Atelier Thread: Beginner Friendly Edition Anonymous 10/05/2024 (Sat) 02:17:54 Id: ec297a No. 1023090
What's your favourite game in the Atelier series? Who is best girl? Where would you suggest newcomers start?
Someone recently translated Atelier Marie for the GBC, still menaing to play it...someday
>>1023090 Currently playing through Ryza 1 and its better than I thought. My first time playing it I dropped it because the battle music was complete garbage but I gave it a second try and its not bad. I basically just beat the dragon and got the hammer to destroy rocks is where Im currently at.
(56.74 KB 800x600 Mu.jpg)

I just started playing Atelier Marie Remake, and only just made it to the first winter, so I can't really say much about it. Cute so far though. Haven't played any other Atelier games. I like Mu.
>>1023090 >Where would you suggest newcomers start? I'd recommend Sophie as a first game but mainly because it's also my first. But generally the only factor people should really consider for their first game is >do I like time limits >do I like the alchemy system >do I like the protag
>>1023095 Is that nigger from Atelier? If so it's another shit series I'll never touch.
>>1023400 You sound insecure anon, it's just a cute nigger what problem do you have with her?
Atelier ayesha is the one that I started with. Didn't complete it though, Can't remember why I never did. Also goddamn I want to mating press every girl in this game. Especially regina. They aren't even thick but something about them just makes me want to mate.
(635.51 KB 1355x3444 what_order.jpg)

Oh yeah I forgot I had this.
>>1023092 >My first time playing it I dropped it because the battle music was complete garbage You can always use the music from Blue Reflection, which I like a lot better.
Here's a tip for people who like the concept of the Atelier series, especially the crafting autism, but hate the time limits that limit exploration and can force you into fights that you're not prepared for due to not having time to gather materials: play the Mana Khemia series instead. MK is a spinoff of Atelier by the same dev and has everything people generally like about the Atelier series except time only passes when you do specific, main story quests that are clearly marked as such. The player is in full control of when time passes, which means you can explore and craft at your leisure.
I tried Altelier Ryza back when it came out. I hated the crafting stuff and the time limits, but loved the waifus. I'm conflicted whether to go back and try it again or not.
>>1023860 Go back and try it again if nothing better's lined up.
>>1023860 Don't recall Ryza having time limits. >I hated the crafting stuff Ryza's crafting is pretty simple though, at least compared to older games.
>>1023904 The question is moot, because the games can't salvage taste as shit as yours no matter how good they are.
Didn't this series got the Fate Grand Order treatment where they made a gacha with crazy MTX to milk off the fans?
>>1024020 Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator from earlier this year. It's for Steam and mobile and you need internet to play.
>>1023904 5/10, made me reply.
>>1023918 >Don't recall Ryza having time limits. You're probably right, I played so little of it that I'm just assuming. I just know there's some sort of time system. >Ryza's crafting is pretty simple though, at least compared to older games. Really? It seemed overwhelming to me, but I only played a few hours, so maybe I just need to play more.
A fix to get better performance on Windows/Linux: https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix Native HDR mods (only for Ryza series): https://github.com/clshortfuse/renodx/wiki/Mods
>>1026864 LOL, it's so funny that normalfag Windows users still haven't figured out that they can just delete all the bloatware files that are in the System32 folder. Games like Atelier run so much faster without all that processing power going to redundant Microshit functions.
>>1026894 I tried deleting the bloatware and now my computer doesn't work. Help!
I hope you guys are playing with nude mods.
>>1026894 i run arch btw
>>1028111 >I hope you guys are playing with nude mods. I fucking miss moderchan.
Can't wait for the new game next March. It looks great.
>>1044009 Do you mean Yumia? Honestly not sure how they're gonna handle a non turn based Atelier game and how impactful the items you craft will be in real time combat.
>>1028111 I installed the nude mod and now men have penises. How to fix this glitch? I tried being gay, but it didn't work.

I played Atelier Iris as a kid, which was more like a traditional JRPG. Loved it a lot. Years later, I played Iris 2 and 3. They're separate stories, thankfully, as I didn't like them. It seemed like each new entry became more claustrophobic. In 2, the world map went from free-ish roam to forced dotted paths between locations like a modern 2D Mario game. In 3, the world map vanishes entirely, and majority of the game is spent in heavily cluttered pocket dimensions that are timed levels, and the hub town for these isn't very big either. Funny enough, I think the game mechanics are objectively improved in these games, but I just couldn't enjoy them because I hated their worlds. After the Iris series, I know it started becoming about cute girl MCs and sometimes yuri undertones in a comfy setting. But did it also continue this direction I hated with the latter Iris games? NORN A CUTE!

Go to a Latino, Middle Eastern or Asian supermarket, you'll likely find them. There's around 170 species and they've got a ton of different, often shared names. >Possibly. There have been several questionable choices I noted throughout the game when I replayed it as an adult. Oh, do tell. I love hearing weird translation choices.

Please read on for details about the schedule leading up to the end of service. lmao they waited until the 1st anniversary event was over to announce this. <h-h-he-e-ey atelier fans!!1! <so uh, remember when we called you guys a bunch of smelly losers who want to see beautiful animu girls kiss and engage in skinship with each other, said we didn't need you and wanted to chase that mythical global audience? <well, uh, preorder numbers for Yumia aren't looking so hot and nobody's viewing our trailers (we got outperformed by fricking Synduality and that game is fucking dead) <and uh, turns out when we were in a tight bind due to our supersmart DEI/BRIDGE/ESG policies absolutely fucking us over, Ryza with her Golden Week bikini and cowtats saved us! Multiple times! Yeah, gacha collabs and everything, she's the only reason we're continuing the Ryz-uh, the Atelier gacha in Japan after the mythical global BPD harpies didn't come out for it! Yeah, uh, can't argue with green, especially with the shareholders being really mad at us over policore, heh. <s-s-so forget about us fucking you guys over, we need you guys to buy the hag title! For us, okay? Look, we even brought out the bikinis and swimsuits. We even have the men leering in that iconic toxic masculinity we totally supported all along. Come out for the ma-shit I keep fucking this up, the female characters. <hahahaha aren't we based in these trying times, w-who would ever think of removing sex appeal from games, w-we're not like those other losers, hahaha who would be so dumb to do that crap, r-right? <oh god fucking buy this pleeeeeeeeease

Are the ps1 games worth a play?
I tried to get into Ryza, but I realised the time limits from the older games give some structure and decision-making to the crafting and exploration. Without it, i started to lose interest.
>>1073570 >to appeal to a "wider audience" Genshin audience specifically, which is why Yumia got open world exploration and base building.

>>1073587 I’ve played every PS3 Atelier game up through Atelier Sophie on the PS4 (never played Ryza). I’ve never tried the PS1 or PS2 ones, though I really should. I love the art style >>1073786 So, strip the saga of its main features and everything people grew up loving, just to turn it into another generic anime game with a lackluster presentation and, at best, average gameplay? Why not build on what Ryza did well to keep those new players hooked while tossing in some classic elements for the old fans? It’s always baffled me how developers keep biting the hands that feed them over and over again.
>>1073817 >It's going to sell 2M copies on the first week Nigger even Ryza didn't do that and this shit isn't doing Ryza numbers. You sound like those blackpilled retards, if not niggerpill himself.
I know that I'm probably going to trigger that cuckchanner who made >>1073389 if they're still around by talking about this but Atelier Yumia's demo came out a few days ago and the game's going to be released on Friday. I'm not sure if anyone's going to talk about it considering that the new Asscreed is coming out a day earlier along with the Xenoblade Chronicles X remaster but it seems that the devs are already being quick to respond to complaints people are saying about the demo like the camera quickly spinning after battles: https://automaton-media.com/en/news/atelier-yumia-demo-motion-sickness-inducing-camera-effects-to-be-patched-out-in-full-release-says-koei-tecmo/
Yumia might be a good game in itself but so far my first impressions from the promotional materials are that it hardly look like an Atelier title in everything but the name
>>1081506 Played the game for a bit and you're right. The alchemy system is gutted to the bone that auto crafting everything can get you through the whole game. The combat is basically like Xenoblade but shittier. And The main girl is kinda meh, not really liking her. The open world shit is a slog too, so is the crafting shit.
>>1080812 So as the "cuckchanner" (lol no, I was making fun of this game months before its release) in question, I'm more or less mocking the obvious travesty Yumia is in trying to nab the normalfag crowd and bending the knee to globohomo ESG and DEI in a time where such a strategy has invariably ended in failure. If you didn't pick up on it, the devs are trying to play both sides and pretend the title still has fanservice when it doesn't, either by forcing players to shell out for the bare minimum that was in previous entries for free (hence the bikini DLC I savaged) or by releasing faux-horny promo art that painfully tries to pretend the old service is there and hilarious. That, combined with just kitbashing mechanics from recent games as >>1082304 attests, renders Yumia the most hilarious piece of sterilized sellout trash with no vision ever, and I cheer on its failure to burn Gust hard and make them regret compromising and selling its soul. Ffs, Koei Tecmo was so desperate they reached out to Scamco for last-minute collabs with Tekken 8 and Tales of Graces f Remastered, what does that tell you about their confidence? <muh Steam player count It honestly does not reflect sales at all, despite whatever retards think, only how many people realistically played at launch on PC, and if it's a stinky launch as the "Mixed" rating and reviews with low playtime suggests, that shows there's a high refund rate.
>>1082321 Ah yes, the traditional bathing cheongsam. Definitely what women wear in the bath. They couldn't even do towels. The men are, of course, the most uncovered.
>>1082304 >so is the crafting shit. I meant base crafting my bad.
>>1023439 Atelier Iris 2 it's even more flexible (flame:XL range, XL damage, etc.) and is not bound to the whims of having to nail a spinning mini-game along with using characters buffs to get the ideal modifiers to complete some quests also Mana Khemia's plot is shit, specially the ending <Party to the last villain: You had nothing to do with this and you even tried to hold back but we hate you even more that the one making you go in a rampage because... reasons <MC to the main antagonist: Thank you for making my life a living hell
Saving this thread from oblivion, God I hate how quickly the board is moving these days
>80 hours in >just entered the last area for Yumia I have a love/hate relationship for open worlds, my autism just tells me to explore everything instead of doing main quest.

>>1104402 I often make the same mistake, but I beat it at close to 70 hours as I forced myself to stop exploring everything in the final two zones because I could tell I was going to get burnt out if I didn't. Yumia also has the easiest alchemy system to max out in and I was one-shotting everything at that point on the highest difficulty, so combat was nonexistent.

>>1111996 I’m here, I typed up a Rutger analysis but I’m not at my computer right now. Most of the people from the /v/ waifu thread are either here or on discord
Here it is: all moves are single target attacks. >long range s1 After attack, recovers 15% HP. Gives Phys/Mag Def +20% to all Yumia characters and strike allies for one hit. Moves to close range. >long range s2 Gives Phys/Mag Def +25% to all Yumia characters and strike allies for two hits. Rutger gets 100% evasion for one hit. >burst before attacking, removes negative effects and status conditions. After attack, inflicts paralysis on the target for two turns and recovers 30% HP for the party. All Yumia characters and strike allies get evasion +100% for one hit. >close range s1 before attacking, removes negative effects. After attacking, gives evade chance +30% for one hit. moves to long range. >close range s2 after attacking, recover 30% HP. Gives damage taken -20% to all strike allies and Yumia characters for two hits (maximum 2) and converts all the targets panels to weakened blessing panels (maximum 3 activations) >panel skill 271 base power, no effects, does not consume buffs >passive 1 when landing on a burst panel, recovers 15% HP and uses panel skill on enemy with the highest HP. Auto taunt, Mag/Phys defense +15% >passive 2 All strike allies and Yumia characters get max HP +40%. All allies recover 100% HP at the start of the wave. When landing on a blue or burst panel, all Yumia characters get +10% phys/mag defense permanently (stacks to 70%). When landing on a burst panel, all non-Yumia characters get+10% phys/mag defense permanently (stacks to 30%). >leader Strike allies get +25% to all stats except speed >custom weapon after attacking, target receives damage dealt -11% for one turn Analysis - useless if not on a strike or Yumia based team. Fantastic team damage mitigation expert if you are, but provides no offensive buffs.

Yumia's cute, and I like a story that treats Alchemy as the incredible power it is rather than just having everyone seeing some cute little bint wielding unimaginable potential and just being like "heh, these ditzy broads and their shenanigans." or Ryza's mother acting like her daughter is basically a fucking highschool dropout for learning alchemy. But my God the combat and the alchemy system sucks balls. There's no fun in unlocking new recipes through alchemy. And it not being done with a cauldron pisses me off more than it should. The cauldron was charming, the tiktok dancing is just generic idolshit. >>1044677 We get a lot of these in Australia too. >>1123139 Welcome, newfag, I'm a native here and I'm extremely happy to have you and others here. ESPECIALLY because this board was founded originally based upon continuing to post loli and fanservice, whereas cuckchan has become hostile to both over the years. However, you should probably take a moment to lurk moar like reading through this bread, or reading your post window, because a lot of your questions can be answered that way. For example, had you read through the thread, >>1068053 >>1044800 have webms with sound. You can post up to 32MB webms and mp4s with sound (more than 8 times the cuckchan file size limit), and as luck will have it, this site supports AV1 which is much more advanced than either VP9 and H.264 on cuckchan and other sites. Your webm is kinda small potatoes compared to the stuff that has been posted on 8moe for years. I've actually been somewhat of an evangelist for SVT-AV1-PSY, that's an AV1 fork that changes everything to be more like H.265 and H.266, except it actually plays in your browser. And it's extremely fast and efficient. Open and play my first webm for a taste of what's possible. The other three videos are from another oldfag and are not compressed, but that should address your inquiry on whether you can post gameplay recordings and captures: yes. I've been working on getting an encoding guide and resources for SVT-AV1-PSY up and running for you guys, so stay tuned. Yumia got hit by the DEI/ESG bug so let's hope it flops so Gust can get back to churning out high sexual impact.

JRPGchads, how do you feel about Atelier Yumia's translation/localization? I'm one of those fags that bitches and whines about the english text not matching the japanese voices (NEO Twewy and FF7 Remake/Rebirth being the worst offenders, practically fan rewrite-tier) and was delightfully surprised when I realized it's pretty faithful this time. However, I sometimes feel like the translation is "too" literal. For example, when activating levers/pressure switches your party members will say 動いた which the english text translates as "it moved". This is not wrong, however, considering the context wouldn't it be better to use something like "it activated"? What are your thoughts on the overall Yumia translation?
i actually stop playing yumia after clearing part 1
>>1145775 I would happily take "too" literal translations over trannylators so yumia is quite good in that regard.
>>1128901 Watching her go insane during her finishing move certainly activated my consider-almonds
>>1082321 Koei Tecmo cannot handle real fanservice any more. Their balls fell off in 2016 and they've only gotten worse since. They released the Nosurge games on Steam only to censor them AND region-lock them to Japan (and at this point, I don't believe them when they say it was Steam considering the games released on post-Snoy PS4 unaltered). They did the same for Dead or Alive Prism despite the fact that it's no where near as risque as previous games. Both times, they chose deliberately to make it as hard as possible for their western fans to buy the games, sabotaging the developers in the process. And GUST are stuck under them. I don't think Koei Tecmo would allow GUST to publish something with fanservice on the level of even the Arland games without sabotaging it, let alone something like the Ar Tonelico games which are otaku to the core. KT legitimately just hate their otaku fans now and I would suggest blacklisting them completely.
The whole villain plan in yumia doesn't make sense to me. I mean even Luard(Atelier sophie) was better at being a alchemy hitler compared to Basilius.
>>1159382 Yeah, they are trying very hard to go for the "wider" audience, it's not even turn-based anymore,it's just a offline mmo clone
(795.60 KB 1175x480 mullvadbrowser_QzAKp1aYyn.png)

>>1159382 It's not exactly hard to see why they would move towards such a direction. They did announce that they were going to start an "ethics" department a few years ago, which means they fell for the (((ESG))) scam like a lot of public KKs have done in recent years (hence the mockery of their pursuit and pandering towards the global audience unicorn that doesn't exist). It's also not completely accurate to say they can't handle real fanservice anymore though, >>1124788 they were quick to whip out the skimpy swimsuits when Resleriana was flagging in revenue, Blue Reflection tried pivoting from being a y/u/ri title censored to appease Kusony to a traditional master love gachage and burned itself down risking it all, and of course Penis Vacation still exists with Prism toned down for Kusony once again. As long as it's on certain platforms showing skin is allowed in certain titles, but KT wants to also have its cake and eat it too and chase infinite growth. If it means mutilating themselves because Larry Fink promised them imaginary money, well then, by golly Gust is chained. Luckily the (((ESG))) well is drying up, sacrificing everything for a dead console was pointlessly idiotic (Scamco is also getting burned hard for betraying its home country only to get scorned by the global consumers they wanted to court) and JP citizens are really pissed about USAID money influencing their nation. I think it'll take some time, but Kishida surprisingly reining his positions in and deferring to the people and the tariff trade war ultimately strengthening the yen when it had been weak should help Japan recover from the past few years of globohomo's failed power grab. When Japan moves to PC and mobile and creates its own marketplaces console regulations should be a thing of the past.

I just made it to the second area in Yumia. I'm level 50-something but suddenly everything is super tanky and my AI party members are getting their poop kicked in by regular enemies. Those mushroom mages are particularly dangerous because the AI simply refuses to dodge. They even cancel their combos and stand there staring but get hit in the face anyways. Any tips? I've unlocked the last tier of gathering so I'm getting S rank materials but even dropping all of those in gives me an end quality of ~100 on an equip which equates to C rank at best. How do I make the good stuff without grinding particles and upgrading every single recipe individually?
>>1215286 did you upgrade your max quality too? If you have high rank material you should be very easily hitting your quality cap. Attack items have a very large amount of scaling based on quality and aren't really worth it until you get a few max quality ups, but once you have 999 cap are significantly better than regular skills. For equipment you don't want to use any raw materials and only put in items that give stat boosts. Which at that point your best option should be either ingot or the second ingot you unlock in the second region. For attack items you don't need to care as much but crafted items are generally better materials until you find a material that directly boosts your resonance. Also while you say you don't want to you obviously it helps to get whatever item you're making to level 6 or 7 to unlock all the cores and the 3rd ring for the recipe. Some of the items should only take medium particles to get to this point so they shouldn't be too bad to grind out.
>>1215457 What a pain in the dick. I don't want to grind particles to level up recipes individually. I'll just wing it with what I have/find in treasure troves until I hit a wall and quit.
I've played every Atelier between (and including) Mana Khemia 1 and Atelier Ryza 3 (and also Nelke). I picked up Yumia, but I wasn't feeling it and haven't booted up the game since clearing the first AIDS zone. The cancerous alchemy with long transitions between menus got me. The combat system being yet another ATB pseudo action slop also got me. Please tell me, does the game get better?
>>1216405 they patched the long animations apparently by adding a skip button but no, it only gets worse. Alchemy and combat both only get more trivial as you progress.
>>1216644 That's better, but I still have to press a fucking button to skip it? I guess I'll pick it up some other time for the cute girls doing cute things. Open world was also a mistake, they should've stopped at giant gathering maps like in Atelier Sophie 2.

>>1023090 The only Atelier game I played from beginning to end was Atelier Iris on PS2 emulation. I would have loved to have owned a physical copy when I still had a PS2. I had tried Atelier Ryza on Switch but I disliked the combat system. I did like the anime.

>>1252419 attack items don't scale off quality, right? I was complaining a bit about the difficulty but I don't want to ruin the game either by one-shotting everything
(128.30 KB 1280x720 2586520_144.jpg)

Oh great, another cliffhanger. >>1252389 999 quality is very easy to get just by stuffing everything(not sure of the minimum material rank) on all cores. I mean i was able to kill Basilius just by using the second area's equips without even using mana burst(i don't even know how to use it)
>>1253078 welp I ruined the game. some ~500 quality max level recipe mirage sword I made from just S rank materials with its main level 10 attack effect is doing like 20k damage. I find that's a very common problem with Atelier games. You either mostly avoid the alchemy system and slog through the combat or spend 30 minutes on it and one-shot everything.
>>1227917 >>1228183 Do I need slicing ammos too to knock this ladder? Seems annoying that you need 100% while you got to unlock furniture recipe and all of that
>>1254494 The thing for those are in the last region but they don't really do much. Just upgrade Yumia's boots to kick the air.
>>1073786 Have you actually played Genshin? Yumia plays nothing like Genshin at all.

>>1228183 How the fuck you traverse to that place without scaling cliffs?
I think the ammo unlock for the region being at the very end of its own pioneer effort is dumb. They should give it to you way earlier like 25-50%. >>1256997 tunnel inside the cathedral
how bad are the switch ports for these games? i want to play them but koei doesn't lower the price or do proper sales for my region so fuck them. i want to play the latest one with the hag and the busty brown girl
>>1258281 >busty brown girl Yumia runs bad on Switch 1. There's no confirmation yet if it receive Switch 2 version for better performance
>>1258281 Switch ports of Atelier games, at least the Arland, Dusk & Mysterious (including Sophie 2) trilogies ran pretty fine. Yumia on the other hand considered both the Switch and PC platforms as an afterthought so the optimization is completely off this time.
>>1264274 ah damn. even if it does, the reason for me playing on switch would be piracy. i don't think there will be a switch 2 emulator soon since nintendo went after all the people writing emulators for the switch >>1264344 oh well, i'll continue not playing them
Serri was best girl of Ryza trilogy and it's a shame she didn't even cameo in that capital DLC at least. It is peak comedy to me that this is what Ryza's trilogy closed out on Ryza looking for an apprentice, and the start of the next trilogy has alchemy caused the downfall of society and is viewed as witchcraft. Makes me feel like crashing the economy with mass-produced philosopher stones was worth it. *Still waiting for Switch to get an english physical Arland**
What material should I put in greenhouse on 3rd region? I can't reach the cap with my current stocks.
