Do you like playing Dragon Quest, anon? Are you looking forward to Dragon Quest XII or the new Monster spinoff? Which girl is the best girl? Which monster is the best monster?
>>1133103 Only villains don't let Abel marry Bianca
As an NTRchad, I played DQ5 for solely for its reputation. I really enjoyed the game, the pure love Bianca had for the hero, and their cute marriage made me even more excited for the horse part. Except the whole horse thing was completely overblown, and it ended far too quickly before I got to enjoy it. Ive never been blue balled so hard in my life. I used to enjoy the doujinshi, and I now that I know there is nothing there. I feel nothing.

I’m not sure I’m looking forward to XII, let alone expecting it any time soon, Squeenix isn’t done milking the hell out of FF7 Remake
(1.75 MB 2560x1440 Dragon-Quest.jpg)

Oh shit, I completely forgot that I have a DQIV save right in front of Psaro's castle with the barriers all down. Not sure why I let it hang like that. It's my first time playing the game and I liked what I played. Maybe more than DQ5 (I've jumped around) but not as much as 3. Honestly my biggest problem with it is that jumping in right after re-playing 3, Borya and Maya as well as Kiryl and Meena feel underwhelming with the Priest and Mage skills split in half between them. Not a huge deal.
>>1274969 Daisy with a personality that is >>1275024 DQ1 is really barebones, but it's a classic. DQ2 is the one that most needed a remake, I don't know how to feel about the new character added to the party but the game is notorious for being actually unfinished.
>>1278540 Yeah, I'm expecting the DQ1+2 release to be a full remake of Dragon Quest 2... with a bonus port of Dragon Quest 1. It definitely looks like 2's the one getting most of the attention and to be honest I'd be fine with that. Dragon Quest 1 is THE father of all JRPGs. Regardless of whether or not the game is "worth playing" for most people in this day and age, there's a level of preservation that should be maintained.
im a huge fan of dragon quest 9, but it takes a serious investment of time to clear everything, so i haven't gotten around to it yet. Something like 700+ hours.
>>1284607 Why would you waste so much of your time grinding for pointless side content in a single player game?
A friend of mine recommended me DQ5 because he knows Im into romance and blonde women, so Im looking forward to play it for those two reasons alone. But apart from that, I'd like to ask in thread, what am I in for? My only two real references of JRPGs are Chrono Trigger (loved it) and Bravely Default (love it, but Chapter 4 is filtering me hard and I dont want to grind), so I pretty much know jack about JRPGs, havent touched a FF either lol. Also, I see this game is on the PS2 and NDS, which one should I go for? I have a 3DS, so I can go for thr DS version right away, but if the PS2 is a better option I can try running it on PC (Though I have my doubts on my potato PC being able to run it... I could run God Hand, though?)
(212.31 KB 1358x1328 51hrzu49ylx41.jpg)

>>1340689 God Hand is a pain to emulate. If your potato can do that, DQ5 on PS2 will be fine. It is in Japanese, so you'll need a fan translation, which exists. For the DS version, it's good too and native English. Regardless of version, you'll find the game somewhat like Chrono Trigger. It's a little grindier but the lead designer is the same guy: Yuji Hori. He has directed every Dragon Quest game in the mainline series.
>>1340689 Dragon Quest V is very similar to Chrono Trigger, since Horii was the scenario designer for both games. The biggest difference is Dragon Quest V has random encounters and lets you recruit monsters into your party. It also has a more traditional fantasy setting though there is time travel.

>>1340689 >But apart from that, I'd like to ask in thread, what am I in for? It's one of the tougher Dragon Quest games, but there's actual story reasons for that. There's some ways to trivialize the game a bit but I think it's much better to just experience it as the devs intended than just minmaxing your way to victory. As an RPG, it's basically as simple as there is, you got turn based gameplay, physical and magical attacks and "classes" (in a very lax sense, at least early on in the series). Consider the fact that DQ5 is technically the first monster-catcher type game ever created, or at least publicly known, so the balance may be a bit off. In my opinion the game is nowhere near similar to Final Fantasy, despite sharing a lot of mechanics, just the fact that you don't need a thesaurus to get through the games should be all you need to know about it. >Also, I see this game is on the PS2 and NDS, which one should I go for? SNES version may be a bit outdated, but it's the original so it always counts as the actual experience; PS2 requires a fan translation that, from what I've been told, is pretty much on point, but can feel a bit on the dry side. NDS is kind of disappointing, graphically speaking, plus it suffers a lot from the cockney curse where Squeenix learnt the wrong lesson from DQ8's popularity and started giving everyone retarded accents rather than tying them to their character traits, the did Bianca dirty in this one. As for mobile, it's always an option (and I usually much rather prefer it for the older titles thanks to the QoL features and portability), but the people who make pirated versions of the games often add weird modifications or flat out cheats to get you through the early game, which kind of ruins the fun. If I had to pick one, I'd probably go for the NDS version simply because it's the easier to get and you have multiple ways of playing it (on actual hardware or emulated, touch controls or buttons).
>>1340942 >>1341275 Thanks for the headsups, I ended up giving the DS version a shot and while it was a good choice (since I could grind in the comfort of my bed), I'm still curious to try the PS2 version just for kicks (and because the accents are indeed kind of annoying). I'm still in the prologue, right after beating the Winter Queen, it was the biggest RPG clutch for me because honey felt like dealing a crit at the very last second with Abel at one hit from getting KOd. It was also refreshing to be able to inflict confusion to the Housekeeper boss, I hate when RPGs give major enemies/bosses status immunity, it defeats the purpose of using aliment attacks in the first place when the only things you can use it against can be brute-forced with relative ease at no MP cost. Something that kind of bothers me is the way menus, commands and inventory are laid out. Like having character-based inventories instead of an universal inventory, equipment handling being overall weird and poor numbers/stats communication in the menus when using items or spells... I find it strange for a 2008 game to have so many inconventions, even more so when some of the games from the friggin' 90s were already streamlining things up! In any case, I'm enjoying it so far; I'm already looking forward to finish the prologue. But first, I'll check the PS2 version.
>>1346143 Fun stuff, I ended up playing the PS2 version all the way to the last spot I left it on the DS version; I don't know what got to me lmao. Interestingly enough, both versions took me the same amount of time, 3.5 hours, even though the PS2 version felt a lot quicker because it's surprisingly easier in difficulty. Now I'm in a crossroad... The PS2 version looks lovely and sounds gorgeous, dialogues are better enough to make a difference (and believe it or not, I understood the story better than in the DS version); sure, menuing is slightly worse than in the DS version, but there's something about it that feels oddly comfy; I was jarring at first, but I feel like I can stomach it just fine. Normally I prefer 2D sprites over 3D models, but I adore the enemy models of the PS2 version, they are so expressive and charming, same for the overworld chibis (I love chibis a lot). Visually, everything is a treat and the soundtrack has a very vintage sound to it that I've never heard before in a game and I just love a lot. ...my only real gripe is the difficulty, or lack thereof. On the DS version, I was carefully planning at every battle and they would prolong for a bit, on the PS2 I was just mashing buttons and ending battles in 1-3 turns. I feel it's a little cheap and nobrainer, but at the same time, it's kind of comfy, it's complicated. (Granted, the castle was indeed tough, not as much, but still). Overall, I'm enjoying this game. It does feel a little undercooked and silly compared to something like Chrono Trigger, but still, it has it's charm and I like it.
>>1020486 the problem with this "compliant god" is that there is actual degeneracy being put in the cracks of these games for kids. and people who dont want degeneracy to come near their kids, or for there to be degeneracy in general, arent that vocal about it. they have lives to live and arent terminally seething like the harpies that are sjws and puritans. now these harpies are playing the role of concerned people just to have an excuse to ruin things for others just cause they are that malicious. this is how the compliant god was formed that he is talking about. first we had good plain games, then we had degenerate good games. after we got shallow degenerate games, as degeneracy became what sold games, and now we are stuck with shallow ugly games (not even plain anymore). and we are stuck with these shallow ugly games cause the degenrates enabled these harpies, this compliant god, to have so much power and influence. morale of the story is that to never introduce degeneracy into your passion. of course my viewpoint gets ignored everywhere cause I sound like a madman just cause I cant form good sentences. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
>>1346143 >I hate when RPGs give major enemies/bosses status immunity Dragon Quest does this a lot, but it also lets you experiment with several combinations. Poison can either be the strongest status effect or the weakest depending on the enemy and game. Even Sex Appeal affects some enemies. >Like having character-based inventories instead of an universal inventory It's part of the overall strategy, so that if some character falls behind in stats they can still be useful as the community healing chest. It also makes it so that losing any of the player characters stings all the more, DQ XI kind of removed that problem by giving you a lot more of them and the game ends up being super unbalanced becasue fo that. >>1347085 The one thing I like about the PS2 version is the enemy dying in a dramatic fashioin when being struck down and Abel doing his Kareem Abdul-Jabbar impression and throwing pots from the 3-pointer line. I still think you ought to get through the NDS version first for the QoL feature of being able to grind in bed. >>1347672 Brother, I've met the guy in person, he's the chillest fucking dude on the planet, if even he's fed up with it I can assure you most devs are actually against it.
>>1337077 well i haven't yet, i got up to 200ish hours and took a break. I could ask the same thing about people who play mobas or diablo type games really, the only difference is the drop rate being a bit lower. At least there are ways to...manage drops later on.
>>1347832 ok let me rephrase it. I said that this willy nilly degeneracy has enabled these harpies to pose as concerned people just to ruin our fun games. most kids these days sadly associate degeneracy with fun, and think not having one means not having the other, so instead of degeneracy being some willy nilly joke or eye candy, its now seen as the morally correct thing to partake in. I wonder how different things would be if such things were kept to M rated games only, and that any immature screeching baboon who blows a fuse at the sight of a pantie or titty, didnt touch Mature games and kept to T and under.

'Heroes' was the only redeeming flash-in-the-pan of this diddler grooming tool franchise, and they've dumped that spin-off; rending the I. P. dead in all minds harbouring I. Q.'s above 100.
>>1348146 Heroes I is one of my favorite games, II doesn't really click it for me since there's somehow less banter among party members despite there being more of them. It has better pacing though.
>>1348146 I enjoyed the Heroes games, the second one had a massive difficulty spike randomly in the middle, but outside of that it's a good spinoff.
>>1347085 Just finished prologue and holy shit, Papas death was so utterly painful to watch... I saw it coming from the very beginning, but I was not prepared for that scene to leave a hole in my chest... Probably because I got attached to the man... Now the game seems like it stops holding my hand, and while that's not a big deal (Yet?), I'm kind of wary of what I'm dealing with as my options expand. Also, the Flora foreshadowing dialogues got from me the most reflexive and visceral negative I've had in a while >Nuns at the church speak about this rich and kind girl <"Yeah, not interested." >Oracle granny says I'm looking for a woman <"YES!" >Says a NEW one will appear <"OH FUCK OFF!" Seeing Flora get introduced and squeezed into the story is going to be 'extremely awkward' when I'm outright dying to get back to Bianca, isn't it...? >>1347832 >Dragon Quest does this a lot, but it also lets you experiment with several combinations. Well, shit, there goes me having a breeze with bosses. As long as I have options, that's good though. >Poison can either be the strongest status effect or the weakest depending on the enemy and game. Noted. Doesn't to poison my way around. >It also makes it so that losing any of the player characters stings all the more I don't quite get it, but I just finished prologue, so I feel I will soon get it and it will sting me alright. >The one thing I like about the PS2 version is the enemy dying in a dramatic fashioin when being struck down I love that too, it's such an amazing touch of extra detail. >I still think you ought to get through the NDS version first for the QoL feature of being able to grind in bed. Actually, I think I'm going to stick to the PS2 version; funnily enough, grinding is a lot more comfortable when the game is simply not strangling me like the DS version has been doing so far, plus I love the aesthetics of the PS2 better, even the menus are comfier, I can get used to the lack of improvements from the DS version... Plus, I wont lie to you, I don't want to deal with Papas death again...

>>1351662 Back to DQ5, I was worried about how the game would turn out after the inclusion of the wagon, enemy recruitment and death as a feature, but after a kind of annoying crash course in Santa Rosa's cave, getting myself lost and swarmed by enemy encounters, a party of moving caskets and a couple Metal Slimes, the game turned out just great! I called the limited inventory space a nuance, but with party members having their own inventories, you technically DO have infinite inventory space lmao. Equipment was kind of annoying at first, but there are little things to it that actually streamline the process, like being able to see what can be equipped by who (and stat numbers) from the very inventory screen. I also had this anon >>1133103 at the back of my head and got myself a Slime Knight, I wonder how good they are, I know they can learn Heal and mine did 30 HP damage on Level 1, so I have slight suspicion that these guys are actually busted lmao. Also why the fuck are Metal Slimes even a thing? Is this legal? At this spawn rate?? My only real issue right now is that BIANCA ISNT THE FUCKING PARTY!!
>>1358150 Still yapping, but seriously, I'm having a blast. Yesterday alone I went from getting the Monster Box and doing the whole Reinhart quest with Henry to getting both elemental rings and choosing to marry Bianca. Not going to lie, I was going to call it earlier because I could not care less about Flora (Nera?) and the encounters of the fire cave and surroundings worn me out pretty badly, but the second I found Bianca at the nameless mountain village, my brain went for a reset and I was continuing along with a smile on my face. And then the party chat dialogues during the whole Water Ring quest... goodness gracious, they knew how to make the most of the plot there; you could feel the tension and sadness in Bianca's dialogues, it really made me feel for her. It's a shame the whole confrontation of Flora and Bianca and the choice between the two was handled so tactless (ala JRPG, dare I say) it made the buildup fall flat, I expected a confession from Bianca, or to have the choice be in that moment where Abel wakes up in the middle of the night, that would have been so wonderful... But it is what it is, I only hope whatever comes next after the choice gets beautiful.

Will it be fine if I only class change my Priest to sage? Should I bother class changing my martial artist and beast tamer if I want them to finish as those classes?
>>1073976 >>1094498 If you're still accepting questions, could you also ask why the industry feels an insatiable "need" to remake/remaster/rerelease absolutely fucking everything? That they cannot leave past games untouched and see it as their mission that they "must", according to them, "update" or "fix" games for the always ambiguous "modern audience" instead of leaving those games the fuck alone. This is extremely important given how Yuji Hori is talking about how a Chrono Trigger remake is on the table: https://archive.ph/jEC6z If it's about keeping these games available to the public, then continuing producing the original game that you released (I don't care how "unrealistic" that sounds, that's your fucking problem) and completely unaltered . Because all that this action by the industry is doing is coming across is (At best) these companies are hurting for money and/or (At worst) incapable of producing another good game because the "greats" games "already" exist.
This will always be Dragon Warrior in my heart. I will never accept the evil you corporate vampires inflict upon people.
