Anonymous 12/13/2024 (Fri) 18:40:45 Id: a1d2d0 No. 1050353 >>1056654
I'm afraid to make a Luanti thread because the game is much better than Minecraft. It's the definitive block building video game. (popularity is not a measure of quality). I'm afraid to make a thread and advertise it's existence for fear of it becoming too popular (normalfags ruin everything). I'm going to make 1 thread about it (per imageboard) and that's it because the userbase is a bit TOO small for my taste and this game could use a bit more players. >How is Luanti better than Minecraft -it is a self contained and simple application. The audio always works, the game always runs reliably. -simple and intuitive Linux and Windows support -it is a convenient platform for mods. This is a big deal. Mods are a 1 click install. There's been times where I didn't like something about the base game so I immediately went and downloaded a mod and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. -Open source for maximum customizability -every aspect of this game is free as in costs no money. -no corporate faggotry overlordom from micro$oft -Online play is simple and intuitive

>>1052598 Of course there's porn, the things are shaped like giant dildos.
Has anyone tried this? https://www.classicube.net/
>>1052995 No idea what that is.
>>1053099 classicube is a from-the-ground-up recreation of the classic minecraft mode, with limited worlds, creative block inventory, but with various QOL features added, with player skins and the ability for servers to add custom content easily. You can install the client, but like with the classic mode you can actually play it within the web browser.
the fuck is luanti?

>>1053507 <I can't read Open source voxel engine, formerly known as Mineclone. Mostly known for having various Minecraft clones made within it, but it has original games also.
Luanne, tea.
is there a minecraft clone that's *actually* worth playing over minecraft?

>>1053546 Not a clone but Terraria.
>>1053872 They are very different games, but Terraria is so much better than Minecraft it's unbelievable. It feels like MC never really "went anywhere" (not talking about popularity or sales of course) in comparison, spinning its wheels for years.
>>1053877 I don't think minecraft had a direction since it's inception, it was just something a fat swedish guy was doing for fun, and it was up to the player to find the fun in a blocky building game, which many did. There was only ever a vague idea of making minecraft into a 3d dwarf fortress, but I'm sure Notch quickly saw that it would not be feasible with how certain thigns start impacting performance, it was how many years that lighting continued to have issues? It's how many years that performance sucked because it was trying to render terrain that wasn't visible to the player? How many years that it still does that after the "fix", but only illuminated areas under ground? Notch and his team were able to just coast on the momentum without donig much actual work on it, for a long time, but now that microsoft is in charge and mojang has "guidelines" to adhere to, the direction seems to be worse than no direction at all. Even though endermen were introduced after Notch started taking suggestions from reddit and were not well received, they still ended up serving a purpose. Now we've got retard pandas that roll off cliffs, another boss mob even worse than the wither that exists just to rape you to death if it hears your ass hair rub together, dancing parrots, ocelots were made useless with the introduction of cats that villagers just spawn more of, beacons are still trash, armordildos drop leprosy scabs to make dog bondage armor, and the first real "adventure" type addition in years, the copper dungeon, seems like a slap in the face after not adding copper golems
>>1053892 Terraria has also been pretty directionless. The initial spelunking, exploring, crafting and building worked fine but their idea of fun for over a decade now has been mob farming, tacked on events, invasions and tacked on optional bosses. Hardmode sucks balls, the sense of wonder is gone and gives way to a meat grinder of a game.
>>1053895 Terraria's had a very clear direction: it's a sandbox metroidvania. The survival-crafting stage is the first few hours of the game before it opens up.
these splash messages still in mc? >Woo, somethingawful! >Woo, reddit! >Black lives matter! >Be anti-racist! >Learn about allyship! >Speak OUT against injustice and UP for equality! >Amplify and listen to BIPOC voices! >Educate your friends on anti-racism! >Support the BIPOC community and creators! >Stand up for equality in your community! >You are valid! >Your gender is valid! >Contains infinite genders! >Educate your friends on anti-racism!
>>1053963 >Woo, somethingawful! You're lying that doesn't exist
>>1054047 Splash #165, added way back in 2010. Shockingly never removed, there used to be a "Woo, /v/! " one too would you believe it. The gender and anti-racism ones are also real, all being relatively recent. The latter being added in 2020 and the former, 2022. Few splashes were ever removed, only 28; one was an accidental duplicate and six were variants on the same one, so really 22 were removed. That's out of over 400. It's surprising what hasn't been removed, there are references to Junju Ito and there's still the super old "Indev!" splash even though the game left indev like 15 years ago.
>>1054047 Of all >>1053963's splashcringe, that's what you doubted?
>>1054228 I'm not into Minecraft so I didn't know. Plus, when was the last time SA was relevant? I assumed the diversity shit was in there because >CY+9 They're owned by Microsoft, have ten million players that would be outraged if they didn't virtue signal, and they protested during the George Floyd incident, so none of that shit surprised me. reddit is the biggest mainstream forum right now so it also makes sense when appealing to the masses, but it just didn't seem likely to me that SA would have an active reference in a "modern" game. After so long and so many updates, someone would've noticed, gone "lul who was this even?" (especially considering kids play the game, one or two of them probably became goons that way) and removed that fossil from the game, although this >>1054070 explains a lot.

Thoughts on Veloren? It's one of those voxel based Minecrafty games, but looks a million times more ambitious than Minecraft. It looks like what Hytale was planning to be before they rebooted it and it turned to vaporware. It looks more like "3D Terraria" than "better Minecraft". In fact, it sounds like it's aiming for what Minecraft originally set out to be - a Dwarf Fortress style voxel game. A quote from a dev. >From Dwarf Fortress, we'll be borrowing emergent gameplay, procedural systems and world simulation. Veloren simulates the entire world in realtime (unlike most voxel games) and this will allow us to simulate complex systems like trade, resources, civilisations, war, migration, natural disasters, etc. In the future, you'll be able to explore and experiment with the complexity of this world, discover its secrets, and interact with people and creatures that live in it. It's entirely open source and you can actually play it right now, but it's only at version 0.17. I just heard of it today and I'm curious if any anons know of it and have thoughts. https://veloren.net/
>>1055818 first I'm hearing of it, it looks pretty identical to cubeworld, but if it's open source I hope to see it actually go somewhere instead of evaporate like so many of these projects one thing that annoys me is that so many of these 'voxel engine games' either try to add way too much detail with smaller cubes, or stick to the very limited alpha minecraft aesthetic, like they're afraid to take a middle ground, they could keep the world geometry simple cubes, but why stick with blocky models for players and mobs? it's so limiting for kinematics, like movement animation, attacking/blocking, etc
>>1055818 Its quite barren, but it is in my "check in 10 years" list. Basically just Cubeworld but continued and not dead.
Been playing it for a while. Have amassed over 150 mods with slight tweaks. I need to learn Lua so i can mesh the mods together in better ways and to fix all the broken piece of shit WIP mods i like. Minecraft will always be more fun than Minetest, but that doesnt mean you cant enjoy Minetest, especially if you think licking bricks is a good way to spend an evening. >>1052995 Yup, a bit fun but im mot a builder or a pedo so i uninstalled after a few hours.
How much dedetated WAM do I need to run it?
>>1053963 The "infinite genders" one is still in the game.
>>1050353 (OP) yours truely has a server up, look up Brainrot Zombie Survival on the server list
>>1056654 What mod?
mineclone
>>1056656 Was abandoned years ago and everybody moved onto its forks VoxeLibre and Mineclonia. What about it?
